Hello, I'm planning to get the HTC Sensation soon. I'll buy it from eBay because it won't come in Greece soon and I've found a pretty good deal for the Sensation 4G that will be released in US. However, to be able to use Greece's mobile networks it has to support GSM900 & GSM1800 and WCDMA2100 for 3G. What are the supported bands on the Sensation 4G?
Edit: GSMArena says that it supports these bands (http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_sensation_4g-3922.php) but I need to be 200% sure as I'm buying from eBay and returns aren't easy there, if not impossible, and I don't wan't to have a phone that can't work as a phone

Did you ask rhk735wo0? I have also asked HTC and waiting for a response, and at the GSMArena page about the Sensation it says it support all GSM frequencies and 900/1700/2100 for 3G. I also found this image below from the FCC Test of the phone that says that it doesn't support GSM 900 and 1800, thus I will not have 2G reception and that's pretty bad.

OMG, where did you find that page? I've been searching the whole United States site for it! Seems like we can trust that and based on that information it supports all GSM bands so we should be ok with 2G. For 3G, at least here in Greece, I need WCDMA2100 which I'm pretty sure it supports. But I will wait for HTC's reply before buying it. Another thing would be whether we will have the same software with the European version, eg. wallpapers and if it will have a bunch of bloatware from t-mobile. But I guess when the bootloader is unlocked we can flash a European version.
I've heard a few conflicting things too. I need the appropriate bands for my provider here in Canada and it looks like the UK version should suffice. Still waiting on HTC or some more forum members to chime in though.

Sure. Personally, I'd feel more safe and comfortable if I bought the European version from UK, but there's a huge difference in price. The cheapest European version I can find on eBay is 650 euro while the other day there was a preorder for the 4G at 470 euro (unfortunatelly it sold-out immediately) and now I can find the 4G at 530 euro. So I'm saving over 120 euro here! I may also wait for it to be released in the US and maybe the prices on eBay will fall (preorders tend to be more expensive).
You guys are slightly mis-informed. The AWS 3G bands have nothing todo with 2G service. Almost all of HTC's devices are quadband GSM, hell almost all the GSM phones in the world are quadband, meaning that they all pretty much universally support 2G(GPRS and EDGE).
The T-Mobile US variant of the S4G SHOULD have
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
as stated above.

Thank you very much. The different opinions I've read around the Internet caused a bit of confusion on my mind . So do you think it's safe to preorder the Sensation 4G on eBay to use it in Greece (we have GSM900/1800 for 2G and WCDMA2100 for 3G)?
Sorry for asking so many times for confirmation etc. but they guy selling it doesn't accept returns and I don't want to be in a situation having to sell it to get a European version and losing money and time in the process...

T-Mobile USA 3G (HSDPA) uses the AWS (1700 and 2100 MHz) frequency-bands. It does not use 850 3G.

So, the Sensation 4G will work on Greece's 3G networks that use the 2100 band. And for GSM network, ashasaur's statement is quite reasonable. It should support all 4 bands, but I'm waiting for HTC to confirm this...

Yes, should work fine on 2100 3G. I'm counting on it for international travel. GSM should also be quad band, but understand waiting for confirmation.
Another thing that's worrying me is whether the Sensation 4G will support the same roms/kernels/mods/radios etc. with the European Sensation. I'm asking because while the HTC Desire has huge developer support, the US (CDMA) version has minimal support and roms etc. are not universal between the two.

If anything I'm guessing that's because one is GSM & the other is CDMA. When the Touch Pro 2 dropped & had both a GSM & CDMA version the CDMA was left in the cold while everyone worked on the GSM one & they were not interchangeable.

I don't see why it shouldn't. The only other time I saw where US & EU ROMS weren't interchangeable was with the HD2 since the tmous version had a 1GB ROM vs the 512MB one for the EU. Unless tmous changes anything like that, they should all work on any Sensation.

