I have the dock as well as a usb A male to male cable. Any way to leave the usb cable connected from the dock to my pc to transfer files?
I can leave a jump drive plugged into the dock and access it with ifileManager, but I'd like it to function similar to using the included cable. It would be so easy to swap a file real quick while it's on the dock charging compared to connecting another cable or removing the microsd.
Where did you get the dock? I Googled for it and didn't find anything being sold for the Viewsonic G Tablet.

Maybe use the search feature on the gtablet forums
It's the malata dock sold at merimobiles and alibaba, among other places, check the accessory forum and you'll see a few posts regarding where to get it and reviews of it.
It seems the full size usb and the mini usb function very differently fom one another.
My computer knowledge is limited mostly to hardware and windows, so I'm not even sure where to begin aside from physically connecting everything lol
Thanks, dirt4618, your response is very helpful. I tried the AliBaba site but they are unable to take credit card payments for some reason. I also felt a little uncomfortable about the security of their site and my financial transaction if I bought from them. The Merimobiles site has the Dock at a little higher price but does business with US customers via Canada so I feel a little better about dealing with them.
I can answer the question in regards to the USB on the dock, When I did the review I simply used a thumb drive and a keyboard / mouse to test it. I'm not sure about the 'power' that those extenders use?
As for docks, many have been getting them online. I had a chunk of 20 but they went in 36 hours. I may have a few more coming in but I tend to keep it quiet until I have anything in my hand.
I believe the 40 pin connector has everything we could use including HDMI, USB, charging, and probably more.
Does anyone know the pinout and the mating connector? I want to make an adapter that would make the HDelight WHDI transmitter work with the tablet directly without the dock. It needs power from USB, in addition to HDMI. I am guessing both are in the 40 pin connector.
BUMP
Since the TF101 has been out a while, so hoping someone has some info on this?

If you can make a bunch of Power Adapters for it...that's be great. I've been trying to find the 40pin connector for a while now.
I don't think people need HDMI out on the cable, b/c that's built-in in the form of a mini-HDMI cable. I think most people would want a way to hook up USB devices to it. A 40pin to USB hub (3-4 ports) would be really nice.
I think the power adapter for a reasonable price with a nice long cable would be an excellent start. 15V, 1.2A switching power supplies are cheap in China + wiring it up to the connector for $20-$25, I think you'd have no trouble selling those. As a bonus, if the adapter ALSO could take a 12V car adapter as input and not just 110-220V AC...well that's an easy sell right there!
Thanks!

Verkion,
I think using a USB car charger with the USB cable would work, wouldn't it? I haven't tried it though.
Anyway, if anyone gets hold of any info on the docking connector, pls let me know. I'll make it worth it!

nope, standard car chargers are 5v usb spec.... the TF only starts to charge at 11v or so, IIRC.

Can you divulge your source for the connector?? I can make a GRIP of specialized cables connectors and docks. I'll post all tech info on comm from the 40 pin.
I have found a 40 pin connector but can't post a link as a new member. I think the offset between the two rows of pins is incorrect but may help with someone else finding the correct one. I'll contact the admin to see if I can post the link.
You may be able to find it from web 'alwaysinnovating' wiki/index.php/40-pin_connector

Here's the link you're trying to share:
http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/40-pin_connector
(note: I've done nothing to confirm whether this is the right connector or in any way related to it myself, I'm just sharing the link to save somebody else the hassle of googling.)
That 40 pin connector doesn't have +15V lines. Hence the electrical layout might be a bit different than what's listed.
Thanks for posting the link. As AnTrans said, there is a good chance the pin out assignment listed on that site is NOT what the Asus uses but may point towards finding the correct connector.

