I was a "Asus Transformer" owner till yesterday. Saw the xoom with my friend and fell in love with the device. Should I go ahead and buy one now or wait and see what Samsung has to offer?
I'd wait for the xoom 2.
Of course, then the xoom 3 would be on it's way, so I'd wait for that.
Darn, but by then, the xoom 4 would be imminent, so you definitely want to wait for that.
Oh gosh, I almost forgot: the xoom 5...
J/K: if you like the xoom and you have the money, there will always be a new thing coming out. Just pull the trigger or walk away, you know?
If you just want WIFI version, than the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be available on 8th of June, no idea when the 3G will be available. Also there is no pricing yet on the tab, but I think it’s unlikely to cost more than the Xoom WIFI. If it end up cost less, the Xoom might get a discount.
Looking at the Tab from the Google I/O event, it does not seem to have micro sd, and it have the same charger as the 7” tab so it will charge much slower than the Xoom. Also tab only have ipad like connectors so you’ll need by adaptors.
The tab might have a better screen and its slimmer and lighter than the Xoom.
So if you can, I’d wait a month, and read some comparison and go play with both of them yourself in your local electronic store.
well what was it that made you want to drop the transformer for the xoom in particular? I'd be able to give better advice if I knew what you were looking for, since something about the transformer didnt satisfy you

bought new last Christmas from Sears. I installed Vegan-tab immediately and liked it very much. but after the vacation i found it became less useful to me-- my daily life is either sitting at office or at home (or driving, of coz) and i have two desktops and two note books to use. It just sit there for nearly a month now. So I am considering selling it for some cash.
It'll come with original case and accessories, and a AmazonBasics bag I bought for it (AmazonBasics Netbook Bag with Handle, Fits 7- to 10-Inch Netbooks, iPad (Black) ). I'd sell it for $270 and you pay the shipping you choose. I'm in north DFW area and local pickup is also welcome. you can save the shipping cost.
I also sent out the rebate form for its dock and they cashed out my $10.5 check for "shipping and handling", but I do not know when they will ship it... If you buy my gtablet, I promise I will ship the dock to you for free (you still need to pay the shipping though) as soon as I receive it.
silly me. just noticed the subject and didn't notice the forum. had my hopes up for a good deal on a galaxy tablet/something w/ 3g data capabilities.
I see.. let me change the title to indicate it's a Viewsonic G tablet, not a Galaxy tab
Very interested...
Can you post up some pics and do you take Pay-Pal as form of payment?
i am interested, how much to sell to sydney, australia.
and could you post some piccies?

I'll take it.

I'm seeing a few of these - is everyone jumping ship?
I'm keeping mine, no worries. If the GTAB forum eventually dissapears, the device will go to my wife. The old trickle down effect....

I think its more a case of everyone trying to get the most money for the Tab while its still hot. With all the new Tabs coming out soon they fear prices dropping and want max value. Thats my take anyway, I could be wrong.
Mine is going to my wife as well. I take it to work everyday and when I get home she runs to me to pry it out of my hands. I think she'd kill me if I ever sold it. And just to think, before I owned a Gtab she "didnt like touch screen devices". Go figure..........................
Yep, makes sense. It's actually why I sold my dev unit as I figured my original GTAB would eventually become the dev unit (which is exactly what happened).

Robeet,
Not everyone is jumping ship; I still have 2 of these and will keep them as long as possible. Based on the tablets I have seen that is scheduled to release I still think we have the best of the lot. It is not our fault that VS was damn short sighted in their approach to this tablet.
It annoys me greatly that they did not push the channel hard enough on this device and have the leadership needed to make this a true force in the Market. It further annoys me that they did not have accessories available nor did they have 3rd party accessory suppliers in the ready. This was poor market strategy at work; guess they missed that whole business 101 course while in college.
No... all of us are NOT jumping ship; this tablet honestly has the capabilities I was initially looking for in a Tablet. Once we have 3.0 on this thing personally I will be set no matter what other wiz-bang device comes out later!!!!
Just my 2 cents worth
I wouldn't say "I'm jumping ship". The hardware inside G-tablet is mostly in line with the mainstream of tablets this year, and now you know their prices... I think g-tablet still has very high performance/price ratio.
I'm selling it just because I found that a tablet is actually not so useful to me...when I got this tablet I was very excited, flashing custom Roms, trying all kinds of apps, etc. However after the vacation, I could not find much use of it... browsing web, watching video? I'd rather use my desktop with a 24" LCD and dedicated mouse/keyboard. Playing game? The casual games on tablet are not comparable with "real" games on my game PC and consoles IMHO. Reading novels? My kindle 3 is more comfortable with its E-ink display... I guess the real problem is I stay at home or office almost all the time. Tablet is more useful to an outdoor man.
Just my 2 cents
I'd still like to buy this.....
Have you sold it yet?
I'm still very interested. Let me know what you want to do to take care of the transaction...

