What routers do you all use with your G tablets? Are there any to completely avoid?
Thanks, WAD
I dont think routers will be a problem. I have tested mine with linksys and d-link and so for so good. Those are the only two I have. Having an N router would be nice for the distance.
Any n1 router. I don't even waste my time with less. I like netgear

I am using Trendnet wifi router with WPA PSK; works fine without any issues.
Apple Extreme Base Station, no probs...
I'm using the one Verizon Fios gave me which is wireless N. My gtab flies with wireless N. If I didn't have one already, I would go for any wireless n router that isn't made by Belkin. Those are the only routers I ever had problems with.
Thanks
Thanks for the replies, I bought a netgear n router to replace my old netgear b. Now I just need to go pick up my G tab.

Ditto. I have a mix of Linksys (WRT610N) and DLink (DIR-825 and DAP-1522) routers and APs. No issues with connectivity or speed.
One little annoyance. The gtab doesn't recognize that I moved from one router to another in the house like my Nexus One does (where it automatically switch to the most powerful signal even though there is a signal present on the existing WIFI connection). I have to manually reconnect the WIFI connection to the other router.
I have an Asus WT500gP v2 running DD-WRT and I've had no issues either.
I use a D-link 625 at home, no issue, also at varrious homes of friends and family as well as public hotspots...i.e. barnes and noble,starbucks,culvers...Some with encryption, others open, or mac filtering, no issues on any of them.
Hey guys,
I'm going to try to make a long story short.
I have two routers in my home and decided to run the second one as a wireless repeater bride. Both routers run DD-wrt.
I successfully setup the second router as the repeater bridge and proved that it works by browsing wifi connected to this router with my Original Droid, Ipod touch, and laptop computer.
However my DC will not.
It will connect to the router, obtain an IP, and report that it's connected, however it cannot access the internet. Mac filtering is not enabled at all.
I was initially running Gummy 1.9RC2 GB with EP1Q, Then wiped and flashed Gummy 2.0 Froyo with EE4, both with the same results.
Any idea's guys?
It's probably confuzzled. I would set them as independent routers with different AP names and just have them both saved.

can't you connect to the main router is it n if so your signal should be good

That's what's so weird, it will still connect to the 1st router and browse...
How can all my other gadgets connect to either router and browse, yet my DC can't?
It's gotta be something on the DC, but I don't even know where to start on Android. LOL
that is wierd although I had a similar issue with the droid x3 it wouldnt connect to my home router which was n but connected to my work router which was b/g try forget network in the wifI settings then restart the router and try again

Yeah, Already tried that too! but thanks!
I should of mentioned, both routers are set for G only.

Not many routers support wrt, what equipment are you using? Airport devices? Hawking tech? Other? Reason I ask is, in my experience, apple equipment will perform this task the best.
It may sound odd but there can be a few things causing this problem.
What I would do first is connect the DC to the second router, then try to ping the router. There is a free app on the market to ping. If you can ping the router then you might have a dns issue, if you can't ping the router, then the second router is probably limiting the dhcp pool, on which you can log into the router and open this up.
If you MUST user a wireless repeater bridge, please test with a laptop instead of the phone to see if the problem is isolated.
If you need to boost wireless signal, I highly suggest getting a third router and setting it up as an AP and wire to the 2nd router (configured as client bridge) OR set up WDS. WDS is much better than wireless repeater mode, but setup is a bit trickier. There is a ton of help on WDS on the net. Wireless repeaters are problematic; I urge you not to use wireless repeater mode.
What kind of router is it? I had to return a new fancy dual channel N Netgear router due to compatability issues with some devices.
Hi,
So i had the lightning rom on my SGS2 for a few months and now i've moved to VillainRom 3.0.
Now i have a strange issues that the wifi will not turn off when it can see a favorited connection. This is ok at home but when i travel around i see public hotspots which then blocks my 3G connection.
Has anyone had this before?
Thanks,
Hello, I am having some issues with my Infuse. When I am connected to my Wi-Fi, Browsing the web is very sluggish and YouTube videos are pretty much out of the question for me. I'm just wondering if this is a hardware malfunction or just the infuse in general? Is there any kind of tweaks that I can use to speed up the internet connectivity via Wi-FI? Or something I can do to my router settings to speed this up? I can sit right next to my wireless router and it still doesn't do any good. The speeds I am getting on speedtest.net mobile app are:
Wi-Fi = Ping: 71ms DL: .43Mbps UL: 1.11Mbps,
AT&T 3g(I do not have 4g connectivity where I am at) = Ping: 181ms DL: 2.77Mbps UL: .62Mbps
Laptop on Wi-Fi = Ping: 52ms DL: 5.27Mbps UL: 2.48Mbps
*NOTE* This is on the same wifi connection and on the same server.
Change your modem to KK3 and set your router to WPA2 encryption cause wep is junk
Which Modem+ROM+Kernel is OP currently using please?
Not exactly sure on which modem or kernel right now as I'm at work, can look when I get home. I am on the infused v2.2.3 rom by gtg. Whatever his rom comes with is what is on my phone. I will also try those router settings when I get home, thanks for the replies.

