Crazy data usage - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey everyone, not sure if this is the right place to post this.
First time owning an Android device. I recently switched form a Blackberry and went with T-Mobile and a new G2X.
I check my data usage online and something is not right. Within the last 7 days I used almost 700MB! I NEVER went past 200MB on my Blackberry a month. This included ALOT of Pandora, web and emails.
With the G2X I rarely surf the web, usually on WIIFI. I have 3 business emails and 2 personal ones. I recieve about 100+ emails a day, all about 12k.
When I check my activity on t-mobile, I notice ALOT of 10mb, 15mb, 20mb or sometimes 50mb activites
The only apps I have running are TeleNav ResourcePreLoader and SyncManager, plus the Android required services. I have everything disabled, GPS, SYNC, etc.
My question is, what cause these huge MB usages every hour or so?
Thanks

Thats weird can you post a screen shot of your usage as displayed on your my.t-mobile.com website? There was another guy about 1 or 2 weeks ago with a similar problem. I can try to find the thread when I get on a computer
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App

I have used 200-300 mb in about a week.
I have used 200-300 mb in about a week.
And i thought that was alot.

I will try to find the thread. Was there solution?
I will try t to post the usage in a little bit.

If you have yahoo mail, it has been known to use very large chunks of data randomly.

Blackberrys compress the content by about 60% or so. That is the reason your data usage was date less than using an Android device. I have both blackberry and G2x and with heavy usage on blackberry I use around 200mb/mth. Hope there helps.

I don't know what that TeleNav item is, but it sounds like something that could chew thru data.

G2x in effect....

There's a few apps in the market that will monitor and report how much each app on your phone is using. I suggest trying one of those for a few days to find the culprit.
The one I've used in the past is called 'TrafficInfo', but it looks like 'Traffic Monitor Widget' is getting better reviews. Both are free.

When on wifi do you still see your 4g symbol?

something I found after couple tries for the data usage issue.
1. The T-Mobile website time stamps are posted in Pacific Time.
2. The application such as Tune-in Radio and other steam apps will eat your data like crazy.
3. Speed Test will eat up the usage too.

OK, even though I didn't set the Google Server backup function when I did factory reset, it was still enabled under "Privacy -> Back up my data". I turned it off and we will see what happens. Are you guys disabling this functionality?

It is the navigation program the g2x comes with. I actually like using it so I don't want to freeze it. Should I be using something besides TeleNav?

Nope. I froze my T-Mobile app because of that issue.

So I'm still having the issue. I installed the network monitor and it looks like android.uid.system:1000 I SENDING about 2 MB per 5 minutes....
Since android.uid.system:1000 consists of many programs like Network Location, Google Backup Transport, settings, etc. Any ideas which one is causing this? I'm pretty sure everything is disabled except for WIFI and Background data Sync... would this be it? I kinda need this to be running to get my MS Exchange email and Android Market.
How can I be the only one having this issue. Weird.

OK, been messing with this for couple hours now. Been disabling things left and right. This is what I found. If the phone is NOT plugged into the USB the data usage is very minimal. I was at a meeting for about 30 minutes and used about 100k. As soon as I got to my desk and plugged in my phone the usage went up to 2.5mb in about 2 minutes.... WTF? Anyone know why?

To put things in perspective, I use almost 3gb a month without tethering and I an connected to wifi at home. Granted I am on a lot and do download a couple books from audible a month, but still, that is mostly apps and browsing. On the other hand, my wife use about 100mb a month

So you see nothing wrong? I have friends with Androids and they don't have random 20mb+ uploads.
Right no now on a 30 minute train ride my phone uploaded 25mb
I wasn't even browsing the web.

L look at what apps you have running and what they are doing. Lots of apps use data in the background.

Mine appears to use around 10-15Mb every day around 6PM. I assume it's something syncing, but it's still weird. I'll install a data monitor app and post what I find.

Google Maps

So it looks like it is something in the phone services.
I used TrafficInfo and it showed 1.4MB down and 12MB up in the "System" tab,
under the following "App name":
Network Location
Gesture
Settings
Account and Sync Settings
Settings Storage
FlexProvider
VPN Services
com.lge.hiddenmenu
Android System
com.lge.internal

I don't know which one of these it was but I suspect it was the Google Backup service.
I have frozen the MyAccount app and the TeleNav app, so it wasn't either of them.

