Don't know if i'm ignorant or seeing things but it looks like HTC my have droped the 2.6.32 kernel source code for the Inspire on their development channel.

Sorry if I'm wrong or this is old news.

HTC Inspire 4G - 2.6.32 kernel source code
Awesome, lets hope we find a fix for that sound problem

Nice. Let the fun continue!!!

Awesome news! Yeah, I'm hoping we get an audio fix as well. It would make all these awesome ROMs awesome...er!

Bring on CM7 with proper Inspire kernel!

niceeeee. pumped about this

Yes the kernel source is nice but sound issue is in the rom not kernel

I second that emotion

anyone notice the Inspire Kernel is larger than the DHD kernel with the same version number?
That could support what we are seeing that the hardware is different.

Yes but an "official" one would be much better

Does this mean MIUI can work with sound now?

The tinny sound =/= kernel. It is ROM based. The CM7 kernel out right now is official. Run the cm7 nightly build 6, the audio fix and see what I am saying. They already plan on integrating the fix with RC2.

Not really, CM7 is running great, but the call quality is horrible on anything but the stock rom...

Is this true??? Everything that I have read on XDA supports the fact that the reason the sound is tinny is because we don't have kernel source. Do you have facts to back this up? Because if it is rom related I feel like that would be easier to fix.

If your on a stock rom flash a different kernel sound is the same(this has been confirmed). Then flash DHD rom and sound goes to hell its in the ROM.

To elaborate, the 1.84 based Sense ROMs, which are made for the Inspire 4G and the Telus DHD work well with the new kernel.
Any ROM built for the DHD (1.34 or 1.72 version) will not have good sound with the new Inspire 4G kernel.
I agree with chrisryn that his is ROM based.

Here
I will say call quality is not perfect but it is much better.

With my research and what I have seen people respond with the original idea that this was a sense based issue seems to be wrong. There is something in the rom that other roms need to fix the sound issue. Until that is tracked down this will still be an issue. I originally thought it was something in the phone.apk but others are saying the sound issue is in music and other areas as well.

I know theres the Cyanogen ROM but thats not a vanilla ROM... I be more then willing to make one but then i don't have the Gingerbread drivers or the AOSP... Last time i tried making an Android ROM for my HD2 progress didn't go no where near flashing

I too use that font. If you are going to use the flashable zip on a gingerbread rom you have to downgrade to cwr 2.5.1.x with amend script support.
there is a pure 2.3 gingerbread that faux put out. its not CM or anything its a base ASOP thats been built straight from google code if you want to check it out. its in the rom development area.
Yeah, was going to recommend Faux's AOSP build in the dev section. I haven't used it, but it is probably as close to pure AOSP as you are going to get and still be functional. Check it out.
Don't forget about ultimate Droid, 3.2.0 new for mytouch that has Gingerb, and idk if its vanilla but I can install the rom with 2.5.1.2 recovery, if that means anything at all lol

CM7 Kernel in the CM repository

The G2X kernel sources just hit the CM repository. I've built it, and with some munging, managed to get everything working except for the vibrator (including wireless! Finally!)
Good news.

On a serious note, looks like once CM7 rolls out for the G2X we will be seing Google Talk Video Chat (Android 2.3.4). That's the one Google started rolling out for the Nexus S yesterday.

What kind of problems will we run into by running a kernel less than 2.6.35? I'm assuming they are using the leaked LG Gingerbread rom V20f which is using a froyo kernel and once LG updates the kernel and releases the source with 2.6.35+, it'll be fairly easy to merge it into CM source right?

None... cm7 team will work with the froyo kernel and froyo user space drivers (since only froyo source and firmware are available right now). Several phones are in the same state such as desire HD,z,thunderbolt,mt4g etc. This is why cm7 team is so awesome, they can give you gingerbread with what's given. Now I kinda wish I have this phone

I have been working with MiuiAnderson to figure out why the build process is not working for the sgs4g. I can build it for the i9000 with no problems...
You won't need a different kernel with this. It ports MIUI to your custom rom.
I will post another update when he gets back to me..
yeah... its been out for while i think... hopefully this will make it for a MIUI ROM on this phone too with official support and stuff

KERNELS aren't bad once you know where in the source to find certain things that might need some tweaking to work on ported roms. Our phone uses the HTC-msm-7x30 and there's tons of msm-7x30 devices by htc out there that a lot of the hardware is the same. If you want to try and port a kernel just search github for msm-7x30. Only device specific things in the kernels are things like the hardware keyboard, camera/video drivers and things like that which you can find in toastcfh's kernel.

This is all correct... I'll also add that the G2/desireZ (vision) is almost the same as the shift, making it, for the most part, easiest to port. I highly recommend dl'ing Toastcfh's source and a few others (scary ghoul, sparksco, x99) so you can compare. It's convenient to have a solid source to look back on when you get compiling errors.

This looks very interesting to me. I came to Android from the Palm Pre. So that WebOS style looks very intriguing. So what all will be in the update? I am going to wait to flash this until you get the update out and then go from there. It looks very awesome.
I suggest trying it now just to see if you like it.
The update will consist of a new pure aosp base, many tweaks like init.d and build prop, ram and sd tweaks, beats audio and more....
But I will probably be updating this sometime Monday-Thursday as I have off from work those days.
