So, I was just admiring my i9023 in a cab. Noticed that when the sun reflects off of the glass, the reflected image is a square with a neat little "X" in the middle. Anyone else notice this? Haha, it's pretty whatever but, I thought it was kinda nifty. I guess it's cos of the curved glass.
How about a picture?

i'm not sure, but deejay may be onto something here. i've just had a go at trying to reflect some light, and saw somewhat of an x in the middle of the screen - it didn't look like finger smudges as it was too perfect an 'X' (no screen protector here!)
this will be awesome for burning ants when they attack in x-formation!

I tried taking a picture with the FFC but, it was awkward. My phone's being replaced; I found a dead pixel.
Hm on my xoom you can see lots of tiny little X's but thats the digitizer, are you guys talking about a X like in the boot up? but a stationary image?
It's like

I noticed it when I first got my phone 3 months ago. I thought my phone was scratched up..
i have the 9020 and i dont see any x's.so its only the 23? that has it?
I will post a picture when I get a replacement phone from Samsung.
I believe what it is that you are seeing has something to do with the S-LCD screen of the i9023 model of the Nexus S and those of us with the i9020 varients will not see this as our screens are SAMOLED.
My HTC HD7 has a bunch of little dots in it when you look at it in the light and it has an LCD display.
I have just looked at my Nexus S in the light and see nothing and again I have an i9020 model with SAMOLED screen.
I'll try to post a picture too asap, I must say this phone looks amazing when it's naked!
And I used to like the iPhone's design...
Yeah I think that any LCD variant has the XXXX in sunlight, but not any variant of Amoled. My Touch Pro2 did this (regular LCD) and both my N1 and NS don't do this.
It's the digitizer, for the love of god, not a design pattern.

Rub some sand/gravel on it next time. You probably wont get as lucky. Typical keys are made out of mild steel so it would make sense that the glass might resist heavy damage. Have you turned your screen off and examined in good light? The bolt does supposedly have GG. I'd still get a screen protector, with a good one you'll never know it was there, the vzw one is a pos.
I already have a flaw in my screen, looks like a little dot that I have no idea how it got there as I have not done anything to cause it. This is a physical thing on the "glass" that you can see with the screen off/on. Not a dead pixel or anything.
Id still get a screen protector. I boight my TB, had it in my pocket for a day, and somehow got a scratch down the middle of the screen. If its gorilla glass, its not as good as other screens.

Get the Steinheil Ultra Crystal (http://www.sgpstore.com/cell-phone/...-screen-protector-steinheil-ultra-series.html). You'll never notice it's on without looking waaay too closely at your phone.
Are those screen protectors or tampons? The boxes threw me off.

Well, I would assume screen protectors, but then I've never spent much time looking at tampon boxes.

Well... that was dumb.
I have one of the anti glare ones from the VZW store. Hurts my eyes to look through this thing.
OP must have money to burn. I have a zagg screen cover but I would never key my phone on purpose
I have a nice 1/2" scratch right along the upper middle of my screen. Don't know what caused it but its deep, my finger nail catches on it if i rub it across it. The glass isn't that tough.

I second this. I cant even see the thing on my screen (unless you look at the seam at the bottom).
Heh, keys are nothing. I keep my TB without any covers in my pocket for most of the day. I can throw anything in there with the phone and have no damage. Ironically enough though, the one day I have it in there with nothing else, I have a nice slash right down the screen. The little specks of crap that lay around your pockets are what do the damage, not the big things.
i think you guys might have faulty glass... i dunno..it seems tough to me.. way tougher than my iphone for sure...

It also feels like I'm actually touching the glass.
Try scratching it with a rusty nail to see what happens. Oh and can you record it and post on YouTube so we can all see!?

Hi Everyone,
I recently bought a Oneplus one and am a bit disappointed with the display. Besides having the yellow part at the bottom, when I look a little at it at an angle I see the screen tint to whitish almost blue and this effect increases as my eyes level to the surface, this is best seen by looking from the right corner of the screen with a black background. Is this normal? I only need my head to be slightly away from the screen to notice it. Also I notice light bleed from the top.
Let me know if this is just an effect of the LCD display and if its normal. I've used amoled displays before this.
Regards,
Bobbie

I don't have this issue on mine. Honestly though, why is it such an issue? The scenario you're describing would just never happen in the normal use of the phone, nobody looks at their phone on such an angle when using it.

Hi Heisenberg,
Thanks for the quick reply. I do notice it during normal use otherwise it wouldn't be a problem. The phone is on the left side of my computer now and as i'm looking at it I notice the whitish blue tint while using a black background.

Fair enough. Dunno what to say though, I have two of these and neither of them have a tint when viewed on any angles. I initially thought my screen protector might be why but that can't be the case because one of them doesn't have a protector on it.