[App] Autorun Manager - gives you control over your startup apps

After the success off AutoKiller I decided to write an app which lets you kill startup apps right after they are started, so it shortens system load times and gives you the possibility to decide what you want to run on your system.
with 2.0 release it brings an advanced tab, it gives you control over intent receivers directly, so you can completely disable automatically running parts of applications
a few words from my home page
Autorun Manager (formerly Autorun Killer) lets you decide what apps you want to let automatically start up. It sports two modes:
Basic mode lets you decide which startup apps should be killed right after they start during system boot process.
Applications are usually autostarting because of a reason, so only disable one if you know exactly what it is doing and you definitely don't need it.
Advanced mode lists all your applications which are registered for system wide events (aka. intents like an incoming call, low battery or boot finished) and gives you the control to enable or disable these -so called- receivers.
Using this mode recommends above average knowledge about how your device works. Please be very careful.

Wow, wasn't expecting any surprises, but after loading your program, I found that there were quite a few programs that I didn't know loaded at startup.
Startup speed did seem a tad quicker. Thanks so much!

ok how do i get autorun killer ?
Why this post is not in android app ?? (but nexus ....)
Anyway is there a list of services safe to shut ?
Doesn't work on N1 .. installed it 3 days ago, apps still run with startup and restart alone even when "prevent restart" option is checked.
Donated anyway, seems like a promising app.

^This.
So if I read the first post correctly, this kills apps right AFTER they started?
This speeds up startup time how?
If X, Y, and Z all startup when i turn my phone on, and I use this app to tell my phone that X and Y are fine, but kill Z after it starts, then when I start my phone X, Y, And Z still start, but then Z gets killed immediately? I don't understand how this could possibly help performance in any way?
Task killers (but not automatic ones) have their purposes when used responsibly, however I really don't think you are getting ANY performance gain.
Just my 2 cents, don't mean it as an attack on your application or anything

yea, i was thinking that already. how does it increase performance if the app has already started up and is already slowing the system, and then you use more cpu to kill it. then another app starts up. same thing.
Great App, highly recommended!
Nice app, didn´t know that some of my installed apps start on boot (even don´t know why they want so). After disabling some of the apps the phone runs faster overall.
Thanks for the sharing!

Unfortunately, they don't/won't. For starters, no where (at least in this thread, haven't looked at the app itself) does it state anything like "there are probably apps that you feel like don't need to run at startup, however they do if you want a problem free experience with that app" or anything like that.
If you don't communicate the possible consequences to people, not sure how you expect them to know this? Sure, not everyone is going to read it even if it was in 72 pt red font on the first page, but there isn't even a warning for those that would read it and take it into consideration.
I'm not saying this app shouldn't exist (goes against the whole free/open/do what I want with MY phone), I'm just saying you might want to post some kind of warning that some apps, whether you like it or not, are depending on running (then automatically killing themselves when done, or whatever) on startup and that this may interfere with that.
I agree and I will add a warning. thank you for your suggestion.

yes, it is. but only on rooted devices, and it is VERY dangerous. I don't plan to offer that feature in my app.
Great application ratson, but apparently its useless to me, seeing as I only have 6 startup applications:
Swype
ATT Hotspots
AK Notepad
DRM Protected Yadda Yadda
Task Manager
Transdroid
Still though, at least now I can salvage whatever cycles were being chewd up by Trandroid, Hotspots and Notepad. Definitely a keeper! In conjunction with your AutoKiller, my Aria is running better than stock, which overcompensates for the performance loss from my Live Wallpapers.
Thanks a ton
this application lists all the apps which listen to the on boot broadcast event. if the app uses a different technique to start itself it is not listed.

(APP) Audiogalaxy!!

I just download this app. It took me about 10 minutes to set it up to sync with the 40GBs of music I have on my computer (only reason it took so long). Now, instead of trying to cram only my favorite music onto my puny little 16GB SD card, leaving no space for pictures/videos/nandroid backups/etc., I can have my entire music collection streamed from my computer to my phone, anywhere I'm at! And did I mention that it's free!!
I'd say the only downside is that your computer has to be on and online if you want your music, but I rarely turn my computer off so it's not a big deal to me.
sounds cool but whats the audio playback like? Good quality? Really wish the Honeycomb player had lock screen controls or i could port over the Z player to SR3.5

It has a high quality option for streaming. I've only tried it over WiFi so far and haven't gotten any skips. But the quality is excellent and the user interface is really intuitive. It also has a widget, sort of like the Pandora widget.
I really like the thought of having my entire music collection at my fingertips, and this app, so far has done a great job at allowing that. And above all, it's free!

