[Q] Help - Phone's virtual keys "shifted" down - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I'm on a Topaz with WinMo 6.5 Hebrew enabled but English interface.
Lately the number keys in the phone application are shifted one row down. I mean' when I press a number, the phone thinks I pressed the number one row below that. (i.e. If I press the place showing 5, an 8 will be dialed)
Oddly the "TALK" button and the "backspace" arrow button next to it do function normally, as does the whole screen in any other application.
My verbal explanation is not so clear, so please see the attachment. A screenshot with explanatory text.
Any idea what could have caused this? or how to fix it?
I was thinking about removing and re-installing the phone application, but don;t know how to do that, so any help in that direction would also be welcome.
Thanks!
~Azaria.

What is the right forum for this question?
It really bothers me, so really want to solve it.

Incoming call notification box problem

Hey guys,
I'm clearly a newbie here, been so for sumtime trying to learn while looking for tweaks and solutions, and I've been trying not to post so that I don't stupidly ask answered questions but unfortunately I have a problem that I need urgent fix. I've tried to search but haven't found what I need.
So here it is:
When I receive calls, the caller id and number seemed to be crunched together and unreadable under 1 line instead of usual 3 or 4. So I cant see who is calling me or from which number. This is rather important for my business to decide who to ignore and who to address properly.
I hope somebody can help me fix this.
For added info, I have made few registry changes and the last ones involve changing soft keys 112 and 113, and also installing HTC action screen before this problem.
Thanks guys!
I've never heard of this problem occuring, but I would recommend you skip stright to it and hard reset your PDA.
Backup all your files by connecting your PDA to your computer and copying over all the files you want to backup.
To backup all your PIM data (appointments, contacts, messages, call logs, speed dials and tasks) use a program called PIM Backup - details of this program can be found on this thread - Click Here
To hard reset a HTC Polaris, insert your stylus into the softreset hole and press it whilst pressing the 'Windows' and 'OK' buttons. Let go of the buttons 1-2 seconds after taking out the stylus. The send button is the green pickup call button, which you will be required to press to confirm you want to go ahead with the hard reset.
Hope this helps
I was hoping I didn't need to resort to that but I guess if that's the quickest easiest way.
Thanks for your help!!
Btw, which buttons do you mean by "windows button" and "Ok button" ??
Sorry thats the only thing I can advise you to do, but at least you will know that its probably the second best thing to do (apart from re-flashing the ROM).
Regarding the 'Windows' and 'OK' buttons, it is my bad that you probably cannot find them - the XDA Orbit 2 has these buttons, but the HTC Polaris has the 'GPS' and 'Internet Explorer' buttons instead. Basically, they are the two buttons under the pickup and hangup buttons.
Attached is a picture which may help you further.
Hope you get this problem sorted out.

How to change input method easier?

i found sometimes it is very hard to bring out the input selection menu by touching the small arrow on bottom of the screen... Not sure it is problem of my device or not. but as i said, when i need to change input method i have to touch the arrow several time to see the selection menu. so i'm wondering if there's a shortcut key for change input method?
yes i have the same confuse
why all the arrow button is so small in wm OS
iphone's touch button is big ,so i can use my hand easy
wm should learn iphone
Are you specifically talking about the unresponsiveness - lag when you hit that small button. Takes about 5 secs to bring the menu up? I heard there was a registry fix for it some where but never tried it. You can search for it.
If you are talking about the button being small and hard to hit, then I don't know how to help you there. Perhaps you can link a command to pop open that menu and then map that command to a hardware button? Do you switch SIPs a lot?
yes, it is the unresponse, it is frustrating...
i 'll search for the registry fix.
In that case here's one thread that mentions a registry fix for it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=301433
Read through it, try it and post your results if it works or not. Note one user mentioned they had to HR, so backup just in case.
thank you hambola, it really works. that registry fix is like a magic

