Interesting Article - T-Mobile LG G2x

http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-Optimus-2X-random-reboot-freeze-bug-fixed_id18887
LG has fixed the Optimus 2x because of the unity the owners have exhibited.
I've started a Facebook group http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_131963376878943
We should definitely create a petition. Unfortunately, I don't have too much time to put it all together and send it to LG...
If you have issues and want to see things get done about it lets do something about it

Power of Twitter and the 2.0.1 update.

It seems that a lot of companies are really taking advantage of twitter to communicate with customers at large. Some examples are Verizon and HTC announcing the Eris OS update, Sprint has announced items via twitter. Lot's of people follow these companies and I am sure that these companies search twitter for references to there name.
So I propose that we use the power of twitter to send a clear message to Sprint that we would like an Android 2.0.1 update and that we would like some sort of news confirming it. We don't need exact deadlines but just knowing that it's coming would be great news for the community. It would also benefit Sprint in the long run because potential and current customers would have a little bit more faith in buying a Hero at 179.99 knowing that it will be getting an update.
I am going to post this to a few other Sprint/Hero related forums. Everyone can start twitting now or we can try to get some clear defined message written out that we can all retweet. Please post any thoughts, inputs or messages that you have twitted @Sprint.
My twitter ID is kennyidaho.
You do know that HTC announced we would be getting 2.x on Twitter about a month ago, right?
http://twitter.com/htc/statuses/5243593307
Flipz beat me to it.
I was googling for the article where HTC Confirmed it. They wouldn't bother with the update for CDMA Hero if Sprint wasn't going to give it to us. It costs them too much money to build an OS/Rom for a phone just in case Sprint ever asks for it.
Yes but nobody knows for sure if this applies to CDMA Hero's (we do know that it applies to GSM Hero's because of the leaked ROM - is there any proof a CDMA rom has been created?). HTC control's the update process on GMS Hero's, however Sprint has to request and push an update to Sprint Hero's. HTC is primarily a GSM manufacture and will cater to those devices first.
Assuming that HTC's announcement regarding Android 2.0 applies to carrier branded devices is as naive as assuming that the successor to the Hero (to be announced in February) applies to Sprints Hero.
Trust me I would like to hope it's true. Having Sprint and HTC devices in the past I know that just because HTC updates it's GSM equivalent it does not always indicate CDMA devices will receive the update (or will be updated in a timely manner).
Well if its been confirmed well what's the harm of twittering Sprint
No harm...
Just seems like a waste, one way or another we will have a 2.1 update.

Myself and I am sure many others grow tired of the waiting game with these devices. In the end the main goal really is to see sprint open up a little bit.
If Sprint has ordered the update, if it's in testing and is slated to be released sometime first quarter 2010 then what's the harm in telling us? Verizon can notify it's customers that their Droid Eris, which is basically the same phone as the Hero, is getting updated - Sprint can take that risk too!
Right now Verizon is blitzing the media with Droid this Droid that, update this update that. What's sprint doing? A 5 second mention on a commercial also advertising the Pre and Tour?

just saying, in the time it took you to type that out and post it here, you could just as easily have tweeted something to sprint about getting the update.
how are you so absolutely positive that we'll get it? do you know something the rest of us don't?
all i'm saying is that it's not a waste to tell them what you want, whether or not you already know you're going to get it.
I agree totaly. We make huge investments in these devices, especially those of us who don't get them by signing a new contract. Personally I have to have the coolest gadget on the market, its my kryptonite. To that note also, Sprint does have the best service converage and price in my area. So I can't afford necessarrily to go else where. Damned if you do Damned if you don't. We are at the mercy of the phone company and until we get the portablity openness in the U.S. that our European counterparts have, we are stuck with what we get.
That being said, the Devs on this forum and else where make the phone what its worth, not Sprint. Luckily in our case, "There is always someone smarter than you". Meaning Sprint can hold out all they want, we will get ours eventually. I am sure we can yell and scream and cause a fuss, but I don't see the merit behind it. Kind of like getting upset with the Customer Serivce reps at sprint when we call to ask the status of the update, you can yell at them all day long and nothing will get accomplished other than making them pissed and ruining their day.
Just Twitter don't be upset just ask nicely, what id they respond back with next week. Then the debate can hold off on thief build and relax
Gah, I even went out and made a twitter account for you guys. Now knowing I have a twitter account gives me the chills... I feel like a 'myspace' person now.

