Task Killing - Samsung Mesmerize

Anyone having issues with Apps getting killed despite the fact that they don't have a task killer installed? I will open Apps and leave them running, go back to the home screen, and when I open my task manager minutes later, they are gone. I know that the system does its own kind of memory management but is it suppose to be doing this? The reason it is frustrating me is because often when I back out of an app or unlock the phone, my launcher pro acts like it has been reset, and I have to sit there while all of my widgets reload. Maybe it has always done this and I am just now realizing it. Just curious if anyone else has experinced this.
Running eb16, pnp, voodoo, green steel theme.

this happens to me too, since upgrading to froyo the memory management has been the only bad thing.

I think as soon as we have source some good kernels will be coming our way. I always had that problem with the vibrant until I used modded kernels with increases in ram.

I don't understand why. .when u open up certain apps.....like 10 unrelated apps all start up in the bg. If I wanted them to start I will open them...I mean seriously this is the only os that does this
Osmonitor is a good app to see whats running

Yeah I know. I use auto memory optimizer. Keeps more free ram. I set it to optimum.

Touch screen lag

When I unlock my phone and immediately tap an icon nothing happens. I know I've read that other people have had this problem. Has anyone figured out what causes it
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Never hears of that, when I immediately click on something after I unlock my tn it opens the app no problem
I've tried many Roms and keep having the problem. Even tried different kernels and governors. I don't think it happened for the first week I had it.

You'll notice that it happens when your phone is plugged in. I don't know the reason for it, but I'm pretty sure it's a bug with the phone itself.
It happens even when it's not plugged in. Every time. It's not even a once in a while thing.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
This also happens if you under clock very low with screen off. Then its slow to wake up, get notifications, and react.
I thought about that too. I don't have any profiles set and it still happens. Oh well. Thanks for the suggestion. If I can't figure it out I'll unroot and go exchange it.
Are using the sense launcher ?
-Monky_1
I had tried sense, launcher, adw, adw ex, and launcher pro. All with the same problem. Somehow this morning its back to how it should be. I have no idea what I did.

Are you running a task killer, antivirus, or setcpu? If yes to any of them that could be causing your problem.
I removed setcpu, and lookout and restarted and it still wasn't better so I put them back on. But today its still better for the first time in a week. Only thing I did different was pull the battery. Hopefully it keeps working.

Any way to free up RAM in CM7?

Hey guys, the longer I leave the phone on the less RAM I have.. I am down to a measly 62MB of ram at the end of the day.. I thought that android 2.2+ didn't need task killers? Anyone have any apps or ideas to help with that?
Edit: Please move this thread, I posted it in the completely wrong section I didn't have my glasses on, sorry.
Don't use any task killers but if you need a memory helper def go with "autokiller" from market. Its free and will def free up some ram for ya.

Does your phone slow down? If it's not slowing down, don't worry about it. Apps stay asleep in ram and don't run, this just means they don't have to be reloaded and are saved in the position they are in when you left them... this is the pseudo multi-tasking. If it's not slow, don't mess with it. Mine runs down that low fairly often with no loss of speed. But you can adjust the minimum settings in autokiller as suggested above if it bothers you that much
you can always enable some swap space.

Are you talking about compcache?
And my phone seems to progressively get laggier throughout the day but a reboot every morning seems to be sufficient.
Using autokiller with the optimum preset keeps me with 120 mb free and things still run fast and smooth. . .
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
I use advanced task killer and it works fine. Under settings I have auto kill set to safe and to do it when screen turns off
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA Premium App
Comp cache will be slower, and isn't necessary for phones with as much ram as ours. Swap is far different than comp cache, and may help some, but I notice no difference.

one thing that I do is use Titanium Backup to roll updates into the ROM. it hasnt caused me any issues yet that a reboot doesnt solve.
If you long press on an item in Titanium Backup...you get an option to integrate update into rom. Doing that will free up a small bit of storage, but for multiple apps it might add up for some people. My phone is smooth as butter running CM7

Maybe running donut or eclair, but anything post froyo has absolutely no need for a task killer, simply use google search.

