[Q] How many months until we see it for the MSRP?

For being lauded as a wonderful $400 tablet, I'm not sure about spending well over $500 for one.
Will there be a new generation before we see a $400 transformer for the tablet alone? I have no use for a dock, I just want a nice hackable tab, and the nook isn't really cutting out even at 1.3ghz.

i dont think so he said he's not sure about spending 500 for the TF. what are you referring to OP? shipping, taxes or are you from another country? in north america MSRP is 400.

By early June to Mid June 2 major competitors (Samsung and someone I forgot) will be on the market. The Asus will be like the Xoom at that point.

Once they start shipping slightly higher qtys it should open up quickly as there are many duplicate and triplicate orders being placed because of the resellers policies of accepting orders and payment then arbitrarily canceling them after some time. Check out the availability thread and stick with the reliable resellers.

Why do you say that? The TF 16GB wifi-only is $399. The equivalent Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 16GB wifi-only will be $499. So, the TF will still be the least expensive option (as well as the most interesting given the dock) in its class.

Agreed. The TF will be the inexpensive alternative in that case.
There will be plenty of people who will want this just because it is $100 (which is a sizable chunk) cheaper and still has a great screen.
I wouldn't be surprised if the TF eats into Samsung's sales -- not vice versa. For instance, I was going to go for the 10.1 but given its late release date and the awesome TF specs, I decided to change my mind and go with Asus.

I ask because I haven't found an online retailer in the us that shows it for $400.
I guess people are taking advantage of scarcity currently.

Stay on the stickied availability thread, people will post once an online retailer has one for sale.

The TF is available for MSRP now -- you just need to put effort into getting one. The ones above MSRP are resellers and not the actual retailers. (Some retailers will show reseller items because the retailers ran out of stock)

IMHO Samsung will be of higher quality materials. Hopefully it will also have the Samsung processor The killer for Samsung is the 8.9 form factor unit. This size is closer in price, considerably lighter, and IMHO (as an iPad, NC, and soon Transformer owner) a better size for a pure tablet.
The advantage for the Transformer is a dock. With that I would buy it at even a higher price point because of the content creation capabilities. But to a lot of users this is not as big as an a factor.
But, the bottom line is that as more Android tables come on line the impact of any particular unit like the Transformer becomes less and less. It just like what happened with phone. The original Droid was unique, the follow-ons are just another Android phone.

Toshiba? I have seen their tablet (at CES?) and if it is really this one, i am happy i have gone with the transformer, the camera was directly under your finger, lot of (useless?) buttons where you would hold the tab (if you are a lefty), and i doubt the screen will match the transformer one (not sure about this one) and i also doubt it will match the low price...One interesting thing about it though is the "removeable" battery. As for the samsung, it seems great, nice screen, look great, comes in (2?) sizes, but the 3 main reasons i didn't wait to see it is first, the price, doubt they will match the transformer (maybe the little one but i already own a galaxy s, so for little screen i am served) the updates... well the only device i got from samsung was the galaxy s, waited an eternity to get froyo but for gingerbread, wasn't so long (but a LOT of people are complaining that they never updates, etc) and third, the dock, the galaxy tab doesn't seem to want to release a dock at the launch which is definately + for me... other thing that samsung could do to get more customer is to get a processor other than tegra 2 which could actually play 1080p/720p with every profiles... but i don't think they have revealed yet which they are gonna settle with. So i am actually getting my first tablet, transformer with dock, making my programmation course with it and then, i may buy a super quad core tablet

Most of us here are gadget addicts, if Samsung's offering is tasty looking,I'd bet many of us will find a way to get it.Lol,can a person ever have too many devices?

Disagree.
The Xoom was never that popular to begin with so I don't see how you can use that as a comparison.
Again, the biggest point here is the price; form factor is one thing but that only might affect a buyer. Price always caters to a wide audience.
In fact, the only reason in mind that the Xoom sold any units is because it was the only Honeycomb tablet available.
Nobody cares that the Xoom's 32 GB price is the same as the Ipad's 32 GB price. Most people will look at the price and just cringe. It is quite clear that there is a bigger market for a more affordable tablet.
Not only did the Xoom needed to match Apple's lowest price offering, it needed to be EVEN lower -- or else why not just go for the iPad? That is what goes through the minds of most consumers: they might care about size, OS or whatever form factor but in the end it always boils down to price. (when you don't hold the same brand weight as Apple)
The Asus TF is the most affordable quality Honeycomb tablet. (By FAR the most affordable) That is the biggest reason why it is hot right now. Even though I think Samsung will sell the 10.1 and 8.9 just based on brand name alone, I still think Asus will retain strong sales as long as it remains the most affordable quality HC tablet. Asus already has the advantage of releasing the TF a month before Samsung plans to release just the 10.1.

I'm trying to decide between ASUS and Samsung. If ASUS really needs to get these in stores soon.

