[Q] Gap along left side of screen - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else have a gap between the screen and the bezel on the left (or any) side of their TF? Mine has a gap that runs the entire length of the screen. All of the other sides seem flush.
I hate to do this to anyone who just hadn't noticed a gap on theirs, but I came across someone else who noticed the same thing on theirs and it made me look at mine. If this is a common problem then I won't fret it, particularly with stock being so low at the moment.
My only concern would be whether or not the gap would allow dust to get under the screen. That's a flaw that I wouldn't accept...

Seems common around here. Can you post a picture so that those that haven't gotten one that see what you guys are talking about?!
Thanks!

I don't have a gap anywhere near as big, I have a really tiny lightgap at the lower right corner of the screen, no lightbleed there though and I have to be literally looking at it from a 170ยบ+ angle.

thanks, i would hav never noticed that...

Okay, not a lot of time to get a pic, but here's a try. You can see the connector for the volume and power buttons (I'm guessing) through the gap. It's this size for the entire length of the left side.

oh no I don't have that.

I had the exact same thing from my first unit, i returned it to Fry's (where I got it). The second one doesn't have a gap. Manufacture defect! Yours look pretty big. The one I got was pretty small, i can see the buttons btn the gap, but it was only paper thin.

Mine's not as large as it looks here. I might swap it out for a new one if there's stock by the time my Amazon 30-day return is up.

Mine is barely noticeable. Definitely not enough to bother me, but you can tell a difference if you look very closely.

Mine had a small gap along the bottom. Seemed to be more of an issue of the metal frame being slightly out of plum. I was able to straighten it my running my thumb along the length of it with just a little pressure.

No gap at all on mine

Mine has a paper thin gap. Only noticeable as you can see the metal of the HDMI port if you hold it at a specific angle. But as I have no dust and no light bleed at all I don't think I will exchange it.

Well on the top right side of my transformer, right next to the webcam so like
-------------------- -------------------
l-------------------o------------------l
very messed up diagram, but the "o" is the webcam, the red part is the metal on the top.
it makes a clicking noise when i push on it
very soft though

I've got the gap too. Noticeable enough to reply to this post. I first saw it the day I opened the box right by the volume rocker as the pic above shows.

Upon very close inspection there is a slight gap on the left hand side, but I have to look lol

I have the non flush screen on the right hand side. About right in the center of the right side.

Coating problem

My day old Raphael is showing some coating problems. This morning I thought I saw a speck of dust. Tried to wipe it clean and the coating came off. Think what you like, but if you look at the two left circles you can see for yourself. No way a key or chain or whatever can do that. No damage just coating that isn/t there anymore at the size of <1mm. Send HTC an email, wondering what their reaction will be. Keep you posted!

Sorry to hear the bad luck, Good luck with HTC but I would not hold my breath
I would (for a one day device).
it is the anodize on the brushed aluminum... anodize is an electrochemical plating that is used to keep aluminum from oxidizing. either the aluminum wasn't prepped properly or the plating process was seriously flawed...or both. Anodize should hold up better but can easily be scratched by another metal...in aerospace, anodize is always followed up with a MIL spec primer and an optional top-coat of enamel.

I have got so this problem.Already have you got answer from HTC?
same problem here
I have the same problem.
Black coating comes off at different spots without any contact to sharp items (especially as my Touch PRO never goes into my pocket without it's case).
My phone is only 10 days old, and I asked 2call.nl to take it back and replace it.
They said I have to go to HTC directly, but HTC sais that the retailer is responsible for replacement for devices not older than 14days.
I feel like a ping pong ball, but agree to HTC and will put more preasure on 2call.nl.
They have to take it back by law, and I will not accept "go and try at HTC".
Will keep you posted.
I've found two other users experiencing same problems. One of them also bought it from 2call if I'm not mistaken. He got his replaced. Mine is from a different store. Bummer, I really don't feel for some pingpong. Keep you posted... Mail response: Give us a call. Yeah right so they can say its not our problem because its not 14 days old...
I have noticed that HTC has used factory "touch-up" which is basically a black sharpie marker to spot-cover some of the damaged finish where the anodize is damaged for whatever reason. You can really see this if you slide the keyboard out and look under the aluminum trim (edge that gets covered when the keyboard is closed). In the right light, the "touched-up" areas will have a distinct purple tint instead of black. Take a look, most units I have looked at have some degree of repair. Problem is, black marker comes off pretty quick and you are left with silver spots everywhere. Someone, in HTC manufacturing made a huge mistake and the build quality suffered tremendously... I love the hardware and the features of the TouchPro but the build quality is the worst I have seen... I am an aerospace engineer and I see this all the time. Just my 2 cents...
As long as the screen is okay, I wouldn't sweat it. Kinda like bumpers on cars, made for bumping
I was going to recommend a light touch with a permanent overhead marker pen, good thing about being black - didn't realise the manufacturers basically do the same thing...!
Remember back to when I was young and put a scratch on the front of my brand new Spectrum 48K - black marker to the rescue. I've even used them on the edge of book bindings that sometimes get scuffed...
From the photo though the long one seems more like a scratch, perhaps done at manufacture, and now the cover up has worn off. The points are what I would associate with non take up of the anodize.

