The great G2x LCD Bleed issue is bogus. Or you can prove it - T-Mobile LG G2x

SUMMARY: If the backlight bleed on the G2x was a real issue, there would be pictures of the problem in any real world scenario. A problem on a normal menu screen, or App, or Game, or Movie viewing....would be shown in pictures, WHERE ARE THEY? Theoretically this could be a massive issue is all we have seen from hardware-techno-unsavvy-perfectionists If its real....show some real problems in pics or youtube.
--------------------------------------------------------------
1. The G2x has an H-IPS screen, with excellent contrast ratio for an IPS lcd. The most significant feature of the backlight on a mobile smartphone is its ability to showup in direct sunlight. Here the G2x is excellent in the day. It does excellent.
2. A LCD light is always on. Black is just the LCD blocking all the light out. The slight bleeding seen in G2x screens at the corners is an aspect of the backlighting creeping around. Some screens get better over time because the glues involved in assempble cure more over time.
3. Being an IPS screen there is something called white glow, on blacks, you can angle the screen to create more or less glow. Glow is not bleed. You can google white glow for IPS....here is one ( http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/p/19298893/19570332.aspx ) White glow is part of the IPS nature. Only very very high end monitors have Advanced True White Polarizers, and that technology is not even being made anymore.
3. If you don't like the slight screen bleed, or white glow, you are better off with going with AMOLED, which will not have either. Plus AMOLED is faster for games. I think the LCD in G2x is exceptional, but higher resolution and or AMOLED are better. Don't bother doing an endless G2x return trying to get the AMOLED features out of a H-IPS screen.
4. With all the hemming and hawing and people saying the bleed is horiffic, terrible, unacceptable....etc etc etc.....there has not been a single posting or video that shows the problem. Sure we can take DRAW and show an all black screen and go into the closet and see the small bleed. (Draw has two default Pen colors, one slightly yellow, the other cool white. Be sure to make it white when testing white writing on a black screen...clear data in DRAW and then compare the two default pen colors, one is yellowish by default)
Yes we can see the all black screen in complete darkness.....but how about anything real.
5. I have to conclude if the G2x had screen problems in normal usage, we would see pictures of it. Picture of
A. A dark background wallpaper with Icons, that show problems. In the day, in a room, in a very dark room. Yet not a single picture to be found....and I have googled looking for them.
B. Picture of a dark moving playing in a dark room, or a normal lighted room, where the problem is shown. Just rewind and take a video of the problem. Heck even a screen shot on a freeze.
C. Any picture or videos at all of the Backlight bleeding issue on the G2x in normal usage. The menus...a movie, during gameplay. Anything where normal color images are being used. Anything showing the bleeding in anything besides a pure black acid test.
Unless someone can show some images of this horrific bleeding issue, I have to chalk it up to technology naive perfectionists doing worst case testing and never bothering to check actual usage.
I would love to be proven wrong here....so go ahead....until then its just bogus.
____________
This thread probably has the best chronicling of the "issue" with images http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards...ecked-10-so-far-waiting-for-the-next-shipment
All are just black screen. Some of the pictures with a problem, I would call excellent for an LCD to block light. The 30 inch monitor shows White Glow as you get off angle from center. Some of the picture use very poor exposure. You can see super glowing....but if you look at the soft keys and the bottom, they are glowing too. You will never see softkey lighting in the real world, that looks anything like those glowing pictures.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCW-014m33c this video in spite of what the maker says, does not show horrific problems. His assumption is that users will use outside direct sunlight settings of full brightness for watching movies. Not likely. The video does show some actual screens that don't seem to be a problem at all....one does look like 2.3 the other 2.2

