I dont see any improvement in either battery life or reliability of my data connection nor is 4g/3G/1x/noG hand off any better. Try just using stock. I used stock everything was a ton better then flashed das bamf and everything seemed to get worse. Just an idea.

Come on. How is it that others are seeing improvements, and that you are not is HTC's fault?
That, and its the FIRST LTE device. Early adopters get to deal with growing pains. Blame HTC all you want, but its no different than buying a 1st gen car.

I am experiencing a completely different situation, I'm just outside of downtown LA and travel to the valley fairly often. My battery life was good to begin with and since flashing the new radio, whilst staying on stock ROM, it has just gotten better.
Currently running on 25% battery, been off the charger for 23 hours with moderate usage.
If you wanna replicate what I have, feel free....

well you are using all these battery saver stuff like juice defender which i refuse to use because i dont want my data connection to die after 5 mins of the screen being off. i may try another battery sipper kernel or something. the stock battery would never last me the whole day and even with the extended battery i see it go down about 8% an hour
Can't say anything really changed for me. I've been getting good battery life since I got my phone. With the new RUU, it's still the same.
I'm still only on 3g btw, no 4g in Sacramento yet.

The TB snaps right on to 4G when I come out of screen lock. No issues here.
Definitely has to be something you're doing, cause the overwhelming consensus is that the battery life us improved.

I too am getting very good battery life with the new leak. my battery is currently at 52% and its been unplugged for 10 hours. I leave LTE always on. Ive been using it with moderate usage. Could it be a defective battery? Or maybe a poorly coded app thats draining the battery in the background?
Using Tesla Coil 1.7 here and it works great. I never get reliable service at my house, dont know why even though it is blanketed with 4g according to verizon. I do get better coverage then I did with older radio.
I unplugged my phone at 10 in the morning and eleven hours later I am at 45%. Well at my house I drop out of 4g alot and thats when I loose battery when it keeps cycling between 4g and 3g, but outside and work, school, driving around I get great 4g, I do get decent 4g at home but not nearly as good as I get outside.
When I left home I was already at 85% battery so sitting for 40 mins after I woke up the phone went down 15% it is because if I forget to turn on wifi the phone will keep switching radios if I put it somewhere in my room where I get bad signal, lol.
I was at work for 9 hours and came back I still had 60% battery and I used it for moderately as well and 4g was on the whole time. and used it after I got home. Right now I have it sitting next to me with wifi enabled and the battery hasn't gone down even 1% in the last 15 mins. Plus I am overclocke to 1228mhz on the cpu.

I am kinda new to HTC and such but my advice for you is try to get a new phone from Verizon. There is a way to change back to stock ROM. On a side note, half your Max CPU speed and put it on conservative. That aught to save some juice with very very small compromise to your daily routine performance.

I think my battery life is probably about the same as it was before. Not really sure. But I did manage to get through a whole day at work while playing podcasts through google listen all day.
I've seen a considerable increase in battery usage since the update... Here are my stats... Juice Defender is running but I DO NOT HAVE IT KILLING DATA when the screen is off. I like my data and I didn't buy the phone just to neuter it.
I live in a solid 4G spread and I don't use WiFi... My 4G is way faster than my cable hook up.
I am running the stock leaked RUU. I Only DeBloated it.
These are perfectly acceptable to me for a device of this caliber. This was an average day in the life of my TB.

Damn HTC? Why don't they listen to your advice? Why?
I noticed yesterday evening my phone was dropping 4G constantly, usually it's spot on, maybe Verizon was tweaking the towers in Socal? Just an idea, it's fine for me today though.

The data connection being always on is what's killing the battery.
With all the battery tweaking Ive done, Ive determined that having the mobile data always on is the quickest way to drain your battery. At first I unchecked "always on mobile data" and that saved a bit of battery. Im using JD now, and saving even more.
I understand if you depend on Push notifications, this isnt a solution, but for me, nothing is so important that I need to get the notification right away. With data off, you get Calls and SMS when they come through and that's what really matters.
When you power the screen on, the data connection establishes and stuff comes through. What's nice with JD is you can have it turn on data periodically to let push updates come through.

