Update to OP

that's soooooooo helpful, thank you very very much

Excellent stuff. Thanks for that.

Excellent guide.
Specially for the adb noobs (just like me)

adb and sd-ext
Thank you very much for your guide. Very helpful.
I do not see the THANKS button under your article for me to click on it.
BTW, I do wonder if adb could be useful for me to deal with my Galaxy S2's external sd card that has disappeared. Can I use adb commands in order to try to fix that issue?
Thanks.

depending on the rom version it could be called " external_sd " or just "sd" look for either of those "folders" in your internal "/sdcard"

Well, thank you for your reply.
I've stock Android 2.3.5; I do see "external_sd" under /sdcard.
But "/sdcard/external_sd" contents nothing at all though a 16gig sdcard containing data (music+videos copied in it under Windows7) is actually plugged in the phone.
The problem appeared after I've rooted the phone with CF-Root for Galaxy S2.
I know I should look elsewhere on xda for that but I do not find any thread about "Samsung Galaxy S2 external sd card no longer detected". Only some other phone like DesireHD or Vibrant have been reported to have a similar issue. And no good solution where showed up.
I also cannot post on CF-Root thread because it says "You have less that 10 posts, so you cannot post here."
I thought using 'adb' could help fixing that problem.
Thank you again. Now I see the Thanks button under your post, so... <click>!

post in the Galaxy S II Questions and Answer area. the cf-root thread is for development not questions.
might want to check out my new user guide to find your way around.

Wow great guide! Thanks so much!
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium

why not just add the adb directory to the system PATH under environment variables? then you don't need to create another cmd shortcut just to open up in that directory and you can run adb from anywhere.

this is a "super simple" noob guide. half the words you just used would just confuse noobs

That is DDMS
You don't have to root your device.
1.) Install SDK (To your computer) and setup ADB (Find some guides..)
2.) Go to settings>Applications>>Development>>Select USB debugging
3.) Open CMD on your computer & type "ddms" w/o quotes
4.) Give it a second and a new window will open
5.) Select your device
6.) Then in there select device at the top, then screen capture.

I believe he meant that he is unrooted and tried the screencapture apps that require root.
@Sax1981 Those apps are using a method of taking a screen capture that requires root, there would have to be a new app, designed for the new kernel that could take stock screencaps.

[TOOL] Android Injector

CHECK THIS LINK TO UNLOCK THE "Unknown Sources" OPTION ON YOUR NON ROOTED ANDROID PHONE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107499
Now you can install apps on your Android powered phone or device without having to get them through the Android Market.
Android Injector allows you to quickly and easily install apps that you have downloaded to your computer in the form of ".apk" files onto your Android phone or device. Some phones do not allow you to install apps from any other source except the Android Market. However, some app authors do not release their apps to the Android Market and elect to put them on other sites such as Getjar.com. Android Injector allows you to download apps from those other sources to your computer and then install them onto your phone from your computer quickly and easily via USB connection.
Just install the USB drivers for your phone or device onto your computer (check your carrier or device manufacturer for drivers), connect your phone to your computer via a USB cable, select any amount of Android app files (.apk) and click "Install to device". No rooting or any of that complicated stuff.

Awesome!
Awesome app! Thanks!
Would be awesome if it was available for Mac/Linux
This app is superb!!!
But please, make a shortcut on the context menu, when right-click over an apk file on the explorer... please.. make it... it make the process so much more simple...
Does it work on Nook color?
Sorry to ask (or someone will say try it) but if it does this would be an awesome achievement and a reason to keep the stock format on the nook color and get all the other apps you want with the new update. Great job on your app it looks great and reviews speak well of it.
I love it!
some doubt
hi,
good work BUT i think that the same thing could be possible with a simple shurtcut to a batch on which you drop one or a group of APK files....
I use that method...
Dude, nice! It even has drag&drop function! Really nice work, thanks
Good work! Highly appreciated.
I do have some questions and comments:
(1) what's the method behind this? How exactly does it work?
(2) are you aware of any legal or technical side effects from using this method?
(3) does the utility support any command-line parameters? If so, it'd be negligible to add a shell option to interface with Explorer.
Thanks again!
Does this alleviate the need to push an .odex file?
This is nice, might come in handy, Great work!!

[flashable] wget feature in terminal

I know this is going to be at least useful for me, and anyone else that is familiar with wget. That's why I got it working for the EVO (and soon for the Xoom). If you are familiar with the linux system, you should know what the wget command is ;-) Below is a screenshot to show it works.
You must be rooted to use this.
Instructions:
1) Download zip file below to your SD card.
2) Boot into recovery and flash the zip.
3) Reboot
To use: (I will make this a easier process in next update.)
1) Open any terminal emulator of your choice.
2) type "su" without the quotes
3) type cd system/app/wget
4) type wget http://xxx.com/filename.extention
and watch it download! (as shown below)

Yeah compiz would be neat haha -- trying to port this to the Xoom as well.
I am working on a .sh that you will be able to kick off once you load up terminal so you can use this wget tool without having to CD into directories at all. I'll probably have this up by the end of the day.
Let me know if you have any questions
I'll try to play with it when i get home today, if i have time that is.
I just did a successful wget on my rooted evo and I don't have your files installed.
Busybox 1.18 allows this feature already...no need for extra files.
