YOUR DROID 2 GLOBAL BY MOTOROLA
JUST GOT EVEN BETTER.
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update, Version.4.5.600.A956.Verizon.en.US,
for your Droid 2 Global by Motorola. This update provides several improvements for your device, as
well as upgrading to the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Operating System (OS).
Droid 2 Global by Motorola
SOFTWARE UPDATE
****Lastest update 10/12/11:
Everything must be squared away now, as the new build of 4.5.608 has been approved and should be made available shortly. Normally when these support documents arrive, the update shows up within a week or so.
Letter from Motorola:
10/12/11:
Hi.
"I want to thank you for providing feedback on the Droid 2 Global Gingerbread upgrade. The feedback from Motorola Feedback Network members helped us identify a serious issue and stop the general distribution of the software before a larger number of owners were impacted. I want to personally thank you for your contribution -- it is just this kind of thing that demonstrates the value of this group.
Now we've put in the needed changes to eliminate this single serious issue and we're ready to resume the rollout. Because you provided feedback before, we will include you in the initial push and ask again for your feedback.
We will not do a private community as we think we understand the strengths and gaps of this software based on our first soak. I will be sending a survey -- maybe two -- to make sure that you are able to update, and to see that the encryption issue that caused us to delay has truly been addressed.
Expect the push of a new load tomorrow. You should see no change in how the device operates overall -- unless you encountered the encryption issue. That should disappear.
I will send out a survey tomorrow -- in the event that you have any update problems, use that to let me know.
Again, many thanks for participating in the Motorola Feedback Network. You are really making a difference.
Regards,
- Matt

VERY interested in the improvements to system stability and GSM radio .. just last week I lent my (currently idle) D2G to a friend, and now the update that sounded forever away, suddenly appears.. by the time I get around to getting the handset back, this will probably be old news

If somebody could update this thread when it's actually released, I'd really appreciate it. Would love to make a backup of my current Fusion install, SBF, and then give it a shot.

Ok here the news straight from Verizon Tech suport the update is scheduled to roll 615am cen time ...

Off network install
Will there be a way to install this update if I am not connected to the VZW network? I am currently living in Saudi Arabia (i am from Kansas(insert joke here)) and I am using the STC network with their sim card. I can not get connected wifi due to the proxy problem either.
I am able to install .apk files with android manager, but I first need the downloadable file.
Thanks,
george

i dont think so, but no worries, im sure by the time youll get a chance to install, there will be a downloadable file, if your phone has 5g you can probably download it directly to your phone.

You don't need to be on the Verizon Wireless network for the update to be able to be installed.
Any data connection, be it GSM/UMTS 2G/2.5G/3G, or WiFi, will suffice. The update process is performed over the TCP/IP stack. In case you want to get it over cellular data, you need to remember that the update is about 105MB in size.
About proxies: there are a few applications available on the market that allow you to set Android's proxy configuration, though I am not sure if these settings affect anything besides the web browser.

I'm in the Florida Keys at the moment. Nothing available here yet. I think I'll go for a swim before checking again

The update was released @ 06:15 CET and is going out in groups; grouping is probably done by device MEIDs.
You can go to a Verizon store and ask them to push the update to your handset, though.

Doses man the wait it killin me I was light hell yea when tech support said 615 lol he didnt mention nothing about being in line for it lol

People That Have Received The Update

Can you post the address you were sent to in order to D/L it?
The update is sent ota (over the air). You dont manually install it, its all automatic.
what if your running on the AT&T network and not T-Mobile....will it still update OTA?
can you check the device info (use anycut->activities->device info) and tell us all the info displayed?

Understand it's OTA but from what I have heard, you receive an SMS and click YES is you want to install. Therefore, presume that "yes" is a link?
OTA doesn't always mean it's pushed over a dedicated channel... just means it is downloaded to the phone rather than a computer
I have mine connected via AT&T and this is what it says

No, you don't receive an sms.
so when will a update program be available for non T-mobile users?
Would tmobile release an update for someone not using their service?
It's hard to say, get a prepaid sim. Don't use it, just stick it in there one night a week from now after the update is out for everyone.