Hey Twitter is nothing like having a MySpace account, granted most people mis use by updating about nothing. I follow cnn, some journalist that I like and some online stores and ESPN plus a couple sports teams. Which has Me do less surfing cause all the info comes straight to me
If u decide to give Twitter a try may I suggest if you find someone intresting follow them and check out who they are following
I don't see any harm in this... I'm going to twitter Sprint here in a few
I was being slightly facetious.
Well HTC posted a response nothing from sprint

Campaign Viewsonic for better support.

After reading the the 12 pages over in Viewsonic's Facebook Discussion section on the gTablet support, I came away with the idea that what we need is a single united voice to get Viewsonic attention.
facebook.com/topic.php?uid=58738271675&topic=18712
While many has already blog, tweet and post in forums to show how unhappy they are with the way Viewsonic has treated the gTablet, a single united campaign will hopefully get the attention of online (and maybe offline) media. This would lead to positive PR for the gTablet hardware and negative PR for the company. Hopefully, it will show them the true popularity of the device and get them to reconsider abandoning it for something newer.
I've created a Facebook page to get us started.
facebook.com/pages/Viewsonic-gTablet-Owners-Unite/115515855214154
I welcome any input, help, advise, suggestion etc..
A small update.
Almost a week have pass since the launch of the Viewsonic gTablet Onwers Unite Facebook page and we have nearly 40 people responded. It's a great start but we need more people. Please Like the page if you have not already done so and share it with anyone you know who own a gTablet or looking to get one.
Our goal is NOT to discourage people from buying the gTablet as more units sold translate to a bigger user base. If nothing else, the popularity (=sale figure) would be the one thing Viewsonic cannot ignore.
Join us @
facebook.com/gTabletOwners
they wont give a rat crap about you. The only way they will listen is to get the general public attention.
Spike, that is the purpose of the Facebook page. It require minimal commitment from people. All they have to do is click the Like button. People who wish to be more involve and post and spread the words etc..
And we have 91 members now.
Anyway, last night it came to that while many have said that the only way for Viewsonic to listen is hit them where it hurt the most, through their sales. So I've started a companion page to Viewsonic gTablet Owners Unite called I Switched from Viewsonic. This page is to help register the people who are boycotting the Viewsonic brand. To get all those statements in the same place instead of spreading all over the Internet. Once again, the aim is show strength in numbers.
Before anyone ask, Yes, you can continue to use your current Viewsonic product(s) as long as you have made a purchase of a different brand because of a previous bad experience with Viewsonic.
facebook.com/pages/I-Switched-from-Viewsonic/266914796653802
Time for a little viral marketing.
We are about to hit the 100 members mark sometime this week. To celebrate, I think it would be a great opportunity to do a big (viral) marketing push.
If the Facebook study I have read is true, the average person on Facebook has about 10-20 people on their friends list. My suggestion is for everyone to take a minute to hit the Share button on the bottom left of the Facebook page to post it on their Wall. That would give us a minimum of 1000+ more pair of eye balls seeing the message. Some of them might be gTablet owners or know someone who does. But our real aim is to bring to their attention our cause and at the same time spread negative publicity for Viewsonic to another 1000 people who might in turn share it with more of their friends. With some luck, we might just reach that critical mass that will attract Viewsonic attention.
Make sure to include a message along the line of:
"I own a Viewsonic gTablet and I need your help. Viewsonic has abandon this device after only 3 months of support. Now they are killing it by refusing to provide the necessary driver so the community developers can continue to update it. Please share this with all your friends so we can warn as many people as possible about Viewsonic dodgy business practice."
facebook.com/gTabletOwners
just posted it on the FB support page. lets see if it stays up.

I understand where you are coming from, but asking a corporation to support a commercial failure is most likely falling on deaf ears. Just ask those people who bought Touchpads. Viewsonic doesn't make their money from people like us.