Too long and after seeking you say its not on anything else but a black screen made me stop reading
I have minor bleeding and it is getting worse over the last month I've had this phone... (had it sense 4/19)
I watch tons of movies and can see it
I play Nova and other darkish games and can see it
I watch YouTube and can see it
Your whole post that prolly took 10 mind to type and spell check ( not including the time to find/copy/paste links)
Is your opinion some think it is bad.. I can live with what I have now but not as it getting worse....
BTW you can see it on the black notification. Bar... I.e. gingerbread

Pretty much a solid black screen AGAIN.....I wonder what the electrical issue is with your soft keys, as they seem to be glowing heavily white. Might it be overexposed whites in a completely dark room? Sitting in the complete dark, with a 95% dark cell phone image, and turned up to 100% brightness is lame and....NOT VERY REALISTIC OF NORMAL USAGE

Okay so you posted the video...and have had 3 different G2x phones, but are not saying the phone you had for a month is getting worse, as if you did not swap out phones. Plus you say recently on youtube that your phone has minimal problems.
On the hardware side, there are reasons why you see the artifacts you see. You already said you did not read what your are disagreeing with.
Your video does show the bleed has no consequences to the 2.3 top black banner.
T-Mobile accepts returns because in the first 30 days it has to, and as a practice it is good business to replace newly purchased hardware, where the customer insists there is a problem with. It's a fallacy to say that because T-Mobile accepts returns, that it agrees that a defect is present, the sold the phone with a no question asked 30 day return policy.
Nobody has shown a picture of video of the G2x Bleeding problem impacting any real world usage. The menus in your video when you show them, seem pretty OK actually.
Dilated eyes...but lets not make this complicated. Nate420 if you have all these problems under normal usage....lets see them, how about an updated youtube.

Sypvie, pretty sure you are just eating peanuts out there, but if you have some sort of point about the hardware on the G2x, do share....

To the OP. I understand where you coming from but you could have came across a little less cocky. I am running a Gingerbread ROM with the dark notification bar and in a normal lit setting I cannot see any bleeding. The only time I can see it is when I am laying in bed with the lights out with my display brightness cranked to 100%. If my brightness is set to Automatic or below 50% there is absolutely no bleeding, even when on a all black screen. Do I think people are over blowing this issue? Yea, I actually do. You can't see the bleeding during a normal lit setting and if your in a pitch black room, all you have to do is turn your brightness down. This display is to damn bright at 100% in a dark room anyway.

My bleed went away 100% with usage.
And also, I disagree with IPS-LCD versus AMOLED - IPS-LCD kicks the **** out of AMOLED, particularly Super AMOLED with its crappy pentile matrix display. I could literally see the pixels in my Captivate's screen, particularly when reading text. The display that is on the G2x is by far the best screen I have ever had the pleasure of owning, seeing, or using.

What about the Super AMOLED Plus with is RGB matrix? Now that is a sight to be seen. It looks like the icons are floating on top of the display.

AMOLED just doesn't look realistic to me. The color reproduction on an LCD looks much more realistic than the colors on AMOLED. Personal preference I guess. I will admit that SA+ looks intriguing and is quite vibrant but its TOO vibrant - I'm glad they ditched the pentile matrix though - it was pretty annoying buying an 800x480 phone and setting it side by side with my Evo which had a much larger screen and seeing NO pixels on the Evo and seeing lots of them on the Captivate.

MT4G Bad Display vs Good Display, Which do you have? Don't wait get a good one today!

Well there has been a lot of interesting things taking place in regards to the MT4G display quality, or contrast and colors. There seems to be good evidence of some devices being shipped with a more rich color and better contrast display and with better viewing from angles. The majority of the ones shipped have the less than perfect display which has less contrast and the colors, white are washed out and blacks are not true dark blacks. And the inferior display has trouble with viewing angles not being clear and has a washed out look, the launcher bar is gray instead of black etc.
This has been discussed here on XDA in this thread starting at post 32
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838379&page=4 , and on the MT4G T-Mobile Official forums at
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/myTouch-4G/quot-Inferior-quot-display-vs-quot-superior-quot-pictures/td-p/592439
I would like to thank everyone who has helped bring this issue forward and to help substantiate it. A big thanks to btbuck1, DADDYDC650, spitacular1, for getting this ball rolling. Thanks for your support and I know everyone who has received there better display device thanks us for bringing this to everyone's attention, including T-Mobile and HTC. I know at least some of the CSR's and employees have seen the thread in the official T-Mobile MT4G forum. So hopefully positive steps are in the works to correct things.
Here is a Video I shot of my new device with a good display compared to my wifes with a bad display. The video is not perfect as I'm a amateur and no tripod.

