[ROM] [NIGHTLY] CM7 on the G2x. *Take 2* - T-Mobile LG G2x

Important!
It is strongly recommended that you flash clockwork recovery via NVFlash. If for some reason this or a future nightly build causes your phone to not boot up, you will not be able to boot into recovery unless you have it flashed via NVFlash.
NVFlash for Linux
NVFlash for Windows
To clear up some confusion, if you flashed your recovery via ROM Manager, you didn't actually flash a recovery. It is what we call a fakeflash, you should still probably flash with NVFlash.
Instructions
Download from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=p999 and flash like you would any other ROM (via recovery or ROM Manager).
Be sure to backup before flashing, and of course a wipe is necessary when coming from stock.
Gapps are available from the usual places, however do not download the version that says it is for Tegra, even though this is a tegra device, as it will not flash.

After skimming some of the posts in this thread, here are some things that you can expect.
What to expect
- Everything working including Wifi, GPS, Audio, Camera, Front Facing Camera
- Screen off animation is not enabled, therefore it isn't broken.
- Occasional audio problems (as far as I know they have not been fixed). If audio does not play just reboot.
- Automagical brightness weridness, this is controlled by the kernel and not userspace, even having it working is very hacky.

Any reference to the first thread you need too look up, it's linked here:

Not on cm7 but Faux has made good progress with the help of debauchedsloth

So does this mean nightlies will resume soon?

I dot think there's any really maybe one or two commits that got merged throughout the day. I just like compiling my own builds

I see this thread kinda senseless as there isn't a newer nightly that was available before using the old thread. Although 2 pages seems more manageable then 300+ (which will happen eventually to this thread.)
Being a website developer I know these threads add up pretty quickly (hurray xda!)
I haven't flashed an actual CM rom in almost a week since the server crash. Hopefully the new thread is a sign that the server was repaired and new nightlies are on the way. Using the latest KANGS to get my fix, I know there is lots of progress. Running the latest KANG from today I think the rom is almost ready for a stable release after a few bugs get worked out.
I think the work you guys are doing is fantastic and much appriciated, although it may seem all we do is ***** half the time. Android wouldn't be the same without all of the developers leading the way. Big props. Hope all is well and I plan to continue to follow your work.

They are also usually buggy; so if that isn't your thing, I would avoid flashing CM 7 (or 7.1) until it's final release.

We don't do nightly builds until most everything is working, our nightly builds are "beta" status. We don't externally "alpha" test.

Latest info on CM7 porting

I have some news on my CM7 porting, good and bad.
The good new first.
Good:
I can get the FULL version including the kernel to run in safestrap, and it is like 97% working.
Bad:
I can not get the ROM, without the kernel, to boot properly when flashing it to the phone from the bootstrap. I have spoken with several experts and this may not be something we can work out until the bootloader is unlocked. There are hooks in almost every part of CM that make android calls, that are part of their own version of android (it is heavily customized, and the code is available, and how I got it) and the kernel they use. The reason this works in safestrap, is because I can load the kernel on top of our kernel, but it is slower this way. Think of running a VM on top of your current OS, and how that can have some lag if your computer is not real powerful.
The bottom line, I am not sure if we can get CM working for everyone just yet. I am not sure where lfaber06 is at with CM9 and if he has tested it directly on the phone without safestrap yet or not. Maybe he will post in here what his experience has been, with this.
I'd like to give it a whirl anyway.

ONLY with safestrap, right now. If you try to flash it with the bootstrap it will softbrick your phone.
--EDIT--
Remember safestrap is not really working right now... lfaber06 and I have some highly modified versions that really are not for the rest of the world yet, and my version has a custom compiled version of CWM, and is a little buggy.

I have made quite a bit of progress on cm9 in safestrap, the only real issue i have is the radio which i am constantly trying different things with. I have not tried flashing cm9 or cm7 in the bootstrap but I have a method for it..(I think, Remember the D3 can run cm7 from the bootstrap) I have a file I have modified for cm9 that im sure will work for cm7 flashing in bootstrap. You would need to add some modified files to /system/rootfs/ and preinstall support to boot init.d and also run the fixboot.zip at boot. Really running under safestrap (i'm using the /preinstall partition) does not seem to slow it down much. But tbh I havent really "run" it while it's booted I'm usally making edits and rebooting to check for service. I'm going to tear into hashcodes cm7 for the D3 and see what I can come up with. It seems like it had the kernel included but the scripts only called for it if the safe file existed on the /data partition.

