android on HT-01a - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Just over a week ago I saw three used Docomo HTC HT-01a phones (Raphael 100) for sale in a used electronics shop for 2000 yen. That's about $20. I've been successful in getting Linux and Android to run on all sorts of things so I thought I would see what I could do with one.
Luckily for me there was already a rom in development.
The first thing I had to do was flash the bootloader. That was pretty easy using the ActiveSync software. Then I downloaded the Windows Mobile 6.1 English Rom from HTC. I tried out a few other custom roms but really the one from HTC was the best I just needed English instead of Japanese.
The new Rom was able to connect to Docomo and everything set up nicely.
Then I came back to XDA to get Android roms.
I tried 2.1 first and it didn't work so well. If the phone fell asleep it would not wake back up. If I tried to make a call the call would only last for about 30 seconds until the phone would quit on me. On top of that I would actually have to take the battery out to reboot the phone. Also, if I plugged in the charger the phone would be fine, but if I unplugged the charger it would crash.
Then I tried the FRX06 and it was much better but not that much. The phone could do some things and I could actually make a call. I set up Skype and Sipdroid to turn the phone into a wifi house phone for my son and things seemed ok. But it required care, a lot of care. I basically had to look after the phone. If I didn't use App Killer and do something with the phone about every 20 minutes then it would crash.
A couple of days ago I put in the FRX07 and this is a huge improvement. The phone can now basically last all day and won't crash. It still needs to be plugged in frequently but I guess thems the breaks. Skype and Sipdroid both work well but they seem to work best if only one is running at the same time. Also the official Skype from the market is broken so I went to Freewarelovers to get the old skype and it works fine. Don't use anything after 1.0.0.84. All the 2.0's are broken.
Anyway, FRX07 really seems to be a winner. I went one whole day using only this as my main phone and it gave me no problems besides wanting lots of energy. I didn't have to reboot or fall back to WM 6.1 for anything. I did have to be patient when looking up a few things on the internet or using the new app but it was still faster then WM would have been. I did find that it functioned better if I turned off animations and streamlined the homescreen.
Now I just wish that I could replace WM completely with Android or at least install android onto the internal memory and have the full use of the SD card. I seems like there is enough memory for that but I may be wrong.
Also, it looks like the screen turns off when I hit the power button, but I think the OS still thinks its on. It still gets hot and uses more power than it should. I don't know exactly what's going on there. I'm more of a hardware guy than a software guy so I noticed. It isn't a big deal but that might be where the battery is going.
Anyway, thanks to the new rom I now have a $20 wifi phone for my house and a second phone in case my Xperia X10 ever dies on me.
Thanks a bunch to the developers.

Have you tried Gingerbread alpha yet? The panel collapse code is still being worked on; the system just turn the display to "0" instead of "off". Will require a devs expertise to get this working. At any rate, there is more in the TP android threads and it seems arrrghhh is quite the tester and occasional team player from time to time. Can't blame him for being upset at the noobs as well as me sometimes. There are still some issues for our device that are still being worked out and others that are being looked over. Glad you got around to checking FRX07 out and that it works for you. Some haven't had that luxury yet and others are still lost in the abyss. Give it a once over if you'd like to get a preview of gingerbread on your device! It would be recommended to make a backup of your microSD IF you have a good configuration.

Thanks. I'll check out the 2.3 when I get a chance. So far the most use the phone gets is when my son watches Thomas the Tank Engine videos or plays a Thomas game. He's almost four but has already figured out how to do that!