Here is a picture which shows the differences with the top pictures showing the washed out less contrast display and the bottom pictures showing the better clear higher contrast display with good viewing at all angles.

It is unclear if these different devices have actual hardware differences or if there is some change in the software which is making the differences. HTC has made a response to a user that it had something to do with a coating on the LCD and they were aware of the problem. This has not been confirmed as of yet.
EDIT: There seems to be one thing in common and that is the LCD version LCD-SO-C2 is the good screen. Some developers have said it is a SONY LCD. And the bad one is the LCD-SH-C2 is said to be from SHARP. I repeat I personally have no proof but well respected dev have mentioned this in their findings. So you be the judge. (2 different screens and 2 different LCD model numbers) makes some logical sense.
EDIT: There are a couple of ways to get the LCD information to know for sure which type of display you have. If you are rooted with Eng hboot you should be able to see the system info in hboot to view the LCD versions.
Second method for stock non rooted devices is to install Terminal emulator from the market. Restart your phone and immediately open the Terminal emulator and type "dmesg" without quotes. You will see a lot of data. Just scroll all the way back to the top and look around line 14-15 and you will see a line that ends with Panel Type=1 or Panel Type=2
Panel type 1 is the bad screen and Panel type 2 is the good screen.
Here is a picture of what to look for:
Thanks to shlongwoodian for his posting it and you can find the original post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10263805&postcount=88
EDIT: I have opened a new poll with multiple choice voting and with more options. Please visit this thread to get a better idea of where the good and bad screens are coming from etc.

Please vote in this poll and tell which display you have and what color you have?

It is very easy just hold down on the home screen and select widget then select clock, right arrow over to the HTC clock as shown in the picture. Then just tilt the device to different angles you can set the brightness to auto or up a little if you want. If you see it clear like in the bottom pictures it is one of the better displays.
Since you are buying a new device demand you want one with a good display. If they give you any trouble send them to the Official MT4G forum their is a thread on there too.
I never really checked until now. Mine looks good at the same angle as the second set of pics, which makes me glad.
However, I will admit my colors are kinda warm. I wish my whites were brighter.
Wow there is more good black ones than I thought. Btw did your black ones come with 2.2.1 from factory?
Had the inferior black, dropped it and shattered it about 7 days in.. was devastated but had insurance.
Filed claim, received the superior black... not happy about shelling out $130.00 for a replacement but very pleased it's a better phone.
To be honest I still have no idea which one of those I have. My colors look very vibrant when I look at it directly. When I tilt it a lot then the colors are washed out a bit but who is holding the phone like that? My laptop screen has the same problem.
Well this is not true if you have the device on your desk in front of you you are looking at an angle and the colors are washed out. Plus the overall contrast of whites and blacks on the good display are better.
To some people it will not mater, but to some it will.

sounds like you have the good one. the bad ones color is washed out period. and they fade out at even the slightest angle. The good one does fade out, but only at extreme angles.