I'm actually looking to buy 2 more for friends
My boss even introduced my GTab to our clients as " Superfast TnT-Lite OS" tablet!
It is understandable that there are many more tegra 2 tablets coming with better specs + screen. Most of them starting around $400.
Xoom wifi is only $539 at Sam Club (according to engagdet)
I guess that if we can find a screen replacement + honeycream soon, people would stick around for longer..
I have a chance to purchase either a Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the TF.I can get either one for 399.00. I have tried both and taken both back a week or so ago. I did like them but could not decide which one was the keeper although I leaned toward the TF. Until today the deciding factor was the 100.00 price difference (499vs 399) well today they are on equal terms. Any suggestions or input from those that have had both devices for a couple of weeks or more would be greatly appreciated. Also any other suggestions etc also warmly received.
I own two TFs and a Gtablet. The main reason I bought them is the support on forums such as xda. Personally I don't touch Samsung stuffs due to support (they just suck at FW/SW also the way they copy Apple --> no ports). Since you mentioned the deal @Staples, I would get the Acer for $299 (fool-around until tegra3 comes).
I have had bad experiences with Samsung in the past, not so much their products, but their support is the worst in the industry.
I purchased my TF 3 days ago and have been unable to put it down since. I Love it. amazing piece of equipment you would be hard pressed to find a better device imho
$100 Off
This won't help you make your decision but Staples has a coupon floating around for $100 off ANY tablet
I just picked up a galaxy tab today from staples. So far i am really enjoying it. I also own a transformer, which i have been enjoying for a couple of months. If I only had on tablet and the choice was between the two, I would pick the transformer based soley on the fact that it has expandable memory and i could easily fill up 16 or 32 GB. With that being said if I didn't need the storage I would opt for the tab just because of its form and screen.
Now i am going to say something that I will probably get flamed for in this forum. I actually like the xoom better than the transformer and i plan to sell the TF on ebay then pick up a xoom from staples before the $100 off deal ends. I bought on over the weekend from staples because they had the $50 off deal last week and they had no tabs in stock, knowing that I was most likely going to return it. I really enjoyed it and miss it already.
The only downside compared that the TF was its weight, which didn't really bother me. For all of the talk about how much better the TF screen is than the xoom, I didn't really see it. I really tried too, playing the same videos on both side by side. Yes if you were looking at it from an odd angle it didn't look as good, but a tablet is almost always pointing right at you from a foot or so away. The xoom also comes with 32 GB internal memory for the price, and the build quality felt substantially better than the TF. If you really wanted the dock for the TF, then I could see that swaying somebodies decision, but I personally have no interest in it.
Anyway that is my opinion on things after having owned all three. I don't mean to make your decision any harder or start a flame war in here.

Do you mean you have thegalaxy tab or g slate
What is the best Android tablet right now?
I really want
1) 1 GB RAM
2) Dual Core
3) 9.7 inch or superior
4) microSD or SD
5) WiFi
6) Android 3.0
7) light
8) thin
9) Excellent battery
10) Gorgeous display, good resolution
11) Netflix (I don't care if I have to root the phone)
12) Ability to root the tablet (this is VERY important)
13) Price
I would ideally like something that looks as cool as the iPad 2
I REALLY like how Apple makes their devices really thin, especially the iPad 2, it looks SO awesome
Any suggestions?
I want to buy the tablet within the next 30 days or so, I only like to wait if it makes sense. For example, I am tired of waiting for the Samsung Galaxy SII, by the time it comes I won't buy it, it just arrived way too late for my taste
So, if the answer is "Wait 2 months and then..." then I'm not interested
If I have to wait 30 days or so, I guess I can, but I REALLY want a nice Tablet since I've bought numerous games/apps that I think will look better on the Android Tablet
I want to buy the Tablet at Newegg
Here's the (almost) perfect one for you.... The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It has all what you're looking for (except for the sdcard slot) but has a lot more features and it is available at Newegg at a reasonable price.

