[Q] Asus Transformer from US for UK Use - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been pretty anti-tablet since they started releasing them (I have my Desire HD...why would I want a tablet?????) but after seeing the Asus Transformer I've started to change my mind......partly due to the keyboard/battery dock but mainly because I'm in the US for a while so purchasing one now would mean big savings!!
My question is what problems (if any) would I encounter if I tried using one bought from the US in the UK? What is the charger like (does it have a transformer like laptop chargers which allows variable input voltages)?
Also, if I purchased the dock from the UK would it still work or am I limited to one bought from the US?

So do I assume it should be fine?

The Transformer itself charges via a USB connector, so it should work fine in any country. You'll need a UK-mains to USB3.0 adapter to replace the one that comes with the US Transformer if you want to charge it directly while "undocked" from the PC, but USB is USB everywhere, so the part of the cable that connects to the Transformer should still work fine in the UK.
I have no idea if the docks are region specific, but I'd bet they aren't just because it doesn't make much sense for them to bother going out of their way to make them that way.

i think i would be more concerned about warranty, rumours has it that us transformer is only protected by local warranty, not international warranty

Hmmm good point!
Did a little searching and came across an xda page here asking the same question and it seems it does come with global warranty, but in Europe I think you have to find a local reseller for any claims rather than online.

Ive read elsewhere that the hardware itself is universal, but you may need to continue using the US updates instead of the UK updates (unless you root and install cwm, but that's a different story). But anyways, the keyboard would work from anywhere.
The plug it comes with accepts 240 volts, so you would just need the us/uk plug style adapter (couple bucks i think?). You wouldnt need a voltage adapter though.

It needs 15V to charge I believe. It uses a USB receptacle, but won't charge unless it gets 15V. I plugged in my transformer to my USB 3.0 port and it did not show a battery charging icon. The adapter outputs between 5v and 15v.
To answer the OP's question, the adapter accepts an input voltage of up to 240v, so all you need is a US plug -> UK plug adapter

AC Adapter B250

Quick question.
After I got my HTC replaced due to pink screen, I got the new one and the AC adapter that came on the pack was no longer the TC P300 but a small TC B250. Does any one recognizes this and why the pack are being shipped with dif adapter?
I am waiting on HTC reply. Because there is nothing on the webpage or their support know nothing about existence of this adapter.
I think the new AC adapter TC B250 is now standard issue with UK Desires. I got one with my Desire from Handtec but they didn't supply any the actual UK plug (or any plug) with it!
Yep, apparently only to UK Ireland their shipping those adapters. I am trying to get a foretold explanation from HTC so I can update the post.
You mentioned you no plug at all... did they replace the adapter or how did you sort it?
When charging your phone have you notice any issues that of you charge overnight when you unplug it on the morning the battery has 5% off the 100% with np usage?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
thanks for the reply. I am discussing this issue with handtec at the moment. at this stage I would say they are skeptical. I can't comment about the charging performance as I can't use it without a plug!
makes sense
Let's us know about how its going you case. I believe there is no much information about this new adapter. I am still trying to get a product reference or description off HTC but they don't seem to have it. On the accessories page on HTC website I can't find any mention to such model, either in european website neither in the US one..
Here is HTC reply:
" Hello, Thank you for your reply, The device itself is UK specific which is why it came with a UK charger. We cannot change it for an EU one, sorry but you can contact with your retailer. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Thank you for contacting HTC.
Hi Larbac, I thought I would give you an update. Handtec sent me a replacement charger but it is the old style one with the trapeziodal housing. So maybe in time I can find a 3 pin plug for the TC B250 on ebay but until then it will gather dust.

Interesting, as it looks like there are no information about this adapter and whenever you complain the ones they replace with are the old TC P300. That's weird this situation... somewhere, someone is packing this adapter into the phone boxing and this must be recognized somewhere... I just don't know how...
When I complained near my provider and they would like to give me an adapter they had in store. some they normally use for their own phones. So I kept mine.
thanks for update
Some news...
for the first time I see this adapter on the web. Some one is selling them on UK.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GENUINE-H...PDACharger&hash=item4150951f7e#ht_1501wt_1137
Apart from this my contact with HTC ended on a phone call where they offered me a new charger. I think they though the all purpose was to have and european plug.. While I wanted to know if I can get adapters... Now I have to carry 2 adapters arround..
But the charger they gave me is from previous, older HTC models with USB connection and a micro USB adapter...
I am just tired and I am not continue on the conversation about this issue...
Can you get USA and European two-pin plug tops for the B250 charger? I can't see them anywhere, so why make it 110/240V 50/60Hz if there's only the included UK 3-pin head? The extra cost of including the other two with the phone would be pennies.

As far as I am aware those plugs do not exist. At least I could not find them. And when I queried HTC about they simply post me an adapter from old HTC with an USB 2 MicroUSB adapter.
Did anyone find a place where they sell only the plug? If someone wants to trade a UK plug for a EU plug, hit me up.
It's really stupid to buy a new charger when we could simply change the plug..

[Q] Buy spare power cord??

