First let me say I love my G2x overall and I have no desire to return it or even leave TMobile. But.........
Let me start this by stating that I have Verizon fiOS at home and a Netgear Wireless AP. My phone and various other equipment connect to the Netgear for internet access. I've noticed on my phone that at random times I have a full wireless signal and 4G (2G or G, depending on the time of day I suppose) on my notification bar. I originally didn't think much about it thinking my wireless would override the 4G.
Well I decided to root my phone and use BloatFreezer to freeze some apps (MyAccount, Qik, TeleNav, etc), plus I believe many feel that MyAcount is the cause of this, but with all 3 instances of it frozen is it still the reason behind this?
Last night I had it happen yet again and I ran speedtest just to see which of the 2 was the main one. Well not to my surprise the cell data was overriding my wireless.
I'm (hopefully) attaching the 2 pictures I took. One with the celldata active and showing what SpeedTest reported and a 2nd with cell data off and the new speedtest report.
My basic question here is what service/app/etc am I needing to freeze to avoid this again, it's extremely annoying when I'm trying to watch youtube only to have my phone in the middle attempt to use cell data and it can't due to reception and boot me from the video, or when I'm downloading from the market.
I noticed this also. Usually when opening up Market or My Account. I know for fact that My Account only works over cell tower so it will automatically disable wifi and bring back 3g. Dunno about Market but I suspect the same.
just get an app with a widget to turn off data when you are using wifi???? I dont have this issue at all so I can't really help much, but its an alternative, for now.
Doesnt wifi calling turn data off completely when connected? Could try that.

Correct. This would work.
Believe its the tmo my account app, freeze it and see if it helps.
G2X
I have myaccount frozen already. My wifi calling turns on whenever it feels like it, it sometimes turns on right away other times it takes an hour or so to finally connect. Ill keep an eye on this when wifi calling is on to see if my issue is still there.

It might be the Market app. I get perfect Wifi unless I open up market app or any app that access the market.
I just turn wifi off and on again. Fixes it. Not that we should have to.

For the life of me, I can't get MyAccount.apk to stop running. Its frozen with TB, and I moved it out of /system/app folder.
Its always in the foreground in SystemPanel...

just delete the apk all together and reboot...
bloat freezer app's default will freeze an app more completely than titanium backup will. it also has the partial freeze option like titanium does as well. after freezing with bloat freezer it disappeared from even titanium backup seeing it.

Ok I've had wifi calling enabled all day and sure enough 2G came up and took over data service for no apparent reason, I wasn't in the market app or myaccount. I was simply texting when I noticed it, I ran speedtest again and verified 2G was the active service even though I had wifi on
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I also might add that I have SwitchPro on and when I have wifi enabled the data connection is shown to be disabled (tells me it gets disabled when wifi is active) but I still had the cell data icon on and overridding my wifi. So obviously disabling my data through a widget doesn't solve my issue.

I've been having Wi-fi issue's ever since i bought the phone, traded it in for another one, and still had the wi-fi issue.
MY WI-FI issue was:
My phone would connect to my router the first time, and if i restart my phone the Wireless Symbol is still connected, but there are errors not letting me connect to the MARKET, or the WEB BROWSER!
i'm very upset! but i do love this phone, and i hate that this one wifi issue is ruining it for me!
i dont want to keep on factory resetting it over and over again!
I don't want to:
ROOT It
QUESTION:
WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX THIS? :[
Wait for GB or nothing

what percentage would u give it that the wi-fi issue will be fixed in the next update?
It seems the wifi problem is caused by the bloatwares, probably myaccount. either way, after I uninstall those my wifi works like a charm.
how were u able uninstall them?!

