New voicemail Notification - T-Mobile LG G2x

just recieved my phone today. Everything looks awesome except I cant get rid of the New Voicemail Notification on the status bar. It always says that there is a new voicemail and when I click and call to my voicemail, it says there is no voicemail. I did a factory reset and followed the quick set up on the first boot. I changed my voicemail service to my google voice and I also tried the T-mobile visual voice service and still cant get rid of the damn notification. I even called the tmo tech support and they couldnt figured it out. When I put my sim card back to my vibrant, it doesnt have the notification there. Any other suggestions?

I had this happen to me a long time ago...I think what I did was reset my voice mail back to t-mobile, then I called and left myself a voice mail...then called in to check my voice mails, and deleted the mail I just left, and the icon went away.
Not sure if it will work for you, but probably worth a try...

yes yes i did the samething

Thanks guys, it worked!

I figured this out this morning too. All i did was leave myself a voicemail and it cleared immediately.

Google Voice 2 Sprint VVM

So I am on 2.2 RC1 and I pushed the sprint core apk to my system/app folder. I was able to get it to work and setup my personal message. In the settings --> call settings I changed it from Google voice to my carrier. I also changed the number to my personal cell phone number. But for some reason when leaving a message it still goes to GV. I even uninstalled Google voice from my phone and left a message same thing. I restarted my phone several times and even clear data from settings, same thing. I also reinstalled the rom in its entirety and still no go. All messages go to GV I always used GV as my voicemail preference but want to give sprint vvm a try. My question to everyone is...
What am I doing wrong?
oops put this under themes not questions, sorry.
Did you have your voice mail set up to go to google voice before (ie *28xxx-xxx-xxxx)? If so, dial *38 on your phone.
login to google account and remove cell # from voice account. fyi,vvm works well by flashing vvm.zip...
Ok, calling *38 worked but my question is what did that do? It just made a noise and hung up on me. If I ever switch back to GV do I have to do the same thing? Thanks for your help I would have never figured it out.

Changing the voicemail settings in your phone back from google voice to my carrier only changes how your phone is setup. Dialing the *38 reroutes the actual voicemail back to your normal sprint mail box. When you dialed that long ass number to setup google voice the first time, *38 just undoes that.
I had the same problem when I went back to VVM last week.
I just installed Google Voice. I'd not called my own phone to go to voice mail before, so I don't know if this is AOSP or google voice, but when I call it rings forever, then it actually calls my phone again, then many rings later it goes to google voice.
All totaled a person has to wait like 18 rings to get to my voicemail. Did I set something up wrong? Is it just not working? Is there a setting somewhere to "retry" before going to voicemail?
Edit: Nevermind, I finally found the golden set of search terms that lead to an answer. In case anyone else needs help: Apparently the way it works is that no answer on your phone forwards to Google Voice. The default settings are basically "forward to my other phones" (Presumably if you miss a call on your cell it could ring your work phone, or whatever.) however it doesn't exclude the originating phone, essentially forwarding to itself. In the advanced settings of the phone there's a "Go straight to voicemail" option.

put the phone down and log into google voice on your computer.. you can enable and disable from there..
thank you for telling me about the google voice settings on my computer, I tried installing the apk, reinstalling the rom, reinstalling the zip,*38, etc.,. Nothing worked until I went to my google voice page and went to the settings menu and uninstalled it thank you, you've saved me alot of grief.

[Q] Voicemail notification will not clear. (Sprint) [SOLVED]

I just got my NS4G today and on boot it pops up a persistent voicemail notification. It can't be cleared.
I call voicemail and it directs to my google voice voicemail and says there are no new messages. I feel like there are 3 ancient voicemails left on sprint's side and they keep telling me that they're there.
My notification space is sacred. I need this thing gone.
Disabling google voice seems to have done the trick, voicemail notification gone.
Now I'm having trouble re-integrating my sprint number with google. I'm going to be upset, to say the least, if I get blocked from google voice integration.
EDIT: 20 minutes later, google voice is re-enabled and the voicemail notification is gone. Hopefully this thread will help somebody in the future.
has it stayed like that for you? i tried it then after i did a nandroid back up it came back....all 3 times

[Q] Persistent Voicemail icon in Notification...