Hey All,
So long story short one of my cats chewed through the damn power cord for the tablet and now I am SOL. Does anyone have any idea where I'd be able to get a replacement. I'm really upset since I am loving the tablet and haven't put it down since last week. Any 3rd party adapters work?
Help!
damn cats are worthless best bet call asus and request another, they may even send it free of charge if you tell them yours was defective or was damaged.
cant you just splice it back together? It doesnt really take any tools, just a pair of scissors and some tape, and it should hold fine until you get a new one.

PLEASE DON'T DO THAT . The last thing you want is to damage your new toy because you half-a$$ed a repair on the power cable. SOMEBODY you know is bound to have a soldering iron. Cleanly cut and solder the wires. And use some shrink tubing or electrical tape.
EDIT: This is assuming that the break is somewhere in the middle. If it's toward the USB end, you may be able to just purchase a USB3 cable and put that end on (I believe they are the same, but watch the pinout). If it's at the proprietary connector end, you're probably SOL. Either way, remember that being without your tablet for a few days or weeks is way better than damaging it to the point where it's unusable.

Oh my god, I didn't realize someone is on the same boat as me, mine was chewed by my cat too....I called asus couple times and they were able to give me a RMA for it. Not sure how long it'll take to have them ship it or how much it'd cost (some sites are telling 29.99) so that might be what they'll charge me.

They've been selling the sleeve for $40 so...
I'm also in the same boat, though it's because my child lost mine in another city. That's what we get for giving him an opportunity to show he can take care of things. Between the horrible launch they've had and the lack of basic parts like this, I haven't been too happy. The tablet is great, when I have power to turn it on though.
Yep, this is one of the sad things... My charger and cable are fine, but I want at least one spare charger and cable, and probably even a third cable just in case.
Anyone have any luck with this? Mine arrived from Newegg and the adapter is missing from the packaging. No response yet from Newegg or from Asus support.

[Q] Power Lead Extender

I have tried 2 different USB extension leads to try and get a longer charging lead, but neither work. Does anyone have one that does work that can be sourced in the UK The one that comes with it is pretty mean

You need usb 3.0. There is a thread in the accessories forum that specify known working cables.
Been discussed a TON over in the accessories forum. A USB 3.0 extension cable works fine. I have one here and at the office.
Don't buy from eBay as sellers are misrepresenting what they really have. Get from amazon for cheap.

[Q] Transformer in France

I'm traveling to France (from USA) in a few weeks and planning to take my Transformer. Can anyone give me some info about charging the Transformer over there and if there are any obstacles I should be aware of using wifi? Thanks.
BTW, I'm using Prime 1.83.
I have mi US TF here in Spain. The domestic voltage and plugs are the same on both.
Your charger will work without problems, but you will need a plug adapter, because the plugs are 2 round ones. If you are staying at a hotel maybe they have universal plugs (useful 4 european and US plugs).
Regarding wifi, no problems at all. Amazon app shop won't work and maybe some other location dependant service may deny you service, but everything should run fine.
And yes, if an OTA is aired you will get it . (Oh, I see you are using prime, so no reason to worry about OTA).
Regards.

No need to worry about charging, because the charger is a universal one (100-240v). Most european country use 220-240v, here in France we use 220V, like CalvinH said all you need is a plug adaptor (round one like in spain), it's not expensive. For wifi there's no roblem, it's the same thing wherever you go.
Sorry for my bad writing. As aibo said and I was trying to say, YES, both Spain and France (and I think most european countries) use 220Vac.
Regards.
Thanks, guys...

[Q] USB Ethernet Adapter

I Just bought this tablet and i am wondering if anyone had some luck to get a usb to Ethernet adapter running. Quite a few worked for the prime and original transformer.
Its just i travel a lot and some many bloody hotels still have cables in the room....I am sure some people must have run in to the same issue as me here.
I have scourged through the tf101 and 201 forums earlier for this
Mine working with belkin gigabit USB 2.0 network adapter. simply plug and play . I get a notification Ethernet adapter connected ..touch it to go into settings ..switch Ethernet on...done..costs rupees 750 (US$ 17)...attached a pic of it
Known adapters working:
1. Belkin EN and Gigabit adapters
2. Apple mac air Adapter
3. D-link DUB adapter
4. Trendnet, Sabrent, monoprice, maplin electronics are other brands reported to work
others depending on your luck ....I tried an unbranded one in the shop...with Ethernet ..did not work...

Well I know but trust me it is difficult to search for the chipset on the box of the adapter ..it is not mentioned on it...so better and easy way to go buying an already proven brand because unlike in the US..in other countries you can't return back stuff you bought unless it is faulty. "They never claimed it works for Linux or Android or your tf300 "
Well but if it helps....ASIX AX88772A is the chipset which is said to be working ....well further you can contribute if you are aware...I am a doctor not a software guy. ...ha ha ha
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk
It depends on the brand, but yes, the chipset is generally not mentioned on the box
Still, a compromise: list the chipset, and the brand/type that make use of it?
Still, every adapter compatible with ICS should work with the TF, as drivers are generally a kernel thing.
Thanx Once Again
This is very good news indeed. Now i just have to find any of these in Germany
dont really want to get the apple one.....
This one supposedly has the ASIX chipset and is supposed to work with Android:
