Nexus S SIM Connector (faulty)?? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a brand new Nexus S that I believe has a faulty SIM slot. I saw one of the middle pins broken/missing. Strangely, one of my SIMs (Chatr Wireless from Canada) works fine - no other SIM works.
Any ideas if this is an easy repair or should I take this to Samsung for a warranty repair?
Thanks!

Sure - I'm trying to get it replaced. If that doesn't happen, will get the phone back and post a picture.

Have attached the following. Sorry about the blurry-cam. My iphone 4 doesn't take great pictures - also the Nexus S still had the plastic wrappers.
The last picture that shows "No SIM" is actually with a SIM card inside.
If you find a fix - do share.

thanks can u post a picture of the simcard slot with out the simcard thanks

I have seen the no sim error on my phone after keeping it in my pocket during a mtb ride. I just figured the bumps jarred the sim around.

Here are the 2 pics of the sim card slot without the SIM. Notice the middle gold connector missing/broken? Am pretty sure that's the reason it's not reading the SIM. Chatr SIMs might not be using the middle SIM point of contact.

Update: Quick fix. Got a thin conductor strip and placed it at the entrance of the missing middle gold connector and lo-behold it's reading all SIMs now. Seems like a proper solder will fix it for sure....for now this will work!

Message: "SIM card missing" after dismantling

I dismantled my Polaris yesterday. Since I did it, it says "SIM card missing". I'm sure the SIM connector that plugs into the motherboard is well attached, but there's is not way for it to get the SIM card. I soft-reseted it lots of times because somebody told it could be the solution (after taking apart Polaris into pieces).
I don't know what to do. Looking into the forums somebody also said that some "EMI gasket" is vital for it to work, but I don't remember having removed it
Please, help me.
Thanks.
I have exactly the same problem...
Sim card missing after dismantling..
I already ordered sim card board and replaced, without success.
Unfortunatelly i should say goodbye to my Polaris, since it seems that the connector socket placed on motherboard is destroyed after an accidentally pulling of the sim board cable..
Time to get a new device anyway. Hopefully a HTC
Sent from my HTC Polaris using XDA App
I have the same
I had the same problem. The little ribbon cable that connects the SIM board to the motherboard was damaged during the dismantling process. I ordered a replacement SIM board from a chinese web site for as little as $6.50 (free shipping). It took a while to arrive but it did solve my problem!

I actually bought it on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sim-Card-Holder...096941?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f0504236d
They sent me 2 pieces for the cost of 1. The reason is that the first one got delayed so they sent me a second one assuming the first was lost in the mail. They gladly told me I can keep the second one for free.
The chinese site is DealExtreme. What I bought from DealExtreme was a repalcement touch screen digitizer for only $7.01:

Hello,
I´ve got the same problem, but I have never dismantled my device. Is it possible that this is a software defect ? The error happens sometimes but not always. Sometimes I have no signal (and the simcard can not be read)...I have this problem since I have changed my simcard, because the old one was about 10 years old and it had not support for 3G. After changing the simcard the problems began...At this moment it is the 4th simcard, because the others were destroyed by the phone (it was impossible to read any data from them e.g. in other phones/pc).
So do you think that this is a software or a hardwaredefect ?
Thanks in advice.

[Q] (No Sim Detected) | (No Service)

HI all, I am currently using khalpowers V4, and was using Dexter's 1.3 before too.
What is happening is that every hour or so, the phone will detect no sim card. I'll have to remove battery, take out sim, re insert in, and HOPE it works on my next reboot (chances varies, some times it takes a while before it reads again).
I am not sure if its a hardware or software issue, my sim card is fairly scratched (don't know if that plays a role in this).
What i realize recently is that once i get that problem, i can get into open recovery and wipe DALVIK cache, and it'll detect it again without having me to remove and reinsert my sim card.
Was wondering if this is just me or the rom? Or if anyone have any experience with this kind of madness, this is driving me nuts as i have to restart my phone every hour.

i'll agree with this
it's probably the SIM card that has got scratched, faulty, or something happened to it
i had to replace mine a while back for similar reasons
actually i was unable to send SMS out, but i was able to receive.
and incidentally i'll randomly get no signal
after i changed the SIM card for a new one, all the problems went away.
that was on my other phone.
never had problem on the XT720
extract rar folder then take the only (sub khalpowers V4 folder) and put the SD card installed .... ok ......You'll see it works ... the problem is the double folder

Thanks, i just wanted to confirm if it really is the sim, i suspect it is, but the thing is that it KINDA works, and then don't.... i guess i'll have to invest in a new sim card. Anyone know if Wind will give me a new one if i whine to them?

Could it be a loose connection? I've read about people that have trouble with loose connections on their SD cards positioning a piece of paper to increase the contact force.

yup, i got my replacement for free, but you have to first call customer service, and explain to them what is going on
then if they believe it's a SIM problem, they will tell you to go to any corporate store, and they will replace it for you at no charge
the CS will put a note on your profile, which the store can look up, and honour the free SIM replacement.

unfortunately i tried that already, but executed the idea in a VERY poor way, i actually put the paper at the tip of the sim and pushed it in to make the contact better, BUT when i slide the sim out, the papaer was still stuck inside, now i can't push my sim in all the way.... at least it still works .....
felt retarded, but at least lesson learned ><

Thanks i'll give them a call and give it a try.
I had the exact same problem for a week. At first the SIM got disconnected after leaving the phone idle for 10-20 minutes, then after many reboots the SIM card wouldn't be detected at all.
I got it replaced for free as well, and some of my other messaging and call problems went away too. =)

[Q] Inspire stops recognizing SIM

I read the threads of others having with their phones not recognizing their SIMs and none had a solution. I hope someone has figured out something other than getting another phone.
My Inspire was rooted by On The Go Solutions. It has Android 2.3.5 and Revolution HD 6.3.1.
At odd times it stops recognizing the SIM. I can't find any specific cause like running an app that might cause it. I've tried flashing a couple of different ROMs myself but that didn't make a difference. (I'm a lightweight on the tech stuff.)
The SIM works fine in 2 other phones.
Anyone find a solution to this problem?
I had this problem before. What worked for me and a few others that I know was to add a few layers of tape to the back of the sim card. This will make it extra tight in the socket. I guess the contacts on the phone for the card are just not that great for the connection. I have not had an issue since.
I tried a piece of paper and that didn't help.