Battery door issue

My battery door at the top on the left and right are not completely flush with the device. There is not a huge gap, but you can see it's not flush. Is anyone else's like this, is this something I should be worried about ?

Seems good, as I said it's not very bad just a bit on each side. It just isn't 100% flush.
Hmmm...it should be flushed
Are you sure the door is latched securely? Sometimes I must really force mine to close. Like sporty377 said, this can affect your signal if the door isn't completely secured.
I am disappointed with the overall quality of the TB exterior. It pales in comparison to my old N1. Seems like HTC did a rush job and threw together a bunch of leftover stuff from the parts bin and said F*ck it. People will buy it regardless, just get it out to the carriers.
Its snapped all the way down. I will get some pics in a few. It doesn't seem like it's affecting anything.
Pics added. Best pics I could get, which it sort of looks worse in the pics. I don't see it affecting anything. This is a like new bolt, and I have other other like new that is like this also. I do have one more coming tomorrow, which I only hope may be better.

There are a number of "catch points" that need to be squeezed tight and snapped into place around the outer edge of the cover.
If it is tight, and it is within the first 30 days (or did it change to 14--can't recall), and if it's troublesome, have VZW either give you an entirely new phone or a new battery cover.

Yeah, mine fits fine, and I probably pull off the battery door every couple days to pull the battery (rebooting after trying another ROM-radio-kernel combo).

Looking closely, there is a slight gap at both top corners, but one would have to be looking very closely and specifically for such to notice 'em.

See that is how mine is. I guess its ok then.
My original cover locks up tight as can be. My extended cover has a tiny bit of play on the top left corner.

And your signal seems to be ok?
I think all will have a very slight gap, but it should be uniform all the way around the battery door. You could try snapping it on with a different method. Top first, then middle or vice versa.

[Q]My screen is leaking a sticky clear fluid

I recently pulled out my tablet and noticed that it screen had cracked close to the top, an inch or two to the right of the camera down to where the volume rocker. The LCD screen itself seems fine but there is a weird fluid that is leaking out of one spot right at the top on the bezel. Its been happening for a few hours very slowly and I've yet to see any oddities with the LCD screen so I don't think its the fluid from the LCD screen, any ideas? I've searched everywhere and can't find anything.
I can live with the crack but would like to know if it's going to get worse/cause problems that might cost me more than replacing the screen. And if so is there any DIY way to make it a bit better
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
spill something on it?
Nope, I wipe it away and can watch more seep out from the crack

thats weird. if it doesnt stop "leaking" lol personally id just RMA it. but thats just me

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
liquid inside your tablet has nothing to do with Asus
There should not be anything in your TF with liquid. Did you use your TF for some recreational pleasure?
Even the battery cells are solid.
My guess is the H2O from your Rubber Ducky battery level indicator. Or maybe the melting iceberg water from the Penguin. lol
There may be a layer of liquid in the LCD to improve transparency between layers. It shouldn't be leaking obviously so something is wrong.
Looks like many forgot what LCD stands for... it is Liquid Crystal Display, so it might be easily that when the bezel and the screen broke (mostly the screen, as it is directly attached to the display area, they are built together), it damaged the LCD crystal containers, and now that part leaks. Isn't there any weird artifacts on the screen, around the crack? Like dis-colorization, blind white spots, etc?
Good reply Fonix232

First real respons to the question i would have gone for the same.. Its probably the crystals leaking out you will be getting dead spots or artefacts soner or later so i would RMA it but i woluld not expect the factory warenty to cover it so my guess is it wount be sheap..

English please?
Are liquid crystals safe? Should you be touching them if it's them that are leaking?
Totally! It must be the LCD leaking. Defiantly don't touch it. If you think getting a splinter of glass out of your finger is hard just imagine a liquid splinter. It could work it's way into your blood steam and tear up your insides!

