I tried to research this everywhere in the forum but was unable to find anything. So, I apologize if this has already been covered. Additionally, I've tried to research this across the rest of the internet, but I have a few questions:
1.) I really don't care for the way the current touchwiz version looks on the Charge, but I really like touchwiz 4.0, which is running on the Samsung GS2. Does anyone know if the Charge will get touchwiz 4.0?
2.) If it's not going to get touchwiz 4.0, and it doesn't look like I should get this phone if I want Cyanogenmod, but I would be happy with a rom that took it down to stock android. I had an Incredible (before I broke it) that was running Cyanogenmod and loved it. What are the chances of getting a pretty stock version of android running on the Charge?
3.) For those with a Charge running Launcher Pro, how has the battery life been?
Thanks for all the help and sorry if I missed something in the other threads.
We probably will get cm. Recently galaxy phones became supported and the charge really is a galaxy phone just called a Droid.

Development is very slow on the fascinate side. The problem is Samsung code. Also, the new ril is a hack job from my understanding so cm is a ways away.
Getting touchwiz 4.0 is just a matter of porting and I believe that's already done or in the works.

the GSM galaxy s phones have official cm...the fascinate/epic have fairly good unofficial versions...however none of these phones are dealing with lte ril...also they all have a lot more people working on cm for it
so basically cm is a longshot, at best
1. I think that TW4 is coming with Gingerbread, or that is when it may show up. If it doesn't come with the GB update that I'm going to assume we're getting, it can likely be ported over much easier then.
2. We may get AOSP/CM at some point, but it could be a while. I do think that as time passes and more people get the phone, and I and others have more time to work on it, we will get a pretty good debloated ROM that is about as stripped down as possible.
3. I don't think most launchers will affect battery life so much as what you have up as widgets on the launcher. If you have TW up without widgets that require data, you'll probably use less battery than LPP or ADW setup with widgets that require background data. The nice thing about using LPP or ADW compared to TW is that they use a less resources usually, and tend to be more configurable.
So I have tried every launcher out there and every single one has lag on this dual core phone with 1g of ram. Any more than three widgets on the stock TW Launcher with three, five or seven screens lags. Same on Launcher Pro, SS Launcher, Go Launcher, ADW EX, Regina 3D, MX Home, Nemus, Hi Launcher, and all the rest. The only launcher that doesn't lag for me is SPB Shell, but it has no lock for the desktop and the widgets tend to want to move when swiping the screens.
How is it that a dual core phone with 1g of ram lags? I have a feeling it is the OS.
There are a lot of variables missing from this question. However, it should be noted that launchers get faster as you use them. If your impressions are based off of the first few minutes of use with each one, then go back and give them some time. Fixing permissions in rom manager can help sometimes as well, as can re-flashing or picking a new rom.

Okay, so I am on stock rom stock kernel rooted. I have spent a good amount of time with the TW Launcher, Go Launcher, Zeam, and Launcher Pro. Not a single one has ever gotten smoother with time. This is my sixth android in the last four years. It has always been like this as I have never had a launcher on any device that was as smooth as butter. I was finally thinking that a dual core with 1g of ram would probably handle this but alas no, still lag. What is it going to take for the Android OS to be smooth? Every time I upgrade I think this time it will be better. I would hope the new quad cores will finally be lag free, but of course Google will be updating to Jellybean by the end of the year and most likely will bring back the lag to even quad cores. One has to wonder why Google is constantly making the OS more and more CPU and GPU hungry instead of optimizing what we have and getting the current iteration perfect. It get's really old constantly beta testing devices that are 5 to 6 hundred dollars. Maybe it wouldn't be such a problem if Google had some form of customer service that actually worked. But as it stands a forum (Google Help forum) filled with unanswered questions and concerns is no help at all.
I'm not experiencing any lag... just like many, many other users, who have their "butter smooth experience".
Being logic about it, considering it doesn't happen to every Skyrocket user, but it does happen to you no matter which phone are you in, with all due respect, I would assume it's not about the system itself.
Hope you don't take it the wrong way, but I'd check my applications and settings, instead of blaming another party.

