No front facing camera unfortunately. Should be a hole for the light and proximity sensors...

Yes our phone has a FFC that no one knew abou till you discovered it from a case...

Yes, as stated earlier, definitely for the light and proximity sensors. If you want to test it, when you are on a call, cover up the hole with your finger. The proximity sensor will turn your display off until you remove your finger again.

[Q] What is it

Ok so my phone got smash so I decided to take it completely apart. I was wondering what exactly is the device that has the grey rubber cap on it(under the cap it has a small hole but has a type of mesh on it also) that is between the little sensor that has 3 lenses on it and the ear piece mic. Is it a front facing cam that hasn't been activated? When I put the part number I saw on the end of the ribbon cable a site that says it is a .31mp cam(tp://pdadb dot net/index.php?m=specs&id=2680&view=1&c=samsung_sch-i500_galaxy_s_mesmerize]) under the secondary cam spec. Any ideas??

Just don't do it...
I saw that thread but nobody actually answered what was the 4 sensors for. I got the part in my hand from the inside of the phone. It has one chip that has 3 sensor on it. Then there is other chip to the right that has a grey cap and one sensor in it and then their is the ear mic. They all are connected with the same ribbon cable. I don't know how to post a pic up here but I can email you one if you would like of it.

I sent you a PM.. I'll pull up what I have and wait for your pic.
Just sent it. It will be coming from a gmail account.
Perhaps the answer people are looking for is: "It's a camera FOR the proximity sensor.." The sensor sends out IR light and then 'looks' at it to see how close it is bouncing off something. NO it cannot be hacked to be a forward facing camera. Period.

front camera

I noticed the other day that the front camera wasn't centered then I realized that there are 2 holes in front of the transformer. I know one is the camera, but what is the other one for?

Might be the light sensor.

What the hell is this

Huh...
Today I was looking at my 3 weeks old phone and I noticed something like bubble between touch digitizer and LCD...
Has someone else this crap on their phones?
Proximity sensor.
Isn`t proximity sensor ABOVE red circle?
Huh all phones have this:
Swishh....
Yep prox sensor. The HTC screen protectors even have cutouts for that.
Thanks both of you for answers.
This is my 4th HTC phone and I feel kind of stupid right now
prox sensor it's normal

Why would you feel stupid?
That was a perfectly legitimate question.
TBH,I never noticed it until you pointed it out.
Phew...
First time HTC Owner...
I also noticed that when I was cleaning the LCD... I thought it was a defect on my unit...Ignored it because everything was fine and it's actually unnoticeable unless you stick your nose to the LCD when you use the phone
Now I am relieved to know that it is light/proximity sensor...
Thanks!

Is the front facing camera lousy?

The front facing camera on my One X is horrible. The selfies are washed out and extremely low res, nowhere near the quality from my Droid Razr that has the same megapixel count. What could cause this? Does the proximity sensor have anything to do with the camera? I have a screen protector and it has a cutout for this sensor but I don't know if the cutout is big enough since I can't see the sensor. I have not taken a picture w/o the screen protector installed. Anything else I should be looking at?
The proximity sensor has nothing to do with the front facing camera. In all honesty, it doesn't take great pictures. You might have some dust built up in there, try cleaning it out with a cotton bud.

Thanks. I did that after doing a search on the issue (which I should have done before my post-my bad) and the difference is night and day. I never would have guessed a lens could get so dirty that it would literally make a camera unusable but now I know it can.

Sensors on bezel?

Quick question, I see there are 2 sensors on the bezel near the camera (well, a bit above/to the right of the camera). I assume one is an ambient light sensor, and I'm not sure about the other one. Proximity sensor? Is that needed on a tablet? The screen covers use magnets to wake the device right? Anybody know for sure?

The tablet has a polarity sensor So yes you need Magnets to use the Wake function fyy has a nice cover for 5 bucks if you dont want to spend 40 on a piece of cloth that Covers the front .Where do you see these sensors exactly I've been trying to locate them with no luck ?

You need to get a lot of light on it (I had an open window next to it). Then with the tab in landscape with the front cam on the left hand side, they are under the glass a bit to the right and above the front cam.

I saw these just the other day and I'm wondering what they are, too. Trying to find something about them on Google but no luck so far.

Any idea why they would use a proximity sensor? Not like we are holding it to our faces. And the cover uses magnets to wake the device. Hmm.
I have read that it has no proximity sensor somewhere.. Still waiting for my case.. So I have been trying tap tap app but failed.. No proximity sensor detected..

There was rumours of a variant which had voice calling function. I used this to test the proximity sensor: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tigermonster.proxfinder