Ignorance is bliss. If it is so difficult to find out for us if we have the good or the bad one it is probably anyway not significant or we have anyway the good screens
It is very easy just compare yours to the pics on the bottom picture in the OP and if your device when tilted the launcher bar stays black and your clock digits are black and not washed out in the middle and top and bottom then you have a good one. Congratulations

Good screen (at least to me looks better than my Nexus One) and comparing with the attached pics it does not washout at all, shipped with 2.2. Upgraded to 2.2.1 after a few hours of receiving. Currently running Iced Glacier but screen looks same stock.
i have found these threads interesting....by all the standards that I can find - I've got the sharper/better display. I sort of have a hard time with the whole HTC clock widget 'test' or whatever but my viewing angles are good, my blacks are deep, my settings bar is DEFINITELY solid gray from all angles .. no perrywinkle here. i have zero complaints about my display ... i had wondered why everyone was **bleep** on here about it ..
but the interesting thing (compared to what the 'common knowledge' seems to be on these threads both here and at the Tmobile forum) is that I bought my phone on 11/5 .. the day after it came out, came with 2.2 and was made in Taiwan.
so either the gray/perrywinkle deal isn't 100% fool proof and my own eyes and judgement are off OR some of the older/original phones made in Taiwan have the 'better' display ..
FYI - i bought mine at a retail T mobile store at my local mall.

Seems to be differen't screens that HTC is sourcing from. The phone's all have identical roms, so that's not it.
This isn't the first time HTC or any cell phone or CEM has sources parts from differen't OEM's. But rarily is there such a disparity in them.

I know this issue from the Nexus One. They had these issues with purple screens between older and new batches of N1s and there was a clear difference between the t-mobile N1s and the ATT N1 regarding the purple screen. I think the screens are maybe from the same manufacturer but they have a range of tolerance what is junk and what is accepted as "normal" screen. This is maybe the reason why we cannot pinpoint it to one country, supplier or batch.

[Q] Would You Replace It?

Well, I finally received my Transformer 32GB today from Newegg and I must say that I am absolutely in love with it; despite some minor issues. Don't worry, I plan on doing a "first impressions" review shortly.
Anyways, I did notice some light bleed when looking for it and now I can't really seem to get over it. However, I tend to be a bit paranoid about things so I figured I would ask you guys for some advice before just asking for a replacement.
I took these pictures at full brightness in a completely dark room. For some reason, the camera seemed to have reduced the severity of the light bleed a bit (thought it would do the opposite). Basically, one can see light leakage on the bottom (to the right of the logo) and a couple on the middle of the right of the display.
Full brightness:

Would you guys get this replaced if you were me? My main concern is that the replacement yields even more leakage than the original.
PS - The bezel and screen seem to be perfectly aligned. I also have very little creaking near the right bezel.
I have some light bleed too, but only a little in the lower left corner. If mine were as bad as yours, I would replace. Yours is affecting 25% of your screen or more...
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Man, I am having the same problem. Every day I have the dilemma " should I replace it? - but I love it so much and what if the next one is crap"
Lol, tough call.
If you bought it from a good retailer (one that doesn't charge a restocking fee, I say go for the swap, since light bleeds are a sign of a defect)
Unfortunately for me, my retailer was crappy and charges 15% to restock, which means 75$ just to replace the device. Thumbs way down
Mine has bleeding on the left and right side of the screen, but I really only see it when I'm rebooting and the black screen comes on. I have not ran into any issues while using the tablet where I notice the bleeding so I don't really think its that big of a deal unless your watching a dark movie maybe.
Honestly dude, just listen to your common sense. Disregard what I or anybody else on these forums may say to you. The majority of people here lack sense which leads them to constantly complain about minor issues.
Think to yourself first would you have notices this without the help of this forum?
Does the issue harm the performance of the device?
Does it take away from the devices beauty?
Will any of your friends or family notice?
These among other questions are what you should ponder before making a decision...
I can tell you from my experience as being one of the first people to own a Tmobile G1, Mytouch and Sprint Evo 4g as well as an owner of many other devices including laptops, tvs, cars, radios, video game systems, video games, etc etc etc... You can return and exchange all you want but you will never find the PERFECT(Definition:Make (something) completely free from faults or defects) device or product...
Good Luck with your decision!
Wow... thanks for all your comments. I was expecting some "C'mon... another one of these?!" threads.
@gadgetfan: For some reason the blushing on the bottom right and left corners are not visible at all. I think it was some crazy processing that my camera did. Maybe due to the white text on those areas and the angle the pictures were taken. I only really notice the 1"-long bleeds on the bottom and right of the screen.
I ordered mine from Newegg so I know I'm good on getting it replaced. The problem is when will it actually get replaced? And if it does get replaced, will it be worst then the current one?
I was thinking of maybe waiting for it to get back in stock and try to snatch another one and seeing how that one is in comparison, then returning the worst of the two. Do you think these retailers would actually notice which is which inside the box?!