yeah he pretty much covered it...i just got a 10.1" galaxy and i love it! it would be nice to have an sd card slot, but 32gb is a decent ammount of space, and if you need more you can get a usb adapter that plugs into the 30 pin connector (basically makes the 30 pin slot a usb slot) and plus in thumb drives and such...android > ios, and the galaxy is actually thinner than the ipads...samsung makes a GREAT tablet!
If your looking to get one right now and not wait than the samsung galaxy that just came out is your best bet. although just fyi you are getting close the shopping season so you are going to see a slew of different models coming out from various companies, and you will always get that buyers remorse feeling as the item that comes out 2 weeks after you buy yours will have some new fancy feature added to it.
But as of right this minute the galaxy should meet your needs.
you can also consider the asus transformer, which is competing with the galaxy tab
The Asus Transformer is $399 the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is $499
The Asus Transformer has Micro SD Card reader the Galaxy Tab 10.1 does not
So, with all due respect to all the previous comments, why should I spend the extra $200?
I dislike Apple's stupid way of charging $100 extras for a simple 16GB of space, and now Samsung (which copies A LOT of Apple, hence the legal problems it has with them), follows exactly the same idea
charge $100 extra for 16GB
So, if I buy the Asus, I can be happy with the 16GB, and then I can upgrade it
Please confirm if the Asus Transformer (which sells for $399) has expansion
So far it seems the difference is the width of the tablet, the Samsung is 30% more thinner
same with the weight 20% more lighter for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Anyway, I have a $799 limit.
WIth that money I can buy a Turtle Beach PX5 + Asus Transformer and still have $136 credit left, which allows me to buy a Newegg extended warranty
PLus with teh Asus Transformer I have the extended keyboard
Bottom line, the reason why I don't see myself buying a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 is because I am FORCED to buy the 32GB model, since these Apple copycats decided that they need to charge $100 for 16GB
So I don't want to buy something not-upgradable, so I have to go for the more expensive model
If I go for Samsung I would spend $888 for both products, so there's a BIG $200 difference
Hi,
One of the best android tabs around right now would be th Asus transformer, by it's hardware, Asus's update quality, and by it's price. I would definitely go for that one, but maybe wait for the Asus Transformer 2 coming out in a few months ^^

Well, have you actually tested that tablet?
I would REALLY, REALLY like to use it as a e-Book reader.
So, if it weights too much, then it might won't do the trick
Ideally I would like something that feels similar to the iPad, something that feels confortable so I can read books from that thing
Thanks a lot
I'd buy a Kindle or similar for ebooks - it's much nicer to read on for long periods than a back-illuminated screen.
shall i wait for quad core transformer 2 or shall i just get the current 1 now..?
There's always something better "just around the corner" when it comes to technology. You really have to decide for yourself when the time is right and be able to live with your decision until you can upgrade again.
Well, waiting might be a good idea.
Of course I opted to get it a month ago, so i didn't have the patience.
It's totally up to you, I took the plunge because amazon was giving 20% off on the TF 32 GB. Ended up paying less for the 32GB then you would pay for the 16GB. If you constantly wait for the latest and greatest to be released you will be waiting for a long time.

Haha, I have you beat there. Ended up paying a total of $380 for both the TF and the keyboard dock brand new.
Anyway, to the op, you should wait for the next gen, which should come out a few months after tegra 2 is released, which is the end of this year. Just just wait about 7 months or so and you will see the TF 2 in the market. And if you're patient, wait another 7 or 8 months and I'm sure they'll have TF 3 out.
If you're really really patient and want the latest and greatest, you should wait it out until they come out with paper thin tablets that have 3-D screen. Heck, just wait a little longer after that and I'm sure they'll have something like neural control interface where you can control your tablet with your mind.
I hope you realize I've been sarcastic.
The current TF is a very capable device already. I've used half a dozen different ones, and it is my opinion that the TF is by far the best option right now.
Tegra 3 won't be released until at least November. And it will take at the very least 4 months or so for computer companies like asus to fit it in with their design. And it will take them a few more months to get it to the US market. You're looking at waiting until mid next year before you can get your hands on one. And let's not forget that it will probably be priced a little higher this time now that the Asus TF has got everyone's attention.
To wait or not is up to you. Just keep in mind the real amount of time you'll have to wait for the next gen TF. And as soon as the TF 2 comes out, they'll be talking about the TF 3. Are you going to wait for that, too?
The only reason I would suggest waiting is that perhaps the next-gen TF will be rootable, whereas no one has released a root method for current production. I was going to replace my destroyed TF and dock, but I figured that if I couldn't root, why be in a rush?
That logic does make much sense. The quad core will no more likely to be rootable than the current one. The reverse might actually be more true since the current ones has been out for a while and the devs has had their hands on them.