Windows Server 03, I can show Vista with 73 days uptime! There is no danger in keeping your computer running 24/7 unless you do not clean it, even then it would take a hell of a lot to make it "Explode"(maybe some C4) or even catch on fire and "Burn" your house down!

Agree 100%. Now laptops are a different story, I wouldn't be so keen as to have that running 24/7 because of airflow issues. But I have a CoolerMaster 932 HAF, with great airflow, that i blow dust out of once a week, so i'm not worried at all.
[email protected] people thinking turning computers on/off regularly is a good thing.
Turning it off and on wears things down, yo.
Why do you think computers generally slow down over time???
Cuz yall don't know how to take care of em properly.
I NEVER turn off my desktop unless I'm going out of town for more than a week.
That's the beauty of a custom machine. <3
I see this turned into a "flame" thread LOL
Sorry had to go there. Thanks for the app suggestion
This really is a great app though, all computer-related arguments aside.
I tried it out earlier this morning, it's a really neat app.
I've got several PC's at home that run 24/7/365. The only time they get shut down is when I clean them, or they need updates. My HTPC server has been running for right around a year with just reboots occasionally when needed to update WHS, my Linux firewall has been online longer than that (no reboots, doesn't need it), same for my 13 drive Unraid NAS box, only gets shut down for upgrades/cleaning (it sucks in a ton of dust, all those raid-cage fans). My desktop PC is always on, and I access it remotely all the time so it needs to stay up. I'm running Orb on my HTPC, so I can stream video/audio through there, need to check this out as well (Audiogalaxy that is).
I've never actually seen a PC that's caught fire due to being left on before, and I work in the industry. I've heard STORIES of course, but never actually seen it...
I think unless you have a short somewhere, the odds of your computer catching on fire are pretty much nill. The most I could see happening is the processor burning out from over heating, which once again would be from not cleaning the dust out on a regular basis.
Also, wanted to let everyone know that this app is awesome on 3G as well. No stutter, pausing from having to catch up, or etc.. Really great app, and the only thing I could see being a problem is maybe a securty issue because when you use this app you are allowing someone direct access to you computer. This can be solved through your firewall though. Just set your firewall up to only allow access for the program that must be downloaded to only have access to your music folder!
Sent from my HTC Incredible
My computer (that I have talked about above) has caught fire twice. While running.
Each time, a line from the power supply touched a random piece of metal and the entire power line caught fire and melted.
Fun times.

I reboot my computer only after..
3-4 DVD Conversions..
Been playing Crysis for multiple hours..
Really, anything that strains RAM/CPU for long periods of time..
or
Its been on for over a week (its nice to just let it refresh)
Otherwise it's on 24/7.. I built this comp almost 6 years ago? Upgraded the CPU/RAM once.. added an additional HDD and a SSD.
I rid it of dust once a month but beyond that I've yet to have an issue. It started on XP.. sitting on 7 Ultimate now.
Might want to build your own if you've burned down your home at any point.. after you find a new home that is.
For some reason this program won't install on my computer.
Does anyone have the apk for this program? I wanted to try to theme it... actually is there an easy way to just get the apk from the market without installing?
The biggest downside to Audiogalaxy is the pausing between songs. Even if you have a playlist setup and the current song playing is fully cached it will not start to buffer the next song until its actually started
Aside from that been using it since beta and its great overall

AirDroid... yet another like Remote Web Desktop

I'm not, by any means, a developer or affiliated with AirDroid in any way. <--- definitely advertising
I came across this app earlier today and it is honestly one of the most useful apps I've ever seen. It gives one the potential to view his or her messages, calls, contacts, files and everything else on your phone FROM YOUR PC (or Mac) WEB BROWSER. All you have to do is type in a gateway that you get once you open the app on your phone. It'll take you to a log-in screen, which precedes a "desktop" with all of your phone-everything.
One of the coolest things is that it automatically syncs anything you do within the web browser to your phone and vice-versa. I.E. this is one of the few/only app(s) that will show pictures and full contact details within the web browser. Unlike other apps, if you send or receive messages, your phone logs and conversations will also be updated..as if you never used the app to begin with.
Per usual, you need to be connected to the same wifi network from your phone and PC/Mac/iPad/tablet you'll use to "control" your phone.
There aren't any notable downsides that I've read of or come across. This is simply a solid app that has unlimited potential.

