gtablet and google? why google wont fully support this device.

I kinda think now. that this device was over developed for an under developed os platform. think about it, this device has preemo hardware right yet googles apps are half a$$ working and some arent working at all. i think mabe google needs to step up their app development skills a lil then mabe all these new devices will play nice. its been said that apples apps are better quality... i hate apple lol im currently running a moto droid 1 over clocked to 1.2 on pete's bugless beast 2.2 froyo rom and let me add my phone works ten times faster then the galaxy tab this gtablet and the ipad?? how??? i havent a friggin clue. it dont make sense. android is awsome bottom line this device has potential will that potential be wasted?? i hope not for. what do u guys think.

The true answer to why Google will not support this is that Honeycomb is their OS for tablets. The hardware manufacturers could not wait to release this hardware (to try to get an edge on the competition).
Currently, Google will not support and will not allow Android Market to go onto a device that does not fit certain criteria.
One of these is that the device MUST have a cellular radio.
Since most of these tablets do not, Google cannot and will not allow Android Market on it at this time.

Google doesn't support wifi only devices yet. I think with android 2.3 we will see a change with that, and that is when we will get this device to shine. It will take time for the hackers to work everything out. It took weeks/months for pete to get his rom to where it is today, and as great as he is, he had a lot of help from the huge DROID community. The community for this gtab is small but growing, and will get better with time. What isn't working fo you? I am on CM6 and got most everything working for google apps except ones where the hardware is limited like GPS/Phone. I have video conf, email, contacts, calender, gtalk, angry birds, flash, overclocking, n lots more etc...

what are you using to overclock?
i cant get set cpu to work properly

i havent purchased it yet. but i want one so bad ive looked at a few of the cheaper tabs and this one looks like its got the best quality for its buck. the galaxy tab is over priced and seems to be less snappy, well from the videos ive seen of it in action. im not a 100% TECH SAVOY but ive rooted my droid and updated its build prop. in order to root this device u used the update.zip format or do i need adb shell to do it.

i dont use setcpu bc depending on some of the kernels you use in(in my case im using slayhers 1.2 ghz kernel) has and interactive governor built into the kernel.. and im using the compcache.zip . i use terminal emulator to execute the scripts to enable compache. go to peter alfono's main site and u will find all the detailed help you need. good luck man..

I'm using overclock widget, I saw it mentioned in another thread...some say it woks some don't, not sure if I notice a difference...I'm just trying to get this stable before I can even think about benchmarks.

I used Z4root and rooted my Gtablet with one click. I didn't need an update.zip or adb shell. So don't let the rooting hold you back because if someone like me (no programing or hacking expericence) can do it you surely can.

i didnt know z4root worked on the gtab i saw it used to root the galaxy tab.. thanks man i think im gonna give it a shot. ill post back if i get one for sure.

CyanogenMod7 Review (as I see it)

I have been using this build for quite a while now and decided to write a review of the ROM. Please keep in mind I am not a developer !!! I am simply writing this from a user standpoint and cannot nor will not support your problems. This is a review based on my opinions and usage of the ROM.
Pros:
I do like the UI. It is fairly stable and I haven't had much trouble out of it for the most part. The combination of ADW Launcher and the Cyanogen settings are great. The speed of the ROM is pretty good for a ported ROM based on GingerBread. I can't complain much about that. General things that I like are the advanced menus for customizing the dock and theme settings. The themed settings change icons for contacts, mail, messaging, phone, browser,calendar, and videos ( I may have missed some). The cyanogen settings cover an array of things that you can poke at but in my opinion should be included with stock builds as well. Overall if you were wanting to use this on a daily basis I think you would be ok to go ahead and install this ROM... NOTE: Don't hold me responsible if you brick your phone trying. It isn't one of the easiest roms I've
ever installed. The sleep policy has been fixed so that the phone doesn't reboot on unlock...which on my first flash hadn't been fixed and really really turned me off from this ROM.
Cons: I have yet to figure out why this is (again not a dev) but your microSD card will not mount when connected to the pc. I'm sure they are working on this but I haven't downloaded an update or nightly (which is current at the time of this post btw) that has fixed it. I do have some random picky things that I can't get an answer to, and good luck if you do...feel free to send them to me also. Some of my .mp3 ringtones will not work period. Different ones of even larger file size work... I'm not sure how that works out. Text messaging (native) doesn't work for incoming or outgoing... But I will say that I was having issues with that before so I can't blame that on this ROM. There are a few apps that won't work with this build easy uninstaller is one, I just get a fc. Battery is another issue that may be addressed with future releases. I don't run GPS (so don't ask if it's accurate) but keep wifi on all the time. I get probably about 8 hours with wifi on all the time. Not the best but definitely not the worst. You also cannot charge the phone while it is off... really not sure why, and the extended power menu doesn't work. And for the most part is an in depth install procedure... Back to stock with odin, flash two kernals, then a couple of files... Pretty lengthy and you have to be precise or else it bricks. Here it is if your interested... Other than that I have had virtually no problems (that I consider major) with this ROM and do like it and will probably continue to use it. If you have any general questions please feel free to ask. Again, again... I am not a dev so questions of that nature should be posted here: CyanogenMod7

