[Q] Mango on HTC HD7s - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

sorry if this question has been asked before. Will the HTC hd7s that AT&T is releasing take the Mango update coming in the fall

Yes, all current WP7 devices will get the Mango update.

So will it be released around August September November?

Most likely September because that's the same month WP7 RTM a year ago.
Of cause carriers testing probably take ~30 days.

I have mango 7712 on my hd7s

Gingerbread Update comign 5th December in UK

Just spoke to LG UK and they said this:
As far as we are aware the 2.3 Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus 3D will be available from the 5th December 2011 for open models in the UK.
So thats only for open model, mines from Orange so will be even longer.
Soon they will say that the update is delayed for January and then will be delayed again in January to February and then...
It's always the same story with LG and to be honest I really don't care anymore about the GB update, it's too late.
ICS is around the corner already and I don't see it coming to the O3D.
What happened to it being November?
I like their phones but not the way they give a firm date, finally, then change it. I get my updates about a month after release so at this rate will still have froyo in february.

Shouldn't tango beta be released to developers?

Tango is supposed to be released Q1 2012, so shouldn't beta be released by the end of this year? Or is Microsoft waiting for CES?
I got mango 7711 on my phone about 4 months before final 7720. Going by that time frame tango should be out for beta 1 but i haven't heard anything from microsoft about a tentative release schedule for the beta.
Anybody think tango is being delayed until a better chip is manufactured that doesn't kill battery life with the LTE radio? RIM is waiting till end of 2012 to release blackberry 10 because of the same problem with LTE. And i'm sure Apple is waiting as well.
Tango was never meant to be a huge upgrade over mango (that's Apollo), so i'm guessing its some features with mostly hardware upgrades such as LTE and dual core processors.

Maybe that's why. We didn't get NoDo early...
Casey
Didn't think about that, but you're right. Mango was big because the apps needed to be changed to work with instant resume and live tiles. If the apps don't need to be upgraded for tango, there really isn't a reason for msft to release the beta.
I think it will be available after details reveal on CES 2012
7740 Wasn't released to us either... Mango, like Windows8, needed apps to be recoded and recompiled... It made no sense to release it to devs with the general public because no apps would have been available. Tango doesn't represent any change in the way apps run, and I'm sure Microsoft has their own beta team testing it.
I wonder if there will be Georgian language support. Mango lacks it. It would be nice to read in Georgian in native apps.
Same question about Georgian language support
2012 International CES, January 10-13
thats when we'll find out

WP 7.8 Release?

Does anyone have any information on when WP7.8 will be available or if there is any source online to get our hands on it, so that porting may begin?
Here is an excellent article about the features one can expect in 7.8
Here's an Update wherein it is stated that RTM (Release to Manufacturing) is September while GA (General Availability) is November. ;-)
It will be released with the first WP8 devices.
They did mention that there will be a program that allows you access to the updates early. I'm not sure if Windows Phone 7.8 is included in that, or if its just Windows Phone 8 and higher.
Nokia lumia 900 gets WP7.8 for a couple of weeks, this is officialy confirmed by Nokia ana Microsoft .

During the Summit I have understood that this feature is only for WP8-updates and not for WP7.8 because this update is released by the carriers.... So, we will have to wait .... :-/
I understood that the new update route is one of those few new things that come with 7.8
WP 7.8 is for the 1st & 2nd gen of WP devices that could not upgrade to WP8, sort of consolation
Once Nokia releases the update for Windows Phone 7.8 for the Nokia Lumia 900 can we expect a port soon to other devices like the HD7 ? or do we have to wait till HTC or Tmobile officially announces it ? (which I do not wish for)

This is the Windows Phone 8 forum, not 7 :silly:
wp7.8 will be sent directly, not via providers. That means everybody should get this & get this the same date.
No, WP8 will receive subsequent updates 'over the air' but you have to have it to get that as I understand it!
AFAIK Nokia plans to release the Tango update (7.5) in the upcoming weeks, not the 7.8 update. We'll probably have to wait more especially given that MS is not very confident with the 7.8 performance as of now.
Our best bet is to wait for the Windows Phone 8 SDK coming late this summer. Chances are it will include a usable WP 7.8 build.
I don't understand why people are talking about "porting" 7.8 to older phones. Every phone that runs Mango will get the 7.8 update, regardless of age or carrier. They've said they're pushing this update out without carrier intervention.
Also, Nokia did say that the 7.8 update would be release "in the coming weeks." That could mean withing the next few weeks, or by the time Windows Phone 8 comes out. Those are both technically "in the coming weeks."

hey, according to multiple tech sites, the Windows Phone 7.8 will be released right after the WP8 has been outed in the market.

