have posted before-running darkforce(excellent)
however when abroad(sweden, spain most of europe) the phone cannot establish a data connection for either email or internet yet displays all the right signs -the triangle for roaming 3g etc
i am reposting because the last reponse was to try the latest radio 1.18-I have and still the same problem
I am with t-mobile who insist every is set up to work abroad(which it did on the original rom-but that rom was sooo bad)
all network setting are set to auto-it picks up every network going but makes no difference.
can people confirm what roms they use abroad?
what operator is their primary?
thanks
roaming- the same problem
hi!
I have the same problem. I posted a message in here, but still without any response. It is really great problem for someone, who travel all the time and cannot check his e-mails
Hi folks,
Please can someone help.
I got my new Pro on Friday and it really is a nice phone. I am on T-Mobile UK and subscribe to web n walk plus.
Like others in the forum the signal strengh is [email protected] wi T-Mobile yet put sim in any other phone and it's fine.
OK, my problem. The phone configured itself to T-Mobile and setup picture message and gprs/3g settings. I can browse net on phone via pocket IE or Opera.
Now if I try to sign in via Windows Live to get my email or configure Activesync to our companies mail server I get the G and flashing arrow but then the program I'm trying to use says it cant find an internet connection.
Switch on WiFi and go through that and it's fine. Take sim out and put it in my cooked Trinity P3600 running Diamond 3.1 on win mobile 6.1 and everything works. I've tried my sim in a T-Mobile branded Diamond and it works.
I've tried various locations, one being 6 feet away from the cell to no avail. Tried my work sim in it (also T-Mobile) and same happens so what can I do to get it to work.
Connection setup as T-Mobile Internet. Cellular Line (gpgs, 3G), general.t-mobile.uk, username T-mobile password one2oneuser.
Can anyone help.
Thanks.
John
I had the exact same problem. The Auto-Config wizard thing has changed slightly and now seems to set up the connection with the usage of a proxy server.
You need to uncheck this and all will be well. Don't return that sucker just yet!

Thanks mate,
I have unticked the box but will need to wait for T-Mobile signal to come back before I can test it. Why is this phone soooo poor with T-Mobile. I get 3 bars on my Trinity at home.

Hrm, I have noticed a slight drop in reception compared to my Kaiser but it's not that bad where I am. I am in London though so I guess coverage is pretty good. Also, I have noticed GPS reception is a little off too compared to the Kaiser. I'm thinking as some more ROMs start appearing with new Radios we will see some improvements. It depends if you are willing to wait or not. The device itself is great, there's no doubting that. Give it time. I am sure things will get better.
Ok, unticking allows work email to work but I cant get Windows Live to work.
Looking at the settings on my old Trinity it has the proxy set.
Thanks,
John
That's weird.
It's all working perfectly here, on T-Mo too (UK).
I have an XDA Orbit 2 on a Three Uk SIM. I set up the data connection by simply putting three.co.uk in the APN field in connection settings. It connects fine and I can use it to tether my PC.
I noticed though that if I visit an adult site, or any deemed by Three to contain adult content, I end up on a page telling me I need to verify that I'm the bill payer and then I'll be granted access.
What is strange about that is, if I use the same SIM card in a Three Uk Skypephone and tether, I get no such warnings.
I can't figure this out.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also, while I'm at it. The Orbit won't stay connected for long, it keeps disconnecting. This s not a signal issue, the Skype phone will stay connected all day long.
Only difference I can see is that the Skype phone sets up a dialup connection to gain net access and the Orbit registers as a network adapter (RNDIS) device.
I thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

I see 38 people have read this, but no reply. I understand that I may have to wait a while for somebody to have the answer. I'm just wondering if there would be a better location somewhere else on this site for this post.

Hi all
As a T-mobile UK customer I have been finding that I lose internet on my phone every 6 or 7 days, typically lasting for about 6 hours.
During my last converstaion with support I mentioned that i had the following in the APN settings
[email protected]
They seem to think that it might be a Tmobile USA profile and hence the problem (how the wrong APN could work for 95% of the time is beyond me).
I did take the handset to the USA last year but did not have data roaming turned on. Does anyone know how i ended up with the wrong APN? A quick google search returns no results for the APN listed...
I have since manually changed the APN and things seem ok (for now).

Whoops.... I have just found out where the the APN settings came from.
In an attempt to get my MMS working I just ran the HTC Connection Manager. For the first time in 1.5 years my MMS is working but I have noticed that my new APN settings say [email protected]
So it seems that HTC use APNs that T-mobile UK are not familiar with? Annoyingly I have no way of viewing the new APN or editing it
Does anyone know which settings the HTC connection manager uses? I am concerned that although MMS is working, if my internet connection goes down again, the UK helpdesk might just shrug their shoulders and pass the buck to HTC, who in turn will pass it back
Ok so I spoke to HTC UK today, they told that they have no way of finding out what APN their app uses, they suggested that I use the generic T-mobile APN that they have on their system, which I did and the MMS stopped working again.... so I ran their app and alll is fine again (for now).
I guess that I will have to try to email HTC. It is rather annoying that MS decided that customers shouldn't be allowed to see existing APNs.
I do have a dev account, tbh I only subscribed so that I could get mango early, if that means that I can sideload something that will show me the APN in use then please feel free to point me in the right direction.
Cheers
So I just got my N5 and now I'm having problems with data. Whenever I try to go to a website, it would just direct me to tmobile's login website and a sign into network notification pops up as well. When I log in, the website doesn't even load. I've tried changing APNs, network mode, custom roms and several solutions over the internet but nothing works. I have a grandfathered data plan so that might be the problem but it works fine on my Galaxy Nexus. I'm taking it to the store tomorrow but if anyone can suggest a solution it'd be great.
I have exactly the same issue. Please, let me know if you've solved it.