My thinking is that a new device might not be subject to whatever agreement or policy is in place to keep the SBK from being released. If it wasn't for that issue, this would be a moot discussion.
The first sbk was never meant to be released. I don't think anyone knows how rayman and friends manage to get a hold f it.

I was surprised to not see a thread created already in General Discussion for this topic.
As AndroidandMe reported last week, ASUS was rumored to be creating the first Nexus branded Tablet with a price between $200-$250. As the week went on, more rumors swirled (and are starting to look pretty solid at this point) that ASUS will in fact be making the first Nexus (7") Tablet featuring stock Android 4.0, a dual-core Qualcomm processor (potentially the Snapdragon S4) and is looking to be priced at $149!
At this point, even though the first Nexus Tablet won't be a quad-core, this is looking like a really sweet deal. I personally will probably replace my Kindle Fire with this if the specs stand true.
Anyway, just figured I'd start a discussion. Here are some source links:

It does sound pretty good except I can't bring myself to pay more than $150 for a 7" tablet. I would pay $200 for a 10" tablet but no more than that. It might be because I got a TouchPad when it went on the fire sale. Now I want all tablets to be that price. I blame HP. LOL
Make it 10' -> (As screen is bigger, more allowed internal space, the price goes up).
I would pay $300 or $350 for a 64 Gb 10 inches screen.
Profit!!!
I am really curious to the specs the end result is going to have. Even more because this even lower price than said before. It sure is going to be a nice gadget.
If it is anything like the memo i can see this being a massive hit. Put in either an S4 or a Tegra 3 like the memo a 1280x800 IPS display and micro sd card and people will see this at a store then see the price then see it on their receipt. I myself have a transformer that's almost a year old and I would pick one of these up as my go to tablet and the TF as the work tablet (keyboard dock)
Would be good to see a Nexus tablet, there are no GED tablets out there*
Xoom doesn't count as it is ONLY the wifi version that was on sale in ONLY the United States. Though if they really want to to take off and go head to head with the dedicated 200~ tablets they need to improve their ecosystem, open up google movies, books and music to more countries
I would be very interested in a 10"+ tablet, 7" doesn't do it for me. Bigger the better.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I'm not sure why people are talking about 10" tablets - aren't there plenty of those around? The 7" Nexus is clearly a direct response to Amazon's success with the Kindle Fire (if rumors are to be believed even Apple is paying attention), and in order to compete with it they need to be at $200 or below.
At $149 I doubt they will be using the S4/Krait, but we can always hope. In any case, I was more than a little tempted by some of the crappy ~$140 Chinese Cortex A8 tablets available. $149 for a Nexus tablet, even if it's only a dualcore Snapdragon S3, is an insane deal.
I do hope Google brings out two types of nexus Tablet. A $249 10 inch tablet and a 7 inch tablet at $149.
I think if they can do the two above and make the Tablets desirable I really think the Android Tablet ecosystem could really start to kick off
I already have a 10 inch tablet, but would very much consider this for a second. The Nexus is the selling point, as long as battery life were excellent I am on board.

But where would you put a 10 foot tablet?
im kind of disappointed if the memo370 is being discontinued and downgraded and being replaced with the rumors of the new specs. Google is obviously not liking the fact that the kindle is built off the blackberry playbook chassis and the tweaked OS that provides google with zero commission. In any case I hope they undercut the kindle fire in price if they do but its hard to say im looking forward to it when amazon is expected to come out with updates. Honestly, they need to come out with a 10" ipad killer that costs half the price or else they won't change the game.
It would really suck if this tablet replaces the asus memo. Me and my friends were all going to get one. And if this new nexus is just going to just be a dual core, then how is it any better than the nook tablet? They're probably going to get rid of the micro sd card slot like they've been doing. I'm just salty because I was looking forward to the memo
The last months, I began to get interested in Tablets and nearly bought a Lenovo Ideapad and a (shame on me) iPad, but i could resist. But when the rumours are true I buy one, even when its "only" a Dual-Core.
Normally I´m interested in a 10" (or more like the Samsung 11" and the Toshiba 13") , Quad core Tablet with Keyboard Dock. 7" is too small for a couch, but for rhis prize, with google Support I cant´t say no
Looks like this is being pushed back until July to try and shave off manufacturing cost to keep it at the $199 mark.
I've been looking to get a tablet for some general gaming and thought this might be a good one to look at. Hopefully the specs are decent otherwise I may have to pay a little extra for something that will play most games well.
Regardless though, it is good to see Google, Asus, Nvidia (and anyone else involved) trying to create tablets for the mainstream with good specs at a great price. This can only be good for the Play Store and the tablet market in the long run.