I agree, it is definitely still a beta build and as noted by Cyanogen... hasn't been put into the stable build section of their forums. I do look forward to a stable build. Perhaps the Dev's can address some of the weird issues that I mentioned above.

i also was not able to send multi media mms never would go through i tried for 20 mins to receive and send ,
this rom is great but here is why it sucks, i watch the cyanogen nightlies for the galaxy s phones, and with the types of updates im seeing on the cappy versus lets say the vibrant , there is no ****ing hope and this rom is dead.
the last update fixed an install file wtf. so at this rate cyanogen will be rc in o id say next year. ill have a new phone by then. my money is on miui

Well you completely forgot to mention that, currently it cannot handle lots of video format, most importantly mkv and even if you find something like Rock Player, there's a lot of lag in it. You cannot charge the phone while its off (because it'll turn on as soon as you plug the charger in). Also, you might encounter a totally new problem which you may not have an idea about. If captivate is your spare phone then play with it else stay away for a while until a RC is released.
This is just my opinion from 3 days of experience on CM7.

It was a total flop for me :/
It ran well when I first installed it, but started running "funny" (random crashing) after I installed gapps, then totally started crapping out after the 3/16 update.
I ended up ditching it for a 2.2 rom, mostly because I didn't feel I was gaining anything substantive and losing things I regularly use, like a feature rich camera app and divx playback support.

Been running for 3 days. 0 problems.
I've ran into a few bugs. External SD, booting when usb plugged in. Only charging to 95% (apparently a feature not a bug). At one point my signal shot down to searching, then it recovered and grabbed a signal. Not sure what caused that, but it was random.
I also cannot get it to mount to my PC. Kind of annoying, but if I need to transfer anything I just use dropbox.
I like it, and I think I'll keep with it. Even though it isn't 100%, I love gingerbread, and it's working for me.

I did forget that you cannot charge the phone while off and now that you mention it the extended power menu doesn't work either. It is fairly aggravating that Cyanogen updates the vibrant with "real" fixes other than this fixing little things but... All in all, it is still usable, just not stable or reliable.

Every time I try and warn someone that CM7 is not yet ready for primetime I get bashed for it, yet there seem to be plenty of people echoing my comments. Like I said in another thread, the people that are saying CM7 is stable and works great are either not using their device to its full potential or are willing to live without certain features. There is really no compelling reason to live with a ROM that has this many bugs or deficiencies when you consider how many really good ROMs there are available for our Cappys that have few, if any, issues. Yeah, they may not have Gingerbready theming or cutesy animations, but they just work. Andromeda 1.2 is one that comes to mind.

I am on it from I think last friday...Not a single problem...atleast how i use it...of course except battery life...which I am trying to solve...
Rock player worked well for me...I watched couple of movies when I was on road....never lagged just stopped couple of times....
great GPS...instant locks...i am amazed...But I also tried MIUI...and it is very very fast...and something different which I never experienced before...I think people should give it a try...ofcourse it has bugs too as it based on CM7...but they fixed camera bug and little stuff.....

