[Q] Update – HTC Desire HD Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update - General Questions and Answers

Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.36.405.5. Update: Android 2.3 upgrade. Note:Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. I tried but with no luck (
Any ideeas??

so what exactly is your question and what does it have to do with the apps and games thread?

I tried too! But nothing. No updates...

its UK only...

I am in uk and seems like there is no update yet for us...

I have received this upgrade and have had nothing but trouble since installing it. I was wondering if there was a way I can put my phone back to the way it was?
Basically, since the update, the only difference in my phone that I notice is an app called "Dock" which is basically a new screen for when you are driving. I have had nothing but trouble receiving calls or texts and at worst, I have received texts 26 hours after they were sent. My work depends on my company being able to contact me at any given time which, since the update, they have had a great difficulty doing.
Is there any way I can roll back the phone to the previous software as HTC and my network company are shockingly bad at making any attempt to solve the problem?
Thanks

Letter from Motorola:
10/12/11:
Hi.
"I want to thank you for providing feedback on the Droid 2 Global Gingerbread upgrade. The feedback from Motorola Feedback Network members helped us identify a serious issue and stop the general distribution of the software before a larger number of owners were impacted. I want to personally thank you for your contribution -- it is just this kind of thing that demonstrates the value of this group.
Now we've put in the needed changes to eliminate this single serious issue and we're ready to resume the rollout. Because you provided feedback before, we will include you in the initial push and ask again for your feedback.
We will not do a private community as we think we understand the strengths and gaps of this software based on our first soak. I will be sending a survey -- maybe two -- to make sure that you are able to update, and to see that the encryption issue that caused us to delay has truly been addressed.
Expect the push of a new load tomorrow. You should see no change in how the device operates overall -- unless you encountered the encryption issue. That should disappear.
I will send out a survey tomorrow -- in the event that you have any update problems, use that to let me know.
Again, many thanks for participating in the Motorola Feedback Network. You are really making a difference.
Regards,
- Matt

VERY interested in the improvements to system stability and GSM radio .. just last week I lent my (currently idle) D2G to a friend, and now the update that sounded forever away, suddenly appears.. by the time I get around to getting the handset back, this will probably be old news
If somebody could update this thread when it's actually released, I'd really appreciate it. Would love to make a backup of my current Fusion install, SBF, and then give it a shot.
Ok here the news straight from Verizon Tech suport the update is scheduled to roll 615am cen time ...
Off network install
Will there be a way to install this update if I am not connected to the VZW network? I am currently living in Saudi Arabia (i am from Kansas(insert joke here)) and I am using the STC network with their sim card. I can not get connected wifi due to the proxy problem either.
I am able to install .apk files with android manager, but I first need the downloadable file.
Thanks,
george
i dont think so, but no worries, im sure by the time youll get a chance to install, there will be a downloadable file, if your phone has 5g you can probably download it directly to your phone.
You don't need to be on the Verizon Wireless network for the update to be able to be installed.
Any data connection, be it GSM/UMTS 2G/2.5G/3G, or WiFi, will suffice. The update process is performed over the TCP/IP stack. In case you want to get it over cellular data, you need to remember that the update is about 105MB in size.
About proxies: there are a few applications available on the market that allow you to set Android's proxy configuration, though I am not sure if these settings affect anything besides the web browser.

I'm in the Florida Keys at the moment. Nothing available here yet. I think I'll go for a swim before checking again
The update was released @ 06:15 CET and is going out in groups; grouping is probably done by device MEIDs.
You can go to a Verizon store and ask them to push the update to your handset, though.
Doses man the wait it killin me I was light hell yea when tech support said 615 lol he didnt mention nothing about being in line for it lol

[Q] Motorola Defy+ stock 2.3.6 update causes reboot when connecting to phone network

I bought a refurbished Motorola Defy+ which came preinstalled with Gingerbread 2.3.4. Out of the box, the phone was able to receive calls, although I didn't test making calls at that time.
I ran the stock Software Update from Settings, and this installed 2.3.6 on the phone. Since that point, I can no longer make or receive calls on the phone. As soon as the phone tries to make the connection, it reboots: either when making a call into the phone, at the first ring, or when dialing out. I have confirmed that it's not the dialer itself that is the problem by using different dialer apps.
I have performed a full factory reset on the phone and tried with wifi, etc turned off but it has made no difference at all. Other features of the phone are absolutely fine and I have had no unexpected reboots due to any other cause.
After searching around it seems quite a few people have had problems with their Defy+ rebooting, but this is generally either during a call or just randomly. In my case it is absolutely at the exact time that it tries to make the phone network connection and at no other time.
Could this be a hardware problem, or is it more likely to be the 2.3.6 ROM installed by the software update? If I install another ROM, is it likely to fix the problem? If so, how would I go about downgrading the phone to the 2.3.4 version?
Thanks in advance.
OK, I jumped the gun.
I hadn't actually connected to any of my mobile phone network's APNs at the time I posted the above. Now that I have configured it to connect via 2G or 3G, I get random reboots all the time.
Not that this helps or anything.

