Yeah I heard a few days ago that it was being extended, but didn't know until when exactly. Good to have a confirmation + date.

Followed the link which is just to the VZW twitter account and saw this...http://twitter.com/#!/VZWSupport/status/69445090493464577
So, more WiFI tether is sweet, but I don't like the sound of that. I'm going to say it's a bit of a bluff. How many stories have you heard of people unable to get a replacement be cause they rooted? I've never heard any.

As with other phones, if you're rooted, you still have the manufacturer's warranty through HTC.

Can anyone link to the details of the hotspot upgrade?

uh says who? Rooting/jailbreaking while legal, doesn't mean they have to warranty their product anymore, muchless verizon having to give you service anymore. Read the fine print, it is there, and has been posted in a couple dozen threads now.

It is not really sad. All the vendors that give dates and miss them, get crucified by blogs and forums.
By saying End of Year, they know they can't miss the date.
I don't blame them (Samsung). Most people have no idea of the level of effort involved in software development - they complain all the time about missed dates. So, instead of giving an optimistic date and being late, Samsung pushed it out far enough so that can't miss but it is still considered a reasonable amount of time.

They get paid Millions/Billions of Dollars to do things in a timely manner - Should we feel sorry for Poor Ole Samsung? What most people have no idea about is how to manage all that money.
These companies ESPECIALLY Samsung provide us more excuses than service, fixes, or reliability - They Really don't need any EXTRA excuses or help.

No, its like, "As soon as we're done with it and then after AT&T strips out half the goodies, then you can have it..."
LOL - the only "sad" thing about this is that DG will have a polished ROM with less bugs than the Samsung OTA by the time it's released.
I heard the sgs recuved the final version of 2.2
Captivate WooHoo. finally
Actually they released the source for sgs. We still need a binary before we can celebrate. I half expected Jan/Feb so if they can push OTA before the end of the year then that's great. I'm still running stock where I did a temporary rooting just to get the unlock code.

People often balk at the idea of online petitions, but nowadays, getting enough people to complain on Facebook and Twitter will change a company's tune real quick. Look how quickly HTC changed up their bootloader policy and at how they decided to give Desire users Gingerbread after telling them it wasn't possible. Such a campaign would be the last thing T-Mobile or LG needs, especially since LG said they were counting on their Optimus line of phones to help them profit after announcing a loss last quarter. At least we know fixes are coming soon for our phone. LG promised Gingerbread to Optimus One users back in December and they haven't heard a peep since then...

Mine is perfect. No recall needed here.
I can't help but wonder if the complaints here on xda are actually representative of all G2X owners, or if there is a very vocal minority that are having legitimate problems, but we just don't hear from all the satisfied owners. Mayne I'm wrong, but I can't help but wonder.

As with all devices, most users are not knowledgable of XDA, and don't browse the forums. So, this is a minority, probably, but we feel as though the problems exist universally.
I'm getting a Sensation, it's on the way. I'm keeping my G2X until the update. Now that I have the clarity of no more screw ups in my future, I can wait. If they get the bugs out of this phone it will be the best thing out there. And I'll come back in a flash.
Fix it, don't recall it.

Social media works very well IMHO. I had an ongoing gripe with T-Mobile that I wasn't able to solve even after multiple phone calls and chats and speaking to managers. I blasted them on Twitter and voila. Not only did I get the problem taken care of, but I got an EVP of customer service to call me back, and an extremely deeply discounted phone out of the deal. If you want to look at a good example of using social media to force a company's hand, look at the #NeverAgain movement with the Vibrant.
