Phone has terrible lag when connected to wifi - T-Mobile LG G2x

Whenever I am connected to wifi, the phone slows down substantially. When unlocking my phone it takes 2 seconds to register and everything stutters. I have reset my phone and cleared everything yet I still have this problem. Anyone else experiencing the same issue? Know a fix?

Never had this problem and haven't seen anyone else post about this problem. Is the entire phone lagging or is it just the UI, browser or certain apps?

I also have the same problem.

Go into the Wifi settings and click the menu button. Go into advanced settings and change the wifi sleep policy to "never". That helped me.

How does that help
The phone lags terribly for a couple seconds when you turn on wifi, like when using the power control widget scrolling to another screen is very choppy. Having it not turn off isn't the solution

this happened to me yesterday while trying to wifi download plants vs zombies from amazon. it locked up soo bad I had to pull the battery. Buuuuuut im thinking it was my internet because i was playing MK online as well and my ps3 lost connection at the same time. I hate living in the boonies comcast is garbage

Actually, it IS the solution. The phone has some issue when connecting and obtaining an IP address. If you install a system profiler, you will see that when WiFi is powering up, and when the phone requests an IP from the router, CPU usage goes to 100% on BOTH cores and stay there until the connection is made, then everything settles down.
The reason this "fix" works, is because when your screen goes to sleep, the default behavior is to turn off WiFi, which means when you wake it up, you get that CPU spike again. Setting it to never sleep, means you will only get that spike when the initial connection is made (when you first turn on wifi).
This problem was driving me nuts, but i haven't had an issue since disabling wifi sleep.

The OP I believe is talking about another issue that I experienced recently. For me it starts after the phone has been up for like 2 days or so. Loading a web page is stutterific and slow as well as scrolling, animations. If I turn off Wifi, it works perfectly again on 3G/4G. I think there's a memory leak somewhere or there's some issue that's causing this. I'm going to drop my wifi from 802.11n to 802.11g for a few days to see if that helps. I have my Wifi set to never sleep since the day I bought the phone.

How are you connecting to N? I have a Dual Band router, but my phone can only see the network i have configured for wireless-g, the n network does not show up (it's set to broadcast, etc...) so i can only connect via g to begin with.

BECAUSE I was having the same issue you guys are having and doing that fixed it. Everytime the phone goes into sleep and wakes it will try to reconnect to wifi. Just try it and if it doesn't work for you it doesn't work. But for me, with the same issues, it worked.

Your not alone.
It's because when certain phones connect the internet, many processes start up and that causes lag on certain phones that have a small or old processors
eg. A quad core phone will not lag, as it has more processors threaded, but a single core will lag as it has only one processor to use and therefore will lag when more processes start up.
If you use a different launcher then you may lag less
Hope this helps

Wifi issue

Sorry if this has already been covered in another forum.
My wifi on the samsung mesmerize is not working properly, 3G works just fine. I try and go online from my wifi connection it says server problem, if I go to my wifi settings it says it's connected. Help would be much appreciated, I have a very fast internet and would like to take advantage of it, especially considering my psu just blew on the pc! I have pulled 10 mbs on this phone using wifi before. Haven't installed a new app that would prevent anything with the wifi that I'm aware of, just wiped my phone the other day, saturday actually. Again any help would be great.

Yea if that don't fix it try pulling the battery.
Although since the phone is telling you i'ts connected I'm now thinking this is probably app related...(which a reinstall or reflash may correct)
I also have wifi issues with my fascinate, running froyo. I turn wifi on, and it works until the phone sleeps. Then at some point (seem to be a different amount of time each time) I lose my connection to the net. It still says the wifi is connected (wifi symbol at the top). But if I attempt to use google talk, or pull up a web page I do not have access to the internet. If i turn wifi off, and then right back on, all is well (until the next time it sleeps).
There is an app called wifi keep alive. If i check all the options on that app it helps. I see the issue far less often, but it still happens, and using this app my battery life suffers a little.

Wifi issues from standby 2.3.4

just wondering if anyone else has experienced issues with their wifi re-connecting after waking up from standby since 'upgrading' to 2.3.4? Mine used to be flawless, but now regularly experiences problems where it wont connect for ages or i have to restart the wifi or reboot.
Mine too would take awhile before re-connecting.
How long is "ages" for you? I never had to reboot the phone, but I have resorted to restarting wifi.
Yeah..weird, I have the same issues. Thank goodness I'm not the only one. Seems to take the wifi a min to kick in coming from standby. And its greyed out once it comes on...so goto takes ANOTHER minute for it to turn green! What gives?
Hopefully, this new patch will solve these issues...fingers crossed!

'Ages' would probably be a minute or so? This morning i had to exit the browser and restart wifi to get it working again. Not a major hassle but a bummer considering it worked so well before!
My Nexus S has the wi-fi re-connect issue as well. It takes a while to connect, sometimes it's immediate and somtimes up to two minutes.

Wifi errors

OK so on my open network at home o can connect but then I lose internet connectivity after about 5 minutes. Recently today though when I go to shut off wifi and bring it back on, it just reads error and won't let me check it back on or off. I then power cycle the phone and I'm back to square one with the 5 minute disconnect. Wtf

This is a motorola bug. It exists on the Atrix 2, Droid 1, Droid X, and Droid X 2.
It has something to do with the method the wireless radio in the phones notifies the AP that it is going into low power standby. So far I've been unable to determine the EXACT reason that it does this, but have a feeling its related to using WPA/WPA2 and sending the LPN to the AP with that enabled.
I'm trying to figure it out, and if any one else experiencing problems with wifi where it drops connectivity after 2-5 minutes, please let me know the following info:
Length of SSID
Brand of Router / model.
Encryption type: EG, WPA2/CCMP (CCMP=AES on some devices)
length of encryption key.
I'm going to try and find a way to fix this at the router, provided the settings are available.

I am experiencing exactly what you described, every time I connect to WPA2 network at my college I experience weird problems. For example when I stream music with GoogleMusic I can barely go through one song. On the other hand I have no problems at my home where I also use WPA2. The most confusing thing is that my phone acts weird on unsecured networks too.
Do you think this is a software issue ?
For those who are seeing the poor WiFi connections that lock up after a few minutes...
Go into your router settings and disable WMM.
I am told (by a reliable source) that the problem resides in some T.I. drivers commonly used in Moto phones and it's exacerbated by overly strict code in many routers.
In any event, I was suffering terribly unstable WiFi connections that would lock up every few minutes. As soon as I disabled WMM on the router, everything started working cleanly and has remained that way.

Potential WiFi issue?

I'm here writing on tapatalk and browsing and have noticed that all of a sudden the WiFi will go off, drop out and restart. I hadn't ticked the : best WiFi performance, which drains more battery, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I also have he app: power manager and I'm not sure if there is an app doing that to the WiFi.
Anyone else had this issue?
Edit: definitely having this issue. Best performance or going manual on the WiFi Settings seems to have settled it. Hope HTC comes up with an update for it...

I also tested the static rather than the automatic solution for the WiFi, and it tend to drop equally. Only way it doesn't drop seems to be if I use the: use best quality WiFi, which reduces the battery life tremendously!
By the way, this is not happening during te phone's sleep mode, but during normal operation.

Not sure if it's related, but there are definite wifi issues with the one s. Mines completely stock, no power managers etc. It locks onto wifi points that that have always worked well for me (work, home etc.) with my desire and never disconnects. It seems in this mode it uses much more power and even gets a little warm. I can have left home for 4 hours and it still thinks it's connected and then has no data connection. The only solution seems to be to disable and enable wifi again. It doesn't seem to be able to roam from ap to ap without getting stuck on one of them
I think this may be an issue with Android 4.0. I have a Transformer Prime tablet running 4.0 and I get the same thing. WiFi drops out for a few seconds and quickly reconnects. I have noticed that it only happens in the first 12-24 hours after my tablet has been restarted though. After about a day running solid it doesn't happen.
I had a Nexus Running 4.2 and the wifi was great so probably not Android , more radi problem as discussed on other threads

The WiFi signal on this current phone seems to be spot on. No signal drop with any case on or covering the top of the phone. Signsl doesn't go to sleep along with the phone being on idle and overall really pleased.
I must also add that this new phone seems to have a remarkably better battery life as well. With my usuall use of web, tapatalk, a couple of photos a bit of WiFi, continuous account sync etc, on auto brightness, im at 13:20 and I have the phone on 83% battery when on the previous handset with the WiFi problem I was eating up the battery really fast. Usually I was at about 60% by now

I had exactly the same issue. Since I have changed the "option" / "wifi"/ "settings" / "extended" / "keep WLAN active in standby" = "never" (I don't know the correct terms in English), I haven't seen that problem anymore. I seems that the issue is standby-related, WLAN rescan won't start properly when waking up.
However, I don't think that this issue is related to the issue mentioned by the TO - it's the opposite.
I just noticed this issue when I left for work this morning. I have "Best Wi-Fi Performance" enabled, which was mentioned as a fix in previous posts, but it does not appear to be helping. When I leave for work and get into my office about 5 miles away it still shows as being connected to my home wifi network, when I try to use data like going to a webpage etc, it says "Data Connection Lost". Its like the phone doesnt know how to disconnect from a wifi network. I have the latest update to 1.84.531.2 710RD and still seems to have this issue. Have there been any updates from HTC or T-MO on this issue?
To follow up on this issue, I have called HTC and T-Mobile to find out if it is a known issue. They both told me that they were aware of the issue and that HTC is asking the carriers to report the issues customers are having back up to them. HTC said they are working on a software update that resolves the Wi-Fi disconnect issue. The T-Mobile rep said to have anyone else who is experiencing the issue to either call T-Mobile if they are your carrier so they can report the issue, or call HTC directly.

Been having this issue too. Called up T-Mobile and since I'm still within the 20 day window for return, they are sending me a new device. The girl that helped me didn't even want to talk about the issue or if it's been happening a lot. She didn't even ask if I had tried any trouble shooting. Just sent out new phone with free standard shipping. Works for me I guess, just hope it's hardware related, though I suspect it's software. We will see.

I also disabled best wifi performance and have not noticed the issue since. I dont know if its because of the factory reset or because I have disabled best performance. I have also changed "keep wifi on during sleep" to never and that may have contributed to fixing the problem. I've been having the same issues... I have a laptop that doesn't seem to have any problems with my current router (Medialink Wireless N router I got off Amazon - good router until this issue...). It also doesn't matter how close I am to the router either. I've been sitting 2 feet from my router, and it will still continuously disconnect and reconnect. Let me know what your findings are...
Idk if this will help: settings/wifi/menu/advanced/keep wifi on during sleep. I have mine set to always, no problem here. If that doesn't help try assigning an ip through your routers dhcp.

Ok....so it does still happen....on my Netgear 7550, Linksys E4200, Linksys E3000, and almost every other network I connect to...it is really frustrating...
It happens to me when I'm in my apartment bedroom some on the far side (I normally plug it up at night to my right on the headboard) which is about furthest from my router I can get inside...but otherwise I don't have the issue when I'm closer. I've started wondering if the phone just doesn't pick up wi-fi as well, though in fairness I have a single-antenna fairly cheap Rosewill router (RNX-N150RT).

I'd have to think you guys have bad hardware, or something else not playing nice... I have connected to MANY access points (even in different countries) and never had an issue with it dropping. I even make wifi calls for long conference calls, so I would definitely notice if it did drop...

Yeah, I have the same issue. I've discovered that it doesn't disconnect if I'm within 5 feet of the access point, which isn't exactly a great option, but does suggest maybe a software fix or a straightforward hardware hack like the Atrix 2.
Ok so even after the update the wifi still drops....even when i am right next to the router....but I can say that when i am using WiFi tether it doesn't drop the tether connection....it all seems weird to me...

Possible solution - try this and see if it works for you
Was running into this problem on my new Pho Q (too fun calling it that), where it would drop wifi and report a connection was available on the left side, then connect again, every 15s to a min.
To resolve (at least so far now for me for about an hour):
Settings - Wifi - Menu - Advanced:
Uncheck Show Reminders
It seemed that having it popup a reminder of available networks could be related to it noticing my available network every few seconds, and it seems to have helped me. Try it and report back. :highfive:
Ok, seems its still happening, but far less often at least. When I have some time, I'll try to do an A-B-A test but it does seem better than it was before disabling the setting.

Someone thought it was related to smart actions - do you have any of those enabled?
I've never had any issues with wifi - and I've used many different types of routers and security models.
Have you tried changing your wireless channel on your router or gateway? By default most start on 6, so changing it to 1 or 11 might reduce interference from nearby wireless signals. Are you a long distance from your router/gateway?

Not using Smart Actions (I use Settings Profile app from the Play Store instead)

It'll disconnect and reconnect even if I'm 2 feet from the router. I just tried changing to channel 10. I'll report back how it goes. I do live in an apartment building with tons of wifi networks, so this is a good suggestion. Thanks!

Tried changing the channel, but still disconnects and reconnects often. None of my other devices (laptops, tablets, other smartphones) have any issues keeping connected. I'm still at a loss...
Anyone have any luck fixing this? When my wife's photon Q connects to our home network, no problem. No drops whatsoever. But when she connects to her work WiFi, despite a strong signal, it would drop every few minutes.