okay is this the stock battery or extended? what other settings on juice defender are u using then if it is not killing data which i thought was the biggest thing it does? those hours are insane.. i cant believe you are getting such great battery life without turning off your data.
BTW i know many people thing some rouge app or something is killing my battery but i looked at both my battery stats and spare parts and see nothing of the sorts. in addition i have had the same apps on my fascinate and OG droid and that was never issue on the phone.
just an update for the day i have used my phone for a few emails, listening to 15 mins of music via wired headphones and a 5min phone call ALL using the extended battery. my phone has been unplugged for 2hr40min and is at 88%

One would think by now, that after HTC put out the evo and other large screen devices they would have better batteries. Also not to mention the thunderbolts delayed release. No we waste more on extended batteries, and have no cases to protect the dam thing. I've tried all the tips out there for tweaking the battery to get max use and it still sucks. I'm still in my 14 day trail period and I'm thinking of bringing it back. I'm just pIssed companies have the nerve to do this BS!
Well take it back then. Try a blackberry out. Oh yeah those things have even worse batteries and the bis always fails.

First off I get plenty fine battery for a phone as fast as this with LTE. The large, bright screen is just a bonus. If you are getting bad battery you have yourself to blame if you would read these forums as almost everyone here is getting great battery life.
Also, your battery size complaint is terrible, the droid X has almost the same battery and runs fine as well. The LTE right now is the killer, verizon has admitted it so either switch to 4g or 3g only and stop flooding the boards with this crap.
I make it through the day no problem, and with LTE on. First few days were terrible, but things seem to have improved drastically since then.
Take it back. Threads like this show that it's not for everyone.
Example - I have a car dock, I commute, I work on a comp. all day, easy enough to charge at home. I've never had this battery life issue everyone is talking about.

I have read WAY more posts about good battery life than I have bad. Where have you been? Yes, there are occasional posts about it but the vast majority after a little bit of tinkering have said good battery life.
My personal experience.
Took my phone off the charger at 96%. Used the GPS on a hour drive, sending texts and listening to music the whole way. Ate some dinner while continuing to send texts. Went to a hockey game and took ~30 Pics. Used the GPS to get back home with music and finally put the phone back on the charger. Time off charger 7 hours. Battery percentage 82%. Only 14% decrease with what I would say is some pretty moderate use.
One thing I actually thought was funny is I pulled out an old Sammy flip phone to see what size battery it had. 1100 mah. 5 years ago they were shipping dumbphones with 1100 mah batteries. Come to present day, a phone with 4G, a 1 ghz processor, and a ginormous lcd screen has a bump of 300 mah. Is something wrong with that?

I don't want to sound like a jackass, but I bought a 4G phone, not a 4G phone I need to use in 3G so I can make it through the day. In the end I just bought the extended battery. Solved all my woes.

If I can figure out how to go 22 hours with 43% remaining on my phone with moderate to heavy use, than sure as hell you should be able to get at least 12-15 hours out of the phone, not knowing half of what I know.
cause that is all that matters right, making it through the day for how long your awake, so for most people 12-15 hours, then you are home and can plug it in.
who cares if you make it home and plug it in at 5%, it still lasted you all day.
I've done the 5 tips for better life, and thou it has a improved.... its a minor improvement. the phone is with out a doubt sweet, im just pissed bc i cant get a full day out of it. i work for 8 hours and leave the friggin thing in airplane mode, then on my way home i listen to music with it still in airplane mode subway kills it mad quick....i do and dont wanna bring it back i want the newest thing out, im coming from a OG moto droid.. 50-60 bucks for a goddamn battery that makes your phone last longer and turns it into a potential weapon...data/voice together is the only feature right now that is making it hard for me to decide if i should bring it back or not.. i got it this past Saturday i have 8 more days to decide, not to mention vzw wants the 35 dollar restock fee now. who remembers when they had the 30 day test run??? lmao they stop doing it because people kept bringing phones back within the period...
my phone definitely lasts me the day, but i don't think it would last the 10 to 15 hours that others are reporting. i already turned the brightness down to about 25 - 30 percent, turned off unnecessary widgets and sync'ing plus i set setcpu to throttle the cpu down to lowest speed when the screen is off. as such, i'd like to know what others are doing to squeeze so much battery time out of their TBs.

Hours now and I still have about 45 percent... Heavy usage texting music internet and xda posting.