I don't know how you're having this problem. Mine is super smooth and responsive even on go launcher which is reported the slowest among the community. I guess you have too many widgets

Go launcher is supposed to be the slowest? It's buttery smooth on mine. Which one would be the fastest?
To the OP, maybe as stated above, you have too many widgets. Could you provide a screenshot or simply a list of widgets/apps to show us what your working with?
The fastest launcher would be regular adw(not ex) or launcher pro. They have the least bloat of them all. Some of the asian launchers like 360 or espier are very fast as well.

Yeah, go launcher is one of the bigger and slower launchers. The more animations, customization, and file size will make them slower. But Go launcher is smooth for me. But like tom said, adw and launcher pro are lighter weight, less footprint and therefore faster
Apex launcher works great. The problem is he is stock. And stock kernel.
Ditch stock you silly sally.
Use a custom rom .
Nova launcher if you're in ICS, working good here even when I have underclocked to 1.02 Ghz

I think the best ICS launcher is "Nova". But, you have to have root to use it.
Just take Silvers advice and flash a new kernel. I have the same problem when I'm stock on stock. Currently I'm stock rooted ICS touchwiz with Romracers kernel, fully bloated, no apps on sd, and I have zero lag. I you do a lot of flashing get in the habit of wiping everything.

I tried that rom and saw that the wallpaper chooser was broken as it did not add scrolling wallpapers. Also have tried that kernel and it did not notice any difference in stock roms behavior. Not to discredit anything those devs have done.

we all understand that this phone as you have it does not work for you, but frankly i dont think anyone here cares and wants to listen to you complain about it and i dont know what you were expecting to get out of a thread that consists entirely of you complaining about something. maybe before you buy your next phone you should try testing it out in the store to see if it lives up to your standards. for me this phone is lag free on mhx superlite v4.2 with romracers kernel UCALC4 modem. if you really want a faster bug free experience try seanzscreams skyics 7.4 with fauxs kernel i used it for about 2 months before and only had to pull the battery once. just to be fair about android it is impossible for google to get it right because in the nature of open source Google can not force the OEMs to optimize it fully and they usually dont because it is money that they could be spending on releasing more phones. also the rom and kernel make a HUGE difference. i just put aokp 4.0.4 on my friends verizon fascinate which was on gingerbread and before it lagged in everything and constantly froze up but now it is at least as fast as the skyrocket on stock. that is why many people go for androids because if they dont like something or want to change or improve the user experience they can do it very easily but everything is not guaranteed to work perfectly. since everything working perfectly is one of your factors i would highly suggest looking at either iOS or at WP7 or if you decide to stay with android (which has undoubtedly gotten less laggy over the years and will continue to improve) look at the phone in the store to see if it is fast enough on stock. i have heard the HTC One series is very fast
I've been using the GS3 since it came out and have had this weird back and forth opinion of TouchWiz and AOSP. I was just wanting to get the opinion of the rest of the community to see if anyone feels the same way I do. Opinion Below:
For some strange reason, I feel better using the Galaxy S III with the TouchWiz UX interface. I used it for a number of months with CM10, but when I was using that interface, I didn't feel like I was using a my Samsung Phone. Even though I had a Galaxy Nexus and loved my time with it (before i dropped it in the river...), the same interface on this particular phone just didn't feel "right". Like I was emulating a completely different version of android. But the moment I loaded CleanRom 5.5.1, all the feeling of the GS3 came back. I can't really explain it, but it just feels good. the software goes to well with the screen size, the way I hold the phone, and (sorry, but) I now love S Voice more than Google's Voice Commands. i can set timers, text people, set events for work and S Voice locks onto my voice so much quicker than when it's older versions.
Again, this is just my opinion, but I would love to hear your reasons for picking one over the other, what killer thing you can't live without, or even why you don't care. I'm down for any conversation.
me too. i tried all the aosp roms and miui. and always find myself going back to stock touchwiz. which is funny. i remember before i bought the phone all i heard was "the only bad thing is it has touchwiz UI" and " touchwiz sucks" and i absolutely love it.
i prefer AOSP
TW but using Nova Launcher and Google Now instead of S Voice.

