Since it is official that the Note 10.1 will be available tomorrow I thought I would pose the question since I am having trouble making the decision. Note taking on the tab is important to me, probably in my top 4 needs. I have not had much success with my stylus choice,as of yet, for SuperNote on the infinity or the prime when I owned it. My finger has been the best pen. Question is, does anyone recommend a stylus that makes note taking extra smooth on the infinity with Supernote as it would compare to the 10.1 or samsung note experience? Thoughts?
Dagi Stylus (p603 for example) is very accurate:
http://youtu.be/nP5dRXlEBSc?hd=1&t=29s
For note taking, I would recommend just using the dock for the infinity. I am sure the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be very good for handwritten notes. However, I had some issues with the Galaxy Note phone in terms of calibration of the pen and some lag. Maybe this will be fixed on the 10.1 tablet.
I'd think the Wacom digitizer on the Note 10.1 (rather than the stylus alone) would give you a better note taking experience on the Samsung Note 10.1 than the Transformer Infinity.
If you must have handwritten notes, the Note 10.1 is the way to go. If you can type, try to go for an Infinity (or even TF300) with the keyboard dock.
My Decision
I posted this in another thread but felt the need to post here as well since I started this thread. Thank you all for your input
I have struggled with this decision since I traded my 201 for the infinity. I knew that the 10.1 would come out during my 30 day exchange so was not too concerned. I want and need to take notes on my pad but also use it for entertainment. The soft sided stylus just does not cut it, although I think supernote is a real good program. My best stylus was my finger. I asked for recommendations in another post and am happy to report that the adonit jot pro is a winner with my infinity.
I believe that the infinity is hands down a better product than the samsung ( I do have a minor drop out issue with wifi that I still have not isolated but believe I can fix with some tweeks to my home network, being it is the only place I have minor issue) . The jot pro works perfect. Had to get rid of the zagg screen protector and am looking for a suitable replacement ( anyone have any ideas) because the the zagg is too sticky. With the jot and supernote it exceeds all of my needs.
Main Deciding factors:
Jot and supernote sufficiently re-create s pen experience.
FULL HD on Infinity
ASUS commitment to upgrade Operating System
Option of using TF keyboard
HD out on Infinity
I believe true multi tasking in Android is less than six months away for all so that feature is short lived for Samsung
Tired of changing tabs.
Had the note included resolution to match the newer tablets then I'd have considered it even with a hundred dollar increase. When I get a chance to play with it then maybe I will change my mind.
I say stick with the infinity just because Asus updates their devices way more often than Samsung. The galaxy S II didn't get ICS until relatively recently for example. Absurd given the Galaxy S II was their flagship device a mere 6 months ago.

Honestly, there are several hands on and deep impressions out there. Doesn't sound very impressive. Part of me was considering exchanging the tf700 for it, not anymore.
its a hard question because the tegra 3 turned out to not be as good as everyone expected it to be, the quad exynos sounds amazing however. but after the .26 update fixed i/o the infinity is very fast and the browsing is much better than the prime, but in my experience samsung has an excellent browser performance. you should go check the note out in a store if you are seriously considering getting the note. i personally think the infinity is a much better tablet because of the screen, the faster updates, the metal build quality, and the dock. the note is still a very good tablet though
I would have definitely got the note if it wasn't for the resolution. Those processors are beast.

I sent my TF700 back last week and will be picking up a Note today. I'll let you know what I find in comparison.

Reviews are not very good so far. Verge hammered it. Ah well, every device has it's fans on xda I hope you guys who grab one enjoy it.
Note build quality is good. Thin and light. Screen decent. Feels much more responsive than the TF700.
Display not as nice as the Asus but I will take the better performance over the screen. Pen is nice but not sure how useful it will be . I like the dual front facing speakers. Quite loud.
Ran a couple of benchmarks .... for comparison sakes only.

I too debated between the two tablets. I had the HTC Jetstream, which also had an active stylus, and the Galaxy Note phone. In the end, I found that handwritten notes were not as efficient as using a keyboard. Also, handwriting recognition apps are just too frustrating. I am sold on the Transformer series with the dock. I really like having the tablet propped up in the traditional laptop fashion. I do like that the Note tablet has 2 GB of RAM, which I wish the Inifinity had. I have 2 GB of RAM on my Galaxy S3 phone and I find that I don't worry about killing apps in the background. I am sure 1 GB is fine though.
Regarding a screen protector, I got the clear Acase protector from Amazon. It went on very easily and I don't even notice it. Also, it works just fine with the dock, so I definitely recommend it.

