[Q] Will this phone work in the uk on 3g

I want to buy this device but it is overpriced here in the uk and t mobile in the usa have it a affordable price. I checked the bands and most uk phones have: 900, 1900 and 2100 for 3g
This one has : 1700 and 2100 for 3g
This concerns me a lot. Can I flash a radio from the original optimistic 2x or something to make it work in the uk? Do you think it will work on 3g out of the box? Some help please.

As you've noted T-Mobile uses non standard frequencies in the states. So, out of the box it's incompatible. As far as flashing an Optimus 2x radio, that appears to be a very bad idea due to file system differences.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've read the answer is no.

uk carriers use 2100 primarily and according to gsmarena the bands this phone supports are:
1700 and 2100 for 3g
Wouldn't it still work out of the box even if it supports 2100 band?

Most uk networks use 2100 band as suggested by at&t . The 1700 band is used by t mo for 4g network according to engadget. Any change of opinion now?

"Band I" is 2100 MHz, which is supported by the G2x and is used all over Europe and Asia.

the G2X supports 2100 UMTS (3G) or am I missing something?
The G2x supports 850/900/1800/1900 MHz for 2G/GPRS only, and supports 3G/4G UMTS/HSPA+ bands I (2100) and IV (1700). The G2x does not support AT&T’s 3G bands.

Yes it should work, I'm currently in Europe and my g2x connects to 3G, but of course there is no 4G...I'll be in the UK in a few days in fact

Thanks to all who corrected me...I was under the impression most of Europe used the same 3G bands as AT&T do here. Stupid US centric assumption...I need to get out more....and keep my mouth shut when I'm not absolutely sure!
Anyway, sorry for my small contribution to internet misinformation...

Both at&t and tmobile phones would be able to get 3g signals outside of the states. I had no problem using my old iphone 3g in Hong Kong,Beijing nor my tmobile blackberry 9700 in Italy.

Yeah...now that's not quite right. Here's the deal:
Most of the world uses 2100 MHz 3G bidirectionally (for both sending and receiving data). This includes England, China, and Hong Kong.
In the U.S. AT&T uses Both 850 & 1900 MHz (depending on the coverage area) bidirectionally. Not compatible with "world standards". The reason you could use you iphone in China is because it has tri-band 3G. Not all AT&T phones support the 2100 MHz band.
T-Mobile uses 1700 MHz for uploads and 2100 MHz for downloading. However, all their current phones have the ability to use the 2100 MHz band bidirectionally when operating overseas.
So to sum it up T-Mobile phones will do 3G overseas, some AT&T Phones will work overseas, but most phones from overseas won't do 3G here.
I hope that makes things a bit more clear; and I apologize again for confusing T-mobile with AT&T in my earlier post.

So i just purchased from amazon and it says its the international version with no warranty will i have any problems running that on t-mobiles 3G? It says its unlocked and will it be any different from the USA version?

U better make sure they running the same 3g bands or u stuck with edge eww

if it's the EU version it'll work. it seems all the sensations have tmous's AWS bands

The supported cellular bands should be listed somewhere in the specs. (link?) Should look something like this.
Network technology:
GSM:
850, 900, 1800, 1900
UMTS:
900, 1700/2100, 2100
If you do not see the 1700/2100 bands in the specs., you will not get t-mobile's 4g data speeds. Only edge.

It'll either say that or AWS. I think the EU boxes say AWS

I have that phone and I'm getting at least 3g speeds. I have no idea how to check to see whether I get 4g. If anyone can guide me, I can post my results.
My speeds are not that good, but are the same as my old HTC HD2.
Its about 3Mbps/1Mbps.

4G would be either if your phone said 4G (US) or H+ (EU)

See the guy said for t-mobile its running 1700/2100 i know t-mobile uses 2100 idk if the 1900 is under edge and he just didnt list it cuz he only listed 3g/4g..

I was wondering this same exact thing! I'm also considering buying it from Amazon. I want to buy the international version instead of the Tmous version because hopefully Tmous will allow me to use my $10 web2go plan with the international sensation since my IMEI isn't tracked by Tmous. But at the same time I want to know if the international version with have the 1700/2100 Tmous 4G bands.
On the the HTC HD2, only the Tmous version had the 1700/2100 band whereas the International HD2 had 850/1900 bands. Just want to know if the Sensation is gonna be the same way.

I am using the sensation on tmobile. It only says H for data. I am not sure if the software can support changing the display. The HTC hd2 I previously used was the tmo version, but I don't think that can support 4G. Is there any barrier that one can say they're on 4G? Like of your speed is above XMbps, then you're on 4G.