Basically CM/AOSP/AOKP is the Nexus with better hardware. If you want the same thing but faster that is where you go. If want all the bells and whistles you go TW. It is what you looking for. I stick with TW where all works and run all the 4.1.1/4.1.2/4.2/4.2.1 apps that we can port. I want everything on my $600 device to work . That includes every option that came on the phone. To me breaking the phone to go fast is not an option. Newer options are worthless if all you can do is call if you are lucky. I could call with a brick in the 70's.

I didn't really think of it in those terms, but that's pretty much dead on. with CM10, i did a lot more CPU management, tweaking, and seeing what little things i could change to make the phone break the laws of physics (didn't do it). And with TouchWiz. I kinda just sit back and use my phone as a phone. call, text, watch youtube. I still like to keep my titanium backups synced to dropbox, but not much more.
Random, but every time I load a new ROM that I've never used before, the first thing I do is call one of my parents. Always need to make sure I can send a phone call.
I don't mind touchwiz all that much. Couldn't stand sense or moto blur but tw the isn't all that bad. Throw on apex the launcher and I'm good to go.

Man I'm probably old enough to be your daddy. I been playing and testing for some of the best in the business for a while. If it broke it is not cutting edge. Making broke go faster makes no sense to me. You should be able to make what works go faster and still work. Being on the cutting edge of broke is for the devs not for the masses. Once stable go for it. But if your wife, girlfriend or parents can't get hold of you cause your on cutting edge of broke you have a problem.

I agree completely about you being old.
Between the Data not working on CM10.1 for the first week or so, and little errors that come with devs trying to port other phones' features into their ROM's, I was prompted to go back to CleanROM and just take a breath from all the flashing and rebooting. I'll be looking for that 4.1.2 update. but I'll stay away from the real crazy stuff.

I'm currently on Beans stock deodex with Ziggy's latest kernel @1.72/384. Kinda craps mods and Moto's International VRTheme. All Gapps 4.1-4.2 inverted. Rock stable and running 6500 Quads. Everything works including call recording.
I've been flashing for awhile.
At this point (actually - Nov 1st) I've been CleanROM only. Everything "works" + mixed with WasabiWa's themes - I'm a happy man.
This is the tamest my crack flashing has ever been. It's almost scary. TW JB is pretty nice...

I can't imagine AOSP being much faster than TW with the necessary apps frozen. On my old phones AOSP was definitely the way to go, but the S3 is so powerful anyways, and TW isn't very heavy anymore.
And, in all honesty, the TW Camera app alone is worth it for me to stay on TW. All the non-TW camera apps pale in comparison, both in quality and options.

I honestly can't stand TW. I have it on my wife's phone because she likes the camera better than the AOSP. But it just seems like TW just tried to be too pretty and to me it didn't make me happy. Even though AOSP has its little bugs, I just like it better. There are no widgets that I'm OMG about really like I was with Sense, for instance their music player, calendar, clock, and Facebook for HTC sense app... of course I prefer sense 3.5 style widgets a little more than 4. So I just stick with MIUI because that was the AOSP that made me fall in love with AOSP. Used to have the Dinc and Dinc2 and it ran flawlessly on both. Just pure love.