Isn't there a serial number on the box and on the unit. They should match.
The box isn't an issue as I can send the new box with the older unit in it. I highly doubt they'll be matching serial numbers as they usually send these off to the manufacturer to get refurbished anyways. If they ask, I can always tell them I accidentally swapped them by mistake. Right?!
sadly i have many stuck pixels but thanks for the fixel density they are only seen on a black screen, but BLACK, so i dont care i can live with that, or well sell it over here when they start to sell them here

Stuck/dead pixels drive me crazy. Once I see them it's as if I ALWAYS notice them. I replaced my 21.5 inch monitor and my G-Tablet because of one stuck pixel. I figure if I can get a free replacement then I'm going to replace it until I get a "perfect' one.
To the OP, the light bleed looks pretty bad. Personally I'd try to to replace it.

I wouldn't think twice about replacing it if I found a single stuck pixel on anything I own. Bleeds are hit or miss as some are way less noticeable than others.
Can anyone here honestly say that their TF is completely free of any light bleeds? If so, can they prove it?
Not to hijack the thread but this seems related:
I just picked up a 32gig model last night from a local retailer and there's a small (1mm-ish) gap between the bezel and the screen right where the hdmi port is.
There's a little light bleed in that area, which honestly doesn't bother me, but I am worried about dust getting in that gap.
Worthy of a return or am I worrying too much?
I would return it if mine had any gap whatsoever.
BTW, I just ordered one from WalMart and I'll compare it to the one I already have. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
The creak on the bottom right drives me nuts. The rear of the unit actually flexes around that area. Just doesn't feel very good. I also have issues with the touch screen not responding. I was going to make a topic on it, hoping it was just mine, but I guess it's just a transformer thing and I should either deal with it or return it and find something else.
In all my years of being a computer/gadget geek, I just haven't been able to wrap my head around the huge issue people have with light bleed. Just how many people sit in pure darkness everyday just to watch movies? I wish I had enough time to do this just so I could be mad at having light bleed. If the movies filled up the entire screen (some don't) then it should barely be an issue. The only time it's really noticeable is full brightness on a solid black picture.
What does it look like on a non-completely black screen?

Thanks for the input. I just wanted another opinion to make sure I wasn't being overly paranoid.
They're sold out again but I'm on the list for an exchange once they get more.
From my experience, I've seen 3 tablets, there is bad light bleed and tolerable light bleed. Soft light bleed is very tolerable and looks like a dull half circle of light, however, I've seen light bleed where it is a sharp bright light which looks like a triangle and completely bugged the hell out of me.
I would definitely return a creaky bezel. My 1st one had it and that is where the worst light bleed was. Pressing that point made the light bleed change. My other 2 had no creaking.
Just a suggestion, watch a dark movie, such as "The Dark Knight" and see if the light bleed bothers you. If not, keep it, otherwise exchange it. I believe movies are where it will be the most bothersome.

Very Disappointing Display Quality (in relation to Incredible S)

Hi,
I just got a Sensation because I wanted to change from my Incredible S. But now I´m not sure that I really want this Sensation. Please have a look at the photos.