I am by no means saying that it is ready for the masses... The only one that I would suggest without a second thought to someone who isn't willing to deal with at least some problems is Cognition Series by DesignGears. To my knowledge (and opinion) this is the absolute best rom for the captivate. IF ... Cyanogen gets to the point of a Cognition rom in function and use, then I might suggest it for the masses but not until then.

Your right in regard to it not being ready for most users (many are already praising the miui 2.3.3 also which is even less stable.....not saying it isn't promising). I think it breaks into 2 camps.
1. If you are a power user that wants all aspects of your device to function as intended...not for you. More specifically, If you use an external SD especially if your moving files to and from mounted to a PC....this is not the rom for you (this is my biggest gripe at this point). If you do lots of video in different formats...not for you as you will face compatibility issues. If you have to ask how your flash back to stock....this is probably not for you. If you value battery life as a top priority...not yet for you. Most of the other deficiencies or shortcomings had adequate work arounds but you until the major issues are resolved you will quickly find yourself flashing back to Phoenix, Firefly, Serendipity, Andromeda, etc.)
2. If you don't use and external SD and/or do much media vid/music then i can see why many view this as "stable" for their purposes. The UI, menus, and animations are smooth/fast and i never really had any issues with force closes while using it. Maybe its better linguistically to say its incomplete rather than refer to is as unstable and sorry if it offends the early adopters but if you are using it as your daily driver its pretty obvious you are using an inferior rom @ this point.

i would easily put a handful of roms on par with cognition:
Firefly, Supernova, Phoenix, Serendipity, Andromeda.

Excellent post.

Glad to see users sharing their experience on CM7. This is always good foe the community. I hope to see new users to read this thread prior to making any decision whether to flash CM7 2.3.3 or not.
On another note, I'm sure once Samsung do final release of Gingerbread 2.3.3 for i9000 series (last I heard that an early beta was released), we cappyites will see stable release.

Regarding the phone turning on when charging, I believe it's a gingerbread "feature". It's been said that it is working as intended. Also, the iphone does the same thing so I don't really see it as an issue. It's probably google seeing behavior they like and implementing it.

You can not mount the external sd but you can transfer to your internal then on the phone transfer to external, so I am not certain it Is fair to say you can not use your external sd. Video is an issue, and battery is as well.
At this point in time it is a trade off, there are several things cm7 can't do well or can not do at all. there are also several things it does much better than any 2.2 rom or are not available on 2.2 roms.
Its all preference and priorities. Kinda like any best rom discussion.

Largely it its because you have never used it, and have only tried one rom. That and you are compelled to jump on any thread that mentions it as if it is a personal mission. It its not as if you do not make some valid points, but it is not hard to see why it may rub some the wrong way after a while.
This is not an attempt to start something, but your comments make it seem like there is no warrant to people who go back at you.

Agreed... I was not trying to start a thread to bash any rom. However I do know that there are some hard feelings that are out based on certain features that work or don't and peoples impressions about the ROM itself. I also know that there is quite a bit of loyalty to certain ROM creators that no matter what they aren't going to be going to a new ROM simply because they are loyal to that dev... which is fine! I simply wanted to create an avenue for people who have used the ROM to pass along information and opinions on the ROM to people who are thinking about switching to it. People are entitled to their opinions and I am all for that... Just don't bash any of the devs or their work, it is not easy putting this stuff together and I for one am happy that I have a place I can go to that allows me to get away from stock. I hope that all will realize that

Ok, so I've had this phone for about a year now (I rooted it right out the box) and I've been installing new roms and kernals for about a year too. The problem is, I still don't even see a real benefit of rooting. I was a former iOS user and I jailbroke it to get free apps and themes and stuff, which I thought was pretty cool. However, I simply like android better, so I got my HTC Thunderbolt. But I feel that after rooting I have accomplished nothing. Sure I'm able to use SetCPU, but the overclock doesn't even make a huge difference, and it "wears off" within a few minutes. Also, different ROMs all feel the same to me, the only thing that may be different is the look. Gingerbread imo is just a different lockscreen, and I still haven't installed a single theme correctly. Can someone plz argue these points and tell me how to take full advantage of this rooted thunderbolt?

