I have had this problem since day one with the Thunderbolt even with the stock ROM. I have since rooted and I am now running Das Bamf with the same results.
When running the stock mail program with an Exchange/ActiveSync account, I get double notifications (sound and vibration) when new email arrives.
Can anyone give suggestions on how to fix this please? I have installed Touchdown which fixes the problem but I actually prefer the stock ap.
Thanks
Go to your inbox in the stock mail app, hit the menu button, go to account settings, and change your notifications there?
I did try all the settings in there with no success. Since it has happened on every ROM, it must be an issue with the app itself and no one else has had the same set of criteria to get the same results as me.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Did a search and could not find a similar thread addressing this issue. If I am incorrect, I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
I am currently running Assonance 5.2 and have set up Yahoo and Exchange accounts, with the phone set to check for email either every 5 minutes (for my Exchange account) or once every hour (for my Yahoo account).
I have noticed that, on a daily basis, my phone will stop checking for emails altogether even though background sync is turned on. Additionally, even when I delete emails from my phone, they remain on the server. Lastly, even though I have read an email, it still shows up as unread on the server. The phone has stopped checking at random times - on Monday, it stopped checking after 3:00 p.m.; on Tuesday and Wednesday, it stopped sometime after 6:00 p.m.; and on Thursday, it stopped checking around noon.
I have tried Improved Email and K-9, but the problem remains. As an FYI, I had the same problem even when I was running an unrooted phone that was running the stock Eclair.
Have other people encountered this issue? If so, is there a way to get the email working correctly? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Same here. I use mine for corporate and I have to say my Iphone was 10 times better when it came to email etc. Sometimes I can force a refresh....others I have to reboot. But I have missed some critical emails because they just werent syncing. I have learned to deal with it although it stinks. My email blows up during business hours, so If I havent gotten an email in ~45min, I know to check it.
I had this problem in the stock email client. Clearing the cache under the applications settings menu fixed it for me. After I had to fix it this way for about the 3rd time, I switched to K9 mail and havent had a problem since. I have hotmail, POP and Gmail accounts.
Im stock, by the way.
sent from my Captivate
Thanks for both of your replies. I'm glad (sort of) to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem.
@mike parsons - I am in the same boat as you where I have missed critical work emails due to the phone not fetching my email. I also grudgingly agree that the iPhone mail client worked much better. The only thing I could do to get the email on the Captivate working again was to restart the phone. Even then, I sometimes had to restart 2-3 times before the emails were sent to the phone.
I had this issue with stock Eclair 2.1 on my Rogers sourced Captivate SGH-I896 running Eclair 2.1-update 1.
It happened rarely with POP accounts, never with G-Mail, but with Exchange ActiveSync it was disastrous. I set up and configured this, and with my old Windows Phone 6.0 it did this maybe five times in 18 months.
During the off-time between Christmas and New Years it only received e-mail properly on ActiveSync two days out of eight. I didn't get much e-mail during that time either.
Sometimes it helps if I manually changed it from automatic (push) to every 15 minutes and hit "refresh" but most often it did not. The only fix was to remove the ActiveSync account and re-establish it, and it would work fine for a week or so until it started doing this again.
Another thing that seemingly affected it, was how much e-mail I would sync. It would happen quicker if I sync'd the last month of e-mail versus let's say one or two weeks.
I had run Cognition 2.3B7 without a hitch for about a week and a half and it never happened.
I just upgraded to the stock Froyo 2.2 and I'm hoping this isn't an issue with the upgraded client.
Use k9 mail. This is lots better than stock.
@diablo009 - thank you for the suggestion. However, I had the exact same problem using K9, so I am not sure what else I can try.

Did u try configuring k9 to fetch mails at intervals? It would be "folder poll frequency" under account settings. Want to see if u did this too.
Also, some apps need "background data" to be enabled in settings. Is that set? Same question about "auto-sync" being turned on.

