My only issue with my charge. - Verizon Droid Charge

So pretty often when u back out or exit an application back to the home screen all my applcations has disappeared for about 5secs then reappear. Does this happen to anyone else? Thanks stock phone too.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App

I've seen it happen before on my phone. It was before rooting and before debloating. It hasn't happened lately though.
Sometimes when I'm running many apps in the background or running 1 app that taxes the CPU heavily, I get something similar.

Happens to me with Gmail. I'll back out of an email to go to my inbox, and the phone looks like it's backing out but goes right back to the same message.

Does rooting fixes it?

Not necessarily. By rooting, you are able to remove/freeze all the crap that Verizon pre-installed onto the phone, which causes a lot of lag, delay, and slowed responsiveness. It wont solve all your problems though.
Also I noticed a pretty big difference when touchwiz was frozen. I don't dislike touchwiz, but due to the fact that it keeps my Charge laggy I'd rather have it removed and use Launcherpro.

Not exactly, but rooting can get you half-way there.
1) Create a file called local.prop, which contains the following line:
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=02) Save the local.prop file in your /data directory (off of root).
This will try to force your Launcher application to stay in memory. It doesn't guarantee that you won't get a screen refresh, but it makes it occur less often.
I attached a ZIPped copy of local.prop below. You will need root access, and a file manager like Root Explorer to enable writing to your /data directory.
Cheers,
¿GotJazz?

Has anyone tried running the V6 Supercharger script on their Charge yet? I tried it on my OG droid (only 256 RAM) and it completely eliminated these annoying redraws. The solution is supposedly compatible with any android device. I haven't had any memory issues yet, so I haven't got around to implementing it.

I ran the supercharger script and changed my settings to "mutiltasking". Everything's works great, but I haven't really had many memory issues since flashing a debloated ROM.

Task Killing

Anyone having issues with Apps getting killed despite the fact that they don't have a task killer installed? I will open Apps and leave them running, go back to the home screen, and when I open my task manager minutes later, they are gone. I know that the system does its own kind of memory management but is it suppose to be doing this? The reason it is frustrating me is because often when I back out of an app or unlock the phone, my launcher pro acts like it has been reset, and I have to sit there while all of my widgets reload. Maybe it has always done this and I am just now realizing it. Just curious if anyone else has experinced this.

In launcher pro go in setting and check "keep in memory”

Battery life suddenly sucks on infused 1.5

So until about a week ago I had jusy been using the infused rom, and my phone would be unplugged at 6am, and by 2pm still have about 97 percent battery life. I was using setcpu to underclock to 800mhz, and nothing more.
A few days agoil I tried installing go launcher and launcher pro to check em out, and battery life was absolute crap so I uninstalled them, however my battery life is still terrible. Now I have to charge it to 100% every 6 or so hours, even though I reverted back to infused. Can anyone tell me if theres an obvious solution, or help me out? Would a wipe work?

Charge the phone to full (wait for it to say "full battery" in status bar)
Unplug the charger
Turn off the phone
plug the charger back in
wait until the battery icon says 100%
turn the phone back on
charge to full again (the notification will say battery full)
Reboot into clock work mod recovery
navigate to advanced -> wipe battery stats
reboot phone
Also, there's an app for it called battery calibrator I used and it seems good.

there's also the possibility the DRM service for the media hub is bugging out (happened to mine earlier)
there was a thread about it a week days ago.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161949
Note: Some people were reporting issues where getting rid of these services were causing problems with the stock music player and/or other things. read through the post.
I personally haven't had those issues after freezing those two apks with titanium backup (I'm on Infused 1.5.0 and the drm apks are in it for whatever reason)

Personally I didn't disable any of these DRM services. I disabled the media hub though cos I don't use it. I disabled the media scanner too, and replaced Gallery app with QuickPic app.
Dont get rid of the drm. I did and my notifications were not working until i reboot, but happens again after a while..set it back to how it was, and everything was fine

just kill the drm service. settings > applications > running services. dont actually delete the apks. youll start having some things crash on you. hopefully its not something we need after gingerbread.
Try a different kernal ... recommend infusion 1.8 and then UnderVolt the Ghz

SDM.apk removal better battery life

I am running tweakstock1.4 rom with PBJ kernal. I recently froze the system apk SDM.apk idea being it is blocked by the rom to keep it from down loading OTA updates but it is eating up the battery trying to or looking for the OTA. I went one step further and uninstalled the SDM.apk all together. So far so good ill need a little more time to see if it helps with battery life. But if anyone wants to try it I haven't had any fcs lag or any problems since removing it try at your own risk but I think the coast is clear.
Thanks for the update, please keep us posted.

Where would you get a crazy idea like SDM using up excessive battery from?
Anyway, freezing did the trick for me. Confirmed.
From a thread in the tweakstock rom post....at the very least it may be one more unneeded apk
I, too, froze it on nismo's advice. I've noticed no bad effects, and the plus is that I burned a hell of a lot less battery while on airplane mode.
I'll report in here if this keeps up tomorrow. So far so good!

sdm.apk is considered as bloat ware. If you're in any doublt, just use root explore and move the sdm.apk from /system/app to any location on your sdcard as a backup. This way for sure it's not in use. I used betterbatterystats to verify it after froze the app and I don't see it any more.

I'm sure it uses another mechanism to make things invisible to the OS. It might just change the permissions. Either way, freezing has always worked for me.