The biggest advantage of rooting my phone is to get rid of all that bloatware crap, block ads and get better battery life. I just got a replacement and had to be on stock for a day before I got a chance to root again. Battery life was horrible with stock. In addition, I personally dont overclock since the phone is running smooth with these roms.

Why root? For me the answer was easy "because I can". I like the fact that I can mod my phone and remove things from it I don't like. Stock is fine and if that is what floats your boat that's cool. It's the same reason you jailbroke you iphone, so it's there when you need it.

Easy response. Free wifi tethering.

For me the biggest reason was for wifi tethering. Blows my mind I would have to pay an additional $30 for tethering ... and that is only for 2GB. It's rare that I use it, but it's nice to have the option.
Other reasons were to either freeze or uninstall apps you can't normally uninstall. I've tried a few roms, but really like sense. So currently running BAMF 1.0.7

If you felt no need to root, then you tried the wrong ROMs or missed doing the useful things that come with it.

I've never heard anyone describe their root experience in such emotionally loaded terms. It's a phone, not a girlfriend. I'm not going to argue with you because I don't have a lot of feelings tied up in my phone and my emotions haven't been placated by rooting it. It's a useful tool that let's me do what I want. I like having a device where I don't run into some stupid wall when I want to do something to it. It's that simple.

How could you have had your TB for "about a year"? It came out barely 7 months ago.
That hyperbole aside, the reason I rooted my TB (which I did when I got mine back in March) was so that I could take control of my device. Since smartphones are really little computers I want full control of it. I wouldn't stand for not having administrator privileges on any of my other computers, why would I stand for it on my phone? That wouldn't fly if I bought a Dell laptop that was locked down because Dell thought that it would provide a more consistent user experience and it won't fly for me from HTC or Verizon.

Whether it's immediately obvious or not, many of these ROMs are extensively modified. BAMF, Gingeritis, and Synergy, just to name a few that are significantly divergent from stock. Some are little more than stock dressed up pretty. Basically, it boils down to what you want or like. I simply don't recommend ROMs because most of the people that do are idiots follow what they think is a cool trend.
Some people have no real need to root a device. You might be one of them. I'm not. I like playing with different ROMs, kernels, apps that require root, and scripts. It also blocks out XDA's uber-annoying video ads. Everyone has their own reasons and some do it just to be cool, it seems.

People here has obviously touch on most of the benefits of rooting. From debloating to free wifi tether to better battery life. This is all true and also why I rooted, but one of the coolest things for me is being able to flash a rom that allows you to be on a version of android or a UI maybe not available on your device yet. Take for example the TB, it is not suppose to ever get sense 3.0 and months before gingerbread was even release i was on gingerbread and running sense 3.0. Heck you can run sense 3.5 now if you want. So to me, being able to be "ahead of the curve" and run software on your phone that is not even out yet for your device is pretty bad a$$.

The problem is, I still don't even see a real benefit of rooting. I was a former iOS user and I jailbroke it to get free apps and themes and stuff, which I thought was pretty cool. However, I simply like android better, so I got my HTC Thunderbolt. But I feel that after rooting I have accomplished nothing. Sure I'm able to use SetCPU, but the overclock doesn't even make a huge difference, and it "wears off" within a few minutes. Also, different ROMs all feel the same to me, the only thing that may be different is the look. Gingerbread imo is just a different lockscreen, and I still haven't installed a single theme correctly. Can someone plz argue these points and tell me how to take full advantage of this rooted thunderbolt?