I got an international one today(black box). I got worried that I wouldnt get 4g (didnt have UK or USA english only asian countries) The box says:
HSPA/WCDMA (900/AWS/2100 MHz)
GSM/GPRS/Edge (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
So these are the correct bands for TMO 4g correct? I see I get the H icon on the signal meter but when I did a speed test I got really low scores (could have been the area I was in at the time though) The place I bought it from said I could exchange it for a TMO branded one because I called them and said I didnt think it was compatible with tmo's 4g network. But before I go and exchange it I want to make sure if it doesn or doesnt have the TMO bands

The H symbol is for HSPDA+ (3.5G). Make sure you see the 4G symbol to verify it does get 4G.

Tmo's "4G" network is only hspda+ at least as far as I know. I think the tmo version and the version I have just have different icons for when on the 4G network. Tmo's version says 4G and the Asian version shows the H

[Q] [Noob question] Frequency bands

I work for Tmous retail sales and we have never really been taught anything about bands. Ive been pretty curious myself since some customers come into the store with AT&t phones asking about tmo service. I have been instructed (by a fellow retail associate) to tell them that no At&t phone will ever have 3G on tmo ( I assume thats just the safe answer though).

To tie that together. ex: If a phone from At&t hypothetically has capabilities to use the same bands as tmous and is unlocked, can it get 3G/4G service on tmous?

Yes if a phone has all those bands for 3G, and it's SIM unlocked you can get 3G on other cell company.
The T-Mobile Vibrant actually has those AT&T bands too, if you SIM unlock the Vibrant, you can get 3G on AT&T.

Thanks for the clarification. In hopes that im not being a further nuisance, I was wondering, what about a phone that has 1 of the matching bands?
T-Mobile USA is using the 1700/2100 Mhz bands for 3G (UMTS)
T-Mobile Germany uses 1900/2100 Mhz for 3G (UMTS)
If you couldnt tell, im considering buying an iPhone (to develop on for fun). Will a phone that uses 2100 Mhz only be usable on USA towers (for 3G service)?

AT&T One X; does 3g work in Europe?

A colleague of mine wants a HTC One X with Snapdragon S4 instead of Tegra 3. The One XL from Germany is currently over 600 euro's, but AT&T's One X is only 550 dollars (like 450 euros).
I was wondering if the AT&T One X will work on 3g networks in Europe? And if not, if the radio from the One XL is flashable on the AT&T One X to make it work?
So far I've found out that de One X on AT&T supports 3g on 850 and 2100MHz, but the networks in Europe are based on 900, 1900 and 2100MHz (at least in Holland, where he lives). That means the 2100MHz should work out of the box, but the 900MHz wouldn't. I don't know if that's enough for good coverage.
Does anyone know if there are differences in hardware between the AT&T One X and One XL in Europa or if that's purely a software thing. I've asked HTC, but they didn't know unfortunately

You sure your friend is not confusing the GSM bands from the 3G ones?
The AT&T One X works perfectly on 2100 Mhz 3G. I just used it in Germany a couple weeks ago, and 3G data worked fine. The phone also works on 1900 MHz 3G (AT&T used both 850 and 1900 for 3G), if in fact your friends carrier uses that band.
Frequency support is set in hardware. You can't add frequency support by software alone.
If your friend wants to use the AT&T One X, he will need to get it SIM unlocked, of course. Folks on here have been getting it done at a couple online places for around $11.

I did. Bought the code from a guy on eBay for $4.25. In under an hour I was entering the code and using a T-Mobile SIM.
Looks like he's out of stock now, but he relists every few days.

For that matter - does anyone know if the t-mo version will work on the att LTE bands? Wasn't sure if it was like the iphone where the tmobile version of the iphone 6 was already unlocked so we could use it on att.

There's a thread on here somewhere that lists the bands, but I couldn't find it right away. Here's one from Android Central.

Here are the AT&T frequencies. If your T-mobile has these it should work:
GSM 850 MHz and 1900 MHz.
HSPA+ 850 MHz (Band V) and 1900 MHz (Band II)
LTE 700 MHz (Band XVII) and some 1700 MHz (Band IV)
The ones below are the 815 Model that is generally available on the web for about $515 unlocked.
It has been shown to work with AT&T in LTE mode.
2G: 850/1900MHz
3G: 850/1900MHz
4G: Bands 2,4,5,17 (1900,1700,850,700MHZ)