The important part is it looks like he found the connector itself, and it seems to be available from some major US distributors. The rest is a matter of reverse engineering

Edited: Yes you are right.
From the data sheet, also 2129261-1 will fit. The 3.3mm thick will fit into a receptacle that is 3.8mm thick. I think the pins are okay (might be wrong).
In *addition* to your choice, try this:

See the mfr's page here , particularly the "View Product Drawing" link. The dimensions of the plug are (excl. the latches) 18.5 x 3.1 x 7mm (7mm being the minimum start of the overmold). I don't have calipers on me right now, but the pins are on .3mm staggered centers, so the distance from an edge of pin 1 to the same edge of pin 40 is 11.7mm. I still think this looks like a winner.

Okay, I agree with you. I was wrong, looking at 3.8mm on the receptacle.
Both your part and my part are the correct outer dimensions. The differences only depend on what type of mount - board or cable.
Looking inside my ASUS cable with mag-glass the pins are staggered.
As per the thread title, I am looking for a battery charger for the TG01. I need one that will simply charge the battery (will need also a spare battery) - and just swap out the batteries as I go. I can't work with an external charger that connects via micro-usb (as I'm having issues with the micro-usb port and can't charge the phone! Therefore need another means of charging ASAP - and will come back and look at how to tackle fixing the micro-usb port at a later stage).
Anyone know where I can get such a thing???
Struggling to do so - so far in my www search....
You mean like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal...700?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3a6e594a7c
"Universal mobile battery charger" is what I looked for.
You can get better one's with digital readouts, but that is EXACTLY what I bought a few days ago to try and save my TG01 from a bad wm6.5. Just waiting for it to turn up.
@Scougar: Yes - I managed to get one in the end - off ebay. Hopefully it will arrive before the week is out - as I'm currently phone less!
Not good! Mine arrived today btw... Annoyingly no instructions on what the LED colours mean on it, or which terminal is positive and which negative.
btw.. mine says 850ma on it, so not the full 1000ma, but I can live with that.
I bought this on eBay - can´t paste the link here - look for - 1500mah Micro USB Back up Battery Charger + Cable for Toshiba TG01 TG 01
I am very satisfied when need to power battery out not having power adaptor. However I have totally 3 batteries and purchased also the solar power adaptor with internal battery.

I had the same problem re. instructions - but have got the hang of it. However, it's not a sufficient solution for me. It seems to take an absolute age to power up a battery. I have a spare battery - and even this isn't going to be enough.
I guess it's because of the way I use the phone - with connection to usb keyboard - to write emails...even though I remove the cable the moment the email has been written, it absolutely drains battery resources - RAPID!
I will have to try and get the micro-usb port fixed somehow. I've contacted toshiba to see if - first of all there is any warranty cover on the phone (i bought it off ebay - so not sure if covered or not).
Even if not covered, I'm unsure where to send it - or who can really fix this. Does anyone have any ideas? I am based in Ireland. Do Toshiba have a list of approved service centres??
You will just need to get a higher 'ma' rated charger then (so battery will charge faster).
BTW.. sounds stupid.. but have you tried another micro usb cable (a proper charging cable, rather than just a regular data transfer micro usb one?)

I have tried a number of cables - that had been working at one stage but no longer work. However, they work when it comes to connecting to my usb keyboard.....just not working to charge the phone...
MICRO-USB Repair.
I'm a bit concerned about this - as someone has suggested to me that this can't be repaired - that it's 'terminal'. Can this really be the case????
Seems an awful waste of a phone if that's true....

I'm not sure what "burn's out", so I wouldn't like to speculate, but the repair of the actual 'port' surely wouldn't be that hard even for an amateur solderer? Maybe it's something in a charging chip that's burnt out? Given that you can pick tg01's up for £50+ (I really am guessing here.. I've been drinking).. it probaly isn't worth the cost of a repair unless you do it yourself.