OK cool...so has anyone been awake when this update came through? Does it just suddenly power off and restart?
What update are ya talking about, I didn't hear about an update?
Havent gotten the update yet. I know some of the news said it was supposed to happen between the 23rd and the 26. Phone Still shows RC19, wonder when i will get my update.
If you look at Device Info it shows you if it is downloading an update. This will be the key factor. And I believe that is what prompts you to update.
After reading what the update does....not concerned about getting it any longer. Nothing that will be truly noticeable to most.
Update?
Greetings all..
What does this update do exactly, my specs match those posted....

[Q] Update – HTC Desire HD Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update

Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.36.405.5. Update: Android 2.3 upgrade. Note:Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. I tried but with no luck (
Any ideeas??
so what exactly is your question and what does it have to do with the apps and games thread?
I tried too! But nothing. No updates...
its UK only...
I am in uk and seems like there is no update yet for us...
I have received this upgrade and have had nothing but trouble since installing it. I was wondering if there was a way I can put my phone back to the way it was?
Basically, since the update, the only difference in my phone that I notice is an app called "Dock" which is basically a new screen for when you are driving. I have had nothing but trouble receiving calls or texts and at worst, I have received texts 26 hours after they were sent. My work depends on my company being able to contact me at any given time which, since the update, they have had a great difficulty doing.
Is there any way I can roll back the phone to the previous software as HTC and my network company are shockingly bad at making any attempt to solve the problem?
Thanks

New to T-Mobile, just got G2x, easy questions...

Hey guys I am a brand new T-Mobile customer as of yesterday (coming from US Cellular) and I got the G2x phone. Previously I had the Mesmerize (Galaxy S).
I've got just a couple questions that are probably simple enough. First of all, as soon as I got the phone last night, I downloaded the LG Update Tool from the LG website and updated the phone to Gingerbread. Now today it appears the update is OTA. Is the update I got last night the same as the OTA update, so I don't need to update again?
For whatever reason, when I go into the settings to check for updates, it keeps saying there was an authentication error rather than just saying there are no updates. Is that normal? My build number is GRI40 and Android version is 2.3.3.
Second, on my old phone, in the pull down menu, at the top there were buttons to toggle WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and silent mode. On this phone, there is nothing there, just big letters that say T-Mobile. Is there a way to get the toggle switches? I found them pretty useful.
And lastly, in the pull down menu, it constantly says I have a new voice mail and to dial some weird number, with no way to clear it. I've already set up my voice mail box and I don't have any messages. What is this notification that won't go away? Thanks for any help!
PS:
Any easy way to root this phone?

The update is the same. In your phone settings under about it should say Android Version 2.3.3 and v21e. The pull down menu toggles are available with Cyanogenmod and some other custom ROM's. As far as your notification that won't go away, not really sure whats up with that. On a personal note, I would take that phone right back to the store and exchange it for a Sensation. I've been an Android user since the G1 and I can say without doubt this is the worst phone I've ever owned. It is plagued with bugs.

Welcome to the G2x!! In the next few hours you will either be flamed for buying a crappy phone, or welcomed for buying a Great phone. I personally think its a great phone.
Your questions:
1. The LG update and the TMO OTA are almost the same. Same basebands and builds. Looks like the OTA does change some icon colors. Stay tuned here for how to get both.
2. There is NO in the top bar tool for that. But there is a widget called power control that does the same thing. Check it out.
3. I really don't know about the voice mail and will leave that to someone else.
As far as rooting, there are several good how to root and how to 1 step root threads located on this forum. Its quick and easy. Make sure you look at the Recovery threads too for the easy 1 step recovery options. You'll find these located in the General sub forum
And remember, use the search feature for any questions....many have already been answered. Check out the search feature in the general sub forum and type, How to root your g2x, or how to mod your g2x. You will get some good hits.
Welcome.
Search sucks, isn't always that easy.
But I can definately recommend you read the stickies here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049154
They are very very helpful.
Thanks guys... I fixed the voice mail notification by sending myself a voicemail from another phone and then deleting it from mine.
So does anybody else get a authentication error when they use the phone to check for a software update after having used the LG Updater to install Gingerbread? In my phone the build is listed as GRI40, but on the LG Update Tool it reads the phone's build as V21E.
EDIT:
And I was seriously considering the Sensation. But in the end, the only advantage seemed to be the extra 128MB of RAM, which doesn't seem to help in benchmarks or usage. At first I thought qHD was going to be an advantage, but the screen just didn't pop and seemed washed out... unlike the G2X which looked much nicer, and I believe is IPS. Also from all the reviews I've seen the Tegra 2 seems faster than the dual core Snapdragon and Adreno 220 in the Sensation. Plus the Sensation having 1GB of internal storage is kind of lame, where as the G2X has 8GB!
With regard to the feature toggle widgets, I use a tool from the market called Elixir. It lets you set up your own widgets, among other cool things. For example, I have a widget on my home screen that has seven (not four) widgets across: silent/vibrate/normal ringer; wifi; GPS; Bluetooth; wifi hotspot; battery status; and day/date.
I got g2x and sensation. Only thing good on sensation is camera, and sense sucks. Screen like you say is washed out