[Q] No Text or Voice after Stock upgrade

Hello all,
Me and My Wife both have New Photon Qs, Mine has been rooted, Custom Recovery and all that on the newest stock rom.
Hers it completely stock, she moved to upgrade it to the newest release last night the upgrade went off without a hitch however not when she calls out she gets an audible error "Error 16, Switch 321" and Texts Fail to send, how ever 3G works, 4G not available in out area,
I kept both of our MSL codes and compare settings, nothing different except the obvious, Also forced a Reactivation on her phone ##RTN# this did not work either.
As she is still well within her 14 day return, and 30 sprint warranties, should I have them swap this phone out?
Sprint was not much help in this Matter
Try to force a PRL update.
Then I would at least have Sprint look at it.

yeah, after the update, phone service can fail. when she makes a call, if she stays on the line the error should redirect her to Sprint Tech who SHOULD be able to fix it and tell her to reboot the phone. i went thru that 2 or 3 times(messing with my phone and re-updating ). i think i tried manual methods but to no avail.
Thank you both for the replies, I have Forced the PRL and just forwarded your message yogi2010, to her to have her try it as I am at work

cool, that should do the trick. i just remembered she will have to provide the account PIN or answer the security question to authorize the reset.
She has all security info, I guess as of this morning, after leaving it off all night, she can make phone calls again, just not Text

I just accidentally bought a rooted HTC M8 on eBay with issues. Should I keep it?!

I am in Australia and have just recently bought an HTC M8 on eBay which was originally listed as new, and factory unlocked for $530. A few days later I found out it was actually rooted now unlocked, but was originally locked to Sprint. This was confirmed by a Sprint Connections application update etc, and the root was confirmed by the SuperSU app that was already installed in the phone. I'm recently confirmed this by the Root Checker app.
My phone's software is Android version 4.4.2, HTC Sense 6, software number 1.54.651.8, HTC SDK api LEVEL 6.17, PRI version 1.52_003, Kernel version [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT, Baseband version 1.05.20.0321_2.
The phone is pretty functional for everyday use except for the following issues:
- The internet network settings had to be manually obtained from my carrier as the phone did not automatically pick it up.
- The internet seems slower than usual (Signal strength -79 dBm 17-20 asu) compared to my old phone (Xperia Z1), despite the settings being specifically on 3G/UTMS mode which is faster than having it on Global Mode, and the required setting with my carrier Optus.
- I cannot access anything under System Updates. i.e. Update profile, Update PRL, UCICC Unlock and most importantly, HTC software update. This update takes >20minutes to search to no avail. This error message at times pops up when I try selecting Update profile: “vDM Client has stopped unexpectedly. An error report will be sent to HTC to help us improve our products”. This error screen would pop up intermittently when my internet didn't work but, I rarely see it now.
- Wifi would randomly switch on. I've turned off all system selections that may be caused on this. I haven’t tried booting my phone into safe mode to determine if an app is causing this.
I don't know much about phones (I had no idea what rooting was until I looked it up to get a rough idea), so I'm wondering if you experts could be some advice
I'm planning on keeping the phone for about 2 years and wondering what issues I may receive from having a rooted phone with the already above issues? Would the phone play up more? Can I use my current android version for that period relatively smoothly?
I am able to return my phone for a full refund but I don't have a spare phone and don't want to go in to the hassle of doing so if I can keep the phone (I would prefer to leave them negative feedback on eBay to be honest ). What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance for any asisstance.
Update your phone to android 4. 4. 4

Just reflash the stock rom and relock the bootloader and everything should be fine.

LG stylo 5 No service.

Hi there! I've recently had an issue with my phone where i have no service. My bars have a little x next to them, as though i have data turned off.
Here's the info I've gathered:
My preferred network option is stuck on 22.
It tell me to connect to WiFi (despite being connected) when i attempt to send a text, but tells me to turn off airplane mode when trying to make a call
Nothing data related works, but WiFi is fine.
Now, I've found another thread from early 2022 with the same exact issue. Only thing is, they were having the issue after updating to Android 10.
My phone is still on Android 9. Like, I'm pretty sure its not even the most recent version of 9 either. Like, i have build number PKQ1.190302.001, which isn't the latest build for even 9, let alone 10 and onwards. However, i can't update. I've checked in the settings and everything, it keeps telling me there's no update available, which i don't believe.
I get my service through Boost Mobile, so I'm not sure if they didn't get the update, or if something else is going on. Either way, i have no service, which is a serious problem as i have no other phone and can't get a new one until late February.
I'm sorry if making a new thread wasn't a good idea, its just the only other thread I've found was from a year ago, and my issue is technically different.
Thank you in advance for any help!