Touch screen problems with the Fuze

As of late, my new Fuze (the 3rd one, I exchanged the other ones out because they got kinda scratched up) has been showing poor performance. And then today, the touch screen just stopped working. It still registers the touch, but it's like no matter where I touch it can only go to one of the two soft keys. Has anyone else been having this problem?
I'm going in to switch it out again, but I'm really not sure if I want to keep using the Fuze...overall, it's slow, buggy, and the GPS is trash. I love the phone, but it's just not working.
Are you using the stock ROM or did you use one of the cooked ROMs? I have a Fuze (upgraded from a Tilt) and everything works fine on mine. I read that a lot of people are having issues with the GPS. I did initially --- I could not get any GPS connectivity. I ran HTP GPS Tool and everything worked fine after that. Even after I flash another ROM it works fine. I use TomTom and GoogleMaps regularly and even GoogleMaps can get a GPS lock within 1 minute.
You may want to check the settings for the TouchFlo. Download DiamondTweak and Advanced Config 3.3. They have settings to improve the sensitivity of the touch screen... maybe you need this or at least give it a try.
As for slow, I think this has to do more with the ROM. Since I got my Fuze, the first thing I did was flash one of the cooked ROMs (of course, after HardSPL ).
Good luck.
I'm using the stock ROM, I'm kind of scared to flash a new one. I did all the performance tweaks and it made a pretty big difference, but it's still kind of slow. I can live with it though. The GPS works occasionally, but it isn't nearly as strong as other phones I've used/seen. And the touchscreen problem has nothing to do with the sensitivity, I'm fairly positive it's broken. Like, when I touch somewhere on the screen, it registers the touch as far to the left as possible (ie. I'm trying to close a program or open the task manager and it registers the touch as pressing the Start button). It may have something to do with the fact that I cleaned the screen with a monitor wipe, although I would assume that that shouldn't affect anything. It's just such a coincidence though; I literally used the monitor wipe like 2-3 minutes before it broke or screwed up or whatever. And it's not a software issue. I hard-reset it and it took a good 20 minutes to get past the screen alignment (I think it just gave up on me and went to the next screen). I'm just going to exchange it out for a new one I guess, although I'd really prefer an Xperia X1 at this point (or any point I guess...I just don't want to spend 700 dollars on it)

Dude, I hear ya..... I'm getting the same issue, it registers touch etc, you press your home key it vibrates you softrest with button on back and it starts up and I know its booted WM as I can hear the windows startup sound, It's not the first time this has happened to me, one other time after flashing a cooked rom, It did the same thing then I managed to blindly navigate the device into the bootloader then reflash the device, the screen suddenly decided to come back on at the "tap to setup device" stage, you know with the screen alignment...., then I did like 2 hard resets, cause at the time I thought that this was something to do with it, then everything has been working good as gold up untill last night when I flashed the cooks latest version, it worked for a lil bit but in my messing around with the device, the screen switched off then stayed off, I've been trying the same process that I tryed before, but it's not working, maybe I should of did the 2 hard resets straight away rather then fart arsing around loading cabs etc...?, not sure, as I'm at a loss with this one... maybe it was just on it's way out, upto HTC heaven and there's nothing I can do about it ?, God, I hope not !!, MY next thing I'm going to try is load a stock HTC ROM onto the storage card, and maybe that will work...hmmm??, anyway...do you know anymore or are you at a loss as well ?... Oh BTW, I'm using a Touch HD, with a manilla 2.5, 6.5 ROM, from one of the popular chefs, (I'm not gonna publish the chefs name) as I think it's not really his fault....everyone else seems to be OK, so must be something else, I've wondered sometimes about the amount of writes available on some types of memorys having something to do with it, but it can't be that..?, something with the screen, I've noticed it happens when the battery is running real hot as well !!, anyway if ya find out something, I'm keen to hear as well, as no one seems to be answering my post about it.....

[Q] Rogers Samsung Captivate - Has it Died on You?

I'm looking to purchase a Galaxy S in Canada, and I'm just worried with the problems that I'm hearing here for the Bell Vibrant owners. For the Vibrant owners, I'm hearing problems such as the internal SD died and so a motherboard replacement is required to fix it, the phone refuses to boot, etc. Owners of the Rogers Captivate, please report back so you can help me, as well as helping other Rogers Captivate owners.
I hope this isn't a repost btw. I did a search and didn't find anything here..
Hey,
I purchased one the day it was released in Victoria, BC. Since then, I've rooted, nandroid backup, and installed the OCLF and a bunch of other cool ****.
I'm constantly turning it on and off. On and off. I have the screen brightness to the max (that's the way I like it), and at stock firmware, it's freaking awesome! Runs really smoothly. I don't really find much lag, but I can see room for plenty of improvement, which are going to be coming up shortly. My biggest complaint is the battery life (65% of mine goes to the brightness), but lasts just as long as any phone on standby. I went on eBay and got 3 batteries and a charger for $10. All hail, removable batteries.
I don't doubt more phones will come out within the next month or two, but if you want one today. I'd recommend it.
Let me know if I can influence your decision in anyway.
100% agree with TheShamsMan above ^
Got this phone from Vancouver @ Day 1 when Rogers launched it. Have done a ton of flashing on it, adding things, removing things, turning on and off the phone..haven't had a single problem with it so far. GPS has worked wonderfully for my needs so far(haven't tried car navigation yet though but i'm sure it would aswell work well). 100% recommend the phone. Even though some info for the Nexus S is out, I think the Captivate's looks beat it hands out. Let me know if you have any question~
Only had it a few days, but delighted with it so far.
I wasn't thrilled with the battery life, until I figured out the default wi-fi sleep policy was killing it.
The phone is pretty good, i've had it about 2 1/2 weeks right now.
I did encounter the shutdown issue though, but after using CaptivateKeepAlive for a little while (and then uninstalling it), it has seemed to gone away, though it did happen one more time recently, so I'm playing around with the battery and seeing what the trouble is (I have contacted futureshop though, and have a replacement phone waiting for me whenever they get more in stock).
Besides that issue, I'd say the battery is the only other thing. It seems to me, that even after applying all the good settings, I use quite a bit of battery. Its hard to tell because I play games on the phone often, but using batteryplotter and spareparts, it seems that most of this is caused by my wifi, and the phone always in a 'running' state. I don't mind very much right now, as I'm always near a plug, and I could make it last a day if I needed to without charging (though no games, and very little use).
So Battery problems, and shutdown problems aside, the phone is lovely. I have no GPS problems like ATT phones report, and no problem with lag either (though perhaps I just don't notice it yet).
All in all, the phone is quick and responsive, and the 16GB internal SD is quite nice. I wonder though, if its possible to use the roms for the ATT captivate on the Rogers captivate? (given the phone is a different model #)

