Start Menu Shortcut Question - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

First of all, sorry if it's been discussed before, I'm new to the forum...
My Idea is: is it possible to somehow remove the "start" shortcut from the upper left corner of every screen, maybe even replace it with something useful or just a clock, but it's seriously bugging me. When I hand over the phone to almost any friend it gets pressed somehow and having in mind that one of the five only hardware buttons is designated start menu the soft shortcut is completely obsolete, at least that's what I think...
Thanks in advance!!

Single press device Lock

Folks, any idea how to switch off the screen / lock the keyboard without the need of double press the red power button?
This is kind of bothering cause when you're in a application and need quickly to put your Treo into your pocket, you need to press 1st to get to the home-screen and 2nd to switch off.
Yeah, seems to be something new with the 750 (no other treo before did this). Palm set this up purposely, so I wouldn't assume there's a workaround for it. You'll get used to double clicking
Not that I know
I have used it for ages and found many shortcuts but no "quick lock".
Sorry
How about getting an application that device locks your phone upon return from standby? I use BatteryStatus Today Plugin by Chi Tai Dang.. This plugin has the option to lock device on wakeup and set cpu speed(I use this a lot)..
But mine's a wizard, what do I know about Treo.. but what I do now is, press the power button to get the phone to go into standby and when I want to use it again, I press the power button and it will device lock upon wake up.
I don't have a Treo. How do you initiate said keyboard lock normally?

"Device lock" that you may know of isn't used on Treo's. Palm uses their own "keyguard," which uses the red END button as a power button when not on the phone. If you are on the today screen, one click will shut the device off. However, if you are in another program, the first tap brings you to the today screen, and the second click turns the screen off (and the keyguard on if you have selected it to be that way). On all other treo's, WM or POS, one click of the end button would shut the screen off (unless you were on the phone obviously, it would be the END function), regardless of what program you were in. Palm changed this, I assume, to be like most cell phones, where when you press the END key it returns to the home screen, regardless of what you were doing. Like a RAZR would do.
Thats the best way I can explain it. You would be surprised Vijay on how many customizations Palm made to the OS.
Yes, I've heard that they did - thank Goodness one of the OEMs finally saw fit to do something original.
Hmm.. from what you describe, clicking twice doesn't seem like a very big chore... I did something similar in VJOkButt. Is it really necessary to convert the 2 clicks to 1 click? Investigating it barely seems worth the effort

I agree, hence my original post.
When you are on the today screen, it works normally. And you can double-click quite rapidly and it will work. Not a big deal for me.
yes guys, its not that dramatical, but still, it would be an improvement also considering that I want to stay in that one application (a note which I'm editing) and want to get there after waking up the device again without the need of again starting application, look for the last note, opening etc...
with HTC hermes and others the power button works exactly like this and its even better.
Hi all,
If you're using it two handed hold option (the white key, left hand end of row 3) and press the red button once - closes the app and powers off.
But you need an odd-shaped hand to do that one handed!
It is not that the double click isn't easy to do, it's waht fire00 said; if you are in an app, it closes it and then powers off. Case in point, this weekend while driving to a friend's house, I had directions in my email and would have liked to have turned off the phone, but then I would have to find the email again and open it up. On my Wizard, i would just turn it off and then back on and the email would be there for me.
Gotta be a reg hack for someone to find.

On my device, that method doesn't close the app. It just locks the keyboard and then powers off. When I power on again, the app is still running and on screen. I think that's what fire00 was looking for.

Sorry PJC ACE, my mis-type - using option + red button powers the device off WITHOUT closing the app - just like the power button on the Wizard ;-)
My apologies!
GUYS YOU'RE ABSOLUTE TREO-EXPERTS !!!!!
thanks a lot, going to dance with the Treo cause I'm so haaapyyy !! )))

Option (hold)+Red Phone button is a nice alternative, but I'd really like to find a way to prevent the Red Phone from reverting to the Today screen, so I can power off directly with it with one press...Vodafone's excuse for specifically asking for it this way (every other phone's "End" button brings you back to the "home" screen) is ridiculous, these aren't like every other phone.
I installed HTC home plugin and now my red button wont let me go into standby. I uninstalled and still not working. Any ideas?
Side Button + Suspend
There is a thread at TreoCentral that explaines how to activate the side button and make it available for button assignment in the settings screen.
Second there is a small program called suspend.
I have mapped the 1 press of the side button to suspend and away we go.
1 - Click keyguards/screen off.
Also it resume in the place or program you left when you unlock it.

How about a back gesture?

I appologize if its already on here somewhere but I didn't find much on it. what I think would make the G1 much nicer to use would be a back gesture rather then having to reach down to the back button all the time. u know slide your thumb from right to the left when ur in an app and it would be the same as streching your thumb all the way down to the back button. If someone could either tell me how to set gestures or make something quick and simple to do it I think it would be much nicer to use and I would appriciate it much.
This forum is great and helped me tons on my universal so naturally I'm turning here for help first. I have a feeling by the end of the year Android will be killin the iphone! Turns out its not the phone, its the OS... lol..
The G1 does that to a certain extent but what you are talking about would require a lot of codding in the OS, I don`t think it would be a simple task. But if you are a coder and want to do this, I`m sure other people can offer you some assitance, JF would be one of them for sure. Cheers!

