[Q] clockworkmod - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

This is my first post so i cant do it in the other post. I know that it is in beta 3 which is still in trial and not final. What i want to know is if it will be available in Rom Manager once it is final. I am new to all of this and bricked one phone(used these threads to unbrick it) so i think rom manager is easier. Thanks

Im almost certain that it will be in ROM Mgr. Once all the kinks are worked out, that the usual process.

Krylon has stated that it will be submitted to Koush for inclusion in Rom Manager once it is finished.

... you're correct... It is difficult to keep up with all the question/answer/bashing which goes on in these fora... I've been visiting for about a week now... and while I have learned a great deal... I've also learned that there are many "unreliable" postings...
(stepping up on a soapbox)... Forum posting should be used for resolving problems... not for "training" -- which should be covered in the wiki. I had hoped that the XDA Wiki would have such articles... alas, it is not to be.
One thing that we could all benefit from would be more activity in the Wiki... and relying on the Forums to clarify/resolve issues. It is quite difficult to follow a thread which (for example) has posts #1, #18, #32, #200 which contain accurate information... and all the other posts filled with folks who have encountered problems... Hard to filter out the 196 posts to get at the meat of what is trying to be communicated.
One example of a nice summary which someone created is at cyclopscomputers (I am not affiliated with that poster, but -- because I am new here -- I cannot refer to that URL). All the information was gleaned from XDA, but posted in a very clear posting.
All I am saying is that it would be nice if we could pull together a group (and, yes, I am volunteering to be a member) who could glean the information into a clear and simple prose for everyone to follow.
EDIT: Upon closer inspection, it is not correct that ALL of the info on the cyclopscomputers site (which I refererenced above) is from xda... but, for me, the best parts are from this forum.

I second your thoughts thegeek

Assistance for improving XDA Wiki

I am interested in volunteering some time into helping to improve the XDA Wiki in order to bring a balance to the FORUM + WIKI equation. Who among this community has time (and is willing) to assist?
In addition to this post, I have brought the issue up with Dave Shaw who is the sysop of the Wiki.
ill spare some time since im always in here answering questions. I was going to ask Mr clown too make some stickies

Thanks fknfocused. If we use the Wiki properly, we can avoid having to tax Mr Clown with routine details... And, while stickies in forums are nice, they create a bottleneck since they are so tightly controlled.
I created a group for Galaxy S 4G Owners (http://forum.xda-developers.com/group.php?groupid=421) which you may be interested in. I am simply looking for ways to help us help ourselves better...

That is one problem; another is that old-timers post with a "+1" to mean they agree... I see that there is a request outstanding to add an "AGREE" button (like the "THANKS" one)...
The first thing that we need to do is to identify what information needs to be added. In the wiki, there has not been a GS4G page created yet. I've put a stub on my User page... This is one cause for all the noob questions in the fora, I am guessing. Since, at present, searches do not exist on the wiki side.
The things that are specific to the GS4G are the ROM Mods, kernel, and CWM (which, of course, is still beta)...
Announcement: New Wiki Page evolving
Now, when one searches the XDA-Developers Wiki for "Galaxy S 4G," the researcher will be directed to an emerging Wiki page about the SGS4G. Further, if one searches for "Nandroid Backup," the search engine provides a list of links:
General Reference
Specific Reference
Among other results
As stated in my previous postings here, together we can improve XDA-Developers by adding content to the Wiki which balances the content of the Fora (which are abundantly active!).
Again I ask, "Would you please help us in this venture?"

Just putting this back at the top of the 'unread' list... maybe people will start jumping on the 'update the wiki' bandwagon.
I put some general guides on there. But what exactly should go on there?
Edit: Some user updates to this page is a pretty good place to start, I suppose.

Wait we have a WIKI? I've been around for a little while and I didn't know that. Maybe the first step would be to get the news out in a forum layout. Meaning sticky the link. Maybe put it into the subforum listing? Sounds like a great way to put all the resources available here into an easy to use format. I don't know much about how it works but if I can help let me know.