This concerns me a lot. Can I flash a radio from the original optimistic 2x or something to make it work in the uk? Do you think it will work on 3g out of the box? Some help please.
As you've noted T-Mobile uses non standard frequencies in the states. So, out of the box it's incompatible. As far as flashing an Optimus 2x radio, that appears to be a very bad idea due to file system differences.

Most uk networks use 2100 band as suggested by at&t . The 1700 band is used by t mo for 4g network according to engadget. Any change of opinion now?

"Band I" is 2100 MHz, which is supported by the G2x and is used all over Europe and Asia.

The G2x supports 850/900/1800/1900 MHz for 2G/GPRS only, and supports 3G/4G UMTS/HSPA+ bands I (2100) and IV (1700). The G2x does not support AT&T’s 3G bands.

Both at&t and tmobile phones would be able to get 3g signals outside of the states. I had no problem using my old iphone 3g in Hong Kong,Beijing nor my tmobile blackberry 9700 in Italy.

Yeah...now that's not quite right. Here's the deal:
Most of the world uses 2100 MHz 3G bidirectionally (for both sending and receiving data). This includes England, China, and Hong Kong.
In the U.S. AT&T uses Both 850 & 1900 MHz (depending on the coverage area) bidirectionally. Not compatible with "world standards". The reason you could use you iphone in China is because it has tri-band 3G. Not all AT&T phones support the 2100 MHz band.
T-Mobile uses 1700 MHz for uploads and 2100 MHz for downloading. However, all their current phones have the ability to use the 2100 MHz band bidirectionally when operating overseas.
So to sum it up T-Mobile phones will do 3G overseas, some AT&T Phones will work overseas, but most phones from overseas won't do 3G here.
I hope that makes things a bit more clear; and I apologize again for confusing T-mobile with AT&T in my earlier post.

I understand that and was not looking to use it on At&t. Thats why I just wanted the bands, because I am seeing so many different things over the internet and googling it

There are 3 versions of the phone, so you ARE going to get mixed specs. Check your box, it should list the specs of the phone on it and you will see the radios that your phone support.
I also don't have a clue what bands do carriers in the Carribean use, but my guess would be 900mhz

Yeah, there seems to be at least three versions of the sensation. My TMOUS Sensation box says UMTS bands I, II, and IV. It is interesting to note that the T-Mobile website does not list UMTS band II in the specs. I tend to believe the box it came in, since we all know how accurate websites can be sometimes. So it seems if you have a TMOUS Sensation, you may or may not get 3/4G on AT&T.

A lot of countries in Latin America use the 900mhz band so it would surprise me if carriers in the carribean use the same

This site should help figure out which specific bands are used in each country. Just select desired country in the dropdown.

T-Mobile version has UMTS 1700, 1900, 2100 on the box, so won't get 3G in countries requiring 900.
All I know is that to get the 850 band, you have to buy the Canadian version (bell canada), AFAIK we're one of few that use 850.
I think the UK version has 900?
the Tmo version has the higher freq. UMTS/HSPA, plus AWS. people in canada on Wind Mobile (the only AWS carrier) would need to buy that variation.
I am having the same problem almost all sites I have found say that the T-Mobile Sensation only supports HADPA 900 / 1800, I have just bought a T-Mobie Sensation off eBay where the seller posted the Sensation specs which says it supports the 850 band as well but from what I have gleaned so far this is incorrect, I'm in Australia where the Telstra 3G network runs on the 850 band so this phone will be useless to me on the Telstra 3G network.
Does any one really know if the T-Mobile version has the HSDPA 850 band????

So the European version is the same as the T-Mobile Sensation. Both handsets run on UMTS 900/2100MHz

Also any carrier or telco that runs their 3G network on the 900/2100MHz bands will compatible with the European model and the T-Mobile Sensation 4G. Specs on the T-Mobile US Sensation 4G box do not match that website.
The box lists this:
GSM 850,900,1800,1900
UMTS 1700,1900,2100
TMO US requires 1700 for 3G/4G.
If you're in the Carribean or in Australia you should buy the Asian version: Z710e. The box states, under Network:
HSPA/WCDMA: (900/AWS/2100 MHz)
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: (850/900/1800/1900 MHz).
I'm in Europe (Austria) and my Sensation is the Asian version and works well with my A1 carrier (UMTS/HSDPA).