Here one can see poor contrast and angle of view stability. That´s what I noticed at once after turning on the new Sensation.
For me the colours of the Incredible S display seem to be noticeable more brilliant.
Last but not least there is a raster of pixel, that disturbs viewing pictures but also normal working with the device.
One more thing: Scrolling e.g. in this forum, the light cappuchino colored background flickers slightly. But only when scrolling. Doing this parallel with the Incredible, the colour absolutely stays the same (as it should).
I wonder how can HTC´s new flagship provide such annoying issues with the most important part, with the display? Am I the only one who is disappointed that much?
Greetings and thanks for your factual comments.
Peter
HTC usually have inconsistent display quality on their phones, even for same model. You either get good batch or bad batch. Worse case I've seen is Nexus One, AMOLED vs S-LCD lol. But seriously, I've done like 10-20 RMA with Tmobile and HTC in past year, I've seen myTouch 4G, Desire HD, and Sensation have good and bad displays, like I said, depends which batch you got it from. I'm on 3rd Sensation, the display on first two was great, color was great, but first one has misaligned SIM card slot, second one got dust under the screen. Third one, display contrast is washed out, and I have it lay next to my gf's myTouch 4G which was hand picked from good batch, made mine look like crap. Also bad display usually comes with bad pixels. Mine just came with two stuck pixels.
Looks like you got the Acer Panel . Try switching the Sensation out for one with
the Sharp Panel . HUGE difference in quality and appearance .
As I was stating earlier...
The sensations SLCD Screen is inferior to the previous generation of phones screens.
I just don't understand why people do this,as if you look at your phone that way, hell it's not a tv,look at it head on

Exactly. I've never felt the need to look at my phone on an angle like that. Also, I don't understand why contrast is so damn important on a mobile device. Like you said, its not a HD TV in you home cinema or anything. In my opinion, text clarity and direct sunlight performance is much more important on a mobile display and in those two categories, the Sensation beats the Incredible S like a red headed step child.

I'm absolutely amazed with my Sensation's screen. It looks so much better than my MT4G's good display, which was already miles ahead of my G2. I'm not even going to get into how much sharper and more accurate with color it is compared to SAMOLED...
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
It's a good screen and the large resolution/aspect ratio is pretty nice, but there are some drawbacks. The screen flicker has to be the most annoying one and I've found the problem to exist on the AUO panel and the Sharp panel (not as bad as AUO, though).

So you are sitting totally alone at home with your Sensation? I´m sorry for that. Because sometimes it happens that another person wants to see a photo or sth on the screen, and perhaps you can imagine that the viewing angle is not perfekt 90° (even if you like that person very much to be close at her
To be serious, I just don´t accept the display of HTC´s new expensive flagship to be that crappy in relation to the cheaper Incredible S or any compareable device.
It´s not the kind of high-quality I expected. That´s it.
Anyway, thank you for the hint with the different display-suppliers!
Even if that makes it not better for me... :-(

As you mention text clarity: The screen flickers enormously with scrolling, so if you enter the option menu with white capitals on black background the font is just not readable while scrolling slowly down. A friend of mine has a _very_ cheap smartphone with same effect.
that weird scrolling effect knocked me back when I first saw it. Thought it was just a rom issue. I have had HTC's since the canary and never been bothered by the screen, this one is crap for scrolling tho. That said, it does ok for video's...
screen quality
i 100% agree, i have a desire amoled at the moment and decided to take the plunge and get a sensation. i have used it for about an hour and it's going back in the box. the screen is terrible in my opinion, mind you the rest of the phone just is not worth the name sensation, because it just isn't sensational. my friend has an incredible s and the screen is alot better to look at than the sensation.it's alot richer in colours and clearer and the blacks are better, the phone seems to respond alot quicker in daily use and nicer to use. i showed a few of my mates who also have htc's and they were not impressed with it at all. so not just my opinion. think incredible s will be my next choice...
The fact is the Sensation doesn't have an Amoled screen (like SGS2 has), but a SLCD. As a result, colors are a lot less vivid, black is less deep, contrast is less important, and it does look like the result is dull. Ho, and because of that, it behaves a bit worse under sunlight.
But in fact, the SLCD screen is far more accurate in rendering real colors : what you see is more or less what you would get on your computer screen (provided you didn't push contrast and saturation all the way up on you computer screen).
So in the end, it all comes down to this : do you want a bright screen with a bit of a toonesque feeling, or are you happy with a more realistic, yet duller, rendering ? As for me, I'm perfectly happy with my screen.
the op is comparing the screen from sensation against that of incredible s.
incredible s has also slcd. It is not a battle between OLED and SLCD.
Even for OLED, I believe quite some people will rush for htc OLED version sensation if there is for all OLED benefit. At least I will.
Honestly I haven't heard a person who stated the reason he bought sensation was because the screen is SLCD.
The below thread has more information regarding screen quality issue of
sensation.