The basic wiki format is easy to learn. Just hit edit and see how the page is actually organized.
I updated the Gingerbread section on the Samsung Galaxy S 4G ROMs wiki page to place sort of a general template. I left out the ones based on leaks as they are pretty outdated.

Community issues: Campaign for a fresh start

Hi guys,
You probably already know me from my other threads, mostly the support thread. If not, I would like to give a brief introduction: in june, I received an upgrade from at&t and decided to purchase the infuse 4g my first android phone.
I was thrilled with its performance, and the community started off strong. ROM's were coming out surprisingly fast, actually too fast for me to figure out which one I liked best.
I began to see that the developers threads were getting cluttered up with silly, often repeated questions, so I created a support thread to help lessen the load for the devs. I know it wasn't a perfect solution, but I helped build a small team of people who have been incredibly helpful so far, who I am beyond impressed with.
Now comes the bad part. Even my support thread, originally designed to avoid clutter, has become a landfill of lazy people who don't look for the answer to their question which has been asked and answered 30 times already.
All the devs have been subjected to so much bs that they are afraid to even release their work. Everyone flames everyone like crazy, but none of you guys can help the community. I am disgusted by most of your behaviors, and hope that you see how childish your arguments are.
Now, for my point: this community is still young, and we have accomplished so much already. We have the chance to have one of the strongest development teams out there, and a kick-ass community, in which we look out for each other's best interest.
I would like to propose a way to get things started again: we need a campaign to delete clutter/flame.
Neo works hard, but we need to help him out. Everyone, I urge you to look through your posts, find bad ones, and mark them in some way to be deleted. This is in order to resuscitate this potentially unbeatable community.
Thank you all, and I hope you understand my intentions

constructive crticism welscome
Moderator's(Neo) intervention was required as gtg's thread was going out of control.
as after his intervention members have started behaving themselves and Neo has removed/locked unnecessary threads this forum is at peace.
let the dead bury the dead and do not remind people again of what happened.
Just post relevant stuff and that is sufficient for everybody.
P.S.
if issues are not resolved then it never will be as no one will accept blame and any such thread will eventually result in blame game.
right now see that people are just paying attention to information, now calling them for campaign is also a distraction.

Hey, thanks for sharing your opinion with me in a respectful manner. However, I feel that the issue is not yet resolved, and the general forum is definitely the appropriate place to post it. The development is virtually at a standstill and I am not talking about gtg, but the other devs and would be devs who are now discouraged. I find that although your response was polite, it was completely inappropriate, especially considering what my original post stated. If you have an issue with my posts please message in private as opposed to calling me out/ racking up your post count.

I'm glad you guys are willing to help out in getting this show on the road. This can only be done by helpful members, especially the ones who read the rules and abide by them.
I think the main issue at hand is that people tend to speak their mind too often, in situations where a moderator should intervene. The best course of action is to report a post or PM a mod (for the Infuse, that's me ) and let them know what's going on.
I'm not on the board 24/7, so I too can miss stuff. But there are ALWAYS other mods who look after the Infuse forums when I can't, so reporting is the BEST thing you can do.
About "rebooting" the community: People are already getting annoyed by the lazy, demanding types, who don't use the search and just post another question which has been asked a million times before. Well, at least if it's in the Q&A forum, it's controlled. So that's our main focus for now: get people to ask their questions there, instead of the development or general forums.
This thread can stay open, as long as it's constructive criticism. All ideas are welcome, as long as it helps us out, right?

I wasn't aware that there was a Q&A forum until you mentioned it. I'm using the xda app and have the SAMSUNG Infuse 4g as my favorite, but within that category, the Q&A forum isn't listed. I clicked onto the forum tab and scrolled till I found the Q&A forum. Yeah people can search for it, but I wasn't even aware that forum existed. I just suggest adding the forum into the Infuse 4g category. I think there will be less questions asked in the wrong section if it was listed.