I am travelling to Europe soon and can't really find out if the Sensation will fully work there. I am getting it SIM unlocked through TMOUS, but I am unsure about the actual bands it supports. I know it will work for standard GSM calling since where I am going 900 MHz is standard, but what about data? Will I at least be able to get 3G? Searched hi and low and couldn't find an answer to this anywhere. Thanks.

I'm in the same boat here. I leave for Ireland in the beginning of September, and hope to bring my T-Mobile Sensation (factory unlocked also). If anyone has any insight to this it would be greatly appreciated. 3G is a must now a days.
Go to gsmarena and look for the bands of the HTC Sensation and compare it with the Tmobile Sen 4g
just got back from spain/ibiza after a two week vacation:
i had a sim that ONLY did phone/sms and a friend had a sim that did data...but he kept complaining about the speed, so i'm assuming the speeds are edge-like. again, this was in ibiza and our choice of sims was limited...

that was a good idea hytl, looks like the tmobile version has two more frequencies on the HSDPA but everything else is the same. So our phones should work fine with 3G.

Anyone know why the T-Mobile version doesn't pick up AT&T's 3G?(here in America) from what I've read online AT&T use's 850 and 1900, and gsmarena says it the T-Mobile Sensation can pick up those frequencies, but I dont get any 3G. actually I dont even get edge, I can just make phone calls and text, no data whats so ever on AT&T's network. dont know if i should start a new thread, but its confusing the hell out of me. Could it be a software lock? its not rooted or anything.

because the 3g band of T-mobile is differente of my country I would like to know if there is a One S which is not for T-mobile. I need 1900mhz support

Where do you live?
The One S is exclusive to T-Mobile only in the USA afaik. The international variant (PJ40100) supports WCDMA at 850, 900 and 2100 MHz. T-Mobile USA variant (PJ40110) supports WCDMA at 850, 1700, 1900 and 2100 MHz but (My speculation here!) I guess if your carrier has a 1900 network they might sell the PJ40110 variant without the branding, isnt this what some canadian carriers do btw?

I live in Mexico, as far as I know 3G band here is 850mhz/1900mhz. I think it's the same with AT&T (because most at&t phones works here). I'm sure 1700/2100 won't work (because once I have droid Incredible 2, never got 3g works)
I don't like One X because it's too big. so any chance HTC One S will work here? (either T-mobile or international)

I live in Mexico, as far as I know 3G band here is 850mhz/1900mhz. I think it's the same with AT&T (because most at&t phones works here). I'm sure 1700/2100 won't work (because once I have droid Incredible 2, never got 3g works)
I don't like One X because it's too big. so any chance HTC One S will work here? (either T-mobile or international)

I have T-Mobile USA HTC One S with me and on the box it says that it supports 3g of 850, 2100, 1700/2100 and 1900Mhz. I just don't have AT&T sim card to test, but looking at the specs on the box it has to work at 1900Mhz.
I've read that it picks up 4G on at&t just not LTE.

Hello All! first of all its extremely basic question.
I have UK version of HTC One S S4, but i live in Indiana, US. I use Tmobile but dont get 4G or 3G..just Edge!
so i was wondering if i flashed tmobile radio or tmobile-RUU will I start getting a better connection or also maybe 3G..?
OK sorry but my Phone is not UK..it is HTC Europe version.

Your in a bit of a bind then since you have the international version! Your phone might not have the right frequency support to get T-mobile 3g/4g until they complete their move of 3g to the 1900 band.

You really need that 1700/1900 band for AWS 3g. However, t-mobile is currently moving 3g to the 1900 spectrum which should enable you to get 3g when it's done in your area.