On all Android devices the screen is the battery eater, except on 2.0/2.1 with Exchange Sync issues... then it could hang and eat the battery.
I've never really had an issue with battery life. That's not to say my battery lasts longer, i just use different methods to keep my devices alive.
AA USB chargers have always been a good friend of mine, as well as plugging my phone into my laptop while it's in my backpack.
I can't wait for an external battery charger to come out for the TB, then you just have 2 or 3 batteries and swap them out as needed.
But if you're expecting more than 8 hours or so off of one charge they're right, you may look for another device
Yah man, 3 hours of navigation, with music going, many calls, 3 hours of internet use, txt & talk and LTE and 3G switching through out all day because of traveling . I was really heavily using the phone with an extended battery but made it just over 24 hours... Try trading it in for another battery. Your not Wifi tethering all day as home network are you?

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Blackberries are known for having excellent battery life. I had 12 hours 40 some odd minutes and was at 69% last night when i plugged my TB in to charge. I really don't understand the problem.

You bought a device with a 4.3" screen and a brand new radio technology. Honestly, what did you expect.No phone out there with a screen that large has what could be considered great battery life. Sure some are better then others, but these are not BB devices. And while we are at it, lets be realistic here... if they put in a bigger battery you would be in here complaining about how large and how heavy the phone is.... You can't have everything, something has to give at some point.
I think the biggest complaint can be summed up this way. For HOW the Bolt was shipped, most people feel that they shouldnt have to tweak ANYTHING for it to last them all day. I, to a point agree, however, with that said look at any new computer. Can you pull it out of the box and just run it? Sure you can and it will work well for the AVERAGE user. Now, someone with more knowledge will want MORE out of their computer. Its the same with the battery life. Those of us that use it MORE will see crappy battery life. Why? Because were using it more.
Tips/tricks/apps and what not are for people that are going to use their phone MORE than the AVERAGE user will. My mom gets two days out of her Droid 2 before she has to charge it. ALL of her settings/themes/everything is stock out of the box and never bump charged. My sister has the EXACT same phone and was getting a single day use out of it. I installed JD on both of their phones, and my sister gets a little over a day and a half and my mom gets about two and a half days. My mom RARELY touches her phone while my sisters constantly using it. Two separate users, two separate charge times. One gets amazing battery life, the other complains about how short the battery lasts.
So, if you use your phone more than the AVERAGE user, expect below average battery life. This phone IS a battery hog, I will say that, but then again, my phones in my hand and Im playin with it every chance I get. ;-)
On this one, both parties are right and wrong. So agree to disagree, take the steps to get better battery life or move on. Its getting redic with the amount of threads there are dedicated to this topic.

The only thing I'm confused about is I thought the latest HTC sense was super efficient. I tested the HTC inspire stock ROM with the current widget. And idle power draw was a mind blowing 1mA, sometimes 3mA. That is just superb standby power. Same improved snap dragon CPU, RAM, etc I'd think the thunderbolt would be the same.

Different radios, different processors,different screen types = different power consumption
I did notice on the stock fimware before i rooted that the idle usage was virtually nothing. WAY better than my vibrant was. It seems since ive rooted and undervolted ive lost some battery life, but man the performance is so worth it.
Anyway, we are carrying around full computers with broadband speeds. im not complaining about battery life.

If only.
My Bolt's (stock, rooted, custom rom, whatever) idle drain is about 36-40mA with bounces up to 90mA quite frequently.
Ok guys I apologize. A week ago I setup the current widget on 2 thunderbolt units here at the local Verizon store. Both collected data for a full week.
I just looked at the data and both phones stay at 34mA during idle time. Day after fly, over and over the results were identical, on both units. And they stayed on during the night too!
The bad part is that I did the same on the stock inspire at ATT, and that phone hit 1-3mA doing the same idle use. Which is a superb result. My nexus one stays around 5 mA.
So no wonder the thunderbolt sees worst battery life. You are gonna have to try a different ROM, or remove the crap stuff running.
Interesting though, perhaps Verizon has something running on the ROM. Go stock!
I had good battery capacity when mine was stock. It would last all day. Now if I played with the thing constantly it wouldn't. Using it here and there, I would never hit yellow.
I have tweaked it to get more batt life. I keep the screen on low setting unless I am outside and can't see it. Keep GPS/BT/WIFI off until i need it, and I shut the screen off when I am not actively using it. If you go under information, the screen uses the most battery life. Nothing to do with sense. Even GPS didn't come close to the screen usage. So I make sure the screen is off unless I am actively using it.