Quoted both of you because I wanted to reply to both of you. First loonatik. Totally agree. Those three are the most popular and I agree with I don't recommend ROMS because im simply not that picky about the major three that for the most part are about as supermodded as you can get. And many of the mods work on all three sense ROMs. So use what ya like.
As for the OP. If you are having trouble installing themes on whichever ROM you're using post on the thread that those roms come on and there will be several people who can help you get it to work right. (yea there are some douche bags on here but for the msot part people will help). The best reasons I have for rooting and keeping my phone rooted are free wifi tethering mainly and also because like another poster said. If you bought a computer and they told you you had to keep all the crapware they send with it and couldnt uninstall it and that you could only use it a certain way then you would surely get a different computer or you would figure out a way to get around it. I like my car but i don't like my stock stereo that came with it. So i changed it. Should that void the warranty on my car? no but HTC and Verizon think it should. Im not ok with that. If you aren't happy with your rooted phone then you can unroot it and use it as stock for a little while just to see the difference. If it makes no difference to you then keep it unrooted but I think you'll probably see that there is a performance difference and a difference in battery life at least.

Just curious, what app do you guys use?

Synergyrom is by far the best ROM I've put on my tbolt imo, ...tried em all for bout a week each, but I've stuck w synergy in the end....silky smooth...great kernel...great debt support...and best of all..great batt life....with the extended battery, I can go 50+ hours on one charge with moderate use....heavy use I can still get 30-35 hours no sweat... ..all phones are different though...just try em all and c what your phone prefers...

I must be stupid, because I am going to recommend BAMF soab, it's a 3.5 ROM that is relatively fast, and I love all the new features. To each their own though.

I'm gonna take you to task on that. First off, the kernel in that ROM makes the entire ROM warez. Ziggy's work is illegal as hell and a blight to the Android/Linux community. Ziggy's kernels have also proven the worst performers as compared to Imoseyon's and Dreamkernel after repeated tests on the same ROMs. Not to mention his kernels have some serious lag issues no other kernel does. Frankly, I think the stock HTC 2.11.605.3 kernel is faster and smoother.

I am going to have to agree with every single person here. Also, I will be the first to admit it. I do feel cool when I get to reROM my phone and show it off to my friends with stock Android phones. Especially when they cry about not having some of the options available to those of us who ROM. Don't get me wrong I know it does not make me cool to ROM. I just feel cool. But in all actuality, the DEV's are the true cool ones. But, sadly some of my friends don't want to "risk bricking or losing there warranties". But, to each there own. I even have a friend with an iPhone. He loves it, it does exactly what he needs it to do un jailbroken.
The one thing that has been elusive to me though, is a good battery life. I am a fan of BAMF. And am running SoaB at the moment. As a matter of fact currently I can not get Callrecorder to work properly on this ROM. Call recording has been my savings grace so many times. Especially when I had to dispute a bill with VZW them selves. And frankly getting the person on the phone to refund what is owed back to me.is a pain in the rear some times. But, it gets done and recorded. Then, when my next bill rolls around and it has not been properly taken care of, I would call back again and have them read the notes back to me from my previous dispute. And if they say that there are no notes. I let them know that I am recording them and that I have the recording to my last dispute. That changes how the whole ball game is played. So for me, call recording is a must. But everything else every one else stated holds just as true for me also. Any way, good luck in the search for that holy grail of a ROM. I have to go. My phone is dying again for the second time today. Time to link up to the grid again.

CM7. Solid as a fort and fast as hell.
Even thought I got my Stratosphere, it will be an eon (or two, if ever) that I'll see any development for it, so I kept my Thunderbolt around to fill that void.

Actully 4G phones have unlimited hotspot on Verizon, it's the 30$ plan. There isn't a cap at all, so not sure where you get the 2 gig cap on tethering.

Terrible.

After a week with this phone my general consensus is that it works terribly.
First, let me say the hardware is great and the industrial design, the look, is top notch and the only reason I still have the phone.
HTC has really made this phone bad and AT&T hasn't helped by not letting us put our own rom on it to fix the major issues.
Firstly, Gmail push email only works when it wants to work. This is a 2007 issue that's been solved for half a decade.
When I leave my house and I try to use data, the phone shows as still being connected to my WiFi and therefore no data will work. So I have to manually turn wifi off.
Multitasking? Yea right. At first I was puzzled as to why after switching back to an app it would restart. Was the phone running out of RAM? Doesn't it have 1GB? Turns out it's a software thing. Again, multitasking was an issue solved in 2007.
These are the only major issues with this device, and they are major because it affects me multiple times a day.
If this phone didn't have great hardware and look awesome I would have returned it the same day.
The fact that these issues can all be solved by flashing another rom gives me hope that this will someday be a useable device.
Just needed to rant.