And I think another reason why we see a lot of similar topics being posted especially regarding support is because new users (like myself) feel we need support about our specific situation, even tho we may have already read a similar thrend. Its happened to me were I posted help and either ill get a smart reply ie "its been posted 10 times already" or they may reply with a link. The link will be exactly what I've already read but, the thrend doesn't 100% pertain to my situation so I'm afraid I may mess up even more if I follow those steps (its actually already happened,my first brick) This is why we may see a lot of repeat thrends. I usually will encourage my support giver to pm me but I hardly receive any.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Well, xda-developers is for... DEVELOPERS. Although most people on xda are in it for the custom roms and leeching of apps.
I agree there should be some kind of a "noob sandbox" where new users can ask their questions and get answers from more seasoned users/devs. But how do you guys propose we do that?

Are devs leaving XDA in favor of ROOTZWIKI?

It used to be almost every dev would release their mods on XDA and they would eventually trickle out to the other forums. Lately I noticed more stuff being released on ROOTZWIKI and not on XDA. 2 cases in point are IMNUTS hacked kernel and JT moving all his mods to ROOTZWIKI.

yeah I think some of the devs are getting fed up with the way the site is run, moderated, or just general dislike of the sometimes rude people here... Rootzwiki is not bad, almost exactly like XDA in the way it looks and operates... I signed up over there and check both forums as it seems you are right and little by little more is only being posted over there
interesting. will have to sign up for an account there too.
thanks, OP.
Edit:
btw, what are some things about XDA that's upsetting Dev's?
There is way more activity here though. People tell it like is here and some may construe that as rude.

That's not how Google works -- you can't pay them to rank higher (or even rank at all) in search results. XDA may pay for sponsored links (AdWords) next to the search results, but I'm not even sure they do that as in countless ROM-related searches I've never seen an XDA ad.

I'll create a (not so short) list of reasons why people are leaving
New people asking questions that have been asked 500 times
People not reading threads for known issues/problems/etc.
People not searching before asking/posting
Rude people (not just "telling it how it is" either)
Know it all types that really know nothing
People not following
Lack of moderation
Unfair moderation
Inconsistent moderation with regards to rules
Sense of entitlement among users (goes back to rude people)
I'm sure there are other reasons as well. As for XDA paying for Google rankings, they may not directly, but indirectly, pages that get traffic get higher rankings in search results. And also, a site's age/reputation factors into it as well.
RootzWiki is new, and with most forums I've been to for phones, people will wait to see what the better forum is, then go there. With most devices being released already before RootzWiki started, communities have already developed elsewhere. As new phones come out, where people are posting could quite easily change. And so far, RootzWiki has a much more consistent moderation approach, as well as developer friendly environment.

I'm still using one of your early non-voodoo pbj kernels (along with your modified cwm). Stock EE4. Even at that time, the instruction & comment thread was quite large, with lots of feedback, problems, advice, & fixes. I know you devs are really good at updating the first post of the thread, but the following sentence still applies, especially for newbies.
It is therefore important to read entire threads!
Of course, this is where the problems start for the new folks (re impatient). Then come questions on clarifications. True, I've seen you answer the same question many times.
I can't relate to the "entitlement mentality" of some users.
I read a lot of yours (& kejar's) writings. Truly enjoy it.
I follow the forums with the most traffic. More traffic = more knowledge for me. (selfish bast. . .)
Sorry your experience here is turning sour. I'll not contribute to the apples.
Thanks for all of your hard work, devotion, & yes, patience.
Chris
personally i post everything i do on both xda and rootz
in the beginning i wasnt entirely in support of yet another forum. but they do a lot over there and as new phones come out (especially verizon ones) id imagine the communities will be larger and larger there versus xda
having said that, im surprised xda hasnt shut down this thread yet because apparently speaking of other forums isnt allowed
whereas rootz will let you post xda links and discuss whatever u want (even to their own detriment) regardless
I will add a few reasons that are not mentioned already
1... At Rootz, the site owners are appreciable and friends with many of the devs... They are also strong supporters of developers
2... The allow subforums.. this is important as once you get a subforum, you as the dev/owner of that subform can moderate yourself....
I remember back in the windows mobile Touch Pro 2 days PPCGeeks was the place to be for Sprint/Verizon Roms, so it's definitely possible for development communities to shift to a different website. If enough big developers used Rootzwiki exclusively, I think everyone would follow them. People go wherever the developers go. Rootzwiki giving out free phones to developers is also pretty cool...

