You can't flash G2X to s-off yet.

In due time, I'm sure.

The bootloader is unlocked, S-Off refers to HTC phones. The fact that you can do a permanent root and install clockworkmod means that S-Off is irrelevant to this device.

On a particular generation of HTC phones (Desire HD/Inspire, Mytouch 4G, G2/Desire Z), when you get RADIO S-OFF you can soft-SIM-unlock the phone. This is not a general rule with HTC phones or any other brand for that matter.
Also on many of the Samsung Galaxy S phones (and Tab) you can use a different method to soft-SIM-unlock.
To my knowledge this is not usually possible on LG Androids. You would need to get an unlock code.

[Q] Will you buy Sensation if it can't S-OFF ?

hTC Sensation is coming soon ..
Many said that Sensation can't S-OFF
If this is true , will you buy it ?
hTC is perfect we all know that !
If Sensation is able to S-OFF . Then I think it can be the new King of PDA this year and next year .
what's S-OFF?
If it could NEVER achieve S-OFF, or unlocked bootloader (for xnifex), then no i would not buy it. But its always possible, just a matter of how probable, and I think its quite probable. That is why I'm buying sensation over atrix (far less probable)
Custom roms to me are a VERY important part of the android experience, one thing that really sets it apart from apple, and most definately should not be denied to end users

thanks for the explanation. don't know much about Android (yet), but I do know what's meant by that.
True but at least the phone is usable.
I come from a Motorola MIlestone where stock is a JOKE. Even with Launcher Pro, you're looking at a slideshow. Without an overclock and a lot of mods, the phone is utter crap.
Hey we don't have an unlocked bootloader but at least we achieved ROOT. Without S-OFF, the phone is practically useless. However, the benefit is that Sense 3.0 is damn sexy at least. I think I could make do with that.
No way, custom ROMs is a very important part of the Android experience for me.

If your flashing roms with custom kernels (i.e. cyanogenmod or miui), then your bootloader is unlocked. Its not possible otherwise, even on nexus

You can't get S-OFF on a N1. You can only unlock the bootloader. Reboot your N1, and on the Nexus Cross splash screen, see if you can find the padlock. It's at the bottom. If it's there, the bootloader is unlocked. Simples
Only a handful of people have S-OFF on their Nexus One's here, one of which is Rusty! although I think he was trying to sell his a few weeks back.
I'm waiting till the Sensation is rooted and bootloader unlocked before I buy one. I may wait till S-OFF is available, but I'll see how things look after it's rooted and the bootloader is unlocked.

My nexus still says S-ON, but just above that in pink writing, it says unlocked, or something like that
Plus the unlock pic on boot up is another give away, but later rooting methods bypassed that somehow, being unlocked but not showing unlock symbol. Not sure how or whatever cause I unlocked mine 2 weeks after I bought it
But I can guarantee if your flashing custom kernels, your unlocked. As android will not allow custom kernels to be flashed unless you have an insecure bootloader

Yeah - ur right - used a later method of root etc (waited for over 3 months to do it) - have no padlock or pink writing
guess i was getting confused between s-off and bootloader lock etc
thanks for clearing that up for me
my head still hurts though.......
why bother about custom roms if the stock rom probably can't be better.
I'am running RCMix S on my HTC desire because the stock software is outdated.
by the time the software of the sensation won't be updated anymore (1,5year) it will be rooted/s-off
I'm waiting to see and feel one in a shop before buying it, I really like the specs but find it quite big.

Videotron/Mobilicity Panache thread

I don't own an MT4G or Panache, but I started this thread for the inevitable arrival of Mobilicity & Videotron customers who would like to mod an HTC Panache. Once the MyTouch 4G Gingerbread update came out, it was found that the Fre3vo root exploit (originally found for the Sensation/Evo 3D) will also temp-root this phone. To get S-OFF you have to roll back to an old Froyo MT4G firmware - from there you can roll back forward to anything you want.
Differences between MT4G Gingerbread and Panache for the purpose of this thread:
- Panache requires a gold card because the ROM you roll back to comes from a different carrier.
- Your preferences in terms of what ROM to put on your phone after S-OFF may be different from T-Mobile customers - ergo, discuss here if this is an issue.

If Gingerbreak will work on it, that would be the only difference, instead rooting with Visionary+, they'll root with Gingerbreak and proceed with the same S-OFF guide, hopefully flashing engineering bootloader.

There is someone else here on the forum who flashed the entire firmware of the Panache onto his MT4G and was unable to re-root with Gingerbreak even for temp root. Fortunately the user in question had Radio S-OFF so was eventually able to fix it. But this hints that Gingerbreak won't work.

