I installed the 1.3.2 Tiamat kernal. My question is when I flashed this did it return back to the original framework Res.apk?
Kernel does not effect system apps.
No,
Flashing the kernel doesn't touch framework-res.apk.

I'm running Open Soju 0.2.5 on my Nexus S 4G, loving the ROM, but decided I liked the Messaging app from CM7 where it allows white on black, SMS splitting, etc. And since 0.2.5 is deodexed, I thought I would try moving the mms.apk included in CM7 over to my System > Apps folder on my phone..
Successfully moved over, installed and it runs great! Only problem is, every time I reboot my phone the original mms.apk seems to be installed, I have to go into root explorer and re-install the new mms.apk.. anyway to avoid it being replaced upon reboot?
Thanks

Hmmmm maybe remove the stock version, then push your modded version?
Im running a rooted transformer overclocked with clemsyn kernel on 8.6.5.9 and i recently flashed the htc jetstream (puccini) system bar and it went without a hitch. Problem came when the new 8.6.5.13 update was released and i had to revert the mod in order to update. I made the mistake of just deleting the systemUi.apk from the /system/app folder by way of root explorer and after a series of force closes i reboot, only to find that i no longer have a system bar. I have tried to manually put the systemUi.apk that i pulled from a system dump back in the correct folder and reboot to no avail. Ive even tried to flash the puccini system bar again, but still no luck. Is there any way to get back the system bar without completely reseting the transformer?
the puccini mod only changed the button images not the system ui apk as a rule of thumb dont delete system apps. you do not have to revert an asthetic mod before flashing. Just re flash whatever rom you are on and you should be fine. also post in the correct section next time
im on the stock rom, i was under the impression that i had to revert the mod i made to the systemui.apk because the update process would not work
if you made changes to the system ui then that means you are rooted if you are rooted you will not get the stock update. you just have to do it manually
go here and get the right one for your model "http://ca.asus.com/en/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/#download"
tried to flash it through cwm but it wouldnt work i got,
assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/blob". "staging")
E:Error in /sdcard/WW_epad-user-8.6.5.9.zip
K i would just suggest flashing a custom ROM like revolver or prime that will fix all of your issues or maby one of the repackaged firmwares
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281161
The repackaged firmware cannot be flashed without the systemui.apk fix and as for flashing a new rom will that erase all my data or will it stay intact?
your data will stay there on a custom rom unless you clear data in cwm but always best to make a backup with titanium before you do it
i just restored my asus to stock from the settings menu and after the process, still no system bar, cwm will not allow me to flash the update you posted above because it "cannot open it". Im not sure what else i can do, maybe somebody had the systemUi.apk i can put back in the correct folder or a flashable .zip
Hey everyone, I used to have the older 1.4 eclipse rom with the PBJ kernel for the ep4 kernel version. Things were fine and working great. I then dropped my phone into some water, awesome. Got a new replacement droid and saw that eclipse rom 2.0 was out for the OTA FP1 kernel build. I went ahead and put on CWM through ODIN and flashed the 2.0 rom with superuser by installing from the zip in CWM. I can still boot into CWM and the eclipse rom is still running.
However, I am noticing a lot of weird issues that tells me something is not right. I just installed the PBJ kernel for FP1 builds (0542 i think). I went to the immuts website and checked my phone's About menu and it matches the kernel version he says it should be (if installed). Great, so I this is saying the kernel is installed. Previously before installing the kernel, I was able to use wifi tether without an issue. Now I can't "phone is in an unknown state" or some similar error. Also, when opening up the terminal emulator and trying to get root permissions (su) I get permission denied from superuser. No block on the app is set in the superuser app. I also downloaded the Voltage Control app and when opening it says that I am not root and must be root. I also got a root checker and superuser won't give it permissions and it says I am not on a rooted device.
What gives? I have been reading about the EXT4 conversion. Do I need to do this or is it already done for me? Did I install this kernel the wrong way?
The root issue is common on PBJ 0524. It has to do with permissions on the su binary getting messed up. The simplest fix is to download the binary from http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip and reflash it in CWM. Make sure you mount /system before you flash or it won't work.
ext4 conversion has to be done manually. You can use imoseyon's kernel at Rootz to do the conversion and then flash PBJ over it, or you can use imunt's ext formatter. The ext formatter will wipe everything, so you'll have to reflash and restore your data.
EDIT: I only really recommend worrying about ext4 if you plan to do CWM backups. rfs works just fine otherwise.
Was the phone on stock FP1 before you flashed Eclipse and the kernel?
If so, then it sounds like you might just have to flash the superuser zip to get root back. I know some others have been having problems with losing root when updating. Here's the link to the su binary from androidsu.com.
Thanks! I was on stock FP1 before I flashed so I did not need to flash back to the previous version and then OTA update. I appreciate the help!
Need to Root
Sounds like you just don't have root access. Do you have su installed? Did your rom come pre rooted?
I got the Eclipse Rom 2.0. I would imagine that it would be rooted already but who knows..
Eclipse is already rooted. The su binary is on the phone, but the problem is with permissions getting messed up during the kernel installation. It's a well documented problem and there are several solutions to it...the simplest is to just reflash the binary. dwitherell has an adb based solution over in the Tweaked thread.
I would like to know what process is entailed in changing out a phone.apk
I am running a gingerbread 2.3.4 rom deodexed, but with a stock dialer and I hate it.
I have seen some roms using an ics style dialer thats much cleaner, but I cant figure out how to make the switch.
I tried asking for and installing a copy of the ics style phone.apk ( renamed old one, copied new one in, set permissisons, rebooted to recovery, wiped dalvik, rebooted, and fail - the lock screen came up but when unlocked the phone was just black and I was forced to cwm reinstall rom).
Pointers?
i belive you installed a wrongrom or something in the system that went wrong like it being odexed or deodexed

Also try a different APK, they don't all work with all ROMs
Also, you can flash a theme with a better dialer or use a theme manager engine if you are on CM7 base too.
ok, so basically switching out the contacts.apk and phone.apk should have worked with proper permissions set up, I just used a wrong type of apk?
I hadnt thought about just theming it - havent gotten into that yet, but thanks for the suggestion, as I may look into that then.

It could work with another APK, depends where you got it from. A Sense APK would never work in an AOSP ROM for instance.
Theming might be more fun.
Been on CM7 & CM9 for a while but had to go back to GB because I need wifi calling most of the time. I'm gonna try VB...I've read all zillion pages in the threads and have 3 zips on my HD ready to copy over: the ROM, Adrenaline Injector, & the CWM version of Antonx's kernel (I'm currently using the Heimdall version of his kernel).
But I can't find a listing for the Gapps file (unless I missed it). I do have a backup copy of the Market 3.4.4 apk...am I gonna have to go to Google & install them one by one...or can I restore from Titanium Backup in case there in no Gapps file?
As usual, thanks.
No need to flash GApps, it's included in the ROM.