Thanks for the suggestions - yes, I had tried different folder poll frequencies on K9 - 1 minute, 5, minutes, 15, minutes, and so on. However, there are still times when I won't receive an email for hours even though K9 is set to poll much more frequently. I will only learn of this when I check my mail through my home or work computer. In fact, on occasions like this (when I learn that phone hasn't downloaded the new messages), I will go into K9 (or the email app) and hit either refresh or check mail. Even in these situations, the new mail won't show up on the phone until I restart the phone completely. Again, I had this problem both on stock Eclair as well as on Assonance 5.2.
Also, I had enabled "sync server deletions" on K9, but messages still don't consistently get deleted from the server.
Lastly, background sync and auto sync are both enabled in settings.
Just updated to ec10 rooted and installed voodoo. Everything so far working good except exchange email won't retrieve emails. I have all the settings sames as eclair setup. I did a full ec10 install so I'm close to stock setup. Anyone else have issues w exchange? All I get when I go into email icon is "refresh" button. I hit and nothing....was solid on eclair for last 5 months so I know nothing on my server. I have about 10 others with androids running eclair w 0 issues.
Update:
Got this to work finally. After getting touchdown to work easy enough I gave the default app one more try. It appears you need to allow administrator for the device and also have background data checked. In 2.1 you did not need autosync or background data checked to push emails from the exchange server.

Hey guys!
I'm loving my One S (except some few bugs, but hopefully they'll be fixed).
One of the bugs is kind of wierd...Sometimes, my Mail-notification just won't work.
That is, I receive a mail but no sound or icon is popping up.
Anyone seen this?
I'm using HTC Mail-client as I think it's way better than the Gmail-app
Have you set up everything in the mail notifications settings (for every account seperately)? I have 3 accounts and often forget something
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Yes, all the notifications are set correctly.
It's working, but sometimes it won't vibrate, notify or play the sound :S
As I'm using the mail for my work exchange server, I wonder - how can you tell the mail arrived and no notification is seen.
As you enter the mail application it will update itself. Might be that your mail application didn't check mail until you entered it and then you also saw the new mail?
Well, There's like 2-3 seconds before the app updates and there I can see that there is a new email and sometimes when it updates and there is even newer mail, those will be downloaded after update is complete.
I see...
So I can't help
I discovered a new problem, so I gathered them in this thread
Can one of the MODs please close this thread?
Hi all.
Hopefully someone can help.
Basic I've bought this tablet and it was already rooted.
I'm not sure what rom I am on but a screen picture is attached.
I am using the exchange e-mail for my gmail.
However it seems to work fine for the first few days and then it stop syncing and e-mail start disappearing out of my inbox.
I've tried deleting the account and installing them again but the same thing happens.

When it stops syncing - does it work when you sync/refresh manually from app? Do you have any battery saving apps installed? Tthose can disable network connectivity while screen is off and stop apps from background sync.
The other thought is that I wouldn't trust device used and rooted by someone else - I'd do factory reset and re-flashed ROM. Who knows what background apps are installed there?
In your email settings, try m.google.com as your incoming server.
Gmail doesn't use push when using sammy's email app. This should fix/help with auto-syncing.
Also, you have your sync setting set to peak/off peak. Maybe an issue? See if a more frequent schedule is available.
Hi guys.
Thanks for the responses.
I would flash the Rom again but I have no idea which it is.
My email settings are m.Google.com it works fine for first few days then just stops.
I then have to go into gmail to pick my missing mails.
Weird and very annoying ......
Hello,
I have successfully ported my Samsung Exhibit 4g ii to CM9 (jocala latest build); my carrier is T-mobile. Everything works fine except the built-in email. The email has an annoying problem that it sometimes fails to display the text message on screen. After restart the issue usually go away. Since I am using the phone to check business emails, losing the email text can be quite inconvenient.
I wonder if this is a known issue. Being new to this forum I could not find a FAQ for Android general or Exhibit 4g ii. Any comments are welcome.
Thanks!

i have the same phone same cm9 jocala build
are you talking about gmail or the built in email program? i only use gmail and no issues there.
i guess you can set your gmail to access business email account so you can use gmail app?
I am talking about the built-in email program, not gmail.
Specifically I am using the built-in email program to connect to my business account in Microsoft Exchange.

Hi nref
I have the same Issue with the e-mail program as well. I don't have a solution but have 2 workarounds.
1. I installed ES Task manager and every time e-mail will give me a blank screen, I quit email, go task manager, clear cache and come back to email and it shows the text (note you need to come back to email via the email icon , not long pressing home and app switching).
2. The problem is that email shows white text on white bkground. if the text issue is not resolved by above, I select all of the text and paste it in notepad and read it there. I think I haven't had to use this since the last build.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you find a better solution.
Hi dcnarad,
The tips definitely helped! Now I do not have to restart the phone. Thanks again for the advice.

no Text in Email - workaround
hello,
I have another workaround for that problem:
'system settings' - 'developer options' -'kill app back button'
Next time you can't see any text in the body of an email, exit the app pressing the 'back button' until the message 'application killed' appears.
When you now start the email-app again, you can see the text. This is the same procedure like killing it in a taskmanager.
