i'm running primordial andgmail app works fine including the widget

My problem is that the gmail widget seems to be gone. It deleted the one I had on my home screen, and I can't find it in the Widgets list to put it back.

The Asus email app and widget appear to have been fixed in 3.1 FOTA update...
Before, if you had your WiFi sleep policy to "WiFi off when screen off".. after a period of sleep/standby, you'd wake the tablet up to find no emails had updated and a manual refresh would just cause the Asus app to sit there.. A Force Stop usually fixed the problem but it was an issue. I emailed Asus tech support who replied telling me it would be fixed in 3.1 and it seems like they were as good as their word..
Its only a small consolation for anyone who's lost their Gmail widget, but it'll do for now

Constant Sync Symbol?

Anyone else have their sync symbol constantly "on" in the status bar... Even with no data transfers taking place? This has only been occurring for the last 24hrs or so. Weird.

Go under accounts & sync and uncheck one account at a time (try FB first). If the sync goes away, there's probably an issue with that account.
I have that issue as well. I have unchecked all of the boxes and it still does it. For me it does cause issues in getting gmail pushed to the phone. What else uses the sync feature that is not listed in the sync section?

After investigating this issue, I have a bad feeling this may be due to a bad/data-mining app - specifically, Tetris by Tetris Games (com.pp.tetris). Here's what I did...
After turning off all the syncing and background data in Setttings > Accounts, the sync icon persisted on the notification bar. I did some reboots, cleared app caches, etc., yet there it remained. I was beginning to get concerned that my phone may have been compromised by a "bad" app, but I didn't know which one. So knowing I had a good backup that I made last week from ROM Manager - I decided to install it.
After installing the "good" ROM, the sync icon disappeared from the notification bar. Where things got interesting is when I tried to restore my apps from the market. All went successfully accept for "Tetris" by "Tetris Games", which reported a download error when trying to restore. After checking the Android Market, I've discovered it is no longer available. Furthermore, I recall playing that Tetris app two days ago, just around the time the sync icon problem started.
So, while this isn't 100% confirmation that Tetris by Tetris Games is a bad app... I have a feeling it may have been sending data without authorization - hence its removal from the App Store.
I strongly urge those users who have it, to uninstall it.
that happened to me when i had the facebook picture gallery synced with the gallery on my phone. so as i logged out of it, it went away.
Interesting... How does one log out of the Facebook picture gallery?

I never used a tetris app.
How did you log out of the facebook photo gallery?
Have any of you updated to the OTA and seen this issue resolved?

[Q] Email Setup

I'm trying to set up my email on my new Transformer. It's a Google Apps email and it is set up correctly on my Droid X right now, but I keep getting the error
"Setup could not finish
Cannot connect to server.
(Expected string, none found.)"
I've triple checked the details and my Transformer is set up on Wifi just fine.
Any ideas?
Same thing has happened to me this morning gmail still works but the asus mail program won't connect.
there appears to be a problem at google. this started happening to me last night, and IMAP services are still down. the regular gmail app (POP3) still works.

IMAP is working great on my phone (2gmail accounts)- using K9--- and on my outlook on PC( same 2 accounts).
NOT working on the Transformer- using stock email
Are there any fixes to this or an ETA when going to be fixed at Google.
I had this problem with Asus mail this morning (I connect to my Gmail account using Exchange settings though).. I rebooted the tablet and it seems to be behaving itself now (not sure if this helps anyone or not?)
tried reboot- did not work- still getting connection error for GMAIL accounts ONLY.
The AOL accounts work fine.
how do you search in the regular email app? The option exists in the gmail app but i don't see it in the regular app. Pretty lame.

[Q] Trasformer Infinity does not sync Gmail

I am new here and new to the tablet and in need of help.
Just got my Tf700 and updated to JB and for some reason it does not update my Gmail. It synched everything, however it does not show notifications when i get an email. Even when I open Gmail, it does not sync until I click "reload." The notification is checked. I have no idea what to do about it. Any help is appreciated.
Mef
Start by making sure that your sync is enabled under Settings, Accounts...
If that doesn't work, delete data from the Gmail app, and reboot (your emails are stored in the cloud, so you won't lose anything).