Hello all Xda'ers,
First of all, I am deaf and I was put on a special data plan that is customized for the hard of hearing and deaf subscribers. When I first got my NS4G, I got that voicemail icon as soon as I walked out of Sprint store. I should have went back to talk to the rep but I was late for work.
With that said, since May 8th, I still have that icon and I have been looking for solutions to remove it. I have searched this site as well as other sites for any remedies but with no avail. I do have Google Voice and have had GV set to use my current phone number so the voicemail can be ported over then I disabled GV after 20 minutes and the voicemail icon is STILL THERE!!!
I even tried Youmail and my heart jumped when it said I had one voicemail message and I was like YES! but then it was the youmail voicemail, probably greeting and congratulating me for installing youmail on my phone, because I saw what the message was and deleted it, but nope, VM icon is still there...
I have read somewhere, where you power down the phone, take the battery out for 30 seconds then put it back and power back on and it should be gone. Well, I did that and even waited 5 minutes and as soon as my homescreen came up, bam! voicemail icon appears. I told my Sprint rep that I can't remove it and he said something that struck me as odd. He said the NS4G has a visual voicemail and I should be able to remove it with no problem. I searched everywhere on the phone and couldn't find it. He said he got the same phone, even bought it right after selling me and my wife the phones. I emailed back and haven't heard from him since so...
I really don't want to put a ROM on this phone, probably because I have been putting it off since but other than putting a ROM on my phone, is there a solution to finally get that VM icon off?
Oh, to add, I have had my hearing friend call my voicemail for me, but he said that the automated response was something like, "This is no longer in service, the number you are trying to dial does not exist" or something like that, but he was NOT able to access my voicemail at all.
Sorry if this has been resolved elsewhere, but I had searched everywhere on this forum as well as all over the Internet as you can tell, it took me since May 8th to finally give up and post this on Xda, but why? You all are awesome!
I'm having this problem too ever since we got my wife the mytouch 4g slide. The CSR told me that I needed a new sim card. We put it in my NS and there is the icon.
I'm currently trying to put it back on T-Mobile voicemail service and calling my line from my work cell. It went to my GVoice so far so I guess I need to leave it for longer.
Pyro,
Since you are on Sprint I may have a solution. I also have this happen once in a while. After spending much time on the phone with Sprint here is their solution. Go to a land line phone and call your cell. Let it go to voice mail, give it a couple of minutes. Now on your cell go to your voice mail. You should have the message you left yourself. Listen to it all the way through and only press "7" to delete the message after the system prompts you to. After deleting the message hang up. The voice mail notification should disappear. This is a known Sprint problem, according to Sprint. If this doesn't work, take your phone to a Sprint repair center.
Good luck.
I just re-read your post. If your problem is the same as mine, you may have to have a hearing friend do this. I am not sure what Sprint may have installed on your phone to make it more usable for you.

voicemail notification

Think I figured it out. My voicemail notification wasn't going away so I went to settings call clicked voicemail service made sure my network was checked then I clicked on clear voicemail notification and it went away.
I had this problem when I first got my device. I understand that this can happen with many Android devices under different circumstances. Best thing to do is use another phone, call your device, leave a voicemail, then clear it. The notification icon will unglitch. Seems you already fixed this though
Yeah I tried that a few times but didn't work. Don't know thanks tho. Just thought it may help someone.

I had that problem too but it didn't work when I called my voicemail through that phone. So I did leave a short voicemail but I access my voicemail from a different phone and deleted the message. After that the voicemail notification went away for me

Stuck Voicemail Notification

Hi all,
I have an issue where my voicemail icon remains in the notification bar, even though I do not have an actual voicemail. I've gone through the ring around with sprint and have tried:
- Clearing Data in the Phone app - this resolves the issue until a reboot
- Sprint saw a message in my VM inbox which they cleared. Immediately the notification went away. After a reboot, it came back
- Sprint re-provisioned my VM. Immediately the notification went away. After a reboot, it came back
- I requested my VM mailbox to be deleted. Immediately the notification went away. After a reboot, it came back
I'm at a loss... has anyone encountered this? Sprint claims this is a known issue with the S8.
I have an unlocked version on Sprint. At this point, I do not have a Sprint Voicemail box, and am using integrated Google Voice.
Thanks!

I have the same problem on an unlocked S8 with Sprint. I have reprovisioned the phone, but it has no visual vm app, so I am using youmail, which is pretty cool and free.
It doesn't come back unless I reboot or refresh the network.
The one solution I have not tried is leaving myself a vm, or not taking a call, and then clearing that vm, which purportedly worked with older phones and android versions. My S5 would often restore a vm notification after a reboot.
I can confirm that once you get a vm, and delete it through the vm phone routine, the notification goes away, permanently. At least for me it did.
If this works for somebody, i used it in Mexico with Telcel as carrier and a Galaxy S8. I had canceled the option of voice messages with the carrier, but i ALWAYS had the icon showing as if i had a voice message, dealed with that for months just closing it from settings/apps/Phone, then after months with that bugging me. I decided to contact the carrier, they said they couldn't do anything cause i cancelled the service, then i asked.. ok then please activate it again which they did, i registered my name, welcome message as if i was gonna use it... and then the icon dissapeared!!.. i immediatly contacted them to cancel the service again and voilá! the icon finally has gone.
This was finally a permanent solution, hope this can he helpful,
After the Oreo update, force stopping the phone app no longer clears the VM notification. Annoying as hell.