Hmm, that's not good. I can confirm that both my Nexus One and nexus S draw about 5mA. Any thoughts on what might be causing the bolt to draw 7 times the amount of power. Is there any way to monitor it?

I really don't know what the reason is other than to say its just the stock ROM. In the other battery thread multiple people posted saying their thunderbolt only hit 30mA during idle. So I was skeptical but not anymore. Particularly because both working devices I checked had such damn similar results, both a little over 30mA. And there was a ton of data, from 2 devices, matching what this forum claims. Only suggestion is use another ROM.
Related story though. Previously I used the same ROM install for 5 months on my n1, and at the end the phone would only hit 50mA during idle over night. Presumably from just months of my data, app installs, etc. Clean flash took it right back to 5mA. Even with all apps re installed. So there is something to lots of crap loaded. Anecdotal, but proof enough for me.
the biggest battery hog for me is the screen, as long as you turn it off when your not using it and keep the auto - lock to 15s battery shouldnt be an issue for anyone
ALso, Juice Defender Beta has been updated on the market, and works well with the TB now.
I'm running the Virus Rom with Adrynalyne's 4.1b Kernel and I **** you not, last night I left my phones screen on (because its set to never dim but I should have the app control that now that I think of it) for 8 hours while I slept. Woke up and looked over at my phone lying on my nightstand with the screen on, picked it up and it was at 20% battery left. I think I passed out when it had 80% but I can't be sure (damn this Kraken Rum)
Either way. People with battery life complaints. I...I pity you.

My mom RARELY touches her phone while my sisters constantly using it. Two separate users, two separate charge times. One gets amazing battery life, the other complains about how short the battery lasts.
So, if you use your phone more than the AVERAGE user, expect below average battery life. This phone IS a battery hog, I will say that, but then again, my phones in my hand and Im playin with it every chance I get. ;-)
On this one, both parties are right and wrong. So agree to disagree, take the steps to get better battery life or move on. Its getting redic with the amount of threads there are dedicated to this topic.

disagree with most of this. i had a droid x prior and am using this device exaclty as much as i did that one. my battery life if HALF what the x was. and before you ask, i've had 4g toggled off continuously for the last week and have seen only marginal improvement.
i realize the t-bolt and the x have different processors/screens/radios, etc, but all-in-all they are pretty close performance-wise when i comes to everyday use. i can see the t-bolt having marginally worse battery life than the droid x, that would be a reasonable expectation. but HALF? sorry, not buying it.
i can't think of any other explanation than that the firmware
htc pushed out on this thing is flawed. not a dev though, so maybe i'm dumb...
If anything you should see improved battery life since the newer snap dragon is more power efficient, etc.

No battery complaints here. Half on 3g and half on 4g. This is with the htc extended battery. Running chingys rom with ziggy's latest bfs kernel oced to 1.49. Kik running the whole time.

You can't compare the X to the thunderbolt. The X has a bigger battery to begin with, so you can't judge power efficiency based on uptime.

i'm not following you logic here. the droid x is a direct competitor. we're talking apples to apples here. it's significantly better in the battery area. i had an original droid before that and it was much better. how can that be irrelevant?
your notion that "this is just how smartphones are. you knew what you were getting so deal with it" is just plain wrong. we are discussing whether the battery life on the thunderbolt is a weakness or not. look at posts #5 and #6! you're telling me that's normal?
the idea that there are more people praising battery life on this thing than are complaining about it is wrong too. pop over the the htc forums and see the number one beef is over there. go into a verizon store and mention "thunderbolt battery life" to a tech and watch them roll their eyes.
bottom line: the thunderbolt is great in a lot of ways, but for a large percentage of us the battery life is pretty crappy, and for no good reason.
Well with all this 1 year contract stuff coming to an end i've noticed that I may need to switch from my Incredible to a thunderbolt. I love my incredible, esp flashing the many different roms that have been created. I've read a TON of reviews and everyone pretty much says its super fast, similiar to evo, and the battery sucks. Let me ask you this, when new roms emerge will custom kernals and such save the battery life? Is the battery life compared at all of a TBOLT to a Incredible? Right now im running warms z with chads 12/23 kernel and im seeing a good full day with more usage than an average person (always have wifi,bluetooth off). Should I take the 1 year contract plunge before the 17th of this month? Or maybe buy the Tbolt and put on ebay with just 1 more year to use my current incredible? And please tell me your daily usage and batt. life currently with your Thunderbolt. Thanks, and yes i've searched a ton.