Well, I for one have an old HD2 which of course is excluded of the luxury of official updates. Also I thought it'd be more fitting to put in here than in wp7 forum because of similarity.. sorry if I was wrong there. Happy with the outcome so far. I wanted to make a platform for discussion regarding 7.8 release and that we got; )
Sent from my NexusHD2 using xda app-developers app
Will WP 7.8 contain ?
DataSmart
IE10
Company Hub
Wallet
VOIP+Skype+VideoChat
all wp8 features that not need hardware changes

No, this has been clearly said by Microsoft and followed up with big people who work with and are at Microsoft, you will ONLY get the new tile layout on the main page (to have the 3 size tiles) and nothing else.
Only other changes you could possably get will be in a App format(downloadable via the marketplace). Not a update. If you want more of the new stuff, you will have to BUY a WP8 device when it's released.
This has been said from Microsoft a few times now...

There was a update to that, they took it back.
https://twitter.com/NokiaUS/status/215627719155793922
That statement that you would get 7.8 on Nokia devices in a few weeks is INCORRECT, here is WPcentral's take on it...
http://www.wpcentral.com/windows-phone-78-update-available-weeks
It's TBA... So no one knows at this point...
Trust me, I wish it was true because if Nokia got it, we'd all get it, as I am sure someone will rip it to work on any device...
I have a Samsung focus v1.3 running a custom ROM. Will I be able to update to 7.8 when it comes out?

Heh.
I'm November!
Me too November.
There is no update so far. They told on Twitter, at least one guy from HTC, that they like to bundle updates to a bigger maintenance update. It was a response to the claim that the HTC U11 would be abandon ware, but so far I never heard again of any announcement of an update.
HTC U Ultra - 1 February 2018
HTC U11 - 1 November 2017
Where is the problem, other brands have a security update on 1 June 2018 ?
Supports blizzards ...
1st November 2017.
I have a dream of atleast one update before 1st November 2018.

Let me complete that list:
Htc10 - April 2018
Since HTC moved(sold) almost all devs to Google what do you expect? I've sold my U11 and will never go back to them. It's a shame as HTC used to be the most fluid and stable Android experience. Well, not anymore.
The HTC U11 has Android 8.0.0, just lacking security updates, so I do not see why the HTC U11 sells, it does not have a logic. The HTC U11 is still a very good phone.

Sucks but I just do not see the value in personally dumping more money into a company that may not be in the NA market come say 2020 or even 2019. Even with the cash infusion from Google the company's financial health is poor and it does not help that reviewers for the HTC U12+ have given the phone lukewarm reviews.

I agree. HTC make very good phones in my opinion. It is not just about that is it though? We've all see the stories about getting screen replacements (costs, time involved) and if they are not making any effort to keep their phones updated with the latest security updates then people are just going to buy something else.
As much as I like my U11 I do not think I'll be buying another HTC phone because the after-sales service is literally non-existant, and if I ever do have a problem with my phone I do not want to be jumping through hoops to get it resolved.

I sent my phone for repair in January for Bluetooth issues, they blamed me for cracked screen and glass back. I refused to pay and 6 months later they offered me a brand new one. I don't want to go through that again.
Personally I had this sort of issue before with HTC and I bought the U11 which proves HTC still fail at delivering timely updates to their phones.
Mine is on 1, December, 2017
I have 1.November 2017. Support promises 2 months security update and 8 months without update. It is bad. Unfortunately, I love HTC phones. [emoji106][emoji25]
Odesláno z mého HTC U11 Ice White
I had high hopes for the U11 and the updates were so slow.. so I have sold in october 2017... sorry HTC, you lost me.
phone was great though....
I have written to support that if it's not a month's new security update, I'm leaving HTC.
Updated to 2.42 today and Android P should be coming out sometimes this month for U11 users.
CXTKRS1: Will today update HTC U11 version 2.42 for Europe ? Or did I misunderstand and if so, how do you know ?