I was debating between the two tabs too...I've decided on neither.
Like the previous Asais tabs, Infinity still has built quality issues, flash memory speed hasn't increased and the battery capacity is the same as prime...silly to increase the resolution and cpu speed....but not the battery capacity.
On Note, going by the reviews, it does not look like a premium product, not for $500+ at least. Even though the benchmarks are high it still has lag.
I'll wait for the next android tablet, otherwise it's onto MS Surface.

Wow benchmark dont seem that far away...with antutu i get like 12400
seems like the review benchmarks over exaggerated?
I read that the infinity antutu score was close with the Note in some other reviews but that was the only one of 7 or 8 in which the TF700 was close. I don't recall now what I was getting on Quadrant with Asus but I think it was much lower. At any rate, the Note has no lag at all. Peppy even.

I think those marks reflect my experience in usage. Not comparable to the infinity as the Note is in a whole other league. I honestly feel the Tegra does not match the hype.

Can a few note 10.1 owners comment on direct sunlight usability? Perhaps include a few pics or video? Many thanks.

No problem, the screen is good enough to play with the tablet in sunlight.

I use mine in bright, direct sunlight all the time.
I was actually surprised at how bright the screen can get. Its pretty impressive. Close to (if not on par with) the SuperIPS+ mode display on the Prime/Infinity.

Hi, i just bought the Galaxy note 10.1 a few days ago, and when i first started using it, my eyes were hurting and it got to the point when they were throbbing. my question is, has anyone else had this problem? i have a feeling this is because the resolution is not very good on the Note 10.1.
On another note, i decided to go with this over the Transformer Infinity because i read it had problems freezing up, is this true also? what have your experiences been with the Transformer Infinity? have you had any of these problems before?
Thanks,
Ryan

Mine hurt if I have the brightness up. Since I've started setting the brightness at about 25%, it's been fine. It took very little time to get used to that and, except in very bright conditions, I find it's plenty.
Screen Hurting Eyes
You probably have bifocal vision . I have bifocal vison and can't use High-def screen . I bought and returned xperia z just for that , but this 1280 x 800 works great for me . Another thing you have to keep in mind is that You have to try and adjust screen brightness to be the same as your surroundings , because when you keep looking at screen and up and away from screen your eyes have to adjust to difference . The less difference the less work for the eyes and less strain at them . That's why the pirates have eyepatch . When they go from bright sun on upper deck down below deck they just switch eyepatch to another eye and they see perfect below in the dark . ( Maybe You should try that lol )

im 21 i dont have bifocal vision, the screen resolution is crap on it, although im uses to using HD Screens.
and i own a macbook pro that i use daily, so that might be the reason why i think the resolution is to low
I too had tired eyes after using any lcd device for a long time.
Some thoughts from me
- reduce brightness of the screen to bare minimum
- install anti glare screen protector. It reduces the reflections from the glass and allows you to reduce brightness further.
- install screen filter... it allows u to reduce brightness below system minimum. Good for night viewing.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor
- take a break every 10 mins when using the tablet. Always use tv for watching movies... i have allshare cast dongle that i use for this purpose for videos i play from my tablet.
- if u read a lot of books/articles, invest in paperink readers. Very cheap these days.
- one big issue with tablets is that focal length that your eyes focus on, is almost constant. Not good. Try and follow wall ceiling lines every 20mins of tablet usage... it helps eye muscles focus on different focal lenghts and reduces fatigue.
- reduce time on tablet unless it's a job function for you.
- galaxy s3 has super amoled screens which are much easier on eyes.
- last and most imp one. Get you eyes checked.

That`s a real funny one....come on it`s still HD 720P
So growing up u didn`t watch a lot of TV......768x576
I had the same issue. I made a couple adjustments and it became much better.
First change the screen color from dynamic/standard to movie. Might take a little while to get used too. Then change the font on your device to something you feel comfortable reading.
http:// http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958316
Lastly I use an app called lux to adjust the brightness as well as change the warmth of the screen during the night. Helps a lot.
The screen fonts are only hard to read if they are too small. Just increase them to an appropriate size and they are fine.
Regarding the screen resolution. Have you noticed that only the Surface Pro ($1000) offers a digitizer pen with a fullHD screen? There is a reason for that. Those offer full i-series CPU's, not a tablet CPU as you have in your Note 10.1. To run a digitizer pen lagfree on a fullHD screen you need a better CPU and be prepared too PAY for it.
When you bought the Note 10.1 you made a choice - pen functionality vs fullHD. At $500 you can't have both.
I have problems with my eyes since i started using the note 10 plus 5G
I'm a note series user ,i was searching if anyone complained of that
I tried to stop the 5 g but still the same
I went to check my eyes and nothing wrong .
Ill try to go back to my previous note
Wrong forum for your model .
I watched a few reviews of the Nexus 5 and in the most part the screen appears a little washed out, with very low contrast.
Is the screen really that bad? I don't expect it to be the best in the market for 350 bucks, but neither do I want to have a device that looks like somebody glued a thin piece of paper on top of the display.