If you read my thread i stated that i have searched and read a lot of reviews. I just want honest answers whether the people that have bought this would buy it again.
Well worth IMO... I change phones ALOT, and I have had ALL of them. I don't see myself leaving the Thunderbolt anytime soon.
Why??? Fast and ****, both phone and data, my bluetooth keeps my music playing through my truck even if I take the phone into a gas station with me, GPS is fast and solid as a rock, Speaker sounds great, screen is superb (dark and light), call quality is excellent, and for the past few weeks I have had it.... NOT ONE stall or hiccup. I'm sold.
I honestly can't say there is anything I don't like.

Are you in an 4g area? I don't think my area supports it as of yet. With moderate use your getting through a full day with the battery?

I got to agree with DroidTh3ory 100%
I too have had just about all the high-end and many low-end android phones.
I must say hands down, there is no other device that can compare to the sheer quality of build, and its down right stupefying speed.
I have 0 complaints to make about the battery, yea maybe its slightly not as great as other phones, but like that picture above, it will last you all day.
just to add, im running mine at 1.4ghz undervolted.
Thunderbolt is worth it imo, but I am thinking about getting extended battery. I need to constantly check my email and voice calls so I'm going to be losing juice much faster than the average user.
Aside from battery issues, this thing is blazing fast. Imo faster than atrix

Build quality has been great (just like my DInc) and there are a TON of developers that are creating ROM's for the device. Soon, CM7 will be out for it and I think there are a ton of people looking forward to that.
As far as battery life goes, it's a 4.3" screen and it's a 4G device. Complaining about battery life on this device is like buying a GT500/Viper and saying you love the speed, you love the features, but you just hate the gas mileage. It's par for the course and if you use the phone a lot, your battery life will suffer. Flash a better kernel and you can improve it somewhat though. FWIW, I can get a full day out of it and honestly, that's all I need.

Yep, smack dab in the middle LTE spread for my area. Emails, texts, calls, alot of Navigation, and my Bluetooth is almost always connected to my truck so I can rock out. Even before the Kernel switch I made through the day, but after the switch I have some to spare for those REAL busy days.
FYI, I conditioned my battery on the first day with my first 3 charges.

I when from the Htc Droid Eris to the Thunderbolt and the 1st few days encountered "battery issues". I haven't rooted the phone yet but i did those tips on changing a few settings around and i unplug my phone at 8 am when i leave my house and plug it again when i get a notification that is at 25% at around 11:30. i use it a good amount of time during the day and spend my lunch break (about and hour) just surfing.
Once the phone is rooted there are A LOT of things that you can do to improve it even more. My advice do it yesterday! lol.
P.S. Btw i live in NYC and have not noticed any 3G, 4G swapping between services, it has all been 4G.
Im getting the itch. For the most part though verizon is forcing me to sign another 1 yr contract bc they are cancelling it on April 17th. Its gonna be weird to be stock until some solid roms and kernels are developed.

Yep, the Battery Conditioning App (link below) works great... Wiping the battery stats in Clockwork does the same thing also but I like this because it deletes the "batterystats.bin" system file without having to restart, and the OS can't create a new one until the battery is conditioned (reboot).

I'm getting great battery life on adrynalyne's new kernel and ROM. No regrets switching from my D1 running CM7 with prime's kernel. Would love to see prime dev on the TB as his was the best kernel for my Droid, but I can't complain at all with how I'm doing

Battery life was horrid, as expected, out of the box. After rooting, getting rid of bloat and running a cpu throttle I average around <10mah when idle. Not to say that it doesn't suck juice when I'm using it, though. But, it's well worth it. The phone is fast as hell.
Build quality is nice, as well, as others have stated. Would have preferred a sliding battery door and a red/blue/yellow led but I can live without.
It's the US 4G Edition of the HTC Desire HD...what's not to love? When the Inspire was one month in after release, there was hardly any dev at all except a complicated gold card root method and now its got MIUI and a lot of other rom choices... This phone hasn't been out for even a month and we've got simple root and strong dev support... I've also owned a Dinc and a bunch of other devices and I'm quite happy with my Thunderbolt