As a rule of thumb I delete Kies Air at first because it's bloat to me. But I tried using it as often as I'd use AirDroid. Kies Air is just so slow, laggy and well...bloated. At least the web version. I'm the kind of person who loads saves ALL of his texts. So Kies attempts to automatically load EVERYTHING on your phone at once: texts, calls, music, pictures, videos, files. Software-wise it's not necessarily efficient.
To answer the original question- yes. But this is faster and cleaner in every definition of the words. Much simpler UI with faster transfer speeds and won't hog up your bandwidth because it only loads data as needed.
*Edit from here and below:
I guess the reason for the lag behind Kies Air is due to the fact that it runs a Java applet on your web browser. AirDroid runs a much cleaner JavaScript that's linked with HTML5, as I understand.
It's up to you, of course. But after trying both, I don't think there's any actual competition as to which app is significantly faster and more efficient.

Yes, in some aspects Kies Air does the same thing.
However, AirDroid is 12094820394823 times faster! The ease of the interface is amazing. It's a truly innovative application if you do a lot of files transfers through your phone. I use my phone like a thumb drive all the time. This only makes it easier. Sending messages while doing work on my laptop without having to type on the phone's keyboard? Yes please.
I would easily pay for this app.
I would like to see a novel contact manager built into the app. Something that is really functional and efficient. We all know that google contacts and android's address book are both a little weak in the functionality department. If the developers of the app can make such a solid app, I'm sure they can come up with a creative contact manager to integrate into AirDroid.
awesome app, but it would be even more awesome if u can fully utilize your phone (like literally browse through phone functions on a PC) on the web browser

This looks absolutely amazing. They must have spent quite a bit of time to make this app as awesome as it is. And completely free? Crazy.
Which is the only reason I have qualms about it. How can a company invest so much into an app that generates no revenue whatsoever in the Market?
I am always weary of apps that have complete access to all of your personal information (which the app needs to work correctly) and have no obvious avenue for generating revenue.
Maybe I'm missing something here? Are there ads?
i guess you guys never seen this from 2 years ago? FREE!
Remote Web Desktop
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.xdevelop.rm
apparently this air drive people just ripped off the idea from Remote Web Desktop
i've been using it since AOSP 2.1
Thanks for supporting AirDroid. Actually now, AirDroid also supports remote access to your mobile, even when your mobile is not around and not in the same wifi, you can access it to Web browser by enabling the auto wake up mode in APP.
There should be a screen viewer option.
Nice work

To the first point, Kies is Samsung proprietary. They may do similar things and Airdroid is faster, but for the HTC phones I have, Kies really lacks in the "working" dept.
Secondarily, I am unsure if your statement includes the web-based Google Contacts in desktop browser but I find it quite sufficient for my needs and is obviously synced with Android if you use Google apps.
For every other need, I would imagine the import/export functionality of Google Contacts would make it easily portable to other platforms and then able to be ported back. "Insert simple script here " tacked on to said platform enables full auto sync.

mobrewards.org popup on this site?
i clicked a 'link from an email' about a 'topic reply on this forum' in gmail app on S3
new galaxy s3(not 1 day old )
i got a popup saying i had won something and my location (very dodgey looking)
mobrewards.org
How could i get bad stuff so quickly. it it advertising from this site?
Cheers
I've also started getting these pop-ups recently. Maybe since Wednesday? I too have a SGS3
I don't remember clicking on anything but now every so often I get an offer pop up from mobilerewards.org saying I'm the lucky winner of something.
Rarely, I get a full screen ad from the same company which seems to 'take over' both Chrome Beta and the stock browser screen. I can change tabs but not go back to the previous page. If I press the back button on the phone, it quits either browser.
Used various anti virus and ad checkers but they all report back as clean.
It must be a new ad on the site? Maybe?
Just noticed this downloaded to my phone after one of the ads popped up "FedEx_cycling_728x90_fade.swf". I'm obviously not going to try and open it!
Im getting these for few days now on my Desire. Cant access the forums I want as this pop up thing takes up the screen!
VERY annoying... XDA Developers please do somehthing!
i clicked a reply notification from an email sent by the forum
this is the page it took me to