The ruddy thing cost me €200 back then....can't remember for sure when -I think 9 months ago. Just checked ebay and they range from €110-€180. Pretty poor form - if they can't do the job for a couple of years at the very least.
Not sure where I stand as regards warranty - still waiting to hear back from toshiba support.
I don't feel that buying another one is the way to go - if they are flawed in this way. Furthermore, it makes me wonder about investing in a good phone - if they all have a point of weakness in terms of the micro-usb slot. Had a quick look at the nokia lumia at one stage last week....but if I'm using that port heavily (which i am - constantly swapping out between cable (for keyboard) and usb power cable....will the same thing happen?
If you are worried about over working the port, then just get an extension cable or try using a powered USB hub so you won't be swapping it out so often.
The micro usb port design is probably 'weak' compared to the mini USB port design, but it's what we are pretty much every phone on the market is now using. You could also use a USB keyboard.
I would only have considered about £75 for my phone (MODS: I can't sell it , I've bricked it... or as I like to say "I'm between operating systems at the moment" ;-) ) Point is, you can probably get one cheaper than you are seeing on ebay.
I think you are either better off with another phone, or getting a bigger battery, they question is whether you want to invest in the TG01 anymore, or get something else.

How can I use the powered usb hub exactly? I can plug the usb keyboard into it -then run a usb cable between the hub and the usb to micro-usb adaptor that then connects to the phone...is that correct?

As regards moving on to a new unit, I don't really want to go down this road for two reasons;
1. I don't think I have got my money's worth out of the spend on the TG01 - and while the work arounds are far from ideal - I am otherwise happy with the phone in principal
2. I fear making another big investment - only for the same thing to happen again (given that I will continue to use micro-usb port heavily
A bigger battery - I don't think is a possibility?? I know there was one oversized battery on the market for that phone - but it came with a new back cover for the phone also - as it was thicker than normal. It was expensive - and it's not really the route I wish to take. What I might do - is buy another battery. Then - with 3 batteries on the go - just keep charging them up on rotation at home.
Mickey mouse approach - but I don't see any other feasible way of handling it.
IF I did get another phone, I don't think it would be the TG01. It served its purpose at the time (and It will continue to do so - although more awkward now). However, I don't think this sort of failure should happen - and support should be better. Very hard to get a hold of someone in support - NO support in ROI - and necessary to mail the phone in to their UK service centre. In addition, just discovered that it's out of warranty.
There are some internal pictures of the TG01 floating around, it might be worthwhile trying to dig those up, and see if you can get a look at the USB connection points, and see if an amateur repair is possible.
EDIT: If you go to the following thread you will find internal pictures It looks to me like the port could be repaired if you have a fine enough soldering iron, or taped it up well enough. (As long as the problem isn't a 'trace' being burnt out... and we assume that the port itself has broken/come loose or needs replacement).
Can someone recommend a good quality external charger
Only a couple of weeks - and the external charger I got off ebay seems to be flaking!
Can anyone recommend a GOOD QUALITY external charger that I could order up - that will work well with TG01 batteries??
Have to say... that one I bought isn't the best quality. connection is 'iffy' now it seems.

I;ve been trawling the net - but they all seem the ruddy same! What would you buy if you had to go again?
Right now - at this moment - the charger is working again - but I spent half the day trying to get it to work up until now! I don't have great faith in it - and if it goes, I'm sans phone once again.
If I could get a reliable charger, I would be fairly happy. I've got into the routine of charging alternate batteries - so that system works (so I can squeeze the outlay on the phone back out of it - before I go and upgrade at a later stage).
The only other type of external charger I could find was this.
So....i've ordered one up....will post back whether it actually does the job or is another piece of sh1t!