Dude...the phone is totally worth it. I've just installed the new Das BAMF 1.4 with the new Adrynalyne kernel, and my battery life is teriffic! Phone has been unplugged for 13 hours, and i'm still at 65%

Woah woah woah you're getting less than 10mA idle current draw? Can you explain exactly what rom, kernel, and settings you are using? I've tried just abouteverything I can and i bounce between 36-40 with frequent spikes to 100. Thanks.
I think its well worth it. Yes, battery life is far from great. However, its only slightly worse than what I experienced on my Samsung Epic. I'm in a 4G area the majority of my day, but sometimes travel outside of it for work. Coming from Sprint and being used to unlimited data, I use my phone all day. I listen to music, whether Pandora or iheart radio (my trucks stereo recently just stopped working ) all day traveling between job sites, check email quite frequently, txt and gtalk literally all day long, and make about 25-30+ calls on average a day. I also have all 4 of my email accounts set to check mail every 5 minutes for work during the hours of 5am-10pm every day, which i know contributes to my battery drain, but its necessary that I get my mail as soon as possible for my business.
Considering my usage, I think the phone handles quite well. Yes, I wish it was better, and yes it does drain quickly at times, especially in the morning even if I change some settings. However, I keep a spare battery on hand as I have done with all of my past Android phones. I have no regrets about buying the phone, except for the video recording issues I've experienced. If you love Android and rooting, I really don't see what their is to think about.

I have tried just about EVERY ROM. And I still am only getting around 6 hours of battery life. Is it the ROM, the dumbass user (me), or something else. I keep hearing the fantasy stories of people getting 15 hours on battery while using the phone all day long. Can someone point me in the right direction as far as ROM / Kernel combo that truly does this? Currently on the latest CM7 Nightly and don't like it at all.

I've had it on for about 6 hours and I'm down to 65%. I mean it's not terrible, but considering the phone was in airplane mode for 1.5 hours of that 6 hours, essentially the phone has really only truly been on for 4.5 hours. so I'm losing about 9%/hour.
I've literally tried everything I can to increase battery life but it just won't happen. Let me know if you figure anything out.
Hey you know I have had this phone for about a week, and I have tried all these roms on here and to be honest, the only one that does what I need it to do is the tweaked OTA version. As long as I have root and rom manager I am good. My Battery on any device does not last as long people say. So many things have to be considered. Like whether i am moving into 2g networks or how much i am using it.
The best thing for a battery though is to over charge it for an extra bit and then reset the stats. After dont recharge till it turns off by itself. Then do another over charge.
So by overcharging you mean leave it plugged in even after it says unplug it to conserve battery life
Yeah, when its plugged in it will charge continually and making sure its really fully charged.
I noticed this with my Milestone2, it would say done charging and it wouldnt last very long. So I read up on Battery charging and it said you should leave it charged for an extra hour or so. Only when trying to reach full battery stats.
Of course its ok to use it whenever but once in a while you should do a full drain and then full charge

Plus, most of the people prob on here and doing everything under the sun to thier phones to tweak them. That could be a big reason why the batteries arent lasting so long.
Today I went through 3 different rom changes while at work (3 hours). After finally getting it back to where I was before work, my battery was at 23 percent!
Buy an extended battery off ebay or amazon for around 9-12$ Stock battery i can sometimes get about 12 hours depending on what i use my phone that day. But those 3500mah batteries should at least get you 18-24hrs for sure. Just make sure you cycle thru the battery a few times so it can start performing it's best.
Just put the Miui Rom on. Noiw am getting hang ups in Market on Wifi. I go to download something and it just sits there at starting download Any thought on how I can remedy this issue?
Arrgh...would have been nice if T-Mo and LG had put a working product out to begin with LOL!

It would be helpful to see your battery usage screen. I'll paste mine below. I'm also on CM7 (recent nightly) and I get good battery life IMO. Right now I'm at 8+ hours and I still have 76% left, but I've been at work all day so I've only used it for a few texts and calls and some brief web browsing. Typically I'm a very heavy user, always on, and with the stock battery and that kind of usage I only get 5-6 hours. I have a 4500mah battery and with that I can get up to 2 days of my normal heavy usage with that battery. It just looks like a brick and some people don't like that.
Are you a very heavy user? If so and your phone is constantly on then 6 hours may be all you can get. I think some of the claims people make are a bit misleading because there are so many factors that will influence your battery life.

