Hi all , as the title says is there any way to port gingerbread to i9003?
What are all the changes that have to be done in the gingerbread rom to make it work with i9003?
Can we take the drivers for i9000 from its original firmware and merge it with gingerbread.
I know if we flash the wrong firmware it wont go past the samsung logo. But what is making it to stop there??
1.Hardware Drivers?.
2.Phone model conflict.?
Post your ideas and opinions.....
I don't think it would be possible, not without ALOT of work anyway. I think I remember 'curio tweeting about it having completely different hardware, although I could well be wrong...
Curio only said that the audio hadware is different. Why cant we remove the drivers of i9000 from that gingerbread rom and replace it with i9003 drivers. May be it is easy to say but hard to achieve, i want to take some initial steps towards it...
Any guidance from developers will be helpful
We need some experienced developers to start this or else wait for official version from samsung.

not just that. you guys have a different cpu/gpu too.
Ya the CPU/GPU/CHIPSET/AUDIO are different, but we have all the required drivers and files in the i9003 original rom file. WHy cant we replace those in the gingerbread rom. I may be wrong , but its not at all impossible.
You make it sound so easy. You can't just replace the drivers with i9003 ones without editing the software to be compatible with the new drivers. Just wait for gingerbread
Galaxy S - no point in writing rom or kernel constantly changing!
The linux kernel in Gingerbread is different. That's why drivers from old kernel can be incompatible. Also we don't have sources to compile new drivers.

None of the developers are interested in this phone. In spite of consistent requests we have not been provided a separate section at XDA. Either Admin does not like this phone or they are waiting for some developer to take initiative. Even the cheapest phone has a development thread within a short period of its release. May be its a fate of I9003 users.
I think that all because the phone is available in specific countriea bot widly spread

Been said before buy the devs a few phones they cannot work on something they have not got .They do not get paid to work on giving you a nice rom .
So please donate at least one I9003 .
jje
I heard that we have to donate a mobile of the same model to xda so that the developers will start their work. is that true?
What do you do when you come home from work ??
Go out and buy a phone you dont want and start development work on it for no money as a hobby ??? . To give away to unknown persons .
Devs are people that work on stuff for free its a hobby not a job .
Personally if i was able to do all that development stuff i would be looking at the SGS 2 now .

May be what you are saying is right, but what is stopping XDA admin to provide us a separate section for I9003? Atleast we will have some hope seeing our own section... How can ppl reach a developer at a forum where we do not even know who is a developer here? Why will somebody even show interest in the development of the device which is not listed??? that can be another reason. Its need to be popular for someone to be attracted. When I want to read posts related to my device here, I have search through 100s of I9000 posts, I have to search my own post in the forum, it goes untraceable. What do you think about this? do you think we need to donate the phone to XDA moderators too to create a section?
@JJE, do you mind telling us which phone do you own?
@trip
If I remember correctly jje has a SGS.
He is one of the most helpful people around. I have read his posts in different phone's sections and found them to be helpful and motivating.
Even here his suggestion is practical.
All those wonderful people who develop for SGS (darky, curio, etc) own that device. We need to have developers from within our own group only first. Others could chip in and help us.
Ok then lets donate a phone to darky or some reputed developer and ask to help us. But my point is we need separate section for the phone for all the developments posts and attract other developers. Its easy for some ppl to donate when they gain some thing in return, I mean to continue the development support.

Contacted a moderator via mail. For getting a separate section for our mobile he says we have to keep on requesting in the "Android General" forum. Once there is 1000+ requests, they will decide about a new sub forum.
@bala, lets do it then.