Possibly the only space the operating system reserves for its own input detection is the notification bar. I imagine it might be possible to add some kind of swipe detection to that. However considering how narrow that space is, I don't see how it would be any better than just clicking the back button.
As for the system detecting swipes on the whole lcd, that's probably a non-starter. It would break the touch user interface of many apps.
Currently there are two ways to bring up the programs tab - dragging the tab up and a short press on the tab itself. It *may* be possible to change the function of the short press to 'back' but I think that may cause a lot of inadvertent 'back' presses...

I think what svxdriver wants is for a leftward swipe to be universally recognized as a backstep, meaning not just on the Launcher screen but in all applications.
Not sure how well that would work. The o/s would need to distinguish between a swipe and just scrolling across the screen. Easier, I think, to just use the back button.

well it doesn't have a hard time distinguishing between moving up on a page and when you drag from the top of the screen to pull the notification bar down. in windows mobile I had a program that I could assign different gestures to do different things.. I thought it the same kind of thing would be handy.. but I wouldn't want it to go back cause I swiped, onlyl if I swipe from the edge of th screen to signify I want to go back..

Left and Right Keys...

Why is it so hard to push the left and right keys? they should have made it just like the up and down keys.
I want to play frogger and you just cant do it lol
Is there anyway around this?
I agree. It is SOO HARD
is there any way to "hard mod" it by like dremaling holes in the faceplate and just attaching little button nubs to the sensor? anyone tried this? i would rather it worked than looked pretty....seriously htc, what the heck.
just find the point between the home icon and phone icon an press it over and over on each side it really is a "sweet spot" as described in another thread. Once you get it it will come naturally, at least for me it did

I've had my Fuze since launch and it is still hit and miss. The bad thing is gaming, when you really rely on the buttons... you don't have time to look down and get the thumb placement 100% right. This is the problem.
What I would LOVE to see happen is to completely get rid of the Today and Back buttons, since I never use them anyway. The Red End key works as a Today button and I'm accustomed to using the X close button to minimize/close my apps.
With the Today and Back buttons disabled it would be much easier to use Left/Right because then you wouldn't have to worry about ending up at the today screen.
OR an even better solution would be to simply re-assign the Today and Back keys as softkeys (which could then be reassigned in the game's button mapping) or remap the hard keys to Left/Right for easy use. Either way it would work pretty well.
For the time being... I wonder if you could place a small circular sticker on the "correct" placement... thus fooling the sensor that every time it is pressed it "see's" the sticker thinking it is your thumb and triggers left/right actions.
OR if that doesn't work... what about finding the correct placement location and installing some kind of "dimple". Like a small half-bubble-like sticker that will enable you to "feel" where the correct spot is. This way when your playing, you could at least find the dimple, and press... all without looking.
Just a few ideas. I haven't tried any of them, so if anything works let me know.

I need help

2 quick questions, they might be something simple sorry but I dont know how to get this to work.
1) How do you unlock your phone without the stylus? I know if you hold the end call key for 3 secs it locks it but I want to unlock the phone without the stylus. I hate ejecting it so the power goes on and then I can slide my finger on the "Lock Icon" left or right to unlock the phone.
2) How do you change the "Lock" Icon mapping? By that I mean its located at the top and I would like to move it to the bottom or middle. Once somehow automatically it was located in the middle and then I rebooted my phone and it went back to the top again.
I don't understand question 1 are you saying you take the styles out to turn the phone on? why don't you use the power button at the top? Then use your finger when it turns on to unlock it. I will admit i don't use the lock fetcher
But i think i understand the second question to move it to the bottom, go to start/setting/today/Items this will have a list of "icons" you have on the main screen select the Device Lock and move it to the bottom of the list. this should move it to the bottom and you are done.
1) you can unlock your phone without pulling your stylus out. press the power button to turn the screen on and then press unlock on the bottom left softkey followed by the confirmation on the center right side of the screen.
on the otherhand what you're asking for is called S2U (slide to unlock) which is an app the mimicks the iphone's lock interface
2) what mapping are you talking about? on the tf3d where the app tab is at? if so, then you just move it by using diamond tf3d tweak OR manually deleting the app and relocating it to where you want it.
Cool thanks for the help on question 1 I didnt know that.
For question 2 the same thing, do you know when the phone is locked and you have that icon that you have to slide left or right so that you can access the main menu on your phone (has the time, contacts, view messages, email etc.). That little bar that reads slide and has a padlock icon in the middle of it. That little button I want to reallign it in the screen. It happened once but I didnt press or change anything for it to happen, it just did.
Bump .

[Q] Help - Phone's virtual keys "shifted" down

Hi,
I'm on a Topaz with WinMo 6.5 Hebrew enabled but English interface.
Lately the number keys in the phone application are shifted one row down. I mean' when I press a number, the phone thinks I pressed the number one row below that. (i.e. If I press the place showing 5, an 8 will be dialed)
Oddly the "TALK" button and the "backspace" arrow button next to it do function normally, as does the whole screen in any other application.
My verbal explanation is not so clear, so please see the attachment. A screenshot with explanatory text.
Any idea what could have caused this? or how to fix it?
I was thinking about removing and re-installing the phone application, but don;t know how to do that, so any help in that direction would also be welcome.
Thanks!
~Azaria.
What is the right forum for this question?
It really bothers me, so really want to solve it.