Trying to decide -Galaxy tab or TF(both are same price)

I have a chance to purchase either a Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the TF.I can get either one for 399.00. I have tried both and taken both back a week or so ago. I did like them but could not decide which one was the keeper although I leaned toward the TF. Until today the deciding factor was the 100.00 price difference (499vs 399) well today they are on equal terms. Any suggestions or input from those that have had both devices for a couple of weeks or more would be greatly appreciated. Also any other suggestions etc also warmly received.

I own two TFs and a Gtablet. The main reason I bought them is the support on forums such as xda. Personally I don't touch Samsung stuffs due to support (they just suck at FW/SW also the way they copy Apple --> no ports). Since you mentioned the deal @Staples, I would get the Acer for $299 (fool-around until tegra3 comes).

I have had bad experiences with Samsung in the past, not so much their products, but their support is the worst in the industry.
I purchased my TF 3 days ago and have been unable to put it down since. I Love it. amazing piece of equipment you would be hard pressed to find a better device imho

I just picked up a galaxy tab today from staples. So far i am really enjoying it. I also own a transformer, which i have been enjoying for a couple of months. If I only had on tablet and the choice was between the two, I would pick the transformer based soley on the fact that it has expandable memory and i could easily fill up 16 or 32 GB. With that being said if I didn't need the storage I would opt for the tab just because of its form and screen.
Now i am going to say something that I will probably get flamed for in this forum. I actually like the xoom better than the transformer and i plan to sell the TF on ebay then pick up a xoom from staples before the $100 off deal ends. I bought on over the weekend from staples because they had the $50 off deal last week and they had no tabs in stock, knowing that I was most likely going to return it. I really enjoyed it and miss it already.
The only downside compared that the TF was its weight, which didn't really bother me. For all of the talk about how much better the TF screen is than the xoom, I didn't really see it. I really tried too,playing the same videos on both side by side. Yes if you were looking at it from an odd angle it didn't look as good, but a tablet is almost always pointing right at you from a foot or so away. The xoom also comes with 32 GB internal memory for the price, and the build quality felt substantially better than the TF. If you really wanted the dock for the TF, then I could see that swaying somebodies decision, but I personally have no interest in it.
Anyway that is my opinion on things after having owned all three. I don't mean to make your decision any harder or start a flame war in here.

ASUS 7" Nexus Tablet Discussion

I was surprised to not see a thread created already in General Discussion for this topic.
As AndroidandMe reported last week, ASUS was rumored to be creating the first Nexus branded Tablet with a price between $200-$250. As the week went on, more rumors swirled (and are starting to look pretty solid at this point) that ASUS will in fact be making the first Nexus (7") Tablet featuring stock Android 4.0, a dual-core Qualcomm processor (potentially the Snapdragon S4) and is looking to be priced at $149!
At this point, even though the first Nexus Tablet won't be a quad-core, this is looking like a really sweet deal. I personally will probably replace my Kindle Fire with this if the specs stand true.

It does sound pretty good except I can't bring myself to pay more than $150 for a 7" tablet. I would pay $200 for a 10" tablet but no more than that. It might be because I got a TouchPad when it went on the fire sale. Now I want all tablets to be that price. I blame HP. LOL

Make it 10' -> (As screen is bigger, more allowed internal space, the price goes up).
I would pay $300 or $350 for a 64 Gb 10 inches screen.

I am really curious to the specs the end result is going to have. Even more because this even lower price than said before. It sure is going to be a nice gadget.

If it is anything like the memo i can see this being a massive hit. Put in either an S4 or a Tegra 3 like the memo a 1280x800 IPS display and micro sd card and people will see this at a store then see the price then see it on their receipt. I myself have a transformer that's almost a year old and I would pick one of these up as my go to tablet and the TF as the work tablet (keyboard dock)

Xoom doesn't count as it is ONLY the wifi version that was on sale in ONLY the United States. Though if they really want to to take off and go head to head with the dedicated 200~ tablets they need to improve their ecosystem, open up google movies, books and music to more countries

I would be very interested in a 10"+ tablet, 7" doesn't do it for me. Bigger the better.

I'm not sure why people are talking about 10" tablets - aren't there plenty of those around? The 7" Nexus is clearly a direct response to Amazon's success with the Kindle Fire (if rumors are to be believed even Apple is paying attention), and in order to compete with it they need to be at $200 or below.
At $149 I doubt they will be using the S4/Krait, but we can always hope. In any case, I was more than a little tempted by some of the crappy ~$140 Chinese Cortex A8 tablets available. $149 for a Nexus tablet, even if it's only a dualcore Snapdragon S3, is an insane deal.

I do hope Google brings out two types of nexus Tablet. A $249 10 inch tablet and a 7 inch tablet at $149.
I think if they can do the two above and make the Tablets desirable I really think the Android Tablet ecosystem could really start to kick off

I already have a 10 inch tablet, but would very much consider this for a second. The Nexus is the selling point, as long as battery life were excellent I am on board.