I just accidentally bought a rooted HTC M8 on eBay with issues. Should I keep it?!

I am in Australia and have just recently bought an HTC M8 on eBay which was originally listed as new, and factory unlocked for $530. A few days later I found out it was actually rooted now unlocked, but was originally locked to Sprint. This was confirmed by a Sprint Connections application update etc, and the root was confirmed by the SuperSU app that was already installed in the phone. I'm recently confirmed this by the Root Checker app.
My phone's software is Android version 4.4.2, HTC Sense 6, software number 1.54.651.8, HTC SDK api LEVEL 6.17, PRI version 1.52_003, Kernel version [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT, Baseband version 1.05.20.0321_2.
The phone is pretty functional for everyday use except for the following issues:
- The internet network settings had to be manually obtained from my carrier as the phone did not automatically pick it up.
- The internet seems slower than usual (Signal strength -79 dBm 17-20 asu) compared to my old phone (Xperia Z1), despite the settings being specifically on 3G/UTMS mode which is faster than having it on Global Mode, and the required setting with my carrier Optus.
- I cannot access anything under System Updates. i.e. Update profile, Update PRL, UCICC Unlock and most importantly, HTC software update. This update takes >20minutes to search to no avail. This error message at times pops up when I try selecting Update profile: “vDM Client has stopped unexpectedly. An error report will be sent to HTC to help us improve our products”. This error screen would pop up intermittently when my internet didn't work but, I rarely see it now.
- Wifi would randomly switch on. I've turned off all system selections that may be caused on this. I haven’t tried booting my phone into safe mode to determine if an app is causing this.
I don't know much about phones (I had no idea what rooting was until I looked it up to get a rough idea), so I'm wondering if you experts could be some advice
I'm planning on keeping the phone for about 2 years and wondering what issues I may receive from having a rooted phone with the already above issues? Would the phone play up more? Can I use my current android version for that period relatively smoothly?
I am able to return my phone for a full refund but I don't have a spare phone and don't want to go in to the hassle of doing so if I can keep the phone (I would prefer to leave them negative feedback on eBay to be honest ). What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance for any asisstance.

[G900P][Q] Any experience with OTA CPE1 yet?

At about 5:00am today, I was notified that an Over-The-Air Update is available for my stock Sprint Galaxy S5 hardware number SM-G900P. Googling got me no info on this update, and all the info Samsung pushed on me is typed at the bottom of this post.
Has anyone let it update your phone yet?
Did anything notable change after you ran the update?
Did any settings you loved go away?
Did any new settings turn up?
What Android version number do you have after the update?
Relax, and tell us about your mother.
Anything else you feel is pertinent?
Please post on this thread to let us cautious adopters (a.k.a. chickens) get a picture of how safe (or unsafe) this update may or may not be.
Good luck, everyone!! Thanks!

i wasnt aware that a PE1 baseband was released. I guess we'll just have to stay tuned to see what info turns up
i just looked on sammobile.com, and the pca baseband was the most recent one showing there. Weirdness :/
It's only 187mb. The only difference at least for me is WiFi not turning on by itself.
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Thanks. WiFi turning itself on is really annoying. I won't miss that!
Edit: I ran the update. WiFi still turns itself on. The second warranty is up this baby is getting rooted.
Also the so-called lag-free camera which always took a long time to focus takes MUCH longer to focus now. Much. Longer.
I received the update notification but I was afraid to accept it for fear of losing root.
1) Does the update remove root?
2) If so, can the update be rooted?
Tried updating but it just boots into custom recovery. You must reinstall stock recovery to utilize update. Not worth it imho
Somebody know how to root on that build CPE1 or CPE2?
