i set up my device with everything , set up application make installations , played with wifi and installed games tried games with no interuption,
and i noticed as i was playing a game after an hour or so that the device was getting crazy hot ...
i removed backplate and touched the metal where the sim card was in ... even hotter !!!
is it the same for you ? does it really get that hot ???
(i noticed that and i brought the phone back, couse when it was hot i get foce close and sound was gone, had to wait to cool down or restart the phone to get sound back. so i hope my second phone will arrive today)
Mine gets really hot at times too, I noticed it the other day when chatting on Facebook.
Someone else mentioned that it was due to the app constantly trying to update itself, but I've now installed a temperature app so I can get some details and actually ask HTC direct about it, although it's looking like this phone will have to go back at some point...
-Just so I can keep a record, it's been idling all morning bar an email or two and it's at 26.5 degrees at the moment. Nice and cool.
you will bring the phone back to get a new one too??
I haven't sent it back yet, but then that's because it's only happened once and I want to try to get some details to present to HTC so I can get their word on it.
i askted htc on it ...
they just say .... we understand that youre disappointed ... try these solutions to get rid of the problems you have. 1. make a soft reset 2. meke a hardreset !!
if this doesnt help send the phone back to us to get a new one
thats it
Don't worry about it, it's exactly the same for the Galaxy SII. These dual core CPUs are designed to run hot, they have to be with the limited space available and almost nothing in the way of heat dissipation. The Galaxy SII shuts itself off as a safety measure if it thinks it will be damaged by the heat (never happened to me though) and I'm sure the Sensation has a similar safety mechanism.

Mine lasted for 12 days and then it just has gone apesh.t. Lock screen and scrolling and random reboots while I am using an app. No volume at all then very weak volume(it was pretty weak to begin with). HTC widgets not working at all. Device does not register or acknowledge phone call and I have been missing phone calls. touchscreen issues also. This is my third one and there is a fourth on the way. I do like this phone but if the one on the way has issues as well and there is no word on an update fix from HTC than I believe I will just return it and wait a short time for the EVo3D which is rumored to hit T mobile shortly. It does not seem to suffer from the multitude of issues that the Sensation does and has more ram than the Sensation. I played with one at Bestbuy and it appeared to be smoother and faster than the Sensation and the touchscreen was really quite good. T Mobile also acknowledged to me that it does need a software upgrade but stated they have no idea when it will come about. I have doubts that root and custom roms will fix all of the issues but then again it just might.

well im hoping for an update , i really like this phone alot , i really dont want an evo 3d ,more ram but less camera and video recording , im sure once the bootloader gets cracked then the sky is the limit for this phone , i mean look what the devs did for the HD2 , im gonna stick it out for as long as i can , if things don get straighten out ill just wait for the next best thing , and it wont be a samsung phone , i hate them ,ill just wait for the next htc phone to hit tmobile thats not the evo ,if that even happens
I had the same thing happen, and also got a replacement on the way.... Tuesday also. This will be my fourth. I had 3 g2x phones and now 4 sensations.. honestly.the sensation has more issues, but its a better phone. Last chance on Tuesday, if not, I'm going back g2x ...
I think they push phones out to fast now and need to use more quality..
yep. mine has gone nuts about a couple of hours. i have it since june 17 and everything worked perfect and now the wifi wont work. 2 weeks reading all these things here and i was thinking that i dodge the bullet but it got me.
EDIT : i think i jump the gun too fast. tested my ps3 thru the wireless network and it connects like 50% of the time. again the ps3 is in the same room as the router. went to my cousins house and the phone conected to the wireless effortless on the first try. i dont know if it is the phone or the router.i dont know what to think anymore.

I also have a G2X (my fourth one) andi it is pretty doggone solid, no major issues. I too had thought I had gotten lucky with the Sensation(3rd one) but after 12 days it is apparent that I did not. I also believe the Sensation ( with all of its warts and issues) is the better phone or the phone with the greatest potential. I am beginning to wonder if the problem lies with consumers like me. I continue to buy and support companies and devices (cell phones) that are defective out of the gate and then continue to sit by and hope that the device is updated and made to work like it should have been out of the box, when the track record shows that this is not always the case (maybe even rarely). I would not tolerate a computer that had issues out of the box, nor a TV or a Car and the list goes on. I guess I am just too eager or hungry for the cutting edge cell phones so I accept (even though I grumble) whatever they throw out at the time. Knowing ahead of time that there will be issues and that some will not be resolved. I guess instead of looking at the cell phones I should be looking at my actions and desires surrounding the cell phones. Maybe it is the pursuit of the unreachable goal--the perfect smartphone, that leads me to keep up the acceptance of mediocrity..LOL