Hi guys, I'm very new to the site. So firstly, I would like to say hi to you all and let you know that I have the same issue on my HTC Desire.
I've found that this current problem has interrupted my early morning meandering on the web and as a result I am not a happy bunny.
Thus far, I have avoided pressing okay on the pop-up banner or whatever it is. My way around this annoying pop-up, is to press Menu (instead of okay) to get out of it. My deepest fear is that if okay is pressed bad things will happen. However the stupid pop-up returns each time I Google search, or use any Android applications.
Unfortunately, this is the extent of my technical prowess. So I'm a little
I am considering running an anti-virus, then restarting my phone. Not sure if this would help, but it's worth a try.
In the hope that this issue gets resolved, I will keep an eye on this thread.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for the extra info. I got the message again today too,, while checking for repiles about the problem. Slightly ironic.
It only happens when I click an email link to a topic reply for this forum. Are you saying it is happening other times?
Hello.
Having the exact problem.
I have tried using several virus/MALWARE programs to run scans. Avg..etc. No viruses or malware detected. Tried running these antivirus programs with ie protection. Done diddly squat
Found that it occurs everytime if you clear browser history, cookies, cache and close ie down.
Soon as i launch a certain website(for me its trueachievements.com) i get redirected.
Tried searching for mobrewards.org and android rewards and found very little.
Also deleted several of the latest apps that i installed. Had no effect. Started to try disabling some services.
This mob rewards doesnt even register in history. Disabling cookies does stop it thou but obviously that has adverse effects

O.T but on my old phone I started getting an ebay advert in the start thing at the top every time I booted the phone. It appeared after installing angry birds.
I'm going to root soon and add add free android. Hopefully it will fix this.

No worries.
As I said, I first encountered this problem in the early hours of the morning. It just kept popping up on the screen. In my tired state I said that I pressed Menu, but realised that I had pressed the Home key - which got rid of the screen entirely. However it came back each time I tried to Google search, open Facebook or play one of my games (FB game).
Since my earlier post. I have deleted one of two Facebook games which took up about 14mb and funnily enough I have not had a pop-up since.
Time will tell. However I suspect this issue may have something to do with the time of day that I was browsing and using my phone. I have a broken sleeping pattern and have started to play Words With Friends (FB Game) and Draw Something - the FB Game that I deleted and recently stopped playing prior to this problem.
I think this could possibly be something that has been monitoring my internet habits and it rears its ugly head in the early hours of the morning. As opposed to during the day, when I don't use the web as much.
If this is the case, I would suggest that you monitor your internet usage and the time of day that these pop-ups occur. Look at everything you have installed recently and look into anything that you think may be the potential source of the problem.
If this problem persists with me, I would be tempted to back up all of my important information and reset the phone to its original factory settings. I'm not that desperate yet, but will consider it if the going gets tough. And lastly because I am paranoid about security, I would change my passwords. I acknowledge what's good for me might not be good for you. So make sure you consider your options before you do anything drastic.
I hope this helps as I am still really tired. Good luck!

Anyone else who's getting this popup also install the Swype apk posted on the SGS3 forums? Only happened since I installed that, although as it's only happened twice - and when on XDA - it may well be coincidence.
This pop up started when I was using my stumble upon app. Then it started popping up in my dolfin browser
Sent from my SGH-I727R using XDA
Getting the same here on my 1 day old galaxy s3. Really strange, I've got it set up exactly the same as my nexus s all the same apps etc, and never had a problem with that.
I got this once on my practically dead HTC Desire (with practically nothing on it) about four days ago, and once per day on my new SIII since then. I've googled for it several times, it seems to be affecting a wide range of people on different sites, devices, and platforms. But no solution for making it stop had appeared to me as yet. Since it hit my old Desire before I put Swype on my new SIII, I don't think it is the S 3 swype file that was posted here.
I dont have Swype or use FB apps, and just keep getting this irritating pop up.
And it only happens accessing XDA forums!
???
XDA's sure gone downhill fast since the reputable developers started leaving to that other site. First AirPush ads aimed at developers, now full-page popups for paid SMS scams. Hit "back" and it takes you to the page BEFORE the page with the ad.
Way to **** the bed, XDA.

[APP] Google Voice + Messaging (with popup)

Background
I use Google Voice as my primary number, and it's been frustrating that Google has failed to add very many interesting (necessary?) features to their Google Voice app. In addition, they don't have a public API, so it's difficult for developers to work with it. I've been searching for solutions all over the interwebz since Google Voice was Grand Central.
I've been using this app for a few weeks, and have since reached out to the dev, offering help with testing and offer to possibly work with him on design aspects in the future.
Why I think this app is great
• One app to manage your SMS messages (Carrier & Google Voice)
• Google Voice popups and quick reply without another 3rd party app
• Uses your stock messaging database to store messages (backup apps work)
• Very nice to have a Google Voice alternative that actually works
The Futurree
In speaking with the developer, once all bugs are ironed out, he's got plans for future theme addons, more popup options, GV Message sync (difficult).. and possibly *optional* FB Messenger and Twitter DM integration. I've already themed myself a version which I'll post up.
The developer will also be adding LightFlow support soon.
Important Details
The app is a TRIAL, and subsequently is available through in-app purchase.
I'm posting this because I know you hardcore GV users would probably like to check this out... and we all know that Google Play store discovery is still terrible.
Current Bugs
The only bug I've encountered is, when a message is sent while in Landscape mode, it will be sent through your carrier. The dev has acknowledged this and it should be fixed within the next day or two. If you're on Gingerbread, it should work fine, but feel free to chime in if you have issues.
I've also read that MMS may have issues, especially if you're trying to send directly from the Gallery.