Using some of the info here, I have been working with the SIM and the phone and I may have finally got it working. I used a little rubbing alcohol on a thin screen cleaning cloth and cleaned the SIM contact and the phone's SIM slot, blew them dry and then reinserted the SIM with a very thin piece of plastic on top to set it in the slot tighter. It is VERY tight. The phone has worked for almost 2 days without a problem. If it works for a week, I'll consider the problem solved.
Cleaning the contacts and making the SIM tighter did not work. (

[Q]OPO doesn't recognize my sim. Need help guys

Hi All,
I have purchased OPO in september but I got it delivered to India yesterday only. I tried to insert my sim in the correct way like shown in the image, but to my surprise , I am getting the below error.
So I did a research and tried the following steps
Tried the 3g and 2g option. Did a restart.
My sim is actually a micro sim that is not cut from the mini sim. I am using it perfectly in my nexus 4.
Watched the videos on how to insert the sim properly. Did according to that.
So I thought there my be some bugs in the stock( I am on 38R) . So unlocked the bootloader and flashed the CM nightly. Same issue exists.
Then reverted back to stock and updated to 44S. Same issue exists.
The phone is working fine with everything. But it is unable to read my sim. I have tried my dad's sim which is used in Moto G.
So I took a video and posted it on youtube. Please go through it and let me know if I have damaged any of the golden PINs.

Thanks for your patience.

Lol no.
I can see the airplane mode icon in the picture you uploaded.
Try this :
1) Turn Airplane mode ON
2) Turn Airplane mode OFF
3) Reboot your phone (not software reboot, a real one)
This is the error I an getting.
Maybe your Sim is locked or not activated. Try the Sim in another phone.

No man it is working fine in nexus 4.
Even though you mention making sure the SIM is inserted the right way, I just want to confirm;
when looking at the screen, the SIM should be _below_ the tray and facing with the pins to the back.
But it is unable to read my sim. I have tried my dad's sim which is used in Moto G

Do you mean your dad's sim is working in the OPO? Or is it a no-go either? If the first applies; you may want to try having your carrier replace the SIM.
It seems the Oneplus is sometimes a bit tricky regarding the SIM.
Was going to add my voice to this as my opo arrived yesterday and I fell into that trap
I would suggest putting a cloth down on the table then lay the phone screen down, put your sim card in the tray(the only way it can go) and slide it home (that way the sim contacts will be facing you and as the tray goes in (hope that made sense)
If that does not work then contact your carrier about a replacement, fickle things sim cards

Yes you are correct . Its a trap but I did check a youtube video first before inserting the sim . It shows the way you described. But still its a no go. I think my OPO is defective or somehow I may have damaged the sim slot.

difficult for me to say I feel for you if you need to get a new unit as it was tough enough to get that one, would for sure contact your carrier as I think that will be easier than trying to get a replacement, let us know how you go
Yeah looking at the error message it seems to be a problem with the sim card not the phone itself. Correct me if I am wrong.

So i took a new sum from my carrier and used it in my OPO. I hoped that changing the sim might resolve the issue but it didn't. After removing the sim i saw some scratches on the side of the sim. So i thought the golden pins might cause this. So i will go for a RMA. You can see the image of the sim.
That card is toast, that happened putting it into the opo ?

remarkable well new phone it is then
It looks like the pins are bent on your 1+1 to do that damage on the sim card. Was your phone used because sometimes people use sim adapters to fit a nano sim into a micro sim phone and when they try to remove the card/adapter it gets caught in the pins and bends them.

Yeah you're right. It looks like the pins are bent. But my phone is not an used one.
consider replacing it if you can't RMA
I just found this check this out replacement part! I might try to fix mine with this now http://vifocal.com/sim-card-reader-connector-junctor-replacement-for-oneplus-one-smartphone.html

Sim not reading

Okay have this phone a while but only as back up
However its not reading any Sim but where the sim goes in bit cracked.
Anyone got any ideas as to try and fix this?
If not going to check in brick and mortars shop to see if it can be fixed
it is possible, that the Sim / Simholder was insert in the wrong direction?
In this case the cardholder could be broken. This is/was a known issue, where everyone with this phone must give attention
So is there any solution to this if it is the case.
Take it not easy to find a new tray?
If it really this issue, a new Small part (Cardholder) must be replaced. The part is not expensive, the biggest part is the work. But possible
Bought new cardholder and same issue not reading
Any other suggestions or just leave it in for repair

Sounds like at some point somebody shoved in a standard sim instead of a micro sim, or shoved it in backwards. Either way I'd get a multimeter and test the voltage for the sim connectors by taking the back of the phone off. This is basically what they would do at the phone repair shop if they couldn't get it to read any Sims, before entirely replacing it. This way you'd know exactly what is wrong with your sim port.
The oneplus one takes micro sims not nano sims