Yes they do.
Fact Most happy consumers have no voice, It's not that they do not have one its more like they have no use or want to be bothered with it.
Upset people have a voice and use it.
So if I was a consumer that was looking for a good product, and search the web for a viewsonic tablet review I will find peoples likes and dislikes.
So if the upset customers (US) make noise, it will hurt their bottom line. I would not want to buy a device that is dropped from support and has bad things said about it.
I as a web guy would have done this a little different.
Create a facebook page for people to like and post their thoughts.
Create a twitter account and link it to the facebook page
Start going to the review sites you find in google searches and post your review with a link to your facebook page.
Heck you could even post on review sites for other viewsonic products (LCD's etc...) stating that you have owned and after the tablet mess, you will never buy again and so on.
I know VS is probably reading this and thinking "Shut up already, we do not need more trouble", but VS it's your fault and only you can fix the problem.
One thing I have learned in the last few years in tech, is never mess with the tech geeks as their numbers can kill you.
BTW, I liked both pages. No more VS for me! and I will spread the word.
PS. PM me if you need anything.
copc, thank you for you support.
I consider myself a thinker, not a leader. It takes a while for my brain to to digest and come up with new ideas. So I really appreciate yours and others help with keeping this project alive. I'm going to ask Roebeet and Living Enzyme if they would like to be Admin on the page or recommend someone who would be a good candidate. We really need a few more people to keep the page alive.
Anyone want to take a stab at making a viral video?

Sick of the LG - Nvidia ICS driver issues...

Ok so we all know LG and Nvidia is not providing drivers for our phone...
Hence partially complete ICS roms with no camera or video....
Why dont we petition LG and Nvidia to release these drivers or release ICS for the G2x... If enough of us come together we might be able to get this done???
Ive seen some posts about a 2nd quarter release for ICS for the p990 and then waiting for a port of that for the p999 but it sounds like speculation...
lets see what the collective minds of XDA have to say about this....
MODERATOR PLEASE STEP IN FOR ONCE combine this thread with the two others that we already have, pertaining to the "petition" matter...

LG has NO CONTROL whatsoever of what Nvidia does or doesn't do.
If you're going to bother anyone, bother Nvidia. Be smart, do some research, and stop wasting LG's time with what they can't do.

This may be True, but Nvidia has to get the drivers to LG before they can get them to us.
WE WONT GET THEM STFU ALREADY.
If you want full ICS, buy a phone running it. If you can't afford it/dont want it, beggars can't be choosers. Srs.

This is the problem with people now these days. You people just allow THE MAN to f*ck and you guys just bend down and take it. Fight for your rights and as a consumer you deserve to have support of a product at least for a miserable year. The people just accepting the fact that we won't get ics are the same ones that will allow banks and government to manipulate and decide what's going to happen to them. This is a great example of what's wrong with this world now these days. You guys get ****ted on by people with power and you guys gladly bathe in it. Its amazing. That may very well be the case, but we can't do anything until LG doesn't make on theie word! They have publicly come out and said they plan on proving the update to these phones and I quote: "Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE." They have mentioned the Optimus 2X series in a post before, but I cannot find nor do I choose to do the searching for all of you. I did find this before and it has been posted before.
https://www.facebook.com/notes/lg-m...40-ice-cream-sandwich-upgrade/316431148368212
I have also commented on one their post on Facebook and they relied to me saying they "plan on releasing an ICS update to the G2X sometime in the 2nd quarter" I have posted the screenshot somewhere on these forums of the statement they said to me.
Basically take a chill pill and try to not let the phone community make you sick to your stomach, and if you want, keep posting things on here that make me laugh.

You bought a phone, by buying that phone lg and nvidia promises to update it and keep it functional. Last i checked they did this. It was updated from Froyo to gb and using a stock gb ROM everything works. Stop demanding **** from these companies.
If you buy a cake and you like it, do you demand that the chef give you his recipe!?
If you buy a car do you demand that they give you a new engine every 6 months so that your car is as good as the new ones???
The phone works fine on gb, and aside from looks, ics adds very little at this point. Stop *****ing, they don't owe you anything!
if you ask me, they don't need to update any further, but it looks like they will. Yes, for NO EXTRA MONETARY GAIN a company will put time and effort into making a product (which is now past its scheduled EOL) better than it was ever meant to be.