PM me a link to hashcodes d3 CM7 ported ROM (if you have one, I have had a hard time locating a completed one), and not the source code, that is what I used to compile my CM7 port with. I would like to test something, I have a theory on this, that I won't share with everyone here, since it really would not be very interesting here to anyone not trying to port these over.... we will talk more about this in PM.
Thanks!
Jim what about taking a look at the Droid X2, they have a alpha build of CM 7.2?

Yeah a couple days ago I flashed CM9 through Bootstrap. Everything booted okay and and everything ran fine. Again the only problems were that the phone didn't work, due to the telephony.apk issue and market wouldn't launch. Otherwise everything else ran a-okay!

Yes it sure does thanks, I flashed it, played with it, and I am taking a look at a few things with your CM9 ROM, and since we PM'd I have been digging into the D3 CM7.2 version that hashcode had created. I am not quite ready to flash it yet, but maybe something tomorrow, once I have the ROM to the point that I am happy to play with it on my phone and see what works and what does not.
It looks like the issue with my old CM7 ROM, from the logs I grabbed a little while ago, with logcat, were due to kernel driver files not found during loading, so it looks like my compile had issues linking to our kernel. I so wish I had the source for our phones kernel, it would make compiling CM7 so much easier, and NO the ME865 source will not due, so don't mention it here.
Jim
Glad I could help! Also @lfaber06, what do you mean by your ported version doesn't work? That's the one I flashed.
**Edit** Also the camera doesn't work, if you guys want in to that. Probably an incorrect driver or something...
So... any news to report on either CM7 or CM9?

By ported I mean the ones i've cooked up, their not ready for prime time so no sense in uploading them but they are good to share with jim. I don't think the camera works on any of the unofficial builds it uses a new type of "ion" driver that makes the camera uber responsive. Your post has however led me to build a few working ports for bootstrap but its still the same old radio driver issue.

New to this phone or not. Search is the best feature on XDA.
If it's not BML, it's MTD. Search the Q&A forum for MTD. There you will find a thread by eollie which quotes the epicmtd thread and a post of mine... here it is:

(yes, I have answered this question a billion times. Why, because no one searches.)
Edit: No, this will not work with MTD roms, like CM7, CM9, AOKP, SlimICS, etc... This will work with Valhalla, Valhalla Black, Unnamed, Stock UVKJ6 based roms.

I first want to than you for your support on a "update for a BML kernel".
i think it belongs in dev but still don't have enough posts to post.
I ran into a few issues with no log cat because of hardware freeze.
1st Tegrak will not load module for custom tweaks. Hardware failure vibrates indefinitely, and battery pull needed. works fine if you don't try and tweak. running 1.4 GHz without optimization works fine but can't underclock because of issue. the screen freezes and becomes pixilated.
restoring from nano backup finishes but stays at gs4g boot screen for t mobile
nano restore might be user error. i just factory reset and restored from there using the one click. restoring nano after one clicking resulted in same boot screen freeze as original
im sorry i don't have log cats but i hope i can provide further information if requested.
running latest Valhalla Black Edition with 1.3 OC undervolted
created backup with VB kernel recovery
booted fine with first flash of kernel running at 1.4
tried tegrak to underclock 1.4 and hardware froze with pixilation of screen in very light but noticable amount
reboot
wifi fix didn't work with flashing with cwm, suceeded with flash just no end result
tried to recover using cwm recovery with modded kernel caused boot freeze
one clicked back with no problems
i love this forum and want to try and provide feedback when possible, thank you for all you have accomplished over the years and i can't wait to see the perfect kernel and modem for ics. FB i love the AOKP. Unicorn Power!!! thank you all for all of your awesome work.

I'm just saying. Everything you type is one long run-on sentence.
Notice how I break mine up.
It makes what you are saying easier to convey to others.
Don't worry. I was tired and grumpy
So what we learned:
Type like you're writing a letter
Don't use nano backup
Download alogcat/alogrec
Wiping cache and dalvik is fine, don't always need to wipe data, but sometimes you do.
I get grumpy sometimes too
Is this the kind of battery life we can expect for the mtd version of this kernel and/or the aries kernel port? I noticed this does have some things from aries (per Github History). The battery life with this kernel is epic, better than anything else I've used.
Thanks,
David
We don't know what kind of battery life you will expect from the ICS kernel because no one has tested the ICS kernel because bryan hasn't finished creating it yet. If and when it's released you'll get to see what kind of battery life you get with the way you use your own phone.