Disable Keypress "Preview" As You Type

I've disabled all of the auto-correct and suggestion SIP options on the TP and that works great, HOWEVER (heh, heh)...
Is there any way to turn off that annoying "what-you're-typing-preview" that always appears on-screen as you type? It is such a waste of screen real estate.
Do you know what I mean? I'll explain...
For example:
Code:
PREVIEW STYLE 1
1. Start a new text message.
2. Pop out your physical keyboard
3. Start typing!
You will see what you type appear in a little "preview window" at the bottom of your screen.
Now here's the REALLY annoying one...
Code:
PREVIEW STYLE 2
1. Open an existing SMS message (threaded view)
2. Pop out your physical keyboard
3. Start typing...
You will see the preview appear *above* your text this time. Even MORE annoying since it's taking up real estate in the typing area this time around.
I've been scrounging for a solution to this and really hope one exists.
Thanks for everything, guys!
press ctrl + space and choose abc
Thank-you VERY MUCH, Brendo!
I thought that I had already done this but I realize now that it was probably in my dreams.
(YES -- I dream about my TP -- don't lie -- YOU DO, TOO!!!).
Lol.
Take care.
Hi Guys, probably very silly of me, but 'choose abc'. Do we have a 'abc' button? I can't seem to find out what you mean with this. Also pressing cntrl + space and typing abc does nothing (obviously). Help me. I also find the typing preview window quite annoying, especially since I have been so happy to be able to turn the auto correct options off.
It can be found on the SIP - pop up keyboard, providing you have "full keyboard", phone keyboard etc selected and not the windows default keyboard. You will see a button marked ABC->T9. Make sure T9 is not selected.
Gee thnx ardsar, this was clear and worked. Indeed I had to change the layout of my pop up keyboard, as I hardly ever use it and had it in the default keyboard mode.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU (yes, I'm shouting )
If there was anything that pissed me off on this phone, it was the goddamn useless preview!
Why do they expect that you're a retard, if you bought HTC phone? I thought these phones were for smart people
That's kool that it will take the dialog away but while I'm in programs it still types the letters in the background and causes them to skip. Is there any way to disable the typing of keys in the background while still reading the keystrokes. Let's say I'm using PocketNES while I'm in the game it reads the hardware keyboard as typing letters when I'm not trying to type any message. I would just like to use the letters as buttons instead. Hopefully someone has found a solution to the problem!

Request Help - SIP Question

Hi,
I am just new to this pocket PC phone (just the old HTC Touch) and i tried out installing an IP Phone Keyboard program. When I wasnt happy about it, i uninstalled it but it messed up my SIP. The default standard input keyboard now is cut at the bottom (meaning i dont see the entire last row of Ctrl, space bar, etc.) but there's a black row appearing at the top of the input keyboard. It looks like the input keyboard was dragged down. Worse, the suggested words now appear at the bottom of the screen (where your normal Send or Cancel buttons are).
I really would appreciate your advise and help in getting this resolved. Dont know where to run to or whom to raise this to.
Thank you and looking forward to your response.

Click to collapse
Restart your PPC. After that go to settings--> input---> select default input keyboard and try.
Hope it will help.
Are you using the default keyboard?
You can install any other SIP and it should work fine even if the default keyboard's having problems.
You can also hard reset incase you don't manage anything else.
I'm not aware of a bug concerning the default keyboard showing wrong except for something which goes away after a soft reset.
Thanks very much for your responses. Unfortunately, I did all that (set keyboard as default, try installing another keyboard software, soft reset and hard reset) but the problem still persists. I am almost in the vicinity of regretting why i had this PPC.
can you specify exactly which app caused this problem?

Start Menu Shortcut Question

First of all, sorry if it's been discussed before, I'm new to the forum...
My Idea is: is it possible to somehow remove the "start" shortcut from the upper left corner of every screen, maybe even replace it with something useful or just a clock, but it's seriously bugging me. When I hand over the phone to almost any friend it gets pressed somehow and having in mind that one of the five only hardware buttons is designated start menu the soft shortcut is completely obsolete, at least that's what I think...
Thanks in advance!!