Yep exactly, and we will keep buying them no matter what , I originally was gonna wait a month or 2 after the sensation cane out to actually get one ,looking back now I probably should have , I guess when the next superphone comes out ill try to hold back a little longer , I just wish I hadn't sold my HD2 now ,at least is have a great phone to fall back on while these issues get resolved ...oh well good luck to everyone who's in the same boat as me right now
Mine went crazy yesterday, but today is fine again ... Strange

Mine came to me nuts...so I grounded it and let it sit in the box, hoping it would learn its lesson. No dice. Tried it again last night and it was an ungrateful POS. So I called amazonwireless to return it. They offerred to send a replacement instead. After seeing all you guys with replacements,, thought I would give it a try too.
Ironically,, I called for the sensation replacement from my G2x
Strangest thing... this morning I grabbed my phone first thing. It was plugged in so I unplugged it.
I pushed the power button and nothing, it wouldn't turn on. So I took the battery out and put it back in.
Turned it on and that battery was at just about 30%, yet it had been on the charger all night.
So, for some reason my phone turned itself off and would not turn back on AND it did not charge all night while plugged into the charger.
To top it off-- Yesterday my phone all of a sudden had the screen problem. Couldn't type, get carousel working etc...
NOW- it works great!
I think the device itself is fine. Tmobile and Htc need to release a os update.

Just over a week ago I saw three used Docomo HTC HT-01a phones (Raphael 100) for sale in a used electronics shop for 2000 yen. That's about $20. I've been successful in getting Linux and Android to run on all sorts of things so I thought I would see what I could do with one.
Luckily for me there was already a rom in development.
The first thing I had to do was flash the bootloader. That was pretty easy using the ActiveSync software. Then I downloaded the Windows Mobile 6.1 English Rom from HTC. I tried out a few other custom roms but really the one from HTC was the best I just needed English instead of Japanese.
The new Rom was able to connect to Docomo and everything set up nicely.
Then I came back to XDA to get Android roms.
I tried 2.1 first and it didn't work so well. If the phone fell asleep it would not wake back up. If I tried to make a call the call would only last for about 30 seconds until the phone would quit on me. On top of that I would actually have to take the battery out to reboot the phone. Also, if I plugged in the charger the phone would be fine, but if I unplugged the charger it would crash.
Then I tried the FRX06 and it was much better but not that much. The phone could do some things and I could actually make a call. I set up Skype and Sipdroid to turn the phone into a wifi house phone for my son and things seemed ok. But it required care, a lot of care. I basically had to look after the phone. If I didn't use App Killer and do something with the phone about every 20 minutes then it would crash.
A couple of days ago I put in the FRX07 and this is a huge improvement. The phone can now basically last all day and won't crash. It still needs to be plugged in frequently but I guess thems the breaks. Skype and Sipdroid both work well but they seem to work best if only one is running at the same time. Also the official Skype from the market is broken so I went to Freewarelovers to get the old skype and it works fine. Don't use anything after 1.0.0.84. All the 2.0's are broken.
Anyway, FRX07 really seems to be a winner. I went one whole day using only this as my main phone and it gave me no problems besides wanting lots of energy. I didn't have to reboot or fall back to WM 6.1 for anything. I did have to be patient when looking up a few things on the internet or using the new app but it was still faster then WM would have been. I did find that it functioned better if I turned off animations and streamlined the homescreen.
Now I just wish that I could replace WM completely with Android or at least install android onto the internal memory and have the full use of the SD card. I seems like there is enough memory for that but I may be wrong.
Also, it looks like the screen turns off when I hit the power button, but I think the OS still thinks its on. It still gets hot and uses more power than it should. I don't know exactly what's going on there. I'm more of a hardware guy than a software guy so I noticed. It isn't a big deal but that might be where the battery is going.
Anyway, thanks to the new rom I now have a $20 wifi phone for my house and a second phone in case my Xperia X10 ever dies on me.
Thanks a bunch to the developers.
Have you tried Gingerbread alpha yet? The panel collapse code is still being worked on; the system just turn the display to "0" instead of "off". Will require a devs expertise to get this working. At any rate, there is more in the TP android threads and it seems arrrghhh is quite the tester and occasional team player from time to time. Can't blame him for being upset at the noobs as well as me sometimes. There are still some issues for our device that are still being worked out and others that are being looked over. Glad you got around to checking FRX07 out and that it works for you. Some haven't had that luxury yet and others are still lost in the abyss. Give it a once over if you'd like to get a preview of gingerbread on your device! It would be recommended to make a backup of your microSD IF you have a good configuration.
Thanks. I'll check out the 2.3 when I get a chance. So far the most use the phone gets is when my son watches Thomas the Tank Engine videos or plays a Thomas game. He's almost four but has already figured out how to do that!
Does anybody have this problem , sometimes i think it is getting pretty worm even if i enter only to compose message. Its not normal, as soon as i pick the cell and enter the menu, it starts with heating , i think this is draining the battery even more... and on calls it get so hot , after like 1 min into conversation... Does anybody have the solution for this ... And i think the reason is mostly antenna ..because its a little warm when i get sms or very hot when i receive call , as for when i use gprs/3g for surfing.
p.s. and i'm not talking about games , i guess thats normal ... i dont play them that much anyway..
ye - mine gets strangely warm sometimes but it seems to be located on the screen and the panel directly behind the screen on the back of the phone
I assumed it was linked to the dialer eating the battery but I could be wrong
That's normal, its even in the manual that shipped with the phone...
I think its normal warm because the build material.
Yeah , i red it too. Its common sense for HTC Sense to produce heat during working time... so i guess i can leave with it
I just bought Samsung Skyrocket phone from ATT, initially after about 20 mins of video or voice chat phone was getting really heat up at the back by the camera. I exchanged the device but still the same issue. Is this just how Skyrocket works or is there a setting which can be changed? It is getting heat up than normal phone
Mines been fine. The only tome it'll her hot is if I'm playing gta + charging the phone.
Or if I'm talking + charging; and even then its after like 5 minutes of use
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
They get warm under constant use. Make sure your battery is seated well. If it causes issues with the phone exchange it again, otherwise I think it is normal for these phones.
Any phone will get warm (not hot) with prolonged use. My inebriated girlfriend kept me on the phone for 2.5 hours last night. I wouldn't say it was ever more than "warm." By no means uncomfortable.
Same problem. After 15 mins of talk time i wouldn't be able to hold the phone close to my ears. I don't two devices can be wrong, its probably something wrong with the manufacturing of Skyrocket. I am very disappointed and returning this back unless someone here has a trick to reduce that heating? Thanks
Try charging and running GPS at the same time, and you can cook your hand. I was guiding my wife yesterday trying to find car dealers and with the phone plugged into a car charger + running GPS, I had to set it down because it was getting too hot to hold.
Doesn't seem much different from any other phone I've used GPS extensively on, other than it got to those temps a lot faster than most. I mostly figured that was related to the fact that it's such a thin device.
If I use navigation while I'm driving, it gets more than warm.
If I charge it while navigating, it definitely gets really hot. I believe it may even overheat and the GPS turns itself off temporarily for a minute.
It gets warm during phone conversations.
Other than that, it stays cool doing anything else like playing a video for even hours.

