Is there any guide on commonly used slang & abbreviations used in the XDA forums?
Words like FC what does it mean etc?
It's o the very bottom of the main forum page .
Thanks! Found it, still FC is not explained on any of the 5 pages....
FC = Force Close
Some of the main things that might confuse you are abbreviations for phone names. For example, DHD would be an HTC Desire HD, Inc would be an Incredible, Mes would be a Mesmerize, etc.

I have in the last few months purchased a htc desire to replace my motorola dext (cliq).
With my previous phone I have plenty of modding experience (if anyone knows anything about the cliq they'll understand)
But due to the rules here I am unable to offer my advice and knowledge wih rom issues, of which there have been a few with desire roms.
If any mods read this, can you please remove the restrictions in place on my account, so I can participate actively in the htc desire development section, and be able to help out fellow modders.
Regards
Ryan

Running in to the same issue with Xoom.
I've been working on this for over a year but I can't post cuzz of the newb rulls.
As far as I'm concerned we're all here to learn from others and let others learn from ourselves.
This is the only android forum I've come across with this ridiculous rule in place, restricting the sharing of knowledge because I'm deemed too " inexperienced".
Just because I'm new too XDA obviously means I'm new too android as well. Its a joke.

Guys, it is so easy just post 10 postings (you can do that in an hour) and all restrictions are removed. It is easy as saying in a posting "i agree" or " wow, interesting" do 10 pointless postings and you are good to go
Thanks for the advice, but its not really the point.

Don't make pointless and meaningless posts outside of Off-Topic.
Also, try to contribute
I am in the same boat wanted to post but I guess Ill need 9 more
interesting
interesting ;-)
the only posting limit before 10 posts is development areas. (about 1/6 of the forums)
if you are a developer, use you vast knowledge to help 10 people
if you have a question about something in development ask your question in Q&A
but search first. it is better to reply to a pre-existing thread than to start a new one!
(this thread case in point)
there is no reason to complain or spam post " i agree "
Interesting! (sorry, needed 1 more)

That rather highlights the foolishness of having a 10-post restriction. Just about anyone will look at this and go, okay, let's just post 10 worthless messages and get around the restriction. In the end it does nothing to promote a better quality of user while at the same time clogging up the general forums with messages that are a complete waste of time and disk space. Like this one.
10 post restriction
I agree totally!
9 more to go!
And now theres people wanting to change off-topic to also having the 10 post restriction? I dont get it

Hey my friend pointed out that they split the themes and apps section into two separate ones on the epic forums. I think that would be appreciated here also
Here's a link to that thread

Yes, this was done in the epic 4g forums. IMO its much cleaner, I know, atleast with the epic, there is about just as many apps as there is themes so it gets awfully cluttered and gets difficult to find thing.

Bump? Seriously 120 views and only 2 people who agree, are we the only ones who wonder why it's one category to begin with?

They are trying something similar with sgs2 development forums. I definitely think it would help clean things up and hopefully stop a few needless questions

To be honest I am nit sure why there is an apps section for every device anyway. We have an android app section that I beleice should hold all the android apps. Mostly due to them being universal with the exception of a small few. It is being looked into
Great request. And yes, it can get cluttered.

Hi evebody
I just got my tab 2 10.1 today and one of the reasons I moved from my old tablet with honeycomb is the spellchecking option, the one that underline the wrong ones, but is not here!!!, after reading some post about it, there should be a spelling correction option in languages and inputs but there isn't, any idea what may be wrong here?
I REALLY meet it hehe
Thank in advance
Cheers!!
Tab 2 10.1 Spell Checker
Page 184 of the GT-P5113 user manual has the answer to your question....
Thanks mate, but that page just talk about the predictive text, which is the same as honeycomb Android. And like I said in my original post I'm looking for how to turn on the new "fancy" spellcheck system, just like office, which underlines all the wrong spelled words in a document.
Anybody????
Thanks
I would think that spell checking would be contingent on your word processing program. I'm hoping that you weren't expecting the tablet to spell check everything that it comes across.
Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk 2
Well supposedly ICS has a built in spell checker, you can see it the following link, just like in many others.
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4318?noredirect=true
And yes it's supposed to spell check in multiple applications
No body here is using it????
Cheers!
That is the stock ics (Google aosp) keyboard. Samsung has their own, and even my phone, has HTC trace as it's stock keyboard.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G with Beats Audio using Tapatalk 2
And does your HTC trace keyboard underline the wrong spelled words??
The Samsung keyboard doesn't
And do you have ics too?
Thanks
PD just another post about what I'm talking about
http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...lt-spell-check-android-word-processors-2.html
I actually finally ran into the red underlined spell check.. I was on the Nike store, and filling out my billing info of all places.. Unfortunately, I it was with my phone (ics).. I'll check with my tablet.
Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk 2
Don't worry. I know exactly what you mean, i had the feature on my Samsung vibrant running cm9. Now i use an HTC one s, which has ics/sense 4.0 with the HTC trace keyboard, but it still has the same feature. That feature is implemented into ics and operates independently from the keyboard. It seems though, that sammy took it out. It's not the only ics feature they took out, so them taking this one out doesn't come to a surprise. Either aosp based rom or sammy update is your only hope, just don't hold your breath on the latter.

no I've had spelling correction while filling out fields on the tablet. Click on a word when you are typing.

so, really? the only solution is to install a new rom? This mean root the tablet right?

the operative term is theming
themeing would be the "overall" look, just looking at skins
The htc skins? Maybe htc dev?
Google android theming you will find tones

Well, u can decompile one of the skins that are available on the One X but the only problem is the really cool things to theme in Sense like the flip clock, lock ring, nav bar, etc... are all decoded in an m10 format which I don't believe anyone had ever even heard of until Sense 3.0 came out. So some brilliant developers on XDA built an m10 editor to decompile the m10's so you could see the images and theme them. But that tool has not been updated yet to work with Sense 4.0 so you are limited on what your able to theme. Hope that made sense.
Yea makes sense, too bad the images are compiled ad well, unlike the iphone

Well u don't have to decompile typically to edit just images but a lot of the cool things in Sense that I mentioned are compiled in the m10 format. Only device I've ever used that was like that has been HTC's with Sense 3.0 and up.
A good place to start is UOT Kitchen. While its not rocket science, there is a learning curve, and a fair amount of reading before you dive in. UOT Kitchen.com has complete guides to get you started. Good luck; hope it works out for you.
Just a heads up: I dont recommend flooding the forum with "how do I do this" or" I'm stuck please help" threads, as it tends to get the natives restless. If you get stuck, persevere, read, read some more, then read again. It's the best way to learn.

the only thing i want to know is which phone has the best development on roms and generaly everywhere?
Stop with these threads. Enough. They both run ROMs. They both have a good amount of development.
you could just say both and finish there and not to be so rude to me .
And you can use the search function like the rules say and dig up one of a hundred threads with the same title and the same questions that end in the same flamewar.
Please see the sticky in this section for such questions. Closed.