I have to admit: the multitasking thing really bothers me. I can't duplicate it on my Gnex and that alone makes me wonder about this phone. It seems to go against everything Android stands for. If I wanted a phone that saves states, I'd use my iPhone.
Love the camera on this phone and the screen is amazing. I love some of Sense's customizations such as the Facebook and Twitter integration in contacts, but they seem to have kind of ruined ICS. My GSM Gnex got just as good battery life with full blown multitasking.

Do you know if we would use cm7 or any other custom rom that we would be able to multitask properly? That is bothering me as well. It keeps reloading everything. If the hardware wasnt so nice, it would have gone back already.

I would imagine so. I think Sense is prematurely killing apps to save memory.

its obviously whatever they set as the default mem manager and how aggresive they set it, probably to do with the scheduler too
i can replicate that behaviour on my cappy by adjusting mem manager to aggresive....so..i wouldnt fault the phone. theyll either adjust it in an update due to feedback, or we can just control it ourselves once we are all on a custom rom.
you shoulda known this if youve ever run any sort of custom rom....one would think. but now you do....so fret no you must young padiwan, good things coming they are, wait you must.

I have no doubt that something like Cyanogenmod would resolve this, but I don't want to install a custom rom and shouldn't have to. The phone should work correctly without hacking it.
From the few responses I have seen from HTC reps that users have contacted, they don't seem to think this is a problem. They claim this is "how multitasking is intended to function". That tells me a fix will not be forthcoming.

I'm not trying to troll, but how do so many people that want to run stock end up on xda lol? I love the hacking & experimenting aspect of Android. That being said, I don't really see any problems with the multi-tasking outside of the browser reloading so much (I've been using Firefox more anyway & it works fine). My galaxy nexus wasn't that much better either. Could htc have done a better job? Sure, probably. But the phone is pretty impressive, multi-tasking issues aside.

You may have noticed (or not, depending on how observant you are) that not every post on here is about hacking, modding, and rooting. Some people actually come here to talk about the phones, report bugs, compare notes, ask questions, etc.
Multitasking is much worse than a browser refresh. Start up Pandora or Slacker and let them run in the background. They will die. Start a game and then open a few other apps and come back to the game and it will completely reload and lose all progress. This is not how Android multitasking is supposed to work.
And I'm sorry, but waiting for a custom rom to make this phone work correctly is like buying a Macbook Air, getting nonstop kernel panics and hoping that someone will release a version of Linux that you can install on it to make it run correctly.

I do understand that there are plenty of non-development threads given that this is in "general". Nobody is making you keep the phone and wait for a fix either. But you are right, it is a vital function of the phone and you would expect it to perform as it's supposed to. Every phone I've owned has had some kind of flaw or quirk and the developers here do an awesome job fixing them as well as making the phone better in almost every aspect fairly quickly.
*Edit - So after thinking about it, I realized that I haven't really used the multi-tasking feature all that much and decided to put it through some tests. Apparently it does suck lol so I apologize ...using home to exit current app then going back to a previously used app via the launcher does work a little better, but there is definitely some work to be done

Rants are good. Gets the word out on issues that hopefully get resolved.

At least be accurate with your rant. From a little googling the Tmobile G1 was release in 2008 and Gmail push was released in 2009, not 2007.

I went to a store to try this device tonight. The hardware and screen are simply awesome. Sense even looks nice and the UI was lightning quick. It is really disappointing that basic things like WiFi-3G handoff and multitasking are not working right...things I've taken for granted for awhile on CyanogenMod. I agree with others, I was hoping to not have to mess with custom ROMs at all, by now it should just work great out of the box. Now I have to monitor the software situation here and compare to the SGSIII when it's released.