Hmmm...then really whats the point in having this phone when other phones do not have this pbm
have not had any issues with the phone, only been warm when tethering via hotspot
Mine gets pretty toasty when charging and talking and using GPS, but I've got a case on it as well (which probably isn't great for the battery) but I don't notice the heat as much because of the case.
Check your actual battery temperature and see what it is when it is warm and post the results here
Mine gets warm if it's sitting in my pocket in an area w/ spotty connection. Needless to say, my battery also drains very rapidly when this happens, too.
dumb question..how do i check?
Mine gets heated under extensive use...I used wifi and slacker for 3 he's and if was warm.
rocketed to da sky using mah brain and mah thumbs...
I tried the following:
i) rooted the phone
ii) removed all att apps
iii)disabled 4g
Used for 15 mins to make a call, still same issue it gets rediculously hot. I can say for sure it is definitely gets hot than a normal phone.
Wanted to give ONE last try, exchanged the phone at att store and this phone also had same issue. I gave up and returned the phone. I might get a S-2.
I would just wait...at this point there are at least 3-6 new devices coming out and the sr and s2 will be old news

Exchanged 2nd time Yesterday & if it continues, need to get something else -- surprisingly all the sales guys in the att store say that they haven't heard this problem :-(
I hear you guys complain about it but I no have teh issue

See the problem is, because of the nature of smartphones, and that android is actually a linux os, many problems people face are'nt actually hardware problems. They are problems caused by installed apps and settings the user themself had done. Dumbphones, blackberrys and iPhones lock off this functionality, which is y I don't consider them a computer in ur hand, android is. That being said it is both a blessing and curse, this flexibility we have