That was me. And yes, none of the rooting methods out there will work on panache (including gingerbreak by SOC) firmware. I had to hboot-flash the stock 2.2.1 firmware and then was able to root.

Thanks for clarifying. Of course you had S-OFF and the Mobi/Vtron Panache comes S-ON. So this leaves an open question of what is the first step to root the Panache.

Could you explain all the steps you took to achieve this on the Panache?
I just read your thread and it looks like you actually had a MT4G running the Panache ROM. But was your phone already S-OFF? If so, that'd probably explain why Gingerbreak worked. Not sure that'd fly on a factory Installed Panache.

Yes it was s-off, but another user who did that could'nt root though he also was s-off
Sent from my HTC Panache using XDA App
I see. So it's still not clear what will or won't work with a factory S-ON Panache.
It's reported that Gingerbreak does not work with S-ON Panache, but what's unclear is whether it can still be used to achieve temp root. If it can, this suggests a way to force it to an earlier T-Mo RUU which will permit the use of the S-OFF kernel exploit.
as far i know, both are same hardware and you dont need s-off to use factory RUU. thus if i can use panache RUU regardless of s-off i can flash mytouch 4g RUU on panache.

You need at the very least temproot to edit the "misc" partition before flashing an older version bootloader RUU, otherwise it will reject it. Since it is not yet established that temproot works on factory S-ON Panache, there is no established way to downgrade the RUU. So there is still no clear pathway yet.
If you say so though I still think u dont need any sort of root for official RUU.exe
Sent from my HTC Panache using XDA App
An official RUU will fail, even with a gold card, if it's an older version than the current bootloader. All MT4G official firmwares are older than the Panache's. The only way around this is a root hack.

Okay so I see on the Mobilicity and Videotron Panache that it has peak speeds of 21 Mbps whereas the MT4G is 14.4, did they make a hardware change or is this in the firmware?

I hear that the rogers version of the htc one x is able to have its bootloader unlocked using htcs unlock tool.
Is this true?

EDIT: Added a picture of my bootloader. You can clearly see at the top that although my bootloader's unlocked, I still have S-ON.
ANOTHER EDIT: I just noticed my bootloader reports the date as being April 2nd. Anyone else have the wrong date in their HBOOT? Or maybe that's not the current date, but the date which the HBOOT was built or flashed.

Nah, he said it's unbranded. So it's RUNNING on AT&T's network, but it's not an AT&T phone. As HTC has said (in not so many words), AT&T's the one that doesn't want an unlocked bootloader, it may be that Rogers doesn't have the same restrictions.

Is it at all possible that you may have used the Nexus AIO tool to try to unlock the bootloader? i say this because this section and theres have been easy to mistake if you just CTRL + F to find the phone. I found myself in the wrong forum mistakenly :| also maybe not having the ADB version different but having a different set of tools might have something. Maybe (no offense ) you mistakenly using the wrong tool might have been a godsend!!!
can you provide us with a logcat and a whole onslaught of information about what software you used and what versions they are.
Further more, i dont know if you do this but i tend to use super tool packages as a workaround from having to download the sdk and all that since the tools are included in there. if so could you send me a list of the files you added to the folders and what they are??
Thank you so much in advance
nice!
if this is all true, then please share, this will help a lot of people, has anyone else been able to do this?
and maybe i'm being dumb, but is the at&t version very different?

[Q] help rooting 3.20.502.52 build 2.3.5

I plan on rooting a friends Inspire 4g and I was wondering which method should I use to root the phone? I understand there are 2 different ways. Yes, you would need to do it that way for S-Off. You could also unlock the boot loader with HTCDEV only, but you will be S-On and get fewer options that way.

So if I just root and have S-OFF without having an unlocked bootloader, I can flash any ROM of my choosing? That seems like it's the best way to go or the easiest at least. Could you give me or mind PM'ing me the AAHK that you used Jrhodes?

I used the link glev gave me. On a side note I'm trying to understand radios and how to flash em...i haven't changed the radio yet but I'm using T-Mobile and I don't get signal..I'm probably just going to switch to at&t next month.

Yes. If http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=88 applies read it. If not just use AAHK from the same site. I don't know anything about how the GS3 is unlocked. The link in my signature (to the thread in the DHD forums, which is the international variant of the same phone) will help.
Google play store has this one app for an easy root Samsung ordeal, I've seen it and was going to try and use it when I was thinking about getting a Samsung galaxy S