Post daily in that request thread & all i9003 users add that thread link in your signature that way all new users will get to see that thread & will post request to cross 1000s post mark soon. Next 10-15 days we should have it done.
What do you say?

um, that site is basically a xda-dev ripoff... it would not be cool to post roms, just links to xda posts...
what's wrong with this site that you would try to duplicate it?
i kno its a copy i wrote it in an announcement, the reason i started it was because xda wont start forums for non htc products and since so many new companys are gonna join the ppc market then theyll need a place to talk and the reason that i dont want to paste links for the roms here is i dont kno the ins and outs or the time to update the amount there is. beside its another mirror for them to upload to
You do realize that by looking in peoples signatures, they will sometimes have links to 4share files, which usually contain quite a few different roms. I have collected quite a few in this fashion, should XDA become unavailable for whatever reason. May I suggest this method in your quest for roms?
P.S. This thread gives me weird vibes. I have yet to see a mod put their $.02 in here...
I am also amazed that a mod hasn't closed this down yet.
It is going to be very difficult to convince a chef, myself included, to post our ROMs on multiple Windows Mobile forums. That comment is not directed towards your site in any way. It would just be too complicated having to manage ROM releases on more then one site.
Other chef's may feel different, and that it 100% OK. However, I suggest communicating with them by PM. I myself have been contacted by PM regarding setting up shop over at PPCGeeks in their new GSM section. I politely declined for the reason already stated.
How about linking to these threads?
If I started a new board for the reasons you suggested (which are valid I think), I would simply have a ROM section that linked here. That way the chefs only have to look to one thread to offer support.
ive already spoken to mods and they sed they were all right with another site as its already got links to here anyway like people who dont want there stuff mirrored
i like the idea of a rom section that links to this site thoughgood idea
and i also understand treofans point about not being able to update more thn one site.
and note i have spoken to mods about mysight and explained its mainly for non htc devices to come to as they can only get so much support on xda
maybe if you make it noob friendlish some will leave here and join your page, lol. But yeah, the success is going to depend on which of the chefs will go there. Coz you'll need them exclusively there to bounce ideas off of members. Otherwise, it's just gonna be link to here.
Hello all g2x developers, me and other users have joined a new community while still maintaining this one. it is http://androidbible.info/home/content.php i am the maintainer and moderator of the g2x section and was told to ask for as many devs from the g2x section as wanted to join and post their roms their to. by doing it there you will have unlimited hosting for direct downloads for your roms. Plus we have integrated a live chatroom FACEBOOK style at the bottom, with this you can add friends and play games all on the forum. If you took the time to read this thank you and please think about posting there aswell.
Is it possible to see this site without signing up I couldn't on my phone will try when I get home.

XDA is already the place dor devs to make roms and discussions. I don't need another site is needed. Sorry.
You need to make a change. I have never seen a forum that made you sigh up before you can even get to any content. I don't know if I want to join or not without knowing the kind of content there in.

Having to sign up/register before access sucks.
I help A LOT of people here on xda all day everyday some donate some don't. its very hard to help people on xda cus when helping them other people jump in and start either telling the person im helping don't do that do this or they just plain old spam. i have helped a very large amount of people on g talk and they have told me they like to be helped MORE on g talk than on xda because we have 100% full privacy to do what we need to do. please choose how you like to be helped Either xda or PM or g talk. at the end of the week ill count all of them up and from the results i will help people based on the results on this thanks very much.
To put the poll into better context I believe that you should also read this thread Although I've quoted the relevant posts below:

Hello, Paul,
Firstly, thanks (again) for your input into the forum. I'm genuinely not intending to create conflict here or trying to play the role of a mod. Now, I know that you've had this sort of comment before, but, I agreed with it then and I'm afraid that I still do.
While at times the PM route can be useful to resolve issues, it shouldn't be the only or primary option. The whole principle of XDA is openness and sharing, so resolving an issue in thread permits that the next user(s) (and there is always another, who suffers from the exact same problem) from hopefully using the Search function and then following the resolution from the thread by themselves.
That way we're working towards creating a valuable resource rather than loosing useful input into hidden PMs.
PM's do have there place for 'user to user' communication, that would otherwise populate the forum unnecessarily but once a thread has been created I believe that it should be used to reolve the original issue.
If a new user needs that much hand holding then one wonders whether they should be risking their £200-£400 device in the first place! before reading up some more....