I have this issue sometimes. I can get the wifi to work by:
1. Turning off wifi
2. Turning on 4G data
3. Turning off 4G data
4. Turning on wifi again
Hope this helps.
I had a similar problem. Wifi would show connected to my router, but it would only sporadically let me actually access anything (market and browser).
Then, by chance when I was trying to use the browser, I got a message that read: You do not have the correct data plan for this device.
I hit the chat support on T-Mobile. Apparently, a feature had not been enabled on my service. (My SIM was in my Nokia N900 before and it worked fine on HSPA+). The support tech enabled it and my G2x was working in 10 mins. Never had any more problems.
There was no charge and no change in my data plan -- it was just some config thing about my account.

If you are having WiFi problems with stock ROM, it is either your hardware (unlikely) or possibly an issue with your TMo account and/or SIM. I have had no issues with mine - either before or after rooting and flashing a few ROM's. I have My Account still working - no effect.
If you are looking to CM7 to make it better - not in the immediate future. I have it on another device, and a notable issue with CM7 WiFi is that it is not as strong or stable as stock.
You should get TMo tech support on the phone and have them address your problem. If a tweak to your data account and/or a new SIM doesn't fix it - you should demand a replacement phone.
All this assumes it is not problems with your WiFi Router - I have had a few issues with some where having more then one or two devices active caused connection problems.

I rooted the device, and removed carrier preloaded apps and made sure my wifi was set to not disable when the screen turned off. I had had issues with wifi calling before and after all that, the audio is crisp and the wifi rarely drops
work around
With a stock configuration you can clear
this problem when it occurs with
setdns app (free).
It restores working dns configuration.
When this is NOT sufficient you may also have to
disable then reenable your wifi. I installed a one-click
wifi on/off app (free) for this.
This is also necessary to force a reconnect when you
go in and out of a memorized wifi zone - it will rarely
reconnect automatically.
I found that rooting the device and freezing the bloatware
only improves the situation only slightly so I don't believe it's
worth the time.
This is at least the 4th wifi thread that's been opened and I've
posted this workaround before. Can we sticky one of these??

When wifi and wifi-calling are enabled, it disconnects from the tmo network.. Great.. no problemo. I don't want it connected to the tmo network at the same time.
But.. when I lose the wifi.. i.e. service is interrupted, I leave the area, etc., then wifi-calling is stuck "ON" and I cannot return to the tmo network because the app is trying to find the wi-fi connection. This causes all voice/data to be dead.
I have tried killing the wifi-calling app via ATK, it won't shut down. I tried to FC it, no go. I tried to reboot the phone.. no go. I tried to kill it via Watchdog.. no go.
So basically, if I forget to shut off the app b4 I leave my wifi area, I'm screwed and dead in the water. Or, if the wifi connection is lost (i.e. service interruption), I'm screwed.
The only way wifi-calling will display the on/off button is when it has a wifi connection.. I know, I know.. I must force myself to remember to shut the stupid app off before leaving the local network.. but I forget at times.
I have only found 1 work around, and I'm hoping someone else can chime in on this. I'd like to see if there is an easier way around this.. It can be fixed via freezing the app. Then the tmo network kicks in. As soon as the app is unfrozen, it goes back to searching out wifi and disabling all voice/data.. until I get a wifi connection.
Thoughts?
can someone test this to see if they get the same results?

Seriously? You have wifi calling and wifi enabled. You shut off wifi and it automatically switches off wifi calling?
that's messed up. If I do that, I'm w/o service. Guess I'll reinstall the app..