I hope the your GPS non-issue is the rule and not the exception on the Rogers Captivate. I do remembering reading an article where a Rogers rep stated that their phone with throughly tested to make sure the GPS was fixed.
Assuming it's the rule ... I wonder what change they made to get the GPS working as it should?

I dont know what they tweaked...but it also works great for me.
All in all the phone is great. I am coming from a Blackberry Bold 9000 that I used for 2 years and decided that I wanted to try something differents.
The Wifi Sleep policy is something you should change when you get your phone.
Settings -->Wireless and network --> Wi-Fi settings --> (menu button) Advanced Settings -->Wifi Sleep policy --> Never
The constant switching between wifi and 3G drains the battery like you won't believe!
Thanks guys. Looks like I'll have an excellent time with my Captivate.
It's nice to hear that no one's Captivates died on them yet. It has me worried, but at the same time I think the whole thing was blown out of proportion.
Hey,
I bought my Captivate from Rogers on Sept 25 (I believe it was the launch date) in Ottawa, ON. I tried out the stock firmware and everything worked swimmingly. I had great GPS locks, the phone was quick enough for anything I did, and did everything it was supposed to. As long as I was mindful of how bright my screen was and whether GPS/WIFI/Syncing was toggled, I was able to push my phone reasonably into the second day without charging it.
Since the first few days, I've been loading Cognition software (currently 2.4) onto my phone. Not because the stock firmware was horrible or anything, I'm just an obsessive tinkerer who needs the absolute best performance and reliability out of his phone. Unlike many of the AT&Ts out there, I didn't break my GPS after loading cognition. My phone is lightning quick, whether it is picking up a GPS satellite lock or playing my music through the auxiliary input in my car. The battery lasts just as long as it ever did, maybe even longer. Again, Cognition isn't a miracle battery cure, and you still have to be mindful of any running apps in the background or if any of the GPS/WiFi/Syncing is toggled to really max out your battery life. Alternatively, you could get an app like locale which automates things like that for you.
If you're looking to buy a version of the Samsung Galaxy S, I really can't think of a better version to buy than the Rogers one. I haven't had ANY troubles with it and it seems to have the least amount of problems between the ones released in Canada and the US. I may be wrong on that, since my researched focused mostly on the Captivate, but perhaps someone could verify what I just said.
I'd go for it,
Tom
The phones pretty damn fantastic, I just wish Samsung would drop Touchwiz and release vanilla Android. Seriously, no one likes it, and everyone likes new versions of Android.

DOUBLE POST! (Sorry guys, not sure if it's an issue here, I know on some forums it is)
To answer your question, yes you can. Personally, i've had issues with data not working and OCLF + stock is more than fast enough for me, after I got rid of TwLauncher. One thing to note though, is that you will have a permanent ATT screen before the "I896" screen, so if that bugs you, stay away.
I picked up the Captivate last night and loving it a lot. However I am having a few problems with it that I dunno how to solve yet. One of em is the poor battery life, and another is texting. I'm not gonna repost it here. If I have to, I'll make another thread.
Thanks for the feedback guys!
This is all very good news. I had the Samsung Vibrant (Bell) version before and never really ran into big problems other than some freezes, but let go of it because my buddy's internal SD died, so that phobia caused me to get the Captivate, since they are all the same internals..
Mine is coming in the mail from retentions.. Lets hope i'm not disappointed. Already got a case from SGP lined up and on its way, also the 2 battery + battery charger combo. Already know what to expect.. Surprised that the GPS is fixed!.. I will be sure to check when I receive my unit tomorrow.
Has everyone checked it with the actual GPS receiver turned on? Because, I know that the "wireless networks" gps box always works. But what if it is unchecked, and only the GPS box is on, does it still work then?