You should give miui another go with stock kernel and setcpu screen off profile, i get pretty good life.

@ phBurks, I am a very heavy user, Constantly relying on GPS as well as phone and mail since I am on the road all day long. I was hoping for better battery life. May have to get one of those extended batteries mentioned above.

And I cannot see any of my APN settings no matter what ROM I use.
Based on my own person experience the only way to get +8hrs is if I'm on WiFi. On cellular....forget it.
Minimum for me on MIUI is 12 hours... With a good amount of usage, and HSPA+... I use SetCPU though, it helps alot. Best application for saving battery life IMO.

You may be able to squeeze out a couple more hours if you use setcpu (from the Market lol). My suggestion though, if you're that heavy of a user, is you'll either need to keep your phone charging in the car (make sure you have at least a 1amp charger ... I use a 2amp charger in my car to make sure its charging at its max rate), or buy an extended life battery. I recommend the extended battery. There's a 3500mah one over in the accessories section that's pretty cheap and sounds like it works pretty well. I have the 4500mah one from Mugen Power. Its a little more costly but it also lasts a few hours longer than the 3500mah one.

+1 Especially if your kernel supports undervolting, i can successfully uv -100 up to 1100mhz, i rarely need to go over that speed anyways and know i can get a crazy high quadrant score if i overclocked anyways. Settings i have righ tnow for setcpu are:
222mhz - 100 uv
up to 819mhz -100uv
Gets me easily 6-10hrs with lots of usageon stock battery.
It varies. I find that using a CM7 cooked ROM have terrible battery life. I'm sorry, just from my personal experience. Only other app that kills the battery is the GPS.
A Stock Cooked ROM gave me fantastic battery life. But.... its stock, and some things in Stock just can't stand. Also, had random reboots. Maybe I messed around with too much crap in my SD Card. Who knows. If I really wanted to, I could make a ROM stable on my phone. But just can't stand the Stock ROM.
Stock 2.3.3 = 15 hours moderate use
CM 2.3.5 = 8 hours moderate use
Regardless, if you want a long lasting battery, don't get an android. No phone is perfect. Only my battery extender 3500mha but I end up with a PHAT Phone. Plus its not protected by my rubber case.
Thats the only reason I don't use the battery extender.
After completely wiping my phone and installing whitehawkx celebration MIUI 1.9.23 I get awesome battery life. I think before since you had to "hack" 3G to get it working on whitehawkx MIUI was why it wasn't working great.
I'm on the whitehawkx kernel that comes with miui, whichever one that is. I'm going to give trinity a try. Then again, I have no apps installed except for facebook with notifications off and auto-sync off. But good news is my phone is not constantly awake now.

Give Eagleblood 2.3.3 1.07 a try, good battery life with its own kernel. I tried with Faux GB kernel gave me random SOD, and reboot, also took way too long to boot too.

Just installed this ROM. Will report back later what the results are. So far so good.

First off, I am loving the phone. It is such a massive leap from the N1 I had been using. While I expected lower battery life, I did not expect to run through 70% of the battery in 4 hours with moderate usage.

I have heard of people getting far better battery life, and have tried the various methods, from charging to 100% then turning the phone off and charging again to 100%, using juice defender ultimate, and even resorting to factory resetting the phone. Still I can't get any kind of good life out of the battery. My question is should I try and get a full replacement for the phone or just the battery? I've only had it sinceblast Thursday, so I know AT&T will happily exchange it, but if yall think it's just the battery, I'd rather just replace that then the whole phone.

Have you found out what is using your battery?.. Even before I rooted and all the other stuff was getting at least 10hr.. now Im getting 24-28hours...
Are you running another ROM other than stock?
Didn't want to root if I needed to return anything, so I am running stock currently. Looking no app seems to be running away and draining all the battery. Everything looks the same as it did on my N1 in terms of what's draining the battery, which is what lead me to believe it's a bad battery possibly.

Yeah.. it very well could be.. mass produced items= bound to have some duds here and there..
Return it for another.. This is a great phone!!!

Well if you do root than TPC's Rom is the best. It comes with kernel and the battery life is outstanding.

