Since alot of people hate on me. I guess its my turn.
This has been on like 9 forums. and twitter. But thanks for yet another post
Not to mention it doesn't fix the 4G issue, it fixes the 3g part of the 4G/3g issue.
You guys are right, I should've searched first. I'm sure a mod will close it soon.

I apologize if I put it in the wrong forum, but I didn't think that editing the build.prop file or regulating 4G speeds that AT&T hasn't "given" us access to yet was a general question.
Aside from that, is it possible?

So, you want to post in development? Ask yourself this:

If so, this is not the right place to post a new thread. Instead, use the SEARCH function to find a thread about your question. If that's not available, post your question in General.

Well no offense to anyone, but changing the build.prop of any phone to alter the dynamics of how to phone runs or behaves sounds like development to me...
Can it be done? Do you know how exactly it's done on the inspire?

Your missing what the dev section is for.
If someone had a custom Build.prop they wanted to share, that is a Dev post. Asking a question about development is not.
no, from what I've been tinkering with in the test settings (accessed with *#0011#) and pressing menu, back, selecting "network control", then "hspa cat control", I'm able to get better speeds on CAT 10 than CAT 14, but other's speeds may vary. (I know I'm a heavy user that uses over 15 to 20 GB per month too, so it may just be going through a CAT that I'm not throttled on too.... )
But with all above, I agree that this should be in General....
the inspire has hsupa disabled foe the att version with a line in build.prop. hsupa has been disabled on all att phone cept the iphone and the infuse. tere have been different meathods to disable it but is irrelevant because the infuse has it enabled. ther may be other settings to change but not to get even better speeds but I don't think it will be in build.prop or yield the same results.

wow i started messing with the diffrent CAT settings on my infuse and now i have gotten up to 5250 down on my speed test! before the most ive gotten was low 3000's. a friend of mine has a infuse 4g also but he has gotten up to 10,000 down! he usually averages 7-8k on speed tests. WHY????? he has had his phone since it came out i think.
Someone needs to build a CAT setting tester/optimizer!

No, AT&T has. HSPA+ is still 3G, even though AT&T calls it 4g. They may re-brand all the user-facing stuff to say 4G, but the phone's technical information that you aren't supposed to see will refer to it by its technical term, 3G.
if its not LTE , its not 4g Sorry to burst your bubble. I truely miss Tmobile when it comes to data. I would get around 6megs down all the time on "3g". I dont even get 3 most times with at&t and the upload is such horrible ****.

LTE isn't 4G either, if you want to lump HSPA+ into ' it's not 4G' category. LTE currently offers nothing remotely close to the original ITU specs.

I typically get 3-4 Mbps at work/home. Last week I was about 4 miles away, got 8.9Mbps. Another day I was about 5 miles further, got 5.5 Mbps. Depends on which tower you're on.
Yeah, I've noticed that too. I switched the CAT and got improvement at my office... Now just to check at home.

I'm new to this. I don't know whether it's just my phone or for others as well. For the stock messaging app that comes with OrDroid 7 and 8, regardless of the other versions: I've set the message preview to show only 1 line, but after I restart my phone or wait a couple hours, it will automatically change back to show 2 lines. But I go into settings, it still says show "1 line".
Message App > Menu > Settings > General > Message Preview
I don't know whether this is known bug or it's just me. Has any other experience this problem?
i have the same issue. this probably should be reported on the OrDroid thread.
also i have noticed that after setting the option to receive a delivery report for SMS/MMS, it will only work once, after you exit the messaging app, you'll need to set it again.

Yeah I would report it to the OrDroid post, but I do not have the 10 post requirement yet. I have 5. So I'm trying to make it up there. Or you can post it there, if you want to. And yeah, I've noticed that about the delivery report as well, but I usually don't use that. I just wanted to try and turn it off, but it just turned off. So I was fine with it.