the display is, for the respect of colour accuracy aso. far better than the nexus4s/ but the led strip are shining through the edges i you're looking from the sides.. not a major problem but it's there - anyway not a bad screen at all

Honestly, the screen is pretty bad. It's the thing I hate most about my N5. Like you said, low contrast and fairly washed out colors. The black levels are downright terrible, and it's also got some viewing angle problems. It's passable, but that's about the closest thing to a compliment I can say about it. Unfortunately, the crappy screen belies the overall quality of the phone. It's a great device, LG just cut the wrong corners.
I don't have a problem with the screen. Nothing about it seems worse than my old Rezound.

"It’s interesting to hear some Nexus 5 users complain that the display seems undersaturated, since that kind of end user feedback reflects subjective comparison. It also suggests to me that a large percentage of the population doesn’t know what some colors or system elements actually should be. Even for me, looking at the green elements inside the Google Play store on the Note 3 in movie mode or Nexus 5 initially seemed slightly more muted than normal. The reality is that this is what they actually should look like. We’ve just become accustomed to their oversaturated appearance on virtually every other device.
This kind of expectation about what looks right and what doesn’t is rather telling for the state of display calibration in Android handsets, and how OEMs have used oversaturated colors to increase retail shelf appeal. Unfortunately the reality is that oversaturated colors do seem to win taste tests among shoppers, the same way that TVs in most big boxes do. We’ve been looking at them for so long that well calibrated displays like Nexus 5 initially do look noticeably different.
The end result is easy to sum up, however – Nexus 5 has the best calibrated display I’ve seen so far in any Android handset. It’s also leaps and bounds more accurate and controlled than its predecessor display in the Nexus 4." - Anandtech Review

I think the N5 has one of the best screens I've used on a phone so far. People that say it's dull and washed-out are probably those who prefer the blown out colors of AMOLED screens.
Coming from an sgs2 with amoled screen I love the truer colors and clarity of this screen!
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I got my nexus 5 and was worried about the screen, but no issues. No dead pixels, the screen only slightly washes out when viewed at an angle (meaning only people nitpicky people would be annoyed by it. I personally think the screen is still easy to view, and read from even an extreme angle. But I have seen videos of others with nexus 5's that looked unbearable, so I'm sure the issue exists. Maybe I just got lucky and different screen hardware.
I dont really notice washed out colors in general, but the color temps are definitely different than my iPhone 5, which to me felt a bit too bright/blue compared to my nexus, easier on the eyes.

Nexus 5 screen is one of top pick on the market for those who said the color or contact washout are getting poisoned by Samsung devices what you see on nexus 5 screen is more natural and real color. If people complain the nexus 5 screen are easy to break I will agree but not the color.

So absolutely worth it not just for the phone but for the Dev support that is backing it, my wife and I as well as a friend of mine all switched to the Nexus 5 and have not looked back!! you will not be disappointed!
And if you make the switch check out my ROM HERE
I switched from note 3 and previously had a note 2. Dev work is nice but you will miss battery and screen big time. After 2 weeks of using the phone you get accustomed to the screen size but battery life is not anything close to a note 2

I came from a Note 2 and definitely recommend the Nexus 5.
Screen:
The smaller screen takes some getting used to, everything seemed small at first but now I prefer the Nexus screen. The Nexus screen is crisper, brighter and more accurate color wise, no inkly OLED blacks though. The auto brightness on the Note 2 was too conservative and washed out in direct sunlight. The Nexus auto-brightness has a better range.
Battery:
About 20% shorter on the Nexus compared to the Note. I still easily last the full day with solid use, wifi, gps, bluetooth enabled. Wireless charging is very convenient
S-Pen:
I never used the S-pen much so I don't miss it. Although the S-pen was technically impressive, it was always held back by poor software implementation.
Speaker:
Lacking on the Nexus. The 4.4.2 update helped but I miss the Note 2's ear shattering speaker
Speed:
Holy crap, the Nexus is smooth like butter compared to the Note. The Note 2 was no lightweight but the Nexus is a quantum leap forward in speed.
OS:
Kit Kat doesn't take long to get used to. Better multitasking, no Samsung bloatware, fast updates. Nexus can't be beat. Google now is surprisingly awesome.
Misc:
Bluetooth and Wifi connect faster. The Nexus will feel incredibly light compared to the Note 2. Gorilla Glass 3 has higher scratch resistance than the Notes Gorilla Glass 2. Soft touch finish feels luxurious compared to the Note's slippery scratch prone poly-carbonate.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! Much appreciated