the seller was very helpful and sent to Spain was fast, 10 to 14 days.
After buying the dock and seeing that I've paid $24 only for a piece of plastic with a connector I decided to dig a little deeper into it to make it better.
So, I was assimilating information from these topics:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155065
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16342363&postcount=4
I started to put my knowledge at work and this is what came out - see attachments.
Basically I can now use my charger of choice and at the same time I can plug in USB stuff.
The small relay inside is switching the power supply for the USB host from the 5V output of the tablet to the main 5V supply when you are plugging in the power adapter (the original or non-original).
The button next to the USB host (I know .. it is white .. but they were not having other colors at the electronics store ) has the function to switch the connection of the USB port from the regular OTG to the circuit that is enabling the AC charging on the tablet. So, when I'm not using the usb host capabilities the tablet will charge in fast mode, with full current.
There is one interesting thing I've found. If I'm plugging in the tablet with the switch in the fast-charge mode and after that I'm switching to USB-Host mode, the tablet will still continue to charge in AC mode (see snapshots for proof ).
I have to mention that all the original functionality of the dock has been preserved and the 30 pin connector at the back can still be used with the original intent (with the proper cables).
If anyone want to replicate this mod and needs additional details, just ask and I'll gladly answer.
Very cool. Lots of great details and pics.
One word: Brilliant.
Good work mate.
Awesome what about a HDMI port?

The hdmi has to wait a little. I have ordered a mhl adapter on ebay but is gonna take a while until will arive. An on top of that I need to find time in my crowded schedule.
Could you please supply the wiring schematic diagram of your mod? That would be a lot helpful. Thank you.
This is awesome, great work! Shame it doesn't come with that full USB port stock. If I get one of these tabs, I'll definitely be looking to repeat your work.

awesome, can't wait to see your update of HDMI
I'm sorry not to have provided the requested info but my daily job is currently killing all my time (including the theoretically spare time). I'll draw the schematics ASAP and also I'll re-order the MHL adapter since the first one got lost in the mail (and I've been reimbursed).
Anyway, as a heads-up - I'm thinking to put the MHL adapter on top of the dock so I'll keep the original port accessible (and also the audio jack). I still don't know how exactly I'm going to do this ... but I think I'll figure it out when the time will come.
thats quite innovative

apparently the dock has hdmi passthrough meaning you still need the samsung hdmi adapter (http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EPL-3PHPBEGSTA) I haven't yet tried my dock with my hdmi adapter, I will do tomorrow and let you know - good luck incorporating that too
awesome job mate...schematics would be really helpful. Can't do this mod on my own, but my father is more than capable...I think i have project for him (if you can find some time to draw those schematics off course )
Would it be possible to modify the dock to disable data and only enable AC charging? I'm using the Tab in my car and every car charger I use seems to only send 500mA of current to the Tab so it dies a slow death in my car and needs to be recharged at home once a week or so.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Can you show where you soldered wires to in the dock?
Bought one and want to charge at same time as watch movies from usb device.
Anybody help me?
Have you thought about making and selling these?. I for one would certainly buy one!. Wouldn't have the balls to try and do it myself...... av
Hi guys,
I've put together some schematics. Sorry for the lack of very deep details but I can not take the glue off my board and other hi-def picture I was unable to find so you will have to use an ohmmeter to find out the exact pins based on the clues in the picture.
Basically, in the attached picture is the implementation I currently have in the dock. Due to the lack of free time I was unable to continue with implementing the MHL adapter inside so I guess I'll drop that one.
If you need any details based on the attached picture do not hesitate to ask.
Full size picture: http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/83/dockmod.png
And to answer the ones asking if I'm thinking to sell these : Actually that thought crossed my mind. I have other mods done on my Galaxy Nexus also (see the Ringke inductive charging mod) and also other great stuff that I'm building by exercising my hobby. Unfortunately, when I'm pushing like 70-80 hours a week on my daily job there is little to none spare time left .. and the little I got I'm spending it with my son. In a relative future when I'll have more spare time (or no job) I'll consider starting a business based on the know-how I've gathered until now.
thanks for update...

