I was just lamenting my typing lag, when I realized that I've been using google search to test the lag every time. I also noticed that Google was offering some suggestions as I typed.
So I turned off "automatic guessing" or whatever it's called in google prefs and the lag stopped!
If you are getting lag in google searches, then give it a try.

I thought he might be talking about "Word suggestion settings" in the Keyboard settings.
"Next word prediction" is turned off by default. "Word reselection" is turned on, I turned it off, but no change, still get lag.
Maybe he's talking about some other setting???
PS. Though both ASUS and Android keyboards have gotten crappy lag since I installed the 3.1 update.
I'm talking about the instant prediction settings in Google. Just hit the gear icon at the top-right and change it to not instant predict...

I think you need to dumb this down for me. "in Google"? You mean the browser? I don't have a gear icon.
Yes, I'm talking about in your browser.
If you are at Google dot com, and you are signed in, then there is a way to change your account settings, in my case it was the gear icon at the upper right of the google page in my browser.
Then once you are in your account settings, you'll see an option to turn off "instant search"....do that and close and open the browser again.
Go back to google in your browser and try and search something....the typing lag should be gone.
Is that more clear?

Oh, on the google.com page. But that should only impact that particular site though. Don't think this would do anything for the keyboard lag on all the other sites with the browser, such as typing messages here or other forums, which is probably my bigger problem.

I've been meaning to post this for sometime now.
When i want to search for something on xda forums using my xoom, i click the search bar, then click the text box. no sooner does my keyboard pop up that its gone. therefore I am unable to type or search anything.
I am using the stock keyboard of EOS ICS 1.0.0.0 but it as always happened even when i was on stock 3.2.
is it a problem with forums or something i can fix. it only happens with xda, all the other forums i use like, msfn, android forums, xoomforum, ipmart, htc the search function works fine. Fortunately i still have a laptop so can do searches on there

Have noticed this since April of last year. The other day I tried again with all the browsers I have installed on my WiFi ICS Xoom: built in, Chrome beta, Firefox, & Dolphin HD. Same old, same old. If I want to search I have to leave the tablet and find my laptop. Usually the extra effort keeps me from diddling around
Pretty sure the last time I checked into this it didn't matter which site version I enable for XDA - same problem. Heck, I also remember I couldn't even log in and stay logged in. No idea about that status of that issue.
Rob
Same thing happens to me on my xoom as well as my Galaxy S2.
If i'm on either of these, I click on the 'search this forum' drop down tool bar, but I don't click on the text box as that pulls up the keyboard resulting in the drop down going away again.
When the search tool bar drops down, instead of the text box, click on 'Advanced Search' option just below it, this lets you enter your search term on a separate page. (You don't have to fill in the advanced sections).
It's a bit long-winded but has the desired affect without having to fire up your PC/Laptop.
It happens to me as well. I just click on the advanced search and search that way. Chrome Beta is the only mobile browser where the search function works correctly on XDA...at least that I'm aware of.
Anyone tried reporting this to the Admins?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276306
It has a better chance of being fixed if one of the site admins see's it.

Hello,
I have a strange problem.
when I use the keyboard (I tried the latest version of "Go Keyboard" and "SwiftKey X") to write a message or enter to a website the keyboard dropdown and I need to click on the text box to reopen the keyboard.
It is really annoying... I tried to look for a solution in the internet but I couldnt find anything.
thank!
This has happened to me on several occasions as well...it always went away on its own, though, so I have no idea what caused it.

happens every time i open the browser, very annoying. its like i try to type in the text box and all of a sudden it disappears and tries to auto guess what i was typing. thought it was my phone, turned out to be dolphin browser in my case. using stock browser again and is fine. however, my data connection sucks and even on wifi in my house 15 feed from the router it loses signal.
Odd, I had the problem with my stock browser mostly, now that you mention it...and I haven't had the problem at all with Dolphin, that I remember.
It's really annoying!

It may (MAY) be an issue with the process itself: android.com.multitouchkeyboard. If you could find a way to just restart that process I think you can at least mitigate the problem. Have you tried a factory reset?
I know, it sucks, but when you get an odd system-based glitch like this (and it's a software issue) usually a factory reset fixes it. If that doesn't do it, something in the O/S may be corrupted, and flashing an fxz to stock 2.3.6 may help.
Also, are you using a sdcard, and if so what size/class? You could try removing the sdcard and see if the problem persists...

When lets say i open browser and type something in the address window like "xda atrix" and hit enter,it of course pulls up google with that search which is fine. But...if i try and click on the input box on the actuall google site ,and i start typing ..the browser will automatically scroll to the bottom of the page while im typing and continue to type in another box. And if u try and scroll back to the top,it wont let u. It will scroll right back down to the bottom so your forced to again use the actuall browser input box for another google search.

Well, nonetheless, you have to wipe data/factory reset in CWM in order to install many of the custom roms out there... just sayin'!
Use the stock browser instead of dolphin or go or whatever. It will do it less. Even a custom rom will do the same thing. My favorite is trying to type something and then it tries to auto fill which means the keyboard pops outta sight and you accidently hot resturants which pops up another screen and the, you have to go back and retype what you were looking for! Very frustrating! Anybody know if this problem is on other phones? Like the samsung s3? I'm even using a different keyboard (A.I. keyboard which is great so far) and the same browser broblem exists. Texting is fine...
I opened this thread because I did not find any relevant information about google now in the other threads.
I realized that Google Now in Nexus S does not have the same answers with cards, as in the Galaxy Nexus.
Do you know why? have you noticed other differences?
Make sure you have "Search on Google.com" enabled in Google now ->Settings -> Privacy and Accounts, since the Knowledge graph which powers it is more or less limited to Google.com at the moment.
My problem with Google Now is limited to voice search. Besides the ocassional slow start up, it seems the graphics/UI/animation have trouble keeping up with the audio (chime, audio input, audio output), which hurts when it activates a voice action but you can't see the card to check if it's right or not. Does everybody else get this?
I already have google.com enable but I was never able to get any card.
I tried several examples that work with GNexus
Did you get a card using voice search?
In my Nexus S I also noticed the slow start up.
Does anyone know if it's possible to make a home screen shortcut to google now? I use ADW EX for a launcher and it doesn't have the option yet in the Swipe Up setting to launch google now, but if there's a way to make a shortcut, you can set swipe up to launch an app or shortcut.
Also, I can't seem to setup the sports cards. I follow Formula 1 in the summer, but also NBA summer leagues, but I can't setup the sports cards to give me any information at all on these things.

No need, in Jelly Bean the Search button is permanently mapped to Google now system wide (you can't use it for app specific search anymore). If you still want a shortcut, just make a shortcut to the Google app. Google app = Google now.
So...egg on my face. Hit the "search" capacitive button and it went straight to google now. Embarrassed.
Now, about those sports teams....I read an article that teams you search for in Google are enabled in the "edit teams" option, which is currently greyed out for me. Anybody get this option enabled? I've tried many things and it's not working for me.

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788719
Enables you to use the search button and make a typing search instead of voice search, but the best part is the microphone in the widget still works if you want.
So click the search button brings typing even if voice is activated. 2 in 1
Enjoy

I have the same issue. Is this a bug or feature?
Looks like a glorious new feature. I came to this forum hoping to find a fix for this, but since seeing others with this problem my hopes have been dashed. Anyone suggest a good third party solution? Stock browser loads soooo much faster than Chrome that jumping through hoops for bookmarks is worth it.
This new "feature" was bugging me at first too but I found a work around with APW from the app store. Just download the app and put the bookmark widget on your home screen configure it to use chrome's bookmarks. But when you tap on the bookmark on the widget it'll actually ask you what browser you want to use and you can set the default for the stock browser. So now I can just tap on any of the bookmarks that was orignally on chrome and it will open in the stock browser
Great idea Napkun. Since I already have APW, I'll go ahead and do it.
That being said, has anybody found a fix yet? Stock browser is so much faster than Chrome.
Use cmarks to import chrome bookmarks in stock browser.
The problem I'm discovering with the solutions proposed so far is that none of them really bring back the sync ability. What happens when I'm in the stock browser and want to book-mark? You have to copy the URL, nav into the third party tool or Chrome itself to add the item. Rather clunky. The closest I've found to replicating the old sync ability is GMarks, but that project seems to have been abandoned over a year ago just before adding ICS support. It was open source so perhaps someone with time on their hands could pick it up and push it over the goal line.
This issue has really been bothering me. There is no reason to exclude the Google bookmarks. One of the main reasons I got an android tablet was the ability to sync everything that I have on my nexus phone. This and the locked bootloader issue have me considering returning this tablet.

Maybe I should try installing it just to un-install it! You never know...

Here is the chrome bookmark sync file. You can install it as usual or move it to system/apps as long as you set permissions rwxrxrx

This is a question and a minor annoyance,
whenever I access the "my apps" section it shows one column for the apps and update status and on the right it shows the open/uninstall option
and the permissions it has.
The problem is that it doesnt state whats new, description, rating etc. unlike a cellphone play market which redirects to the app view on market (like if I did a search for it).
It really bugs me that I cannot see whats new (I could live without the previews rating and comments, but they would be nice to see them too), it only shows the permissions it requires (and its not even like I can modify those so it is only half informative).
So far the only solution to this annoyance is going to my apps, watching which apps need an update and then from there do a search for the app to see what's new.
Is there a solution to this? either make it load fully on the right side or redirect me to the "market search" for the app like in cellphones?
Thank you in advance to all