me helping people over PM is better because its faster and more safer for the person im helping. if im trying to guide him then other people jump in and comment he isnt going to know who to listen to and he will get very confused. this has happend before. by helping over PM or my gmail is better for them, and me. and i ALWAYS ask them after to write a guide as to how i helped them and what they did. i at NO point mean to upset anyone. but you have got to understand that this is the only way that i can help these people as you may well know here on xda people have got there opinions and they like to jump in whenever they want. if i tell him to do somthing some1 might jump in and say no or do this and do that. i have had EVERYONE i have helped say thanks to me and its better this way. i have helped MANY people achieve proper s-off. i will no open a poll. and it will ask the people of xda if they would prefer to be helped via PM or Gtalk or on here. if more people prefer xda then i will start helping via xda

As someone whom Paul has helped through gtalk, It was very beneficial to me as we were able to quickly and easily communicate, as any other method is rather slow and crude. I definitely do agree with your point on xda being a repository for information however, therefore communicating through gtalk or similar could withhold information from other users. However I have now written up a short guide of what I did to solve my problem on the original thread, and I believe that if people do this then everyone wins tbh, and it has the added advantage of the treads being shorter and more concise, therefore it is easier to find the relevant information.
As someone who has done all his stiff by reading through threads and others opinions, I will always advocate all discussions on XDA

On the 16th the poll will close and whatever the winning method is thats the way i will help people from now on. i do wish ALL people will take something out of the way i help them. as me getting them properly s-off uses alot of things like commands running adb , fastboot and so on. by helping them do these things it then in turn helps them. as if i didnt help them and they needed to to adb or fastboot commands and they never knew howto that could result in a not needed thread being opened **How to use adb or fastboot** this is a good way for me to help these people. i think people should help people the way they do and let other people carry on with the ways they do things. ( no offence meant ben your opinion means alot to me your a good person ) but if it states in the rules ( only help people on xda ) then i will stop if it dont then i will carry on as im not doing anything wrong. and even so if you guys think your losing out on infomation. i will open up a guide covering absolutly EVERYTHING on the desire s from fastboot adb changing roms, splash, radio, hboot and covering everything on what the desire s is capable of doing. what limits it has and other things. this in a sense will be the desire s XDA user guide let me know if u think thats a good isea ben. and as i go along anything i help people out with thats not in the new guide ill just update it ????????????

I do but there are already several threads like this, so one must be careful not to pollute the forum with too many similar guides which would just lead to further confusion.

yes ur right mine would cover EVERYTHING that is possible with our device. from s-off to installing app's and even radio flashing fastboot adb the lot. EVERYTHING will be in sections. with sections about all developers themers contributors. what projects that are currently under development and it can also act like a news forum. like if you want to know whats happening in the most recent roms go to this thread and find your rom and you will be able to keep upto date with whats going on. this will be called DESIRE S ADVANCED USER THREAD. this will house everything for our device. from what roms are currently avalible and everything. im going to start this thread now i think this thread when its done will be the best thread about our device on xda

In no way was i able to find out why i was having these errors if he weren't there to check them as it was happening. To go through this in forum style replys would take days and to much work. Gtalk is a brilliant and direct help for occasions like these and would recommend his help and wisdom to all. Thanks again mate Much appreciated

I understand, but what was going on there wasn't development. We just want the temperature to cool down a bit before things are said which cannot be unsaid and all kernel development opportunities are lost. Emotions are running very high right now, understandably so, but I would like everyone to think carefully before hitting the "submit reply" button. hillbeast may post in the next several hours that he has the phone and everything is fine, and I would prefer that everything be able to continue as it was before.
Thank you,