I just wanted to point out a similar thread posted in the "galaxy tab plus accessories" forum. This may have already been done before but i figured it would be much bigger news if so. In case some of u may not know, the same dock works with ALL tab variants(PERSONALLY ONLY TESTED WITH P1000, P7100, P6200, P6210 BUT 99% CERTAIN) so if this proves true, this should be shared with all the other tab forums in hopes that it can be made into an actual product.
Here is the original post

Ended up modding my dock now and have usb host with charging...
Thanks Ro-explorer for the idea...
old dock from samsung p1000...
i have from my old p1000 (i sold it) the docking station at home. mhm i think they have the same cabel and so.
but the p1000 have 7zoll and my tab have 8,9 and the pin is landscape
i cut the dockstation and my GT-7310 works wonderfull with the ( i say modded ) dock.
mini hdmi works and the rest too. only one problem is there now, i but a little piece of paper behind the tab and dock, for the perfect fit xD
okay the cuts look terrible but i work on them
sorry for my english but i hope you can see on the pics what i mean gg

I am looking for the card that has the micro usb and hdmi ports for a Xyboard 10.1. I would assume that the Xoom 2 would have this similar setup but I am not sure. If someone has one of these tablets available for parts, let me know. I have searched for hours trying to find somewhere to buy this with no luck. I also tried my hand at soldering and that did not go so well. Please let me know if anyone knows a way. Thanks!:cyclops:
Plus one.
If somebody has this board, please, pm me.
FYI I ended up buying a shell on eBay for $120. I got more than I needed but now have an extra screen.

Xyboard Uses
I'm a little off topic here as my Xyboard (knock on wood) works great. BUT, what are you all using your Xyboards for? As in, I'm at a point where I can't find more uses for it other than a Music Player in my office and a sketchy universal remote in my living room. If mine crapped out, I don't think I'd be motivated to fix it. I want this thing to excel (I really do!), but because there's been nearly-zero development on it, I don't find myself reaching for it very often. (I've got the $35 Second Shells case for it as well as the Moto Bluetooth Keyboard; I've babied this thing).
I've even thought about mounting it in my car just so it becomes relevant again. Am I missing ways where it can be useful?
Sidenote: my Samsung Chromebook fills 90% of my work/media consumption needs and my Razr M fills out the other 10%.
Also: if it does crap out, I'll totally give you my USB/HDMI port card. I'd love for it to go to a good home.

Hello Friend..
You do own a very capable tablet, what OS are you running, Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich.? I did enjoy GB, but ICS is more advanced, alot more overall performance and options..And especially with the "promised" Jelly Bean upgrade..WooHoo..this tablet will be even more capable and useful..
With ICS and the right Apps. These XYB's will surprise you..Since my last post here..I have purchased a couple junked XYBoards "buy as is" from Ebay..took the two and made ONE that function flawlessly..one had a bad motherboard, the other a bad battery and charge port..
And this is the one I'm using now..SO..I own one of each MZ617 models..a 16, 32 and 64 GB..I love to tinker with these things..THANKS to Root capabilities, SafeStrap and a few more Mods..anyway.
With the correct Apps..these XYB's are a very helpful tool..I will mention only a few functions very useful..
Printing wirelessly world wide, file transfer via Bluetooth and more, office document creation, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint (namely a few)..Measuring distances (feet/inch/metric)..GPS travel ..Cook books, Free Hand note taking, high quality camera and video camera, MP3, MPG, Divix, AVI player, bar code scanner, auto VIN number scanner, auto diagnostic functions, voice recorder, Police, Fire scanner, Social networking, Live video chats with family and friends, Electronic book reader, Graphics editor, video rendering, cloud storage, USB compatible, buy_sale on EBay, Email, alarm clock, stop watch..the list is longer, but I will stop there..is there ANY laptop that can do all this without armfulls of attachments..I cannot imagine without a tablet..and all the above mentioned, a woman can hold in her hand.!!
OH..first and foremost..I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses..I study the Bible, have the monthly magazines such as the Watchtower and AWAKE!, and our weekly study material, Daily Text, and much more of JW's reading material..I have the complete Bible also in MP3 format, and much more on a single (one) 32 GB Motorola XYBoard 10.1 tablet..I use the tablet in the ministry, going door to door, during our two weekly meetings also..
Now my laptops set most of the time, they are jealous of my XYBoards..now they are only used to Root another XYB or to copy and store my many SafeStrap backups and other files..lol
I certainly hope all my babbling helps you to see, just how Awesome these XYB's really are..
I hope you will find comfort and usefulness with yours..take care..