Thanks!!! I have discussed this on the forums a bunch of times in misc. conversations and no one has said "Hey, that's not the case for mine." I thought it was a glitch with the app.
R&R'd the app.. good to go. Thanks so much.. It's been like this since I took it out of the box.
When I use WiFi tethering, it stops working every five minutes or so, as in the network is still being broadcast, but no pages will load. I confirmed that it is not the computer. Does this happen to any of you?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Its because you have apps up/downloading which will put tethering on hold.
Your apps have priority over the tethering, there's no work around to that.
Best bet is to check your apps settings to see which one runs randomly or constantly.
I suspect it would be the lookout app that is running, change settings.
I still have this problem too, but in my case its because I only get 1 or 2 bars signal.
So my phone just started showing this behavior like a day or two ago. It's doing it right now. Both my Wifi and 4G icons appear in the notification bar. The 4G icon isn't showing activity (the download and upload arrows are dimmed), BUT if I go to my "Phone Info" app, and go to Phone Information it shows:
GSM service: In service
GPRS service: Connected
Network Type: HSDPA
Before whenever I was on Wifi only the Wifi icon would show up, and Phone Info would show GPRS Service as : Disconnected, i.e. normal behavior. Now it appears there is a conflict somewhere and the 4G network is showing as connected even when wifi is on.
Now, I did make some changes recently:
1) Temp-rooted and pm disabled a bunch of bloatware - this was like 4 or 5 days ago and I didn't have the problem at all so I'm not sure if it's related.
2) I unchecked Wireless Settings > Mobile Networks > "Enable always on mobile data" - Thought it might save battery when in sleep mode.
I think the problem started after #2. I've since checked that option back on, restarted, airplane mode, battery pull etc., but it's still exhibiting the same behavior. I've never seen this happen on any of my past Android devices (a lot). If I go to the Quick Settings it shoes Mobile Network is OFF but it IS checked. It's really confusing. When you turn Wifi on, Mobile network should disconnect, but according to phone Info, mine is on and I've been getting "network issue, try again" in the Market, and "Network Communication issues" in the Speedtest app so clearly something is being affected.
This has been my ONLY problem with my Sensation thus far, and the fact that it JUST started doing this makes me wonder what I could have done to affect it.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Every once in awhile the 4G icon WILL disappear leaving only Wifi on, and Phone info shows GPRS service: Disconnected, but eventually the 4G/2G icon comes back and Phone info shows GPRS service: Connected, so it keeps trying/turning itself on even though my Wifi is connected. WTF!
If you're on a t mo device it's because of the my device app. Open and close it or end the process in system panel and it should fix the problem.
I believe this is somewhat normal...
I have voice only plan and disabled data through the *#*#INFO#*#* menus. The only way I can get data is through Wifi, which I always have enabled, regardless when I go to About Phone -> Network, I see mobile network type HSDPA.
It seems like voice is going through the 3G/4G but not any data. Not sure why you do get the 4G popping up, I sure don't.

Thanks! I tracked down the second package name for "My Account" (one is for My Account, one is for My device), disabled and rebooted. So far so good; Wifi is connected, no 4G icon, and Phone info shows GPRS service: Disconnected as it should. I had already disabled one package but not the other. I can live w/o the My account feature for a bit and I'll keep an eye out to see if the problem returns.

You phone will always connect to data whn using Tmobile apps such as my account app. Its because they need network data, not web data, to get their info like your usage, and billing. If you manually shut of data and turn wifi on and try to open the my account app, it will give you error.
Just because you turn Wifi on, it doesnt make the data shut off. It just connects to WIFI because its a stronger signal. It will still access the 4G data for netork required information. You can manually shut off mobile data and then turn on wifi if you want.
^This is true, I'm manually switching 4G off when connected to WiFi.

Of course it does. What would be the point in having BOTH Wifi and 4g/3g/EDGE data on at the same time, all the time? That would be a HUGE drain on your battery if it were constantly using both radios and connected to/searching for both networks. When you turn Wifi on, the mobile data radio gets turned off. When you de-activate Wifi, mobile data turns back on. This is why you get much better battery life on Wifi because the 4g/3g radio gets turned off. Plus, both can't be connected at the same time or else there would be routing problems i.e., it would get confused as to which connection to use.
This is exactly what happened to my phone in that that both WERE on at the same time and it was causing no traffic to get in/out and I couldn't figure out why. Disabling the two t-mobile My Account packages solved it so it seems like
one was trying to connect in the background and couldn't but then froze the radio state. I'm not gonna re-enable the app to confirm but IIRC when you're on Wifi and fire up the My Account app, it either prompts you to turn off wifi, or it just disables wifi temporarily and fires up the mobile radio in the background, and re-enables when you're done.