I did that. did the factory reset too. Now it syncs but there is a random lag between the sync. I can hear my phone getting the notification almost instantly, yet the tablet wait for 2 - 5 mins before updating. I don't get it. Android should not have any preset time for updating google info unless it a new thing in JB. Any thoughts? TIA
Mef.
I am having the same problem. It's not much of a problem but it's not right so it rankles me.

EMail Exchange app in .18 not working anymore

Hi all
Since I updated to the .18 firmware, I have come across 2 issues.
Firstly, the build in email app is no longer connecting to my corporate exchange and pulling down my email. This is very strange since other apps such as Moxier and K59 mail is working well, although I prefer the simple interface of the built-in email app.
Secondly, a very strange screen flicker occurs every now and again, similar to when you connect a VGA monitor to a PC and the connection is not 100% correct - almost like a signal connection going wrong. this happens less frequently, but I can't recall it happend with any of the previous updates.
For now the exchange issue is more important - have disabled the app, clear the cache, re created the profile but nothing working.
any ideas?

I might have had that problem too. But as chance would have it, the dns domain name, and thus also the certificates were changed the same day I updated from ICS to JB. So I just changed the settings to point to the new dns domain. Then that same night I had issues caused by the beats audio on JB (worked fin in ICS). Do not install it on JB, it will cause your tablet to boot loop. Anyway, I had to restore, so I installed ICS (complete wipe), root, and OTA update to JB.
I haven't had any issues with exchange since. I know what I had to do is a bit extreme to fix an app, but if you are really desperate...

Some call it flicker, some call it black lines. I see them too.
So I backed up my tablet with Asus AppBackup, did a factory reset, restored and now the exchange app is working again

Gmail sync problems

I bought Moto G 2015 three weeks ago, and phone has been upgraded to MM on first day of use.
I used Galaxy S3 for many years before and never had gmail sync problems, but now I have.
The problem appears in no push message that I have new gmail emails. Only when I open Gmail app or sync manually, I can see new emails.
I have many apps installed, such as Viber, Facebook Messenger, Mail.ru (another email client), all messages from them are recieved immediately. The problem is only with Google.
Does anyone have the same problem? Is there some solution of this? All that could be done was done. I loose all hope to fix it.

For some stupid reason this is the default behavior of Gmail...
Go to Settings -> Accounts -> Google and turn the slider on for Gmail, should be good after that. Sometimes have to press the overflow menu and select "Sync Now" to sort of jump start it.

Of course I have Gmail slider on all time.
I send email from PC to myself and CC to my wife -- wife's phone notifies about new email immediatelly, but my moto G can keeps silence for many hours (or days?).

Had to ask... Many people have noted that is off by default, depends how you setup your device in the wizard.
I assume you have cleared caches, cleared data on Gmail, tried removing updates and reinstalling them, etc?

Yes, I did all of this abovementioned things.
I just added gmail account to another email client (mail.ru), and tried to send several emails to myself -- notifications come momentally!
It turns out that is someting wrong with gmail app? But the same version works good on wife's phone.
I've had this issue intermittently as well. It did not occur with 5.1.1. Seems to be a bug introduced with Marshmallow. I cleared the data of the Gmail app and that seems to have mostly cured it for now.
bug or feature? i had the same issue...
a battery saver function seems to be the culprit for me
settings > battery > menu > battery optimization
turn optimization off for gmail
it went back to getting mail that shows up in the middle of the nite
[i turned the battery saver off and still get good life
but i'm not using the phone for much now...]
I cleared cache of gmail, rolled back to firmware version, turned off battery optimization for gmail -- nothing helps me.
But yesterday I installed many others email clients, which work with gmail -- EVERY of them notifies about new emails monentally, but not gmail. And EVERY of them has battery optimization turned on..
Could this be related to Doze mode? When in Doze mode synchronizations are "dozed" and can be delayed up to 30 minutes, typically 5-10 though... Didn't even think of that

I send email to myself when phone is not in Doze mode, and there is no any notification. But others email clients work perfectly.

It seems that I resoved the problem!
Apps -- google play services -- manage data -- clear all data
Since I did this, I have every new email notification and sync! I tried to find solution all this time.
Battery optimization is on for gmail and all work as it should right now.
I hope.
Happiness was short. In a hour I send ti myself email and didn't receive notification. Went to google account sync settings and there was exclamation mark near gmail. Pressed to sync mannually and new email has come.
That's definitely problem with Google sync..
Nothing remains, but must install other email client.