I found one. It's for the xoom2 but the number on the board is the same 1016326001. Looks identical too. They had 10 in stock. If you wanna wait i'll let you know if it works, just ordered 1. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-VERIZON...048?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e80ba8bf0
Auction says used but description says This is for the 10.1in Motorola Xoom 2 MZ617. This is a new, unused part directly from the manufacturer.
With having 10 available i'd assume they are new. I sent him a message asking. regardless i ordered one.
Thank you for posting the link, the auction definitely states, "New"..WooHoo..there is hope..I will watch the sale, I hope you receive a new one for your device, Don't know how the EBayer got ahold of 10 of these, but that's great, They are in Calif..seems as thow Texas and California gets most of the good Motorola stuff..lol..
Anyway..I hope the EBayer can get 100 more..I personally just purchased the new Droid Maxx last week, and plan to purchase another in a couple days..So my budget is stressed at the moment..if the EBayer doesn't sale out in a couple weeks, I hope to purchase at least two charge ports..They also have a motherboard for MZ617..I have a 16gb model with a bad MB setting here, I'd like to repair..

i emailed him about xyboard and the used, he said he would add it to the description (he did, now has xyboard). he didnt mention the new/used but i see its changed to new so i'm sure the one i ordered is new. I also won an auction for an 8" xyboard for $37 a few hours ago, i was hoping it had the same usb board, they looked the same on the outside and they fit the same dock.
WooHoo..thank you for contacting the EBayer about the port, also, glad you won the 8" auction and I hope its the same port as the 10"..

faulty charge port workaround & power button request
Yeah, I just bought one of these too although I had got around my faulty port by wiring straight into the battery.
It works really well - it even charges off my regular phone charger now. or the usb port on my PC.
The software doesn't recognise that it's charging but after about 4-5 hours it's fully charged again!
I just hacked off an old usb cable and wired a plug on the end to match the new one I connected to the battery.
I passed the lead out through the hole in the case for sd card/sim socket (mine doesn't have an sd card port)
Make sure you pass it through the hole in the case before you wire up to the battery otherwise the case won't snap together,
and don't try wiring the plug on after connecting it to the battery as you're likely to short the battery.
You have to join the data wires on the usb lead together and this signals to the computer to deliver full current to the port.
What I'm after now is a ribbon with the power/volume buttons on it as while I was doing the charge repair
my son got hold of it and picked off the naked button with his finger nail. (See pics below)
Does anyone have this spare part? It's for a xoom2 mz616 or 617 10" screen. Don't know if any other models will fit
but I can't turn it on now
Please help!
Sorry I tried to insert the pics but xda wouldn't allow it. PM me if you want to see.
no no

Yeah, I thought about soldering it - but have you seen how SMALL the parts are???
I even bought a new micro usb port for £2, but it's way too small.
There's no way I can solder parts that tiny.
I don't see what the bid deal is connecting the battery direct to the usb - as long as you don't leave it in too long?
it will level out at 5v and stop charging when it has equalised.
And I never left it in so long it got hot or anything - you have to monitor that.
You may be right, I don't know. I didn't try it long enough to test thoroughly as I got a new usb/charge port off ebay.
It wasn't $15 though - I paid $40 for a new one.

The boards all sold out and i sold out of the 100 i bought in a week. The battery may charge volts is 4.2 so 5 volts will cook one