There is a reason for calling this kernel BlastOff. It's going to go through the galaxy of snacks Google has named their Android releases. It's starting off on Planet Gingerbread, BML style.
Eventually, if the stars align, it will end up reincarnated as MTD on Planet Gingerbread.
After reincarnation, it will head towards planet ICS... and on and on...
For now, we are still packing the ship with goodies. OC/UV, governers, I/O schedulers, mmc changes, and bcm4329 have already been packed. But I'm still adding more!
So for the medium term, this kernel will stay BML. You may see me experiment with MTD, but I would stay away from that stuff and stick with the BML kernel for now.

We don't know what kind of battery life you will expect from the ICS kernel because no one has tested the ICS kernel because bryan hasn't finished creating it yet. If and when it's released you'll get to see what kind of battery life you get with the way you use your own phone.

No need for that kind of reply, I was simply asking a question. From what I can tell, this does use bits and pieces from Aries and that's what prompted the question. I didn't ask for an eta or anything to that affect. I also know that battery life is dependent on usage, but I know for a fact that on gingerbread the standby time is leaps and bounds better than what we have for ics (currently) (for most users) . It's even been mentioned that the kernel for ics had some battery draining issues by Bryan himself.

That "kind of reply" was merited. Like I said in that post, we're not gonna know how the battery will be until the kernel gets created and tested. I can give you a prediction and tell you that it'll last you 10 days with heavy usage but I may be wrong.
We won't know until we test it.
BTW, unnamed - bhundven edition has been posted to the teamacid github.
I'm not making an official zip yet, as we have some bugs still to work out, but if you want a rom to play around with the new kernel, git clone it and run the mkzip.sh.
Let me know what you think, if you feel so daring
(again, disclaimer, I'm not responsible for messing your phone up, thats your problem. This rom has been tested and won't brick you, unless you do something stupid. This rom will not work with any other kernel, for now.)

[ROM] Manual/working port of PARANOID ANDROID 1.97a

UPDATE: After a few additional tweaks to the framework, this rom appears to be working for both green and red lens defy users. I've personally used it as my daily driver for several days this week, and found it to be stable and very usable. The one thing that does not work for me is the GPS, and quite honestly, I haven't had time to look in to it.
Here is a complete, working port of PARANOID ANDROID 1.97a for Defy. It is based on Galaxy S2 PARANOID 1.97 and Epsylon's CM10 1208. This is NOT a simple port using the port tool and includes the Framework changes necessary for the hardware.
I take no responsibility for any consequences from your decision to try this rom, and being based on alpha releases, I'm sure there are other problems, but I've personally used this rom for a prolonged period of time and the only problem I've had was with the GPS not locking.
Few things to note:
1. No offense to anyone, but this thread is not for complete noobs. While I will try to help when I can, I cannot promise any level of support. If you don't know how to flash via CWM, this is not for you.
2. This rom is based on the Froyo kernel and has been confirmed to work on MB525 with green as well as red lens. This is no guarantee that it will work on YOUR phone.
3. I intentionally used 1.97 as that version was very stable on my Galaxy Nexus - much moreso than 1.98 or 1.99
4. I've cleared the PARANOID defaults that most of the other PA roms come with. You can manually change the individual app settings under Paranoid Settings, or via the \system\etc\paranoid\properties.conf file which stores a record for every app including DPI and Layout.
5. After installing this rom, I "supercharged" it using a v6supercharger script (link below) and it did seem to help make the rom smoother and more responsive.
Special thanks to Epsylon3 and Quarx for their work on CM10 for the Defy, and Molesarecoming and D4rKn3sSyS for their work on PARANOID.
Thanks to brajesh.sharma87 for pointing out the bootloop "gottcha" of simply recompiling the framework (for specifics google "framework recompile bootloop" and read the first thread that comes up).
I strongly encourage any/all of you to contribute (make donations) to these developers.
DOWNLOAD ROM (double check MD5 before flashing - 96D409B4692319D9DA63FAA9CE1516A6)
Download latest gapps from here.
Here is the v6 supercharger script that I've been using and is confirmed to work with this rom.
Make sure you're on Froyo kernel. Boot in to CWM recovery. Factory reset, wipe data/cache/dalvik. Install rom, followed by gapps. Wipe data/cache/dalvik again. Reboot (should take about 2-5 minutes). Install and configure the v6 script. Enjoy!
Looks pretty neat man! I might give it a shot soon. Any known bugs for now?
This is only PA rom which I manage to get work on my red lens defy without bootloop..
Cheer mate..:good:
now testing..
hm md5 matches, flashed it several times but it cant pass bootanimation :/

here tooo stuck at endless bootanim...