I was concerned with battery life at first as well. When I first got this thing I had to plug up 9 hours after I unplugged. So now I am near 30 days with it and the battery seems to have leveled out enough for me to be happy. I got 16 hours on it STOCK no ROOT the other day without plugging in, was at 10% when I finally plugged in. Yesterday I activated Juice Defender again after getting some questions answered. I got 17 hours without a plug in and was still at 25%, so i probably could have gotten 20+ hours if I needed it.
So I am happy now 17+ hours is plenty long enough for me, I always plug in at bedtime anyway.
I'm wondering how many people who are reporting battery issues, if they have calibrated them. Charge your battery all the way, use the phone until the battery dies, then fully charge. This will give a more accurate reading as far percentage used.

first thing I did and I actually never have reported battery issues......I was giving it time to season and it has leveled off nicely.

There is a new ROM Piret RC1, the battery life is amazing, it has a different Kernel as the one with TPC has it';s problems.
RC1 is clean fast and in 2 hours I used up 4%. Then turned every possible service on used it up like crazy to drain the battery, installing/backing up/ flashing new rom and it took 2 hours with heavy usage to drain from 17%. Just to compare last night I had a TPC ROM and was on WhatsApp for about an Hour and battery went from 85 to 34 %.
Re: Returning the phone.
First once you root you can the same way unroot, make sure first you install a stock ROM.
My friends have the same problem, one with this phone, and others with android phones in general, don;t waist your time returnig. To be safe you also have a year to send it to Samsung to get fixed if there is something wrong with it.
Basically, running apps will kill battery, location services kills it the most, sync not so much, heavy use of data does to (I have LTE plan). Use power saver to start at 70%, configure it right, use the CPU app to manage the speed ondemand.
Most important don't frick out, the andoid phones are like that, the major difference is that Iphone does maybe 20% of what android phone does in standby and many things are not available on Iphone, so the battery is better. You will not get more then a day of use on android if you use it to your benefit. 28H is mostly standby, no sync, no internet usage, just moderate. I used to use Iphone heavy and battery would not last a day.
Get a good data plan, don;t use WI-Fi unless u have too, when syncing with the car plug it in the charger, spend extra $10 get a Samsung cable from them, don;t go for cheap 10 dollar once or even 1 dollar once from China, they are very slow to charge. My cable from the box take 1.5 H to charge to 100.
Hope it helps, please don;t quote me on anything, this is purely based on research and one week usage and trying different things, it's strictly my opinion, don;t expect your phone to last like they use too, it's 21st century and techno in it is overwhelming and needs power. Keep the phone have two cables and enjoy!

I have been reading on the battery issues, long before I posted. I have done everything from calibrating, to using juice defender ultimate, to doing a ritualistic dance to try and coax more battery life out of this phone. Still with nothing but 2 phone calls and one quick spelling look up, dead within 8 1/2 hours.
I just got my extra battery and charger from samsung in today, already fully charged up this battery and will see what it can do for a few days. I'm hoping my problems are just a random bad battery. I also factory restored and am running bare minimum on apps just to try and remove all variables. If there still is a problem I will exhange it for another one next week. I just hope they still have some white ones in stock

My battery went completely dead too. I returned mine. Black model though. New one is doing okay so far. Better since it doesn't report 100% battery until a reboot...
Finally went and exchanged it last night. So far I have gotten 9 hours of battery life and am only down to 70%. Better than before, but the vertical lines on the screen are worse on this one than the last.

I have almost the opposite "problem." Not that I'd call it a problem just yet. I had my phone running from about 10am till 1am yesterday. I went to bed and plugged the charger in and it instantly said "battery charged 100%. Remove charger." 15 hours with no drain at all? Granted, I didn't do much with it yesterday but send about 20 text messages.
Going on 32 hours+ battery life and no vertical lines.. bought it when it came out Nov6....

30% in 9 hr's? you need to see what is killing your battery... unless you play games or on the net all day.. that is not good at all..
I lose about 1% an hour..
I don't know what you smoking man but i tried his rom and never had issues. Let me tell you I Have ORD so my suggestion will be based on my usage rather than prediction. I have tried most of the themed/tweaked roms. Don't like stock rom.

Considering I used to be lucky to get 10% drain an hour on standby before, the 3% our so i'm losing an hour now is awesome. And in those 9 hours I checked google reader and played some levels of Trial Extreme 2.