Haha. Maybe. I mean it isn't that much of a big deal. I can live with the 2 line message preview, but I would prefer 1 line as well. But there are some people who are perfectionists, so I would assume they would mind. Hahaha. I don't mind being flamed, I guess. Since I am NEW to this rooting stuff anyway.
Ohh, one more question: Are you receiving weak signals? One or two bars only? I don't think I've seen my signalling bar higher than 3 bars...

my signal is great on ordroid, could be related to the coverage in your area.
also, if you'd want to try something out "needs a bit of tinkering", when you open your battery back cover, you see the gold metal contacts, and same on your battery cover, those should contact each other 100% once you close back your phone. some of those contacts might not come in good contact with the back cover over time, so just slightly (just slightly) push those contacts upward, to make a better contact with the cover. if that worked well, you'll find an instant change.....just slightly
if you can live with 2 bars only, and not causing trouble with calling, keep the phone as it is

I'm looking for two things starting this thread:
1. What device did you come from.
2. After loading up your apps, what do you think?
Very simple. Please stay on topic.
Thanks.
Droid incredible running CM7.
The messaging app is..... different. I'm also having a hard time getting used to the predictive keyboard. It's pissing me off that delivery notifications are triggering the vibrator. Also can't find a way to turn off the screen powering on once I get a text.
As far as other things I can't get notifications working properly or change led colors. I guess cm7 spoiled me.
The good thing Ian that this screen is AMAZING! Downside though is that different app sucking with its brightness...
Contact management is easy and painless. Facebook seems to work faster then normAl too. The camera is great as well.
However the phone feels way too light then what I'm used to and power button placement is making me rage. Also the volume rocker rocks like it's about to fall off.

Coming from OG Droid and Droid 2 (I say both because the OG just couldn't hold its own anymore, so I had to get the Droid 2 on ebay back in April to hold me until the S3).
Coming from those devices, this thing is amazing. I will probably do a full review video today or tomorrow, but I am not disappointed thus far.
One thing I do hate, and it will take some getting used to, is the power button on the side. I keep pressing the volume keys with it!

I don't have mine yet, but I'm also coming from an Incredible (god I will miss that phone). I think it will obviously take some getting used to, but ultimately, the side placement is better...
First, given the size of the phone, the button on the side may be much easier to reach when holding the phone with one hand. (I say "may" because, like i said, I don't have mine yet)
Second, sometimes with my Incredible, I'd accidentally hit the power button when putting the phone into my pocket. It seems a power button on the side would prevent that.
Thanks for the impressions, guys.
My phone arrives tomorrow, but I'm out of town, so I will not have it until either Saturday or Monday.
Maybe I can write up a little something after I get it. Honestly though, I'm sure I will immediately ditch the TouchWiz launcher and some of the stock apps in favor of third-party alternatives.
Just for reference, my device history has been:
iPhone 3G -> OG Droid -> Nexus One -> Droid 2 Global
So, I'm coming straight from the D2G (which occasionally gets rotated out with the OG Droid). So I'm used to stock Android for the most part, so we'll see how this goes.

Agreed. I know I don't have mine yet but after having an OG Inc and Rezound the side placed power button is a welcomed change. It's much easier to handle just like it is on the Gnex.
I played with one at the local T-Mo and man the GSIII is super light and very thin. I like that as well

I found a galaxy s 4g today, and I was wondering a few questions.
First off; I can't seem to get into the bootloader. When i hold Top + power it just keeps rebooting the device. Same thing with Bottom + power.
Also: Is there a way to super CID the device? Thank you.

(I'm not sure what "super CID" is though.)

Super Cid is basically unlocking it so you can use with other carriers.
There is an unlocker thread here somewhere as well, if that is not covered in the wiki. Basically, the SGS4G these days is
Flash a one-click Heimdall installer for root/recovery
Flash a ROM of your choice

i asked around if anyone lost a phone and no one said anything, and i know the school just uses it for their own good if they find it so no point.
I'd bet that the call log will reveal one or more contacts that will recognize the number if you call them.
The carrier also should be able to contact the owner if you give the phone number. Just dial 611 from the phone.