Are you guys running Froyo kernels? Did you do a full wipe of data, cache, and dalvik after the install?
Trying flashing the CM7 kernel, this rom, wiping, and booting right away before you install gapps or anything else. And make sure you give it a full 5 minutes as the first boot can take some time.
Also keep an eye on the led by the proximity sensor. Let me know if it flashes red when it loops.

Sorry, didn't even see your thread. Quite honestly, I've only been playing with PA for the last couple of weeks and have posted in rajesh.sharma87 thread as well as the rom porter thread, but nobody over there seems to want to read.
Have you looked at the logs from the devices that loop? Send me one if you have an example. I've tried lots of different combinations in conjunction with the framework-res mods before I got this to boot, but have not had any problems with this version. Interesting...

If you're on Defy red lens, I'd be curious to have you try this rom. I'm starting to think it may be a difference in the hardware.
I'm on BL6 (flashed GB when first leaked), but have been going back and forth between GB and Froyo kernel roms and found Epsy's to be most stable for my device (which is why I used his as the base).

How can you be on BL7 and still be able to switch to Froyo kernel?

My bad - it's BL6.
And for those that don't know, there was a leaked Froyo SBF with BL7 (see here).

Hi dew.man, if u want to continue this, I will close my thread as u know there's no need of having multiple threads for the same work. The intention of the guide and the tool was to let everyone port and use and not polluting the developement thread by posting so many threads. I hope u get my point. If u really wish to take this up I am there with u and will provide u as much help as I can but at the same time we need to respect xda.
Opinion of other users are also welcome so that we can keep the developement thread clean. I've already closed 2 of my threads for the same reason. LewaOS and AOKP JB.

First and foremost, thanks for all your help
Perhaps I was not clear enough, but I do not have the free time to take on any kind of support role. Please understand that my sole intention of this thread, was to provide/share a more recent version of PA/CM10 that I have been unable to obtain from anybody else. No offense intended, but I did ask you on several occasions to post a more recent version than the 1.95 you have in your (still existent) thread, and the only response I received was that you didn't have the bandwidth.
I also tried to work through/with kadevil's thread, but he pretty much ignored all the feedback he was getting about the tool not working for PA and JB.
Again, I was looking for a more recent version of PA (1.97+) with a more recent CM10 (8/06+) and was unable to find a working version. I built one that works for me, and wanted to share with anybody else that may be in a similar position...
Well guys i feel that the thread should be merged to brajesh's thread... since his thread has more organized 1st post...
no offence to op but thats wat i felt when i saw it...

[Q] CM9 or 10 for htc one s

just curious if theres a finished cm9 or cm10 mod for the htc one s or if they are all still working out the bugs right now. i tried looking some up but only found a couple that seem to still be a work in progress
Well since the ones you saw that there were still bugs in some..you are safe to assume that there's no completely working ROM. There are only little kinks, not major bugs like data not working or something.

ok cool good to know. well seeing how theres a couple of them still in development would there be one you would suggest over the other?
CM10 is producing official nightlies. I have been using it as my daily driver since the first day they started nightlies, and have very few (if any) issues. The occasional hiccup here and there, but nothing that stops me from using it as a daily driver. And I am on my phone constantly, mainly for work.
Here's the link to the download for official CM10: http://get.cm/?device=ville
Remember, because it's nightlies there is an updated version everyday. Sometimes big changes, more often than not little stuff.
Here's the changelog: http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/#ville/cm10/next
When downloading, be sure to use the NIGHTLIES and not EXPERIMENTAL (if you are looking for stability).
I also recommend using Fusion Kernel with this rom. Works wonders.

I agree with the above post. There is no reason not to use CM10 on the One S. I rocked it for a long time and it really is a pleasure to use. My only problem with CM10 is the camera doesn't perform as well as the stock camera. I tend to take a lot of pics and thus have gone back to a Sense-based ROM and now am just waiting for the moment HTC releases their Jelly Bean Sense update.