Well I believe it's KI3... and infused kernel.
So all I can say is the modem you have is what works best for me, so that's fine, although some people report that KK3/4 work better for them.
As far as the rom goes, gtg does BRILLIANT work and I have much, much respect. For my particular Infuse 4G and location, however, I never got good Wifi results with Infused. Don't know why.
You'll find differing opinions everywhere, but I have the best wifi reception with MIUI, but there are too many other things about MIUI ROMs that bother me, so I don't use them. I find it unstable...CM7 is also great on wifi for me.
If you can't get results with infused, try another rom!
For network, try APN trick or Thunderbolt...
hope you work it out!
Well today while I was on my break I did another speed test and got pretty amazing speeds for AT&T 3g. So I think my issue is just wifi. Is there a thread you could point me towards to try flashing another modem to see if it fixes my issue? What exactly does the modem control?

diablo009's CWM-flashable modem thread is stickied in Dev.

To be honest the question you're asking is a bit above my understanding, but from what I can gather:
-Modem is a piece of firmware that interacts with the radio hardware in the phone
-Affects signal strength and performance, data speeds, can affect battery drain because certain modems will tax the battery more/less
But not sure about wifi effects, really. In any case, I've always found that switching ROMs and kernels is the only way to achieve any significant improvement in wifi performance...but that's just my experience.
Thank you for your help. I will try a different modem and/or rom and/or kernel and post my results after doing so. Hopefully I can solve this issue. I just don't understand why I get good data speeds when connected to 3g with a good signal but when I am at home on Wi-Fi it just craps out. Again thanks for all the replies.
Just flashed KK3 and although I am getting better wireless reception, the dl and ul speeds are still the same. Give or take a little bit. Is it plausible that this is a hardware issue?
Yes it's plausible. But probably not really one you can do anything about.
The infuse's wifi reception seems to be a weak point of the phone, at least against other phones that have been in my house connected to my router. Maybe poor internal antenna quality/placement?
Best option is to play around with different ROM/Modem/Kernel combos until you find one that works for you, imho.
Another thing you might try (I did) is putting a higher gain antenna on your router. Most stock router antennas are between 2-5 dBi... you can find indoor ones up to around 10 dBi...
I think of it using a metaphor: wireless signal = sound waves
The router is trying to talk to the Infuse, but the Infuse is hard of hearing, so the sound (signal) isn't getting received very well. Ideally, I'd like to get the Infuse new ears or a hearing aid... but since that's not possible... I'll just give my router a megaphone (antenna) so it can shout a louder (stronger) signal.
...That was a bit silly, actually... hehe.
Anyways, good luck! I relate to this issue cause I've been there many a time.
Well it can't possibly be my wifi router or isp. The download speeds on my laptop are pretty good. I get good wifi reception on my infuse(full bars) but my dl and ul speeds are just crap. My brother has a cheap android phone on boost mobile and when I run a speed test with his phone on the same wifi network I get around 3Mbps down. It must be a hardware faulty. Is there anything else that I could try other than a different rom/kernel/modem? Anybody know how much Samsung charges for repairs?
Don't blame your phone or rom to quick. I noticed my problem came from the Internet itself. I had to call att to fix my slow speeds by resetting my connection on their side. It could always be the Internet providers fault as far as your wifi goes, and network is a whole other story.

