The G2X kernel sources just hit the CM repository. I've built it, and with some munging, managed to get everything working except for the vibrator (including wireless! Finally!)
Good news.

That's good news. When you get the vibration to function maybe you can post it so we can try it out. Maybe we will see a release really soon.

On a serious note, looks like once CM7 rolls out for the G2X we will be seing Google Talk Video Chat (Android 2.3.4). That's the one Google started rolling out for the Nexus S yesterday.

Yup and they are there and they work and it's just that the LG version of Android (yuck) doesn't want to play with this kernel.

There is no way to just include those drivers?
What kind of problems will we run into by running a kernel less than 2.6.35? I'm assuming they are using the leaked LG Gingerbread rom V20f which is using a froyo kernel and once LG updates the kernel and releases the source with 2.6.35+, it'll be fairly easy to merge it into CM source right?

None... cm7 team will work with the froyo kernel and froyo user space drivers (since only froyo source and firmware are available right now). Several phones are in the same state such as desire HD,z,thunderbolt,mt4g etc. This is why cm7 team is so awesome, they can give you gingerbread with what's given. Now I kinda wish I have this phone

Curious if the kernel source was released as well, and whether it can be determined how HTC removed the 30FPS cap...if they came up with their own solution or if the lifted it from the devs here on XDA?
if you build it...
I'm just hoping some of the devs can use this to help in their ROM updates.
The source code for the kernels has been released as well... so I'm sure cyanogen will work with the camera drivers as soon as he can

anyone notice the Inspire Kernel is larger than the DHD kernel with the same version number?
That could support what we are seeing that the hardware is different.

The tinny sound =/= kernel. It is ROM based. The CM7 kernel out right now is official. Run the cm7 nightly build 6, the audio fix and see what I am saying. They already plan on integrating the fix with RC2.

Not really, CM7 is running great, but the call quality is horrible on anything but the stock rom...

Is this true??? Everything that I have read on XDA supports the fact that the reason the sound is tinny is because we don't have kernel source. Do you have facts to back this up? Because if it is rom related I feel like that would be easier to fix.

If your on a stock rom flash a different kernel sound is the same(this has been confirmed). Then flash DHD rom and sound goes to hell its in the ROM.

To elaborate, the 1.84 based Sense ROMs, which are made for the Inspire 4G and the Telus DHD work well with the new kernel.
Any ROM built for the DHD (1.34 or 1.72 version) will not have good sound with the new Inspire 4G kernel.
I agree with chrisryn that his is ROM based.

Here
I will say call quality is not perfect but it is much better.
With my research and what I have seen people respond with the original idea that this was a sense based issue seems to be wrong. There is something in the rom that other roms need to fix the sound issue. Until that is tracked down this will still be an issue. I originally thought it was something in the phone.apk but others are saying the sound issue is in music and other areas as well.
Is there any chance for us to have new kernel 3.x for G2X ICS?
Faux123 has an unofficial/unsupported beta out (same disclaimer as the SK) and I saw Morfic saying something in the direction of releasing one at some point as well. Once ICS is at least into beta stages I wouldn't expect to see a whole lot of mods for it.

That wasn't his question. Haha, he was asking if we hould have an updated kernel based off of 3.x. Right now we have 2.x.x.x
To the OP: I doubt we will, unless nVidia finally decides to release the drivers.

Sad but true. we have some great Dev's, i know they will tune, tweak, port and hack the best they can. I have faith In them.
We had a dev over in galaxy s 4g that was trying the same for that phone. until the noobs n whiners pushed him away. sad day
anyway, he went through and strip the samsung built kernel to a minimum to match with an AOSP kernel. then compared it to an AOSP 3.x kernel and tried to port that way. dont know how far he gotten but that might work.
of course some drivers may not be compatible but it shouldnt be worse than with 2.x kernels in ICS.
Also, 3.x is just because Linus wanted to up the version number for the hell of it. He said so himself, there isnt any drastic change
Thank you for your post. You gave me some ideas on what to do. I am on EB's ics and have an error with wifi calling.....I will tell ya more later if this idea works. Thank you.

Also consider that the International sgs2 uses the Exynos421x processor, where as the sgs4g uses the intrepid-hummingbird S5PC110 processor. Totally different.
7TimesCursed just gave me a tip that will help me move forward with CM7. (something I was hung up on)
CM9 is also still under development. A port would mean a buggy phone.
An ICS port would indeed be better.
After CM7 port is done, I still have plans to rebase our phone specific kernel stuff to the samsung aosp kernel. That my help us port to the 3.0.1 kernel that ICS uses. This is still a ways off, and hopefully by then CM9 will stabilize.
To the future!

No worries! I was trying to be more informational.
First off, i would like to say, I DO NOT OWN THIS ROM! Nor am i taking any credit for anything. This rom was made, compiled, and uploaded, so there for belongs to, temasek.
Recently, temasek has started making his rom available for g2x. He did not want to make a thread, so he agreed to me making it for him. This rom is identical to his o2x rom, except compiled for the g2x.
You can check out the original rom thread here, for changelogs, features, etc here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421425