Forgive me for this but why is his alibies always backed up by a mod? Help me out while I'm trying to see this whole batman and robin/bonnie and clyde scene here. I don't remember reports being called in for that thread and if anything the blame is on who lost the phone. If anything we're just being patient and understanding but patience has it's limit when the bark doesn't match the bite.
I am not trying to back up anything, I am just asking for civility between everyone.
At this point, I think it is better to just ask for the device back after hillbeast finds it and stop all of the verbal assault. With the attitude of the senior members toward hillbeast and even team utterchaos, It will be a lot harder to attract developers to our community.
Forget attract, try the word "keep"
@Mf2112 didn't mean it to you. Just find it weird wardfan is always around when he screws up. Hence the word mod and not mods
^^ True Misledz ... with the kind of developers we're attracting, and kind of support these non-performing assets are accumulating, eventually we will not be able to keep our current devs/themers/modders (very few) in the flock.
Already we've seen most of our original devs and themers getting new devices because of this indifference(by name worshipers) to their performance so far.
I'm proud of Dhiru who still has worked wonders on this device, without any notable support from these so-called famous developers.
obviously we are done on this project thats because of mods that defending on hillbeast all the time and now see what happened ,,, the device lost without any noticable development ,,,
i think we should planning with our next phone after i9003

I'm not backing anyone up. The thread got out of control and I got sick of dealing with reports from that one thread all day. This is true that we have more development but I don't really see why that would be a comparison.
It would be great if we had a separate forum but in the mod's and admins eyes, we are only an extension/upgrade of the i9000. I can't fathom how many times I have seen this kind of discussion in these forums and how many times the mod's just simply said "No." Well, they have made many changes recently to make sure spam stays minimal so it might be possible if we approach with the fact that having no separate forum creates an unbelievable amount of spam, which is actually pretty damn true.

Well, I think you're actually right. but it's justa pity that we don't have other forums. although it doesn't slow down the development at all! it's only increasing and increasin
But I must admit that asking a Q in the i9000 Q&A forum is just terrible. since it's so i9000 orientated.
But idd the mods just won't change it ever. period

If i9001 had a separate forum or had a dedicated section in the i8150 one we would eliminate lots of spam threads or "which ROM is better?" ones
Inviato dal mio frigo a pedali.
i don't think having a separated forum will have any use . we have 1 gb rom still active , 3 ics roms and maybe 3 or 4 jb roms . 4 kernels focused on jb , 1 on ics and 1 on jb . a separate forum for 14 topics ? the only use of a separate forum would be that modders and app devs like brood can get more organized , but brood implements everything he does into his rom forums and modders are getting fewer by the day . and our device is getting old .
probably , after the release of klp most people will move to another device and the forum will be dead . having in consideration that a phone's life is , by industry standard , 2 years ..well we're basically getting a separate forum for a few months afterwards we all would move onto a new device .
it has no use . i9001 has an amazing developing team for a niche device , but all this fuss is not worth it seeing that this is a close knitted , close to a thousand user community .

No, the day after never.
Inviato dal mio frigo a pedali.
the real problem is that i9001 is seen as an upgrade of i9000, but they are really different, i discovered only few weeks ago that our Q&A section is in the i9000 one.... and i think it is nonsense, why i have to go in i9000 Q&A to make a question for i9001? it is so confusing, people risk to brick their phones by misreading i9000-i9001 (some i9000 users answer i9001 questions thinking is the same thing.... but even button combination to get in recovery is different)
It could be better if we at least we have a new separate general section :fingers-crossed:
So that development section would be spared from unnecessary threads.
Let's ask the moderator about this

I9070 has a few ROMs / kernels but it has a separated forum !!!!! I'm agree with new forum
I also agree the idea, normal S is completely different phone than our plus.
Yep we need a separate forum.
+1
s and s plus are totally diferent... only have the same appearence
There are a lot of phones out there which have way less development than our great device and have their own forum anyway. I mean come on, our great dev community managed to port kernel 3.4 - and it's as good as bugless! We have a close to beta version of CM10.1, and there are coming up new devs all the time.
Furthermore, the thing with the Q&A thread in i9000 Q&A forum is confusing as hell. Our device has f*ing nothing to do with i9000! And this is also a reason why the dev section is being spammed all the time (I gotta admit that I also once spammed because I was so confused)
So I agree, PLEASE GIVE US OUR OWN FORUM!
I know I just said a lot of things that were mentioned earlier in this thread, but I just wanted to sum it all up.
AW: I guess for that we need an separate forum!
They think that our device is just an other version of the i9000 but the i9070 is just an other version of the i9100, too and the i9070 has his own forum.
And withe an own forum we won't have so many Q/A in development died or how its called