[Q] switching from captivate glide

hi..
i'm getting this phone since i was tired waiting for the JB port for the captivate glide (and i mean a port which actually works with bluetooth phone), plus, i see that it seems to have a faster processor, and actually official support for JB) still i don't understand why it's considered low activity legacy device. (i don't care much about the camera, at most i just do portal submission to google. )

Um, not to be rude, but where's the question? lol
It's specs are rather mid-range, the keyboard is very niche by now.. so it's a low activity device due to its low popularity?

uh, yes, and this is relay's own. doesn't really matter where they put it...

We didn't choose to put the device here. The mods did.
We're lucky to even have a forum. Despite the fact that low end phones which you've never heard of got forums before they even launched, the mods decided that the Relay was not popular enough to have one. Even once we had a booting CM9 ROM. After 6 months of complaints, they finally gave us one. But they put it here.
Previously we were squatting in another device's forum, so this is an improvement.

i mean it has an OFFICIAL jellybean, and i'm assuming someone made it a stock rom of jelly bean. it has a better processor even.
what i don't understand is why do you even NEED a section of low activity devices, i mean it's not like you don't have enough ROOM on the internet like a library or something.

Aye, and to your earlier point we worked hard to get us our own little space.
Had the device gotten it's own forum at launch or before it, popularity would be higher... but that's a cause and effect issue that's long past debating.

I'm thinking about swtiching from the captivate glide for the same reasons, i want a jellybean phone with working bluetooth and a physical qwerty keyboard.
How do you relay 4g owners find the keyboard vs. the glide ? easier to type?
How are the cases, number row easy to access?
How are the Rom's ... Fully working, issues ??
I'm pretty comfortable with my phone but i've never been "in love" with teh keyboard like I was on a blackberry.. .i find the keys are too spaced apart and too big for typing without looking at the keyboard.
speed performance etc are great.
camera spec shows 5mp camera vs. 8mp. How are the quality of the pictures vs the glides ??

my impression were (i've ditched it and returned to glide)
the keyboard does seem easier to type, and glide buttons seem harder to press, i keep getting my fingers stuck in the middle between the keys. the numbers row are easy access cases seem solid.
roms however are a problem, i'm talking about the stock roms as i havn't been able nor to root, or intstall a rom. there seems to be a wifi issue that keeps getting the phone disconnected and re-connected, making internet connection impossible, initially i thought it might be my AP acting up, but the glide didn't have any issues. only the relay.
another main problem, is that performance, or lack of it. to tell you the truth , i didn't notice any difference, in fact it might have been more sluggish then the glide. this off course might have been an issue with all the bloatware i couldn't uninstall not being root, however i noticed that with jellybean you specify disable on each service, and that might have been helfull.
my attempts at doing root, failed. i tried using CWM, (there seems to be only one version for this phone) however this particualr cwm fails at installing everything else on signature verification message. in other cwm mods, and twrp you can disable signature verification, but they are all being installed with cwm (not odin flashable).
in the end i tried re-flashing the rom with JB, and ended up with wel..not a brick, but ever since then, i can't seem to dial out. there internet seems to be working over the sim card, but not dialing. i'm not sure if i should get another phone to try again, as there doesn't seem to be much support, actually i didn't even see any "bare boned" rooted stable non-alpha roms for this thing yet (or ever be). like the glide has.
as for the camera, i realy don't think there's a difference between 5 and 8 mp, i didn't see any difference.
in short, hardware the phone seems fine, however the rom ,root, etc.. lack of it) doesn't seem to be very common, as of know i'm not sure if i should get another one and try again, or hold off and see if it dies.

I moved to this phone from the samsung epic. I loved that phone and wanted something similar so I got the relay on a whim. I was able to root and install cm with little trouble. The keyboard is nice but I think the droid 4 keyboard feels nicer. My fiancee has the droid 4, however, and the phone has had many problems with it. Some chargers do not fit well in port, thus not charging the phone. Also the phone gets really hot and read somewhere sometimes this melts stuff inside, thus phone not charging the phone as well. Overall relay is boss, although I rooted and flashed everything before official jb update. So not sure what that entails. The new kernel is still iffy for me. Getting "...not responding" messages for several apps stock and otherwise, but running 6.19 build and everything is smooth.
