front camera - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed the other day that the front camera wasn't centered then I realized that there are 2 holes in front of the transformer. I know one is the camera, but what is the other one for?

Might be the light sensor.

[Q] What is it

Ok so my phone got smash so I decided to take it completely apart. I was wondering what exactly is the device that has the grey rubber cap on it(under the cap it has a small hole but has a type of mesh on it also) that is between the little sensor that has 3 lenses on it and the ear piece mic. Is it a front facing cam that hasn't been activated? When I put the part number I saw on the end of the ribbon cable a site that says it is a .31mp cam(tp://pdadb dot net/index.php?m=specs&id=2680&view=1&c=samsung_sch-i500_galaxy_s_mesmerize]) under the secondary cam spec. Any ideas??

Just don't do it...
I saw that thread but nobody actually answered what was the 4 sensors for. I got the part in my hand from the inside of the phone. It has one chip that has 3 sensor on it. Then there is other chip to the right that has a grey cap and one sensor in it and then their is the ear mic. They all are connected with the same ribbon cable. I don't know how to post a pic up here but I can email you one if you would like of it.

I sent you a PM.. I'll pull up what I have and wait for your pic.
Just sent it. It will be coming from a gmail account.
Perhaps the answer people are looking for is: "It's a camera FOR the proximity sensor.." The sensor sends out IR light and then 'looks' at it to see how close it is bouncing off something. NO it cannot be hacked to be a forward facing camera. Period.

No front facing camera unfortunately. Should be a hole for the light and proximity sensors...

Yes our phone has a FFC that no one knew abou till you discovered it from a case...
Yes, as stated earlier, definitely for the light and proximity sensors. If you want to test it, when you are on a call, cover up the hole with your finger. The proximity sensor will turn your display off until you remove your finger again.

[Q]Nexus 5 camera lens

Hi all,
Just wanted to get people's opinion on the lens, specifically the large lens cover. I have a scratch across mine, which in one part is rather deep. Not crack levels of deepness, but deeper than a hairline. I currently have a dbrand skin covering the lens - is this likely to develop into a crack, or should I not worry about it?
I've read somewhere that the camera lens is sapphire crystal and virtually unscratchable - I'm calling BS on that.
Thanks

I don't mind it, especially if its a design choice LG had to make in-order to incorporate the OIS camera sensor. I'd rather have a slightly protruding camera lens on an otherwise thin phone over a recessed camera on a thick phone or a weird camera hump like that of the nokia 1020.

I don't think a small scratch on something small like the camera lens would grow to be a crack. So don't worry about it.

You've read wrong, Nexus 5 was never claimed to have a sapphire crystal camera lens.

Is the front facing camera lousy?

The front facing camera on my One X is horrible. The selfies are washed out and extremely low res, nowhere near the quality from my Droid Razr that has the same megapixel count. What could cause this? Does the proximity sensor have anything to do with the camera? I have a screen protector and it has a cutout for this sensor but I don't know if the cutout is big enough since I can't see the sensor. I have not taken a picture w/o the screen protector installed. Anything else I should be looking at?
The proximity sensor has nothing to do with the front facing camera. In all honesty, it doesn't take great pictures. You might have some dust built up in there, try cleaning it out with a cotton bud.

Thanks. I did that after doing a search on the issue (which I should have done before my post-my bad) and the difference is night and day. I never would have guessed a lens could get so dirty that it would literally make a camera unusable but now I know it can.

Something moving inside the phone

A few days ago I noticed this weird rattling noise when I shake my phone, as if something inside is moving. I thought maybe the home button was wobbly, so I held the home button firmly and the noise is still there. I managed to hold all the buttons to prevent them from moving and shook the phone, but there's still something rattling inside it. I think it's the camera since if I take a closer look, it doesn't look like it's completely straight.
Also, when I launch the camera app, there are minor 'lags' when I move the phone, also it takes longer to focus now and sometimes doesn't focus at all.
Any idea if the rattling inside is the camera lens or lens cover or is it something else?

It's the camera. Because the rear camera has OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) sensor. While you don't use the camera, the lens is going to move arroung where it is. But if you turn on the rear camera and shake your phone you'll stop hearing because OIS is working

I was worried about the same thing. Is it normal?

It's normal, don't worry. Once you star the rear camera, the magnets of the OIS will activate and if you shake it you won't hear that until you switch of the camera again.