Any update on this issue? Having the same problem w/ 16GB black N5
Same issue, get popup saying to sign in, enter number and password, then get a screen that says "webpage is not available" Calls and texts work, just not data.
Have you calling T-mobile? 611 on your t-mobile phone?
Customer Service there has always been really good about helping me!
go into settings, wireless & networks, more, mobile data, accesspoint names, and make sure you APN is fast.t-mobile.com
tell me how it goes.
Also if any of you installed anything custom, go into settings : about phone, and see if you have a baseband and imei number listed, if not, try a factory reset, or taking it all the way back to stock. Some people are having similar issues in the kernel threads.
As bizarre as this might sound, give T-Mobile tech support a call and make sure your account is provisioned for an Android device. Apparently mine was configured for a Blackberry and while it didn't have any effect on my N4, it gave no end of trouble to my N5. (Read: I had the same redirect issues)
I'm having the same issue... My sim/account has worked fine with data on numerous phones, none of which were t-mobile phones but all worked with tmo data just fine. With Nexus 5, it is redirecting all http queries to a tmo signin page, whether with apn set to fast.t-mobile.com, epc.t-mobile.com, network type set to LTE, or 3G...
I guess I'll head to the local tmo store tomorrow and see if they can fiddle with my acct without dropping my older plan. It looks like my acct's data service is "T-Mobile Smartphone Unlimited Web" -- they picked that generic Smartphone service since they didn't know what my phone was (Nokia N900 running Maemo) when I first signed up for T-Mobile service. DeltaPavonis, I'll first have them see if they can switch that to something Android-specific. Although I dislike that the account can't just stay generic and work with any device I put my sim in...

It does sound rather strange, which is why I'd to see if this works for anyone else. I spent about a day and a half mucking around with pretty much everything I could think of device-side and a few calls with tech support reps, then, lo and behold not fifteen minutes after my account gets re-provisioned from Blackberry to Android (and cycling airplane mode) the redirects stop.

Thanks for the advice on what to ask for.
I went to a local store this morning. They seemed pretty clueless (the guy helping me was apparently really new -- he had never called cust svc on behalf of a customer before and kept having to ask for help about what to say or do). They ended up swapping my older sim for a new sim. That changed me from having this issue on HSPA to having this issue on LTE (so I guess that was good). Then they called cust svc and got to tech support. I wish I would have just called myself as the store person was a clueless middle man. And he kept holding my Nexus 5 like he was about to drop it.
Anyway, I guess the "data feature" on my account was an older one meant for windows phones (but that sometimes works on Android phones too). I think it was showing on my acct as something like "Budle Web SmartPhone". He switched the data feature to a different one that supposedly works with Android, Windows, iPhone. It fixed it about 30 mins after I left the store (after cycling airplane mode). He promised it didn't change my actual plan and is still unlimited data. On the tmo portal, it now shows as "4G Web - Unlimited"
So I think the bottom line is yea, call cust svc, get to tech support, and have them reprovision your data service/feature to the more modern one meant for all phones.
Oddly, I just noticed my $59.99 Even More Plus 500 TTW plan is now showing as a $29.99 plan. I can't wait to see if my next bill is actually cut in half or if this is just a display oddity.
Adblock plus
Hey I had this for weeks and it was driving me mad. I finally found the issue, its to do with your /etc/hosts file. I found updating adblock plus (the application, not just the filter list) sorted it for me. Hope this helps someone else.
My situation is i have family plan ( "Even More Plus™ 3000mins + Unlimited Text + Unlimited Data(5GB PhoneFirstWebPlus)" and i am almost a decade old customer.
The situation that aggravates me the most is that the data plan works with brand new iPhone 5S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, any other unlocked android and windows mobile phones, yet Nexus One, Nexus 5 is getting redirected/blocked.
I was straight forward with all Reps i talked to, explained all detailed and technicality behind how their system is only blocking very small percentage of the customers. How many people still have $6-10 data plans and purchased nexus 5 or want to use their old nexus one? probably like 200-800 nation wide, most of customer already lost their old data plans.
Spend 90 mins with Loyalty Customer Care and Tech Support back and forth:
i was told that i would have switch to more expensive plan if i wanted to have the same amount of data and insisted that i don't need/use that much data and should go with 500mb or 2.5gb choice. Why would i downgrade or pay extra 35-45 dollars because T-mobile enforced a block on couple android phones, yet let iPhone users can use cheap data plans with no problem and no special configuration of phone(simply pop-in sim card and LTE data&speeds work) .
One of the chat session ended successfully, Rep promised to forward issue to upper management.
N5-stock everything, brand new SIM card, tried many APN settings, none worked for data. Perfect LTE reception, phone calls, text&mms messages, yet data block/redirect.

First you need to make sure that APN name, user name, password and proxy settings are correct for your operator and data plan.
You will get this data by calling customer service.
What is actually blocking you is the operator's proxy server, the one found in APN settings.
Try to delete proxy IP and port or disable proxy server for your APN. After that try surfing to see if it works.
Many operators have their internal routing settings set up in way that data connection works without a proxy server.
If your data connection does not work when you remove proxy IP address and port from APN settings then connection without proxy is not allowed by operator.
Proxy server is used by operator to identify you as a customer on various operator's web portals where you can change your data plan settings, purchase stuff, etc. If your data connection works without proxy, you will not be able to access any operator's internal web page for customer access. But not much people actually need those web pages.
Proxy also tries to detect your device and adjust the looks of operator's web pages you visit according to your device.
If device model is not recognized by proxy for some reason (usually outdated device database on proxy server) it could forbid access to data services. In that case only solution is to call customer service again and again until they fix it.