On the contrary, it's people like you that think everything is worth blowing up over that's sickening.
I hardly doubt that not caring about some f'in phone software, that the company has every right not to release, has anything to do with people letting the government do anything.
It's an issue that probably less than 1% of the phones owners care about. If it bothered you so much you should have exercised your consumer rights and returned the phone immediately and got something else. That would have shown LG/NVIDIA you mean business.
Stop the hyperbole please.

Did you miss this being open source? Or what open source is about?
In your analogy it would be a community recipe. And it would be like a chef not letting people in on his input.
The whole point is growth through the community. LG views the open source community as a burden instead of utilizing us as an asset.

Android is open source, not the drivers for tegra 2, nor any modifications that nvidia or lg made to it.
Nvidia has released everything they were required to, as did lg.
As for everything else, they have every right to keep those to themselves.
It's not just my opinion, it's googles.
And to your last part, yes they do see open source as bad for them, (and partly they should). They spent lots of time and money developing this phone, and it's bad for business if someone can just take it all and give it away for free.

If the HAL took a single line from aosp to make they are violating open source agreements by not releasing it.
Beyond that if it shares no code they are still violating the spirit of open source by not sharing. They recieve the benifit of open source with every device they sell. They are supposed to contribute back. At least provide what's needed to make your hardware work.
They found a loophole to be able to keep benifiting from others code but keep what they make proprietary. Way back when these leechers would be blackballed.
I went to the microsoft store and traded in my mytouch 3G for a new samsung focus s, screw LG.
Using gingerbread is like going back to old windows. Using ICS on G2X is like using windows 7 without graphics driver. Time for a proper ICS device.

Good news ??

I was checking Gizmodo when I found this link. Seems LG suck everywhere since they didn't sell many WP7 mobiles, so they decided to halt WP7 development which means we got more free developers on our side from now. I just hope that they don't focus on new devices and focus more on the unfinished products they have.
What I think is now is the right time to spam their FB page and all other mails/branches with the ghost call issue hoping the would put it on their road plan.

I dont think that's good news, they dropped supporting on those phones meaning they can drop support on O3D as well. They just want to churn out useless phones with no regards for customers from previous phones.
Regarding FB spamming been doing that with many others since last few months and only got 2 response from tons of msgs left there. SO they dont care.
Lastly i'm trying to get rid of my o3d to get the samsung galaxy SIII when it comes out. Was gonna go for HTC one X but checking their forum shows many issues of poor quality built on that phone as well.
Guess right now my iphone 4 is the best device i can have

Yes, look at nokia they kept dumping products on customers. We, N900 owners were left unsupported within months of launching their flagship N900. They dropped the ball on that phone and only the community was making software for it. I'm glad nokia is in deep $hit.
I hope LG gets what's its due to them soon.
BTW i wouldn't recommend HTC especially after reading topics in ONE X forums. I was planning on going that route myself but seems the quality is bad on that phone. If you're lucky you'll get few problems at start. Many have already returned and got new sets, some even multiple times. There is a thread about returning / replacing phones and it's 27pages already. Some are replacing it and some are getting refunds for the Flagship HTC one X phone.
Galaxy siii is looking to be the one for me

[PETITON LIVE]Join the HTC source movement!!

Hey guys, from what ive heard, this phone has pretty much gotten the shaft from htc when it comes to source code releases. well its happening on the evo lte and happened on the original evo (both of which i had) and am now starting a movement here to try to get them to change their ways as far as source releases go and try to get them to release them in a timely manner. this is similar to when all the evo 3d owners started complaining and finally got them to do the bootloader unlock tool. while the tool is ehh, at least its something so we are going to try for source. i have started a thread with all of their contacts (facebook twitter email) for htc, htcusa, and htcdev and am going to post any good info people supply in the op so others can reference it when they contact them.

Everyone please join in an spread the word among other forums. the more htc users we get to join us the better chance we have of making a difference.