My Inverted version of the app:
I'll add screen shots later.
You'll need to uninstall your current version (don't worry about backing up data.. Will be resynced).

Mod edit: Link removed
Note, you won't receive play store updates for this app if you have the inverted version installed, but I'll usually have it updated within hours after a new ver drops.
very nice, will try it out.
Tried it and it's a no-joy for me
I have a Samsung GT-i9100 International (SIM Free) with a pay-as-you-go AT&T GoPhone sim in it.
I just put Android 4.1.2 I9100XWLSE_I9100OXELS6_ALO.zip (I know how to use Odin, etc) and rooted it with CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip thru recovery and off the sd card. Works perfect, not I can us my TB Pro w/root on the phone,
and I got the phone working sweet (I am in the USA and did not want to wait for a OTA or KIES upgrade)
I have GrooVe IP to use Google Voice to make/receive calls over 3G/H+and avoid the $1.00 a day and $0.10 a min AT&T charges.
I text thru GV too. I only give out my GV # because honestly why would I use the carriers # and pay to use a regular phone.
I have looked all over to integrate the native text app into GV and I read that this app would do it.
It does not (for me). I basically have a stock ROM rooted with a IP telephone program on it and the data packages are $25 for 1 GB and then I buy a 5MB package for $5 every 30 days and the amount rolls over. So a cell phone for $5 a month, yeah, on AT&T, YEAH! but this app does not integrate with the stock/plain messaging app.
I have followed all the instruction, disable notifications, etc. as listed on the PLAY store and the website.
It is (from what I can tell) work with 4.1.2 because the screen shots he's got up there do not look like the one's I have and I did not see anywhere that it asked to use GV for native SMS.
So maybe someone has seen this, done this and got it working......
any info?
thanks
philmiami
ok I guess I figured it out
This does NOT integrate into the EXISTING text app. It is separate entirely. So I just move the icon for the stock one from the menu bar and put this one down here. Disable in GV like it says and it works as described....
Guess i should have spent more time with it, good thing I got 3 different cell phones to work with to implement this.
I really want to save my $0.20 per message
PS:
Got it working it just replaces the native messaging app, works with GV and bam......free SMS :good::good::good:

Interesting. Those of us using GV have but few choices indeed. I haven't looked yet so questions might be answered elsewhere I suppose. Still..
How does this app know about new texts? Does it check directly or does it rely on GV notification?
Are the popups user definable? (Droid Notify comes to mind)
Is there a repeat reminder option? (Droid Notify comes to mind)
How much memory does it require while monitoring events? Is it a service or can it be easily terminated by the minfree manager?
How long is the trial?
I gotta go and read more before asking more questions..

I'm replying with Tapa talk, so bare with me
1. AFAIK, the app is dependent on the Google Voice app, which needs to be installed and configured. (See play store notes). It does not rely on GV notification, though.
2-3.Popups are not yet user definable, but I've spoken with the developer and have suggested this. Options in droid notify, notifierpro, and light flow are my inspiration
4. Memory as a cached process right now is 14MB. I'd have to check ROM Toolbox to see the actual events, but compared to other apps I've tried, it's relatively light and doesn't require extensive permissions. FWIW, I'm using a Note2.
5. The original trial was a small number of messages. I talked to the dev and he extended it. It could still be longer and I'm going to push for that. I bought it the first day tho.. I actually paid $8 . Lol. I highly recommended he lower it, and he did.. But totally worth it for me either way.
Hope that answers your questions

Sounds good. Although I do like the Droid Notify popups I can live with a simple taskbar notification. What is important (to me) is the ability to set reminders for every X minutes, ideally different first sms and voicemail. If the dev would consider adding a missed call reminder as well I could take another app out.

Not too bad, especially if I can remove or even or two things. I am on an HTC HD2 which is a bit memory starved with everything I am doing.