wow, I didn't know that.
I changed my home's router to WPA2 and the speed improvement on my Infuse is shocking. Switched back/forth a number of times to verify and download speeds went from 7-8Mbps to 14.2Mbps. I feel stupid but am happy nevertheless.
thanks!
(ha, now everyone in my family will have to change their device security...xbox (son1), Playstation (son2), AppleTV(me), iP4s(son2), laptop(2, wife), nook color CM7 (me), imac(me) and I'm sure there's more!!!)
You should always use WPA2 when securing your internet connection over your router regardless of what you use your internet for. This is how we keep assholes from stealing our internet connection. Always run a speed test from www.Speedtest.net to be sure your getting your max mbps you payed for, otherwise make the call to Whoever, At&t f'd my line up yet again saying something about my modem wasn't updated which is complete bull**** cause they never send out modem updates, and my speed was running at 0.91mbps instead of 6.56mbps, said I needed to reset my modem and took me through a 30min process just to get my speed back to 6.56mbps.
Having a Dual Band Router and Dual Band Internet card may provide even better results. You can always use 1 of the bands and have your family use the other band.
Well I just can't find an issue with my actual internet. My computer gets decent speeds. My Xbox gets an awesome connection when I play it. My brothers crap android phone even gets better speeds when I run a speed test on it. I just don't understand why it would do it to my phone. I will see how wpa works here in just a bit but I don't see it fixing my issue.

Is there anyway to change any wifi settings on the phone itself? Other than the options in the settings menu?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Your phone doesn't allow you to really change any major Wifi settings, Just add Network connections. Any settings would have to be changed on the routers settings itself. Sorry I couldn't be much of help.
Edit: Woops! Actually if you open up the Wifi Settings and tap the menu button click advanced. It allows for extra settings for setting up a connection. Might help you if you need to put in a specific port, DNS server, Proxy, Static Ip, Ip Address and etc.
Any help at all is a lot for me. I'm just going to have to conclude this as a hardware issue. I just don't see how though. Thanks to everyone who has replied, one thing I learned is how much a difference WPA2 security makes haha.

I have Edimax BR-6324nL router which is Wifi-N tecnology capable, But my Inspire is unable to connect to this router if I set it up to N only. It just connect to the previous tecnologies like G at 54MBps.
When the router is set up to N only my network appear in my inspire but it just say connecting and then disconnected.
Just with this router or you don't see other N wifi neither? What radio do you have?

I haven't tried with another router, all router I have access to around here are B/G only. I have a Wireless USB adaptar that is N, So I will connect it in AP Mode, and will try with it.
I Have the Android Revolution HD 6.3.1 with the 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M Radio recomended by mike1986.
Problem solved. I tried with my USB adapter and it wasn't able to connect in N only mode. I sent an email to Edimax and they give me a solution. It was password encryption problem. N standard need the WPA2-AES to work fine. I just set the password to this standard and problem solved.
Wifi-N standard is working fine, but I just get 65/72Mbps. and signal coverage is not what I expected. it is less as what I got with my Aspen which is just B/G standard.
if anything else is connected to this router via b or g it will scale the speed down to them. Also how are you testing the speeds of your connection?
I have my N router setup for backwards compatibility and the best I connect at is 65mbps. With wireless N, speed is faster, but range is shorter, it does not penetrate walls as well, and it is more susceptible to interference. I had to move my router to a more centralized location and I have not had problems since.

Nothing else with backward standard is connected, since I have it set up to N only. But the thing is that I have more or less the same signal coverage than before when I had my Aspen which is B/G only. In any case I should have more coverage that what I had with the G standard with my Aspen, and it is practically the same or less. According with Edimax website in N standard the speed is up to 6 time and coverage up to 4 times.
The speed is showed in the Wi-Fi connection in the device. Just go to wi-fi settings and hit the active wi-fi connection and a pop-up windows will appear with the info.
But according to my research, the speed limitation to 72MB is due to the 20mhz of channel width of the Inspire. I connected a USB Wi-Fi adapter and it is at 40mhz and it connect at 135MB.
Anyway my major concern is not about connection speed is about signal coverage that is not what I expected. Anyway I will try with another wireless device to see if the speed range issue is the router or my Inspire.

uhh. It is not supose that the N standard range be shorter. As far as I am aware of, this is in the 5GHZ signal, but my router only work at 2.4ghz