I verified it was not active after freezing SDM 1.0 even before I posted my discovery in the tweakstock thread so I'm well aware. My question was specifically to the OP because he said that it was draining battery even after freezing.

He's a noob, what do you expect?haha just kidding. When titanium froze an app, that app is DEAD unless SDM 1.0 is not sdm.apk. But if it is it's dead. I haven't seen sdm since I froze SDM1.0. Judging just by battery life is not the right way, because battery life can be impacted by other process too, not just SDM. He must use tools like betterbatterystats or something to see the inner process. That's my IMO.
I was about to flash the Eclipse rom and thought I would remove the apk all together just to see if there were any repercussions. If it fouled things up no problem I was going to flash Eclipse anyway. I hadn't read about anybody removing it so I wanted to post my experience for the benefit of others. Apologies for my poor wording of what I was doing I didn't mean to convey that the apk was still sucking battery after it was frozen. Just wanted to say I hadn't had any problems after removing it.
Posted this in another thread but it's more relevant here:

Not sure I would call it "bloat ware". It's a tech support / CS service. It's bloat when it's not needed, great when it is needed.

Right, but wouldn't you need to ODIN stock EP4D before getting any tech support / CS anyway? If that's the case, no need for SDM.

[Q] Frequent force closes...lost cause? Help Please!

My girlfriend got her Galaxy S 4G around January and everything was going really great for her. The problems seemed to arise when I updated her phone from Froyo to Gingerbread through Kies. Since then, she constantly sees random force closes, typically while using Navigation, Browser, Contacts, SMS, etc. There is no popup saying "Bla bla has randomly closed...." etc, it just shuts back down to the main screen. Sometimes this will repeat numerous times (trying repeatedly to go to the contacts). I rooted her phone and flashed ICBINB, wiped cache, dalvik, permissions, etc. etc. but the problems have not changed in the least. Has anyone seen or experienced anything like this? It seems like no matter what I do, the phone is just doomed. Only thing I haven't tried (and am seriously considering) is reflashing back to stock Froyo; I don't think she'll mind, as long as she can use her phone peacefully. Thank you for any and all help.

Just an update: new from is great and she loves it. Still experiencing force closes, however. Seems the biggest culprit is opening the phone app and clicking on either the contacts or call log tabs. Those love to shut down (with no message) all the time.

It's actually not force closing...i had that problem before and it would happen randomly. It got to the point where i was trying to quickly select a contact or start a message before it would return to the home screen. I never found out what was causing it though. Try a new kernel. I think it happened less or went away. I haven't had the problem in awhile and i think that was the only difference. I'm on erikmm's miui now and haven't had that problem.

Or try something like GoContacts EX from the market. It is a dialer and contacts. Theme it. Customize it. I find it a lot better than stock.
Maybe reboot to recovery and fix permissions. Only use a third party app once you get the stock working. That's like putting a bandaide on a cut that needs sutures.

If you don't use stock stock dialer or contacts - it is not a bandaide. It's a replacement.

He stated the forces closes is when opening dialer and contacts. He has been pretty good at giving info on what he is using. So it's safe to assume it's the stock dialer/contacts app.
I don't disagree that using a third party app can/is nice. But if there is a problem with the stock it needs fixed first. Eventually it will create bigger issues if not fixed. Plus the Rom he is on there shouldn't be any problems.

I appreciate all of your help and suggestions regarding the matter so far. As it stands I haven't had a spare second to flash a new kernel on her phone, but she hasn't seemed to have any problems (knock on wood) since that day; I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it comes back to haunt her, though. I'll try fixing permission for the heck of it, but I did that when she was running ICBINB to no avail.
I'll post an update as soon as I flash a different kernel, but despite all the drama she loves it more than ever!

Is it me or is my S3 getting laggy?

Maybe it's me getting used to the speed of the new phone, but in the past month it seems to be running slower or acting more laggy. Any way that this can be checked? I have not heard of anything. But maybe I missed it.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
either its you getting used to it, or youve bogged it down with crap.
Phones dont just get slower on their own.
Did you try disabling sync? I had mine disabled, and was still getting notifications from facebook/xda etc, so had to go to those programs and check off notifications. Even after I would turn off/on or reboot, seems like those are still starting up running in the background.
Download an app from the Market called "App cache cleaner" run that. Also backup then delete your old emails, sms, call logs etc...if they are growing big. My wife had 5000 sms on the phone, so when she opened sms, she said it slow, but not after I delete them all. Good luck!
Thought of rooting? I didn't really play with my phone without root that long, but rooting and installing custom roms made it really smooth, especially when it's jelly bean. But even when it wasn't, it's still smoother and faster. Just a thought.

ive noticed a bit of lag here and there as well. those 2 gigs of ram don't do much for me at least. seems touchwiz uses almost a gig of it. still a beast of a phone though.

+1, before I rooted and ROM'd this helped noticeably speed up the phone. Definitely try this. Also, try Nova Launcher as a home screen replacement. It's very refined and has even more window and screen transition controls. There will be no lag at all.
its all in the setup...no device out there will stay fast if you have a hundred background processes, overloaded app cache, and syncing data to multiple apps.
Nova is fantastic on this device. Stock it should show a noticeable difference. Rooted running synergy with transition speeds all maxed out - unmatched. Phone is fantastic. I agree with post above, clean that cache. Also remember, all the verizon bull sh*t runs all the time, though you'll need to root to stop that.
Side note: sd speed increase (the dedicated xda developers one, not ones thrown into a multi use programs) works very good. Support are devs here and give it a try