Had you bothered to do ANY reading or took 10 seconds to search, you would have found your answer. Maybe you can get where I'm going with this, but judging by the fact that you didn't look through any other forums, posted in the wrong place, and didn't search, I'm going to guess you won't. It's a good thing stupidity isn't contagious...

Now why would I bother to read, search, or try to post in the correct forum when I could simply click "new thread" and type in whatever question I have, and get the answers from an entire community of people? Seems much easier to have everyone else do the work for me. Right?
I love you guys.

The best thing about xda...you can re-live middle school with all the finger pointing and blasting of people.....too many know it all kids
So much for XDA being a place to learn. Guess if you don't already know you're on you're own! Good attitude guys!
To answer the OP, CM 7.1 was recently released out of release candidate status. The charge however is not on the supported list yet. There's still a lot of work to be done before it's ready to be loaded on anyone's phone. Hang in there. There's a good amount of other ROM's currently available for the Charge though that are worth looking into. (Humblecomb, GummyCharged, DCTQ to name a few)

There are literally two new threads about this a week. You don't even have to search. Just look in the Q&A forum and click back one or twice. Hell...you don't even have to do that right now. There's one started two days ago that is the first non-sticky post on the first page as I type this.
Asking questions is fine, but we have community guidelines, FAQ's, and search buttons for a reason.
The first response answered the question. (And mentioned the fact that this is the wrong forum for Q&A)
Maybe all the mini-mods should just hit the report button and let the real moderators do their job instead of posting a bunch of useless crap. If you don't want to see the useless posts maybe replying and putting them back at the top of the forum is not such a good idea.
Questions or Problems Should Not Be Posted in the Development Forum
Please Post in the Correct Forums and Read THIS
Moving to Q&A
Last time I checked cm7 is development just about everything is a question posted on here and if I knew what to search for I would didn't know people got their panties all in a bunch over the wrong forum topic but I appreciate the response that was helpful Thanx a lot

I was in agreement that most of the responses were uncalled for until the OP responded. It's difficult to feel bad when that attitude is taken towards people that actually contribute to the forum.

CM7 is development. Your question about CM7 is not development. Your question is a question. If you would like to know what you should type in the search to find out about CM7, first try "CM7". I am sorry the developers and mods who spend their time making our phones awesome and maintaining the forums were not nicer to you when you posted a question in the development forum after not reading a single forum guideline. I'm sure they're sorry. Hope this helped.

Maybe I was rude, but I went and typed in CM7 in the search box for just the DROID Charge forums (all of them) and came up with 12 topics. Searching for cyanogenmod came up with 5 topics. I could also search either of those items with droid charge added to them in Google, Yahoo, or Bing, and end up with the most relevant info being on the first page of results too. Seeing that any one of those options would have taken less time than it took you to create this thread, which was initially in the incorrect forum, maybe you can see why people responded the way they did. Why should anyone else put forth any effort when you couldn't take 30 seconds to even begin to search on your own?
All questions like this should automatically spam the OP with PMs of LMGTFY links.
It's really quite ridiculous.
Honestly, if you're not smart enough to form a relatively basic search like so many people have laid out here in this and other related threads (oh so many threads), then you really shouldn't be attempting to do something so complicated as loading unsupported OS builds onto your phone.

BTW... We have a wiki here on xda...

Just wanted to inform everyone that we do have a wiki, and if we work together to update this, it would be an easy link to drop for newbies needing help.
If you post something on the wiki and it gets removed or modified to your disliking, please check the history of changes (at the top) and pm the person responsible instead of making ugly comments in the wiki itself.

Thanks for that, I had no idea it existed.

I found the wiki a while ago, but could never navigate from the main wiki to the sgs4g wiki without using google to find it.

That link didn't have the SGH-T959V until I updated it a week ago. Pretty weird, huh?