LCDs don't actually contain liquid. The word "liquid" refers to the physical properties of the crystals in the screen - they're "liquid" in that they can bend and twist smoothly to turn the pixels on and off. They won't leak out though.
I did some googling on leaky LCDs and only found a few actual stories of people claiming to have leaky screens. A few of them turned around and posted back that they'd found another culprit - leaving the laptop under a leaky ceiling for instance, so liquid later dribbled out around the screen. I'm going to guess someone spilled a liquid in your tablet, and it's dribbling back out when you hold it just right. Try removing the bezel (screws by the docking port, carefully pry it loose - there are threads about it) and I bet you find more liquid in there somewhere.

It smees the in the right down corner the screen isnt in line with the frame for some mm.
I saw around 5-6 other phones with the same exact problem.
Its not a big deal since isnt very noticable but when u will compare the right and left corner u will notice...
I have the same "issue". Dammit, why did I read, now I'm gonna know it's there.
White S6 64GB from Vietnam
I have it too, why did I click this thread, now I know it's there
Edit: Black Galaxy S6 (SM-G920F) Vietnam

But I don't think so. Also black made in Korea
Come on people, vote.
Also what do you think of this thing, as i see alot of phone are affected, does that is cuz of errors in manufactoring or...

Howdy
Ukrainian user here. Black Galaxy S6, assembled in Vietnam. The screen is affected by this issue in both: upper and lower right corners (lower right more).
Since this is a somewhat common issue now, I would suggest it is a manufacturing flaw and thus, nothing to be concerned over. It's not like Samsung will hand you over a replacement device because of it (it doesn't affect functionality a slight bit). Plus there's lots of people having much more significant issues with their devices.
Black 128 vzw has it

It smees there alot of flaws on the s6, u have to be lucky to dont have any issue at all.
Those folks who has s6 without any problem must be lucky...
Other people, see this, vote..
Had a 32 gig black, made in Vietnam. No issue. Changed my mind and got a 64 gig. Also Vietnam. Now has this issue. Doesn't really matter to me since I have a case that covers it, but it kinda sucks that it's there.
Had this issue on a warranty replacement I received. I saw it right away. Well, more like I felt the frame and screen not being the same
That's one huge gap wow.
Sent from my Galaxy S6 ~
Can we fix this by gently pushing the screen with suction cup on the corner ?
What do you think.
Its the screen pushed down more on the corner than it need to be, or the frame isnt good?
Also check every other corner on the front and back as well, i have seen few phones with this flaw on the back ...
its not a "issue" its a design feature, the top and bottom of the metal bezels are raised up to protect the screen from drops, placing it upside down etc, you will notice that it rises up smoothly from the center of the bezel on the side to the top/bottom, its the same for the back

Not really, this is only on the right bottom egde...
And that corner of the screen seems to be little under the frame in the corner...
for some milimetar, if u are seeing it form the side its very noticable when comparing the two sides..
I'm pretty sure that's the design of the phone, especially since it's on pretty much every phone. Looking at it closely it seems to create an ever so slight gap between the glass of the phone and any flat surface you might set it on. Plus the top and the bottom of the phone's frame is thicker than the sides

Frame paint quality finish.

I've read a few posts on various forums about some folks having issues with the frame of the phone developing scuffs and marks even though they have been cased. I'd like to think that perhaps sand or particles got inside case and caused it via abrasion.
For those that have theirs , hows the frame area holding up?
Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
No its def a cheap finish....i baby my phone and its scuffed ...looks kinda like swirling on paint of a car ....ive had other phones with same finish hold up wayyy longer.

Yeah, I read some threads on the oneplus community forums about the nebula blue in particular having defects on the aluminum frame out of the box. Also using a case causes abrasion wears on the paint of the frame.
Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Yea i have the gray or whatever color that is....and i can see how my case would do that. I have that oneplus carbon fiber looking case tmobile sells. Its tight... Which is good i like tight ? anyway the metal frame around phone does scratch more then any other phone i had. And i have had a lot of phones. Actually it reminds me of my s2 when i had that. (Same finish on frame) ......Just cheap looking and its ashame because the rest of the device is beautiful.
Only one little slight scrape on the bottom right of the frame. Seems to have held up fine for me so far though I still miss the titanium frame of my Essential.
Yeah I have a quite badly scratched and scuffed frame also. I've had it in a case since day one so don't know how it's happened, must be bits of dust or dirt scratching it. It seems a very soft material. Annoying as it ryins the resale value.
Sent from my GM1913 using Tapatalk
I just pulled off my case to check mine. I have the 12/256 Nebula blue and I have no scuffs or swirl marks as of yet and I got mine on launch day. Hope it stays that way (more so for resale value)
Just took off my case (which I have done a lot and this is my tightest case) and I don't have any scuffs. Even my camera at the top that's always exposed looks fine. I've got a t-mobile nebula blue I've had from launch. We'll see if it stays that way I guess.
Edit: there is some scuffs around the charging port but I guess that'd make sense since I have bad aim.