so my galaxy s7 phone did it recently
exactly after one year warranty just expired the phone became painfully slow
it was a brand new phone sent from samsung as a replacement for my broken phone replaced under warranty
had zero problems for a whole year and i mean zero like no issues with speed or freezing at all
never dropped or dipped in the water to test the water resistance
always in a case since day one. no crazy apps. actually same exact apps that i have on all my phones.
no new apps were installed before slowdown
i already deleted some apps. cleaned up app cache individually and reset cache from boot screen
tested in safe mode and still slow
im not sure if the update was installed recently or not but the slowdown happened about 2 months ago. was there a tmobile update at that time?
im not really sure.
but this is the third phone that did this.
galaxy s5 that i also bought brand new for a year was well maintained and had no problems
that phone actually started lagging really bad and shutting down multiple times a week or restarting....
before that galaxy s3 did same thing. after exactly a year it became ridiculously slow for absolutely no reason
i install all the apps i use right out of the box. change all the settings to what i want and dont really make any changes after and it usually very stable for about a year
is there an app that i can use to troubleshoot?
or an app that will show me what component is slowing down the system in real time?
obviously something is slowing down the OS, theres gotta be an app that can trace the faulty app or file or component
i cant be the only one who noticed that
is there really no way to pinpoint what is slowing down the phone?
why do i have to reset everything every time it gets slow
isnt there an app that can diagnose what is loading up the system?
this phone is painfully slow suddenly with no apparent reason
Have you been able to view the CPU activity and the RAM allocation?
I am not sure how to do this, but if possible, it might reveal what is happening.
I would try disabling some of the applications one by one. First suspects would be:
1. Facebook
2. Google Play Store.
3. Youtube.
Disable one, then try the phone. If still the same, disable second and try etc.
Jim.
How is your device storage. Once you use more then 50% device storage android starts to lag. It's an issue with the OS.
device storage has always been about the same since brand new. which is about 80% on average.
doesnt safe mode disable all non stock apps? i tried safe mode with same result
windows has a resource monitor that helps alot but i dont know if android has any monitoring app that could help troubleshoot this
Samsung devices are known for getting laggy over time, try a different phone next time, in the meantime, do a factory reset and start fresh.

This is very suspect to me, but I am only a beginner.
Given zelendel's post about (re 50%), I would investigate further. Did you note his credentials?
What does all that data consist of?
What is the total storage capacity of the phone?
Perhaps some of that storage capacity is used as "swap" memory? Just guessing...........I am extrapolating Linux terminology here.
about 10-15 gigs of that is music/videos for airplane or when i have no internet. its been there since i got the phone
other things come and go like downloads documents videos images
im surprised theres no apps to troubleshoot the phone lagging when theres so many people having that problem and the best solution is to just reset the phone. which should be the last resort
if resetting the phone works most of the time then there should be an app that could look for conflicts as it runs in the background.

Depending on the amount of storage in your device that could be a lot.
Resetting the device wipes things. You really can't find an issue if the only issue is storage space. So here is a test. Remove stuff from your device. Give yourself a clean start and then go from there. Adding stuff slowly until it slows down.
I have had dozens of devices and the only time they ever got slow was due to getting low on phone storage.
This even encludes a 5 year old Samsung that I have that is as fast as the day I got it. Mind you there is nothing on it but some games for a kid. I even disabled all of Samsungs crap they install that slows a device down.
Could also be stuff acting up in the background
Run a log cat and see if anything is hanging.
cool thanks ill try that
got my internal memory to under 50%
reset cache again
deleted few apps and moved alot of them to SD card and cleared cache for those too
heres exactly whats happening
theres a delay for every action
2 wifi seems to drop in and out now since it got slow
3 facebook and browser wouldnt load anything on wifi
but as soon as i switch to data it works
i have to restart the phone alot now and close all apps multiple times a day to get them to work
also running safe mode had no effect on speed
i dont know when the last update was from tmobile but it might have been due to crappy update im not sure at this point
i got the phone last end of summer and it worked flawlessly every single day up until last 2 months exactly when warranty expired
how does samsung find faulty hardware when i send it in for service?
do they use an app?
ok this is getting ridiculous.
the phone wen to complete ****
facebook doesnt load posts unless i restert it by closing the app
phone just feels very slow overall.
constantly lags hangs. and in general just completely crappy performance slowly degrading.
i dont know why suddenly it started happening just like my last 3 phones
after about a year theres always a sudden decrease in performance and things start bugging and lagging etc
so theres no way to figure out why its slow?
isnt there some hardware tests or system scan or something that can help point to the problem?
Sorry to read that you are still having this problem Fuzzysig.
Did you try any of the suggestions in my post #4 and/or in Zelendel's post #10?
If so, which ones did you try and what resulted from those changes?

Hi, I was a Samsung user too and faced the same problem.
I went through various threads which gave me multiple solutions: rooting, removing bloatware, cpu monitoring and many more.
None of that worked. The phone was so slow that it was not usable.
Ultimately I had to throw it and buy another phone.
Then I noticed this is not just me, all Samsung users face the same problem even the flagship users.
I swear I'll never buy a Samsung phone and never let anyone buy one.