But where would you put a 10 foot tablet?

im kind of disappointed if the memo370 is being discontinued and downgraded and being replaced with the rumors of the new specs. Google is obviously not liking the fact that the kindle is built off the blackberry playbook chassis and the tweaked OS that provides google with zero commission. In any case I hope they undercut the kindle fire in price if they do but its hard to say im looking forward to it when amazon is expected to come out with updates. Honestly, they need to come out with a 10" ipad killer that costs half the price or else they won't change the game.

It would really suck if this tablet replaces the asus memo. Me and my friends were all going to get one. And if this new nexus is just going to just be a dual core, then how is it any better than the nook tablet? They're probably going to get rid of the micro sd card slot like they've been doing. I'm just salty because I was looking forward to the memo

The last months, I began to get interested in Tablets and nearly bought a Lenovo Ideapad and a (shame on me) iPad, but i could resist. But when the rumours are true I buy one, even when its "only" a Dual-Core.
Normally I´m interested in a 10" (or more like the Samsung 11" and the Toshiba 13") , Quad core Tablet with Keyboard Dock. 7" is too small for a couch, but for rhis prize, with google Support I cant´t say no

Looks like this is being pushed back until July to try and shave off manufacturing cost to keep it at the $199 mark.

I've been looking to get a tablet for some general gaming and thought this might be a good one to look at. Hopefully the specs are decent otherwise I may have to pay a little extra for something that will play most games well.
Regardless though, it is good to see Google, Asus, Nvidia (and anyone else involved) trying to create tablets for the mainstream with good specs at a great price. This can only be good for the Play Store and the tablet market in the long run.

A certain location online (I will disclose via PM), is offering the Galaxy Tab 8.9 16GB (refurb) with keyboard dock, desktop dock, leather pouch, and SD card reader for $300.
I have been using my HP Touchpad as an android 4.0 device, but it has its issues. I might sell it to pay for part of this deal, but just wondered if this is a decent tablet at that price.

I think it's an incredible deal.
I find 7 inch tablets to be too small, the 10 inch tablets to be too big but the 8.9 format was just right. I couldn't justify buying an 8.9 when it was $445 so I just opted not to buy until prices fell.
To get it for $300 (previous BB open box deals were $349) and get all those accessories for 'free' is too good to miss. I placed my order this morning. Yeah, it's end of life, but so what?

Cool. I ordered mine too, but later realized that it didn't have an SD card slot. This was a disappointment, but I figure if it doesn't work out for me I can always return it!

Pretty decent deal. The telcos up here(Rogers Canada) where giving away the Samsung 10.1 on a 1year plan ($250). But that is a decent deal too.

Infinity: Why so expensive still?

Hey guys I currently have a Prime, and selling it so that I can get a new or slightly new Infinity but the issue I am running into is that they are still so expensive.
They still retail for $499 (32GB model), and people are selling them for around the same price on eBay for used. Is there going to be a price drop on these soon? How long should I wait to buy one?
I guess this is a good thing because they are clearly holding their value, but given the recent price drop on Refurbished Ipad's (3rd Gen), I would think that Asus would somewhat follow suit to keep things competitive.

I saw the specs on the Nexus 10 and they are impressive, but I really like the functionality about the Transformer series. The idea of using it as a tablet/laptop is very ideal, being that I do not own a PC at home.
Does the Nexus 10 have HDMI out? That would be make or break for me if it didn't.

The Nexus 10 has MicroHDMI, just like the TF700.
You'd need a dongle or adapter to connect a normal HDMI cable.

Yeah, I just saw the specs on the Nexus 10 and they are pretty impressive (display), but I still like how the TF looks over the Nexus. The Nexus looks like a larger phone to me.
Plus, adding the keyboard to the TF just makes it look and seem so awesome. I guess in the end it comes down to price and reliability. I've heard stories about the TF, but since the Nexus 10 isn't even on shelves yet, I am sure that people will start to run into problems, just like any new device.
Difference: Nexus 10 = $399 (16gb) | TF700 = $488 (32gb)

I for one am very satisfied with my TF700. I find the docking keyboard to be really useful and the extra battery it contains is a nice touch. I personally haven't been hit by any of the quality control issues people have brought up on the forums and performance has been fine for what I think of as pretty heavy use.
The Nexus' 2GB of RAM is attractive, but on my TF700 I've always had more than 250MB of RAM free even with an animated live wallpaper, tons of desktop widgets, and a few floating apps open. I can see 2GB of RAM being important for futureproofing, as even Android acquires bloat with OS revisions and it would be nice to rely on a device for a few years into Android 5.0 or 6.0.
The Nexus series also tends to be more friendly to developers. Asus allows one to unlock their tablet, but Asus could stand to make it easier and if they ever shut down the server required for the unlock process, users would be SOL. With the Nexus devices it's generally as simple as entering one command through the Fastboot tool. Also, Asus has moved to crypto key signature checking for their newer bootloaders which prevents using the NVFlash tool for low-level pre-boot file management. So if you're planning on unlocking the device and you're lucky enough to get one running an earlier bootloader, unlock it as soon as you get it!