This.
I loaded up AOKP and tried that out for awhile. It was lightning fast on pretty much everything, but I just didn't feel like I was using my GS3 that I had fallen in love with. I'm on the stock JB OTA with Kindacrap Mods 2.6 flashed. The small tweaks in there make the phone for me. Everything's a little bit faster and once I found out that I could make the home button faster (my biggest complaint since owning the phone) simply by disabling the S-Voice polling, just more love to be had.
Being able to set separate lock screen and homescreen wallpapers that don't move (used to love the movement, but not so much anymore) is great. S-Beam is awesome. The premium suite will (hopefully) be a wonderful tweak. Samsung and TouchWiz have come a long way since my first Android phone: the Captivate on AT&T.
To me it is not about speed at this point but stability. Top end devices today do not need to go any faster then when you take it out of the box. I still scratch my head when I see people over clocking their S3. This thing already runs faster then some laptops that people own. Also, can't prove anything is faster when overclocking except running a benchmark. Otherwise they all feel the same!
I love the AOSP experience and options but it still has bugs that are important to me on the S3 so I am forced to use TW. Luckily TW is not that bad on the S3 and works well. If an AOSP Rom was bug free I surely would be running it. And don't believe the hype when people tell you AOSP has no bugs. It can run stable but has bugs that prevent me from using it as a daily.
Running Pure's TW Rom right now it works great. Already has part of multi-window cooked in with the bar on the left and all your apps showing. Hopefully next release will actually have the multi window. He also said that he has the ink effect on the lockscreen for the next rls as well. He is always pushing the bar with new features so I am pretty content right now with TW.
CM10.1 kangs have been nothing but stable for me since I got my S3 a few weeks ago. I like the whole interface and experience; hated TW. Call me lucky but I'm 100% satisfied.
I've gone back and forth between AOSP and TW-based ROMS. Besides stability, I do enjoy the extra features that are on the stock framework.
I'm just curious to see how developers will utilize the source code into their ROMS, now that it's out.
I like AOSP if it works. I would easily be on cm10.1 if everything worked, but until then, I think I have to use my phone as a phone

Same here. I ran AOSP on my OG Epic and while I liked it for what our offered, constant struggles with features broken/ not working made me steer clear of it on GS3 until ALL phone functions work as well as they do on TW.
Hey guys so i have done some research about each one and what they are and still have a few questions so ill just number them and ask away.
1. AOSP roms essential give you more settings and stock google released features? I was watching a video that talked about a aosp giving phones that little side bar menu and im thinking why do i need to get a AOSP rom when i already have that feature. Are there some AOSP roms that give more features that are no accessible to the public yet.
2. AOKP roms are roms that do something like nova launcher? Kinda give us more personal/display customization? One thing i hate about nova launcher is its kinda seems like a dual boot to me. When you press home key you have the option to go to touchwiz or nova launcher. I know you can set it to go to nova launcher everytime but i kinda hate that. So do AOKP roms eliminate that factor?
3. What is a touchwiz rom? Pretty lost.
4.I guess this is more of what im looking for in roming my phone. For battery life of course i want as much as i can, do both AOSP roms and AOKP roms provide longer battery life depending on the rom? Also i want a rom that allows me to customize or comes with home screen and lock screen of my likeing. Heres images of what i want my lock screen to possibly look like. >>>>http://25.media.tumblr.com/7cbd86e3254e6267696940dda8248124/tumblr_mubqwzEuI91qlv1xlo1_1280.jpg
So here just focusing on the buttons and layout of where everything is. For sure on a stock galaxy this is impossible to do. The layout is just completely different. Addition to that i would like the black bar at the top that shows signal and etc to be gone so it has a cleaner look.
So finally, should i go AOSP, AOKP, touchwiz? Im also looking for more features too im open to that.
You need to do a lot of reading and research, what you're asking is way too detailed to answer in one post and you still wont get it.
Start with this, then repost and refine your question from what you still dont understand.

Like the person said you really need to do more research as AOKP is an AOSP rom. AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project and these roms are basically modified versions of the original Android OS. Touchwiz is a heavily modified version of Android installed in Samsung phones. So your question shoud have been AOSP Or Touchwiz.

that is outdated as there have been about 20 or so roms released since then. I will also add that there are only touchwiz specific themes and AOSP specific themes no universal themes.