Q: Humble and LPP Force Closes

I am posting this for a friend, and it might be better put under the Humble rom, but maybe someone else has had this issue and no longer uses Humble here is the issue
Ok I'm using humble 1.42 pbj non-oc kernel and launcher pro plus. Randomly it acts like it force closes launcher pro whenever I hit home from another app and my homescreen has to refresh and my entire app drawer has to repopulate. It's getting really annoying having to wait for all my apps to show up. A restart usually fixes this for a short while but the problem comes right back.
Suggestions other than "wrong place" are greatly appreciated
Seems like a bad flash? I have the same setup and had this problem initially, but re-wipe and re-flash fixed it for me.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Reflash fixes it temporarily but it came right back. Wiped both caches and
Reflashed twice without it working either time
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Danalo does have a comment in the changelog for 1.42 about removing launcher pro due to a perceived instability issue so it sounds like something could be conflicting between the launcher and the rom. You may want to ask in his humble thread to see if he can shed more light on this issue.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
I use LPP and Humble and have no F/C issues or redrawing of homescreen or app drawer..it works flawlessly and fast
Are you sure it's a FC?
You might just me using up all of your RAM, causing LP to need to refresh when you go back to it.
If. You're seeing this after heavy web browsing or gaming, could be it.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Not after any heavy use necessarily. Sometimes it happens after just using tapatalk, or facebook, or twitter. I'll hit home and bam! And sometimes it works fine.
I know he stated there was some perceived instability but that's not very descriptive. So I have no idea if this was the problem or if this is unique to me.

How do I not lose All defaults when reset.

Every reset and some times when I kill tasks I loose all my program defaults. Trying to ignore then on list not enough it still happens. Its different programs each time. Launcher then my phone then contacts. Have redo the defaults. Any clue how make sure stops. Is because apps on as card?

Stop killing tasks and learn how android works. Smh. How many threads are you going to open where you don't heed any advice?
Sent from my GT-P7510
I have listened. I learned how to use my sd card. I fixed network issues. Also stream lined my apps. No double apps. I even managed more ram. I'm happy. I use a auto kill so doubt its doing it because I safe everything. My only issues now.
1. Google maps keeps deleting its self
2. My go locker changes
When this happens is at random. Doesn't seem be anything app doing it. I'm thinking its my Rom possibly. Bone. Skeeter
Doing my best bro. My phone is my only computer. Hard to read up as well as on a computer.
Thanks for the help.

I have no idea what you are doing but I loose nothing over device resets. Period. Explain in detail exactly what you are doing, what ROM you are running, what launcher you are using and a list of 3rd party apps you are running.

sounds to me like hes running apps on sd which is unnecessary and causes more harm than good.

Do you close active applications or just leave them running?

Do you close active applications when you're done with them or simply leave them running?
I've been reading that it's best practice to just leave apps as they are when you're done using them. That you can end up causing problems or even eating more battery/resources if you use a task manager to close them.
What's your take?
If its a game or such, I exit out of the game with the back button, ending the task. I don't normally kill any other background apps unless i'm troubleshooting or its causing problems.
Its true what they say about task killers and prematurely ending tasks. Android by version 2.2 had become adept at handling background tasks and ending them when needed. No user interference is required.

+1. With the new ROMs Task Killers are total useless. They can do more harm then good. OF COURSE, exiting/quitting apps THAT HAVE an exit button is a good idea.
Good luck !
What about clearing ram I see thirty programs close is that bad are they apps that should be running

If that really bothers you it is best to REBOOT your phone. It is a much, much better way to return to "zero". And it takes a min at most...
It also really helps reset apps etc..... With something like ICS, unless you fully understand its memory mangement, clearing memory willy-nilly only leads to phone mess-up and then yu'll have to reboot any way.
Personally, I only kill an app that has stopped responding. And usually I do that by restarting.

Indeed it does. It's a built in task manager.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
Well ics handles it slightly different giving the user the ability to control the amount of stuff in the background runing. No reason to use a task manager
Really, unless an app is giving you problems or excessively draining your battery, they should be left as they are. Ever since Froyo, Android has done a really good job of memory management.