I have very negative experience with this phone together and service from telenor Denmark. considering the next phone must be non-htc.

Sorry to hear that. You must have the AUO panel because my Sharp panel does not do this. I have heard of people with the AUO panel encountering this.

Ok I think you are right with that. But it doesn´t make it better for me and is evil behaviour from HTC to bother their customer with this variation of quality.
It is like you buy an new Audi and got an old MPI engine with less power and more fuel consumption instead of modern FSI. But Audi won´t tell you and demands the same money from you. What would you think?
I hope many many people will return their Sensation. It´s the only way to tell HTC "I don´t want to be cheated by what you call your flagship!"
Let´s see what happens

I'm not going to return it because I like the performance with mine. I read mostly on my phone and its the clearest I've ever seen text. I do however agree with you that HTC is lacking in quality lately. They should have stuck with the same display rather than using two different ones. I can tell you that as soon as I see a GSII stateside I will be buying it. Everyone always complains about Samsungs quality but my Vibrant and Nexus S have withstood some serious damage. They have both gotten wet from multiple fires and have been dropped at work numerous times. The displays in them are still in mint condition and the plastic they use to build them has never broke. Sooner or later people will understand the reason why Samsung uses plastic is because it makes a mobile device that goes in your pocket lighter and also is least resistive to a cellular signal and wifi signal. Just because there light, doesn't mean there cheap. Their actually solid unlike the Sensation which multiple people have reported volume buttons falling off and creaky battery covers. Samsung has also been great lately with updates and optimizing their drivers. They have devoloped the most powerful mobile processors for the past two years and also have the best on board memory found on mobile phones. Samsung is becoming the HTC of 2009 and HTC is becoming the Samsung of 2009.

I had an incredible 2 and my sensation display is clearly better, but I also have a sharp display.
The screen blew me away when I first watch netflix movies on it.
das sensation ist kein sgs ll ABER der screen ist gut . habe mein htc 2 tage und finde es super !

question about display

Hey guys, I have a question about our skyrockets displays. When I look straight at mine, it's kid yellow. But when I slightly tilt it at any angle it becomes whiter bluer. It's like going from warm colors straight to cold.
Is this normal on a super amoled plus? Never had one before and I'm coming from the ips display on an iPhone.
It doesn't bother me, but I'm just curious.
Mine does the same thing. At least in this app. I don't recall if I have ever looked at this phone or an iPhone before from that acute angle. I try to notice.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
its the way the phone is. It doesn't have a true white display due to Amoled screen. Do a search and you will know more of other people complain about this.
Huh. I hadn't noticed this until just now. It's not intolerable but yes, seems to be true.
However, no one does true black like Samsung, and the positive aspects of the screen far outweigh this as well as the lines you see when not in full bright mode (I usually keep mine on full brightness anyways).