Right, but what I'm saying is that I wasn't running the app. It does run as a service though so I'm wondering if it was trying to connect on it's own in the background, though I'm not sure why. I haven't seen this behavior on any other devices including my Sensation before I disabled one of the My Account apps, but I'm almost positive at this point it was the culprit. Could be because I had only disabled one of them and not both. After I disabled the second, the problem went away.
Do you have WiFi sleep disabled?
If not, phone may revert to regular data until you start communicating and wake up your WiFi.
Just a thought.

Nope, sleep policy is set to "Never" and wifi sticks fine. Still happened even with screen on so wifi was def. awake. I fixed it by disabling the T-Mo My Account apps so I'm cool but maybe it can help someone else if they have the same problem. It's really weird, never seen it happen before. I wish I took a video of it before I disabled the apps. Thanks guys.

It's poor coding in the app. Nothing you're doing wrong.
My Verizon Galaxy S3 has been dropping its data connection since the update a few days ago. Sometimes it's been an hour or more before it's restored, other times it drops to 3G briefly before returning to 4G. I'm also noticing reduced battery life, which is almost certainly caused by the data problem.
The internet is abuzz with others reporting the same problems and tech support tells me that they're aware of the issue and are waiting for Samsung to put out a fix.
I seemed to have the same problems as you described and doing a sim card pull then battery pull and put back in and the phone will reboot. Then wait 5-10 min and put back in the sim card and then reset phone. When phone reboots change to cdma/lte in the network settings and reboot again.
Data seems to work about as good as previous update. And best part is you don't have to factory reset. I am going to take a wild guess that the lte authentication is having problems with the update and resetting the sim card on the network clears things up. Try this and report back if it works or not.
Almost forgot the new caller id app may have something to do with these data freezes as well. What you do is go into settings, application manager, scroll over to all category and head down to caller name id and click on it. Then clear data, disable and finally hit force stop. You might want to reboot after this but it should stop it from running. It's a pos rip off and you can get a free app that does the same.
**After a couple days testing it appears that this caller id app is the main source of problems. I have ran global and cdma/lte settings and data gets locked up constantly when this app is left to run. If you can't get on 4g at all since update you need to do the following first and foremost. Settings, more settings, mobile networks, access point names and make sure lte-verizon internet is check. I have seen this setting uncheck itself so double check it please.**
Tried and it did nothing for me. 5 minutes after following your directions, my phone dropped data again.
Thanks though.
I'm in the middle of a chat with a Samsung rep and they're system doesn't even show this update being released....lol.
Do settings, about phone, status under signal strength what does that read?
-106 dBm 32 asu
I do have a 4G connection right now.
That is a pretty low signal for 4g lte. I am gonna assume that you had drops prior to this software update but they where a lot more rare?

Well there really is only one other thing to do an it's a factory reset. Odds are it won't help since others have tried it and it did nothing for them. Otherwise we get the fun process of waiting multiple months for a fix.
Just wanted to give a heads up. I originally thought you could uninstall the new caller id bloatware but it appears it only uninstalls the icon from the drawer so you still have to go into application manager and disable it because it turns itself back on after uninstalling.

Still on the older version. The LTE signal is marginal where I am. I routinely get between -106 and -112 with 2 bars, and I never lose my 4G signal and the download almost always tests at 8Mbps or greater. At work, I have all but one bar, and my signal is 88.
A signal of -106 does not mean that the phone will lose the 4G signal. I rarely drop until I get to around -118. Though I'm sure that these phones could have a stronger signal than they do, they seem to hold on to a signal pretty well.
I haven't lost my data since disabling the caller ID app.

Yeah it's the same for me. When I realized that turning on wifi that 4g lte would stay on I knew this app was tied into the radio. And being made by verizon I had a funny feeling this would be of the lowest quality.