Have a great day!
I had always wanted to use a nexus device since I had finally retired my Galaxy Nexus some time ago. I was tickled pink when I learned that I'd be able to use the Nexus 6 on Big Red.
I am fairly happy with the phone but its size is cumbersome (I do not wish to debate this its too big for me) I struggle doing every day things like the gym etc.
I am scarred to jump ship over here with lack of ROMs but I saw that root was just obtained and I used the phone briefly at Verizon today and it seemed incredibly snappy with all the sh.it they still had on there.
Just want to start this thread to help me brainstorm
Thanks for all that reply.
I too have the nexus and it is one of my favorite devices I have ever owned. I checked this thread out once I seen this device was rooted 2 days ago to see there isnt much going on here yet but hopefully it picks up. I love the nexus but sometimes the size gets to me as well (gym, etc...)
The idea of getting this device is still floating around.
I'm in the same boat as you guys only I don't workout.....

Well I found someone local that's willing to part with their s6 for 475 so I believe I'll pull the trigger and keep my nexus. I really liked the feel of the phone at the store.

That's not a bad price. What I am thinking about doing myself is to make best buy price match the full retail cost of the s6 which in verizon is 599. i have best buy gift cards that i havent used which will bring the price to 299 for me. I will not part ways with my nexus either.
I had a nexus 6 for a little while and man was that a huge phone and I also workout at the gym and what a pain in the ass I got a email from verizon to early upgrade edge to the s6 and I pulled the trigger perfect size and performs well I love this phone way more then the nexus 6 I love the samsung music player as well and some features.
P.S The phone is rooted and flashfire works for a recovery and roms are being tested and built as I type this im thinking by the weekend we will see some rom action.
I've had this phone for a few hours and it feels a little bit lighter than I thought it would but I have to say that I'm impressed. It is obviously much easier for me to use one handed and with root and disabling/ freezing all of the boat on here it's really really snappy. It feels great in hand.
I will keep the Nexus as a backup but the S6 will most certainly become my daily driver .
I do hope some ROMs come soon!
thanks for the info. I have been reading reviews all day on this phone and seeing how much touchwiz i can take off besides switching to nova launcher. Question for you....were you able to adjust to a 5.1 screen?
I most likely pick up the phone tomorrow or by the weekend the latest.

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression there wouldnt be roms without the bootloader unlocked. I am hoping there will be some aosp based roms. I prefer stock android.

While there could be Roms, they will ONLY be touchwiz Roms unless boot loader gets unlocked.

I prefer stock android as well but honestly the TouchWiz on here isn't too bad. I still don't prefer this over AOSP but it's much more tolerable than the TouchWiz of old.

i read in the theme section that someone made an aosp theme for touchwiz and is waiting to hear approval for it to be in the play store. once that gets released the phone could pretty much look like stock along with nova launcher and a different icon pack.

I was wondering how things are going with the s6. since you've had it for some time are you missing the nexus at all?
What is your set up like on the rooted s6?
Thanks
I too moved from the Nexus 6 to the S6. I moved for primarily one reason.. I loved the Nexus but it was just to big and cumbersome for me.. Obviously there is less Dev work for this phone, but once I found a good ROM with my nexus I rarely switched anyway. The camera on the S6 is faster and I would give it the edge, but not by much. Its the size of the S6 I love.. everyday use is SOO much easier for me, and that is what won out for me in the end.. I still miss the N6 sometimes and now with the M Dev preview out I miss being able to flash that and meas with the latest and greatest. I actually don't mind the colors of touchwiz besides, I use Nova Prime and the identical setup on all my devices. If I could have kept both that would have been great but that wasn't an option for me.

thanks for the info. i just had a birthday last week and received more gift cards to best buy that i am willing to use to get the s6. i still have the nexus and have yet to flash the m preview ( i just feel its a pain to always set the phone back up)
What rom are you running?
I am running clean ROM.. Its essentially stock with some debloat. Which is what did on my own but I like the idea of flashing it and starting without the bloat to begin with.
There is a rom that will support the vzw s6 over in the s6 thread called AxisM. Looks like there are many tweaks and mods. Ive heard great things about cleanrom as well.