I would also like to know if someone can please confirm whether the roms for the ATT captivate (i-897) are still compatible with the Rogers Captivate (i-896), just incase I want to flash a rom in the future.
Also, if the OCLF is safe to install? Or do we have to wait for one specially made for the Rogers Captivate?

Virtuous v0.8.1 (Vision) Troubleshoot! Help please! :)

Hello everyone, I successfully managed to Perma-Root my T-Mobile G2 as of this morning.
When I first installed this ROM (Virtuous v0.8.1) I really had high hopes for it, however when I first installed the room via clockwork reboot, I just clicked for a backup of my Stock OS - no clearing of data or cache files.
Upon the completion of the ROM my phone promptly rebooted. The whole process of rebooting took alone 5 minutes (at least) and I started to get weary seeing has how my phone stayed on the home HTC Screen (Boot-up Screen) for quite a while. And just before I was thinking of pulling the battery because it seemed as if my phone froze, it launched. However in doing so, everything appeared extremely laggy.
Everything was force-closing, constantly, even after I said to force close the program. It made it absolutely daunting, and I wondered what the hell did I do my phone! It was extremely irritating to navigate back to ROM Manager and hopefully be able to restore my phone back to normal. Eventually I ended up rebooting my phone to it's original status, and decided perhaps it was just all the previous apps and data on my phone causing all the aforementioned complications.
However I felt as if I should try again with Vision (Or what I believe to be the Desire Z Rom for my G2) and decided to clear all data on my phone when prompted - as well backing up my data for a second time.
In doing so, the restart process went smoothly as before. Then came the reboot/loading of my phone, and the screen didn't appear nearly as long. So there was a sigh* of relief there for me. My phone loaded and every thing appeared to working just fine and dandy - albeit with the expense of virtually all my phone data (Besides data that was obviously kept on my SD Card). Thus I was getting quite content with Sense and I actually kept it. Since I was extremely tired as I installed Sense/Rooted my phone very early in the morning (and since it's winter break for me, my sleep schedule has seemingly reversed) I decided to go and sleep.
Waking back up now, I decide to test some things, and ensure everything was going well. I sent a couple texts out, browsed the web, watched YouTube, and everything appeared to check out as running the way it should - except text messaging.
I was completely baffled as to why no one was replying my texts - I thought well maybe since it's New Years Eve people must be busy etc. No Harm done there right?
So I decided to pass it off, only to realize that hours later I receive several responses from the people that I've texted/new text massages from other friends. Yet they're hours behind!!!!!
Anybody know what's up with that? It's basically impossible for me to hold a conversation via text message on my phone now as messages are greatly delayed. I never had this problem with my Phone using the Stock OS of my G2, yet as soon as I install Sense this problem arises (and apparently it's Android 2.2.1) I could have sworn my G2 originally was 2.2.2? I'm sorry I'm just barely starting to get in the whole process ROMs/Rooting my phone, and getting more interested in Android.
Is there a specific Desire Z allocated ROM Designed for the G2? If so can someone please point me towards it? The description for the Virtuous Rom read to me that it was a Desire Z Port - so I thought I was downloading the correct thing.
However I'm sure if I'm having this problem, other people might have come across this problem? I mean it's no biggy for me to reflash back to Stock, and pretend everything is the same way it was - but I'm really taking a liking to Sense, and I want to see if there are at least alternatives - or perhaps I just installed the wrong ROM.
Thank you for your time!