Mine does have a screen protector on it that was already on it when I received it, could it cause some kind of tinting? I only see it from an angle not if i just look down from the top to the bottom of the phone, then it looks perfect.

It's possible. Those films that come already on the phone aren't actually screen protectors as such, well they're not meant to be used for an extended period of time anyway, they're really just to give light protection during the shipping process. I'd recommend you remove that one and get yourself a good tempered glass protector. The Nillkin 9H is exceptional and it's quite cheap too (less than $10).
I took the plunge and decided to try out the S6... 32GB in black (don't need 64GB). Anyway, I'm already sketched out about AMOLED screens as it is since I am OCD when it comes to screens. I tried to stick with LCD/IPS but all current IPS Android phones suck, such as the G4 and the M9. Most of the market now uses AMOLED screens.
Well... I get the phone home and I was actually amazed that it was decently uniform, no horrible pink areas, grays seem as even as I can get on an AMOLED screen, so I guess it'll work. HOWEVER... when angling the phone downward, or looking at the phone from the top, I notice these strange "scratches" or whatever. They're not on the glass and they don't appear at any other angles, including both sides and from the bottom. I've attached some pics to show you what I'm referring to.
Has anyone seen this kind of thing before? Just my luck that I think I finally get a screen that's as perfect as can be and there's still something wrong with it. Honestly as long as it doesn't get worse I guess I'll live with it, I hate playing the AMOLED screen lottery like I've done in the past.
Use the phone looking straight on rather than an angle like that as it is intended to be looked at.

Didn't the launch S6 have issues with various scratches under the glass? I could have sworn that was a legitimate issue. If anything try taking it back to the store to see if they will replace it for you without having to hassle with the insurance if you have it.

Yeah those pink scratches don't look right, I would ask them to turn on new phone and you do your inspection before they transfer line over.

I did look up the assumed "issue" and didn't turn up anything, just the issue with the outer glass being scratched on new Edge models.
Honestly I don't see them until I turn the phone at that angle, which I'm sure 95% of the time won't be viewing the screen from that position anyway. And honestly with my OCD with AMOLEDs and this screen being acceptable is a sigh of relief, so as long as the pink marks don't spread or become visible with normal viewing I'll deal with it. That, and I got the phone at a good price so it's still a win for me I guess.
This was a very hot issue at launch and it effected all variants not just the edge.

Disregard this thread. Because of the junk speaker, horrible LTE and wifi reception and terrible battery life this phone went back. Very disappointed with Samsung.
I'm glad I don't really have any of those issues...or at least I'll pretend like I dont.
Anyone else notice the lines hidden in the front glass? It's definitely part of the construction and is impossible to see from the light on the lcd. You can see it if you catch glare from a lightbulb and only on the exact spot of the glare.
Just curious, but to me this looks like a ridging pattern to make the glass strong. Has anyone seen this on other phones or this phone?
I noticed the lines too last night.
Yep but its an LCD panel with Sharps edge technology. Otherwords: it is what it is. The screen looks fake once I turn it on.
sometimes I notice the lines from the touch layer in the right lighting on nearly all my devices... is that what your seeing?

I haven't had a device yet where the sensor could not be seen in the correct light.
Even my Nexus 6P shows lines with light at the correct angle.

I believe so. They are definitely inside the glass. I've just never seen them on another phone. Like I said I cant see them unless it's a direct glare hitting it from a lightbulb or something.

That sounds normal. I don't have the device yet, so I'm just going by my own experience on other devices.
While it is much more distinct on this device. It's normal. I can even see it on my pixel XL if I'm looking for it.

I started looking at my phone and it looks like the left side of screen has more black bezel than the right. I will post pics later today. Really upset if this is true. With the 6T I had an issue and the RMA experience is horrible. Post pics of your side bezel so I can compare. Post with case on and off.
I was looking at mine, sorry i cant post a pic. what i think you might be noticing is that the factory installed screen protector is just the tinniest bit to the right. at least, thats what i notice on mine. you cant see it unless you really examine it closely, but the bezels are definitely the same on both sides.

It's seems to be really noticable with white background. Or maybe it's the stock case that cut uneven. Put on your stock case and see if one side of the phone shows more bezel. I am using the clear stock case and that might be the issue.
you might be right. best test i could think of was hiding the navbar, then going into an app where theres a text input box on the bottom. this way, you can compare the curve along the box

This is the best pic I can take off the screen not aligned. Not sure if you can tell but with the bright sunlight you can see where it's misaligned. Left side is off by a bit.
I see what you're talking about, but I do think it's the stock case as well (i'm still using the stock case) and not the phone, because when I take the case off and look at the actual bezel of the phone, it's the same
Looking at it with the sun directly shining on the screen. You can see the AMOLED is slightly shifted to the right.

If you forward the the 6:10 mark you can see the AMOLED screen is not glued to glass. This issue I have can become very common.