Nexus 5 General Display screen

Im hearing that the display is badly calibrated washed out like the nexus 4. Nexus 4 had a good screen if it was calibrated properply..
So same again? Discuss

There seem to be mixed reports so far, I've spotted a couple of users on here who say they think it's slightly washed out - but it's hard to assign too much credibility to them as many are simply saying that because they're used to amoled and perhaps don't realise how inaccurate those colours really are.
There seem to be some online hands ons that suggest it's as good as the one on the lg g2 - I hope that's true. Since it's an IPS screen what I would really like would be for someone to do a comparison against an iPhone 5/5s, since Apple take calibration very seriously on both their phones and MacBooks.

Yes, the verge has an article called "Nexus 5 v LG G2: See the Difference":
http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/1/5054944/nexus-5-vs-lg-g2-in-pictures
A google search using the terms 'first impressions' or 'hands on' should find you a couple of others. The nexus 4 was, well, not calibrated at all and was very murky and washed out. So I'm certain it's at least superior to that. Personally I would wait (if you can) until anandtech's review as they always discuss and take seriously the calibrations of any phones they review.
Yep, Apple are the dogs b******* when it comes to calibration. I used to have a lumia 925 which nokia are smart enough to include with a white balance and saturation calibration tool. Using that in conjunction with my macbook screen and the same photo I was able to perfectly calibrate it. Got rid of the Nokia for other reasons but they should serve as a lesson to others manufacturers that it's really not that hard to include something simple like that so pro users can get the bang for their buck.
I said it looked slightly washed out to me but I was used to the LED screen. I'm getting more used to it now though, it looks really great but I still would like the colours to be a little bit more vibrant.

I don't know I mean those wallpapers are positioned differently so it's hard to conclusively tell. In any case it might be that the g2 is too saturated. For me the benchmark will be any iPhone from the 4s onwards, or perhaps the htc one.
Again, if anyone on here has an old 4s/5 in the house I'd be extremely grateful if you could give your impressions after you receive your n5. Just go to google and find a stock picture of something, put it on both phones and max brightness and compare the two......me love you long time!

Yeah the walpapers are positioned differently, but look at the intensity of the orange and red, it does look like the G2 has a more saturated screen, ive used the phone (G2) and the screen does look amazing , a little over saturated maybe but i find it perfect, i mean it's no galaxy s 4 ULTRAsaturated like...
Are people here mistaken a more true color representation as washed out compared to screens that are over saturated? I know it is hard to tell in a picture but the G2 colors look over saturated to me next to the N5.
It is like a TV calibration. You have people that like their colors to pop and have all the auto settings on which over saturates everything which looks freakin terrible but they love it. Then when you throw the TV in movie mode and turn off all those auto settings at first you might think everything looks washed out but then you realize how much true to life and real the picture looks and once you get used to that, throwing all those over saturating settings back on will just make you say yuck.

Yeah you'd be surprised/shocked how many people don't realise how ludicrous the colours on their AMOLED devices are. Problem is of course like a bee to a flower, we're hard coded to be attracted to these punchy colours.
On the Galaxy s4, even the display mode that's called 'STANDARD' is way WAY over-saturated. Most professional calibration websites that have looked at it say that 'MOVIE MODE' is the one that comes closest to correct (but again, is still slightly over saturated

Yeah it's good they put the option in, as I said before I would have preferred that samsung do what nokia now does and provide proper dual sliders for colour saturation and white balance - that way it can be set to as close to the perfect/rgb specification as possible. Kudos to samsung for the profiles though. If anyone still has an S4 'Movie mode' is definitely the most accurate.
I have an unfortunate yellow jumper that someone snapped me with using my S4 and in 'standard' mode I'm glowing like I just came back from a two week holiday in Chernobyl.

If you mean the top centre bezel area that's not the led light that's just the light in the room oddly illuminating the round earpiece.
The led light is located in the bottom bezel.
UPDATE: Oh right ok, didn't realise that earpiece is that colour with the white version! How bizarre...glad I ordered black.
Bought white version believing my front would be completely black. That white earpeace killed it. I enjoy watching videos with a fully black front so it feels like a TV.