[Q] Bad ESN Mesmerize, few questions

So I got one for $34, delivered today. Looks perfect other than a couple scuffs on the bottom corners. The seller said it was working fine (despite listing saying it was for parts/not working). I don't have any usable cell service where I live without getting a booster and antenna of some sort, so I don't care about activating it. I plan on using it basically as an internet tablet to check email, etc.
I do not have an sd card, charger, or data cable yet, they should come tomorrow. Since the battery is close to dead, I can't find out much. It turns on fine, gets to the home screen and has that "too many pattern attempts" screen (screen looks perfect, not a single scratch by the way) with the google login. I know not to try a full hard reset with the battery being about dead, but I have tried to bring up the menu option so I know how to get there when I do get it charged. I have tried every key combination method I can find with no luck, keys ~seem to all be working from what I can tell, read in the comments that a few people had no luck. One time I got that screen with the android and shovel, waiting for download. I was wondering if that is from the factory, or if that means it's been rooted?
Basically, all I really want to do is restore it to stock for right now. Maybe something better down the line, I'd just like to use it for now since I've never even really seen a smartphone before, because nobody has one with the poor cell service here. I have the EE19 build downloaded, and I see the restoring to stock thread. I want to do it the right way. So, if it has lagfix installed, I see I need to disable that. Any other things I should know about? I was just wondering if it sounds rooted, if I need to do something else if it is. I don't have a lot of time on my hands to do research, although I did a little already, and I have a very limited internet connection so I can't download a lot of things, I wasn't expecting to need to do this when I communicated with the seller.
Thanks for any advice or tips.
Edit: I was also wondering the best way to go about checking the ESN, or if I should try. Like I said, I don't care to activate it on US Cellular, but if I'd resell it or something. I know I could use PagePlus, but the Verizon tower is 30 miles away, so not much chance of that working well either. I don't think it should be stolen or anything, but was thinking if the account ever got settled or anything....
Well I got it, posting from it now. Only problem is unsuccessful download errors in app market, after download is almost complete. On wifi. I tried every solution I found for that with no success. Other than that, no problems.
Tried every fix for the market, deleting cache, changing permissions on vendor.apk, etc. Seeing it was a common problem with few solutions that work, I flashed CM7. That worked great, apps installed fine, but of course wireless cut out constantly, not usable for long. Saw that was common, tried everything with no luck. Went back to stock, then airplane mode, now market works fine. It fails whenever not in airplane mode. So I'm sticking with this for now.
Can't activate anyway, but best I saw was -104db, but mostly no service. My LG tracfone does a little better with reception.

Third Phone - Not the Charm!

Just got my third G2x from T-Mobile. I'm running LauncherPro. I must have done something wrong because I backed up to SD card but after installing new phone it gave me an error reading SD card. I had to reset everything!
Anyway, I got a 2nd replacement (this is number 3 phone) because the 2nd one continued to have the random reboot issues.
This one is different from the other two. The icons in the top bar are smaller and the GPS signal button is different. Could this be an upgraded software?
It states Android 2.3.3, kernel version 2.6.32.9 and Software version LG-P999-V21e
Trouble is, this phone is way worse than either of the first two! I think only 1 reboot so far (1 day) but 3 times now after the phone sleeps I have to remove battery to turn it back on! And it will not allow me to mount the phone as a USB. Sometimes the message appears to turn on USB but it will not work. Touching the screen does nothing. Then the screens start to rapidly change.
Looking like number 4!
What other programs have you installed? These types of issues are almost always apps and not the OS or the hardware. The fact you are having similar problems with three phones seems to indicate that even more. Stop blaming the device and figure out what you are doing to it to screw it up.
Try installing the GB drivers to your computer via LG. That's what I had to do to get my phone to mount.

I agree. "I went through 8 G2x's and all of them did the same thing after I restored my backup..."
Also, get off the stock firmware as it is absolutely unstable (Sleep of Death (SOD) and resets). I've been running MIUI since mid-August and haven't had 1 reset or SoD. Most CM7 nightly builds are good but a few will cause issues. Look at the stable version of CM7 or Weapon.

The stock Gingerbread firmware is absolutely rock solid. I have been running it since it was released and have had zero problems. The only change to the system is that I rooted it. If I install an app that gives me the slightest trouble I uninstall it immediately. There is nothing wrong with the GB rom as LG delivered it. The Froyo rom did have problems, but the GB rom is very good. Many of the custom roms are based on it and just have hacks and tweaks. Very few are compiled from source like CM is.
Update to Phone
First, let me say that T-Mobile Customer Service is great! Every time I call or visit the store they are friendly and try their best to help me.
I called T-Mobile and explained the issues on this phone, as one person wrote above the "SOD". She walked me through a bunch of steps, and I'm fine with that, I understand she has to be sure i have done all the typical troubleshooting. She confirmed that the new one had GB.
She is sending phone number 4 out today. Meanwhile she said go by the store to have them check the battery, just in case. I did that, it was kind of funny. Gal says, no need to test it, I'll just grab a new one. She comes back and inserts new battery, "There ya go, brand new battery". Ah, Miss, I say, it won't turn on now. "No, that can't be, its a new battery". She finally went and got me yet another new battery!
Hopefully this 4th phone will do the trick.
As for the apps, maybe I do need to uninstall some, but it seems like what I have are all mainstream apps:
Launcherpro
Beautiful Widgets
Touchdown Pro
Pure Calendar
Juice Defender
Batter Monitor Widget (free edition)
All of the above are paid apps too, not free versions (except Battery Monitor).
Any thoughts, known issues on these?
Thanks!
All those are pretty common apps, none of which I've had trouble with. Juice defender has been a cause of connectivity, etc issues for some people, but works fine on all my devices.
If I were you I would ***** until they replaced it with a Sensation, Amaze, SGS2, etc. I've seen so many people with 3,4,5,6 replacements on this board....why? As much as I like the form factor, the G2x is not worth 4 replacements. NO product is worth 4 replacements. Needing to have a product replaced is one thing, having to replace the replacement, or more, is ridiculous. Fool me once....
At what point do you say, "wow screw this POS." 4 replacements is a company jacking you around. I got lucky with a mostly mint G2x on launch day. Had it had issues I would have replaced it, beyond that..... the G2x is a nice phone, but there is absolutely zilch nada NOTHING special enough about it to deserve 4 replacements.
I don't mean to sound like a douche or harsh or anything. I just don't get why this is a recurring theme on this board. Would you do this with a pair of jeans, or with a TV, or with tires? No. The product sucked the first time, why repeat the experience?
I hear ya Adamhart. On the phone with CS today I asked this very question. She said I was not eligible for a different pone ... yet. She indicated that x number of returns within 90 days usually trips the option. First sign of trouble on number 4 and I will be calling. When the phone is working I like it, but I'd happily trade it for something else.
Thanks for the note on Juice Defender, I noticed on another thread some issues so for the moment I have it turned off.
Fouth Phone Arrived
So number 4 arrived next day. I set it up. Such a pain to have to reinstall everything. So far all is good. The battery life is not improved but one day later with no reboots and it starts up without a problem (no sleep of death!).
So far so good.....
I' ve been using an extended battery for a few months now and its been great. No reboots or SOD issues.
Couple of weeks ago I insert the stock battery. Within the hour I have 1 freeze up and 3 SOD! That stock battery is defective. Its been the cause of 80% of my problems with this device.
4th phone has same problems. Already posted a rant! I'm going to try rooting!
You know I never had a problem with my g2x and I see all these people going thru 3-6 phones THANK GOD I'm not on that statics.

And I see mostly the ones who have problems don't usually nvflash cwm and install a custom rom.

I broke my last one (slammed it on concrete) so got a replacement through Asurion, they sent me a refurb (as they tend to do).
thing worked well for the first day, albeit a bit weak on battery, then started having charge issues and general mis-reporting on the battery (it'd say 100% when it meant 20%, around 5 hours after being unplugged it would drop very steeply (~75%) to catch up)
I noticed on the 1809#*999# menu that the Factory Version was registering as Unknown. After a few more days of it being a pain in the ass I went ahead and did a Factory Reset. After which the Factory Version reported the correct numbers.
Works almost flawlessly now, I'm getting a good 30 hours of battery life out of the thing (mostly texting + standby). I'm currently using the default launcher with Go Contacts and Go SMS (It sucks Go Contacts can't clear missed calls properly on 2.3.3 but it's a minor complaint), Facebook, Battery Monitor Widget (3c), and a few other small apps.
Also, I noticed on my first phone that JuiceDefender seemed to cause Sleep of Death issues. At least thats what the process of elimination had me believe (and this was back on Froyo). IMO - just leave everything alone with regards to task killers and battery enhancers, GB actually does a very good job of battery management on its own.
I continued to have trouble with number 4. Called T-Mo. Long story short they said "nothing we can do until LG comes out with new software update".
Phone is just not useable the way it is (mine that is) so I finally followed the advice of so many on this board and I rooted the phone and installed CM7.
I was a little freaked out a first because CM7 looks so different. Now I am comfortable with it. I have loaded up all the apps and configurations again. So far it is good. A couple of times the phone shut down but that may be more to all the changes I have been doing. One the whole it is far more stable than stock. Battery life is a tad improved too, but still not great.
My mom is about to embark on her third try. She doesn't download apps at all. Phone won't hold call for more than a minute.
