Software update check - Connection failed/Auth error? - T-Mobile LG G2x

So if you go to Settings->About->software update and click on Software Update check. I either get a Connection Failed error or a Connection Failed due to Authentication error or something like that.
Guess is maybe because phone is not widely available they haven't setup the update system yet. Anybody with one getting a successful check?

You need to download the LG desktop software and have the phone connected via USB.
http://www.lg.com/uk/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp
It's the UK site but the software reads the phone's IEMI so it's universal. It also installs a non-windows USB driver which the T-Mobile manual says needs to be installed for charging over USB.

Huh? Why do I need to have the phone connected via USB for OTA Update? When I click on it it lights up 4G so it's trying to connect over the network not USB. I think the server is just not setup yet.

Don't shoot the messenger. From the O2X forum it appears LG isn't a big supporter of OTA. The desktop app is clearly designed for updates and tracks update history as well as providing the ability to reflash the phone back to stock. I've installed the app but won't be able to tell what it does until I get my phone. Who knows, we may never get any updates via the app depending on LG's agreement with T-Mobile.

Ok cool, let me know once you figure out what it does. I'd be a bit nervous using the O2X software on the G2X as it's clearly for the UK version.

The software has the U.S. as a location choice and it won't hurt the phone as the first thing it does is auto-detect the model number and s/w version. Worst case is it says "invalid phone" or offers me an out of sync revision number that I'd reject. Someone's got to go first

I'll let you be the trail blazer here...in a way it's great LG has an alternative to OTA.

I don't know if T-Mobile would let LG dictate an update that requires connecting to the computer, which is a bit too complicated for the average user. Every single T-Mobile Android phone prior has been able to receive OTAs, including the LG Optimus T.

Actually, the Vibrant required PC connection for froyo. I doubt this phone will receive OTA updates.
To answer the OP, I get the same error attempting updates on my 2Gx.

This software works fine and recognizes my phone as the 999 model and shows the software is up to date.

if you click on 'Customer Support' then 'Supporting Models' you will get a list of all phones supported and the latest software revision for the phone

I'm getting the same error. Its also constantly turning 4g on and off. Data isn't working at all. This phone is really pissing me off...
T-mobile is saying that its because my phone number isn't completely ported from Sprint (it's been over 24 hours now) but my calls and texts are working fine so I think they are telling me a load of BS.

Not so much a load of BS, but more of what they have to do. Ports CAN take up to 48 hours to fully finish. 99.9% of the time it takes just an hour or so and everything works. However, until they wait the required amount of time, they aren't allowed to do any more troubleshooting unfortunately.

Well right now its been over 48 hours. I went to T-mobile today and got a new sim card. Still no data. He said this was happening everywhere and its because of a big storm in Bellevue (where the Tmo headquarters is at). I believed him until I looked at the past weather for Bellevue. Lg update support tool

i went to LG's site and used their support update tool too install all the needed drivers for my G2x and after it was done i unplugged and rebooted my phone and now my phone seems much smoother and color even slightly better, and more even with less yellow. weird cuz im not sure if it installed anything on the phone but it must have. anyways try it out. it'll make your life easier for updates anyways.
LG support update tool site
it doesn't install anything on your phone. you're seeing things. aren't you the same one who had a "fix" for the yellowish screen that was proven wrong?
what i did DID fix my last yellow screen on my 3rd g2x from the store, i was incorrect about the screen bleeding being related.
I'm looking to contribute information on what has worked for me so others may have similar results and less of a headache since no one here has the luxury of an LG tech in their house to fix their phone at will. if you don't like it then don't do it. everyone on this site wants the same things from what i see, and theirs no need for people with negativity putting others down when everyone is merely sharing experiences and information.
from lg....This application allows you to conveniently download the user's manual and application
software forthe LG handset you use, and update phone software by connecting your
handset to the PC directly.
so if you didn't update the software, how could it fix anything? all it does is install the usb drivers to allow your phone to be detected by your pc. and allow the update tool to detect your phone. not being negative. just realistic. sorry

same here
there wasn't an update last time i was on their site for our phone, and now it has the G2x p999 as an option on their actual site. the tool used to install a couple other drivers when i used it last time and those may have been incorrect. it has never said update available to me until i checked today.
even if its just drivers maybe that was what was causing it or maybe now that since it had correct drivers on windows (not on phone out-of-box) it possibly corrected an error. either way doesn't matter to me. may have fixed something or maybe not. just sharing
no offense meant friend. it seemed like that statement was going to continue into something uneeded, thanks for the apology though. some people on here attack people who are just looking to help (i see it on many forums), and who aren't necessarily experts or programmers. and those are people who don't need to be on here in my opinion. it just disrupts the flow of ideas which leads to solutions. edison said he never failed when inventing the lightbulb. just found thousands of ways how a lightbulb wasn't made
v10f version did not change on my phone but the drivers changed from what the tool installed when i first got the phone when it came out. it used to install some others on my computer in addition when selecting LG-p999dw in support tool software. its possible that this changed nothing but my phone does run smoother and ive been messing with it since last night and it was a bit unstable and slow when i took it out of the box.

[Q] Questions about OTA rollouts???

As far as getting OTA updates, is there any difference between being on T-Mobile's phone network or on random wi-fi link? Does it make any difference if the sim card is in the phone or not?
I don't have reception at all at home so the phones are just on wifi and I often only spend a few hours a week on T-Mobile's network. So at that rate I may never get the OTA update. And lately my SIM card is in my spare rooted G2x which I've been using to try out ROMs.
Does anyone have any idea how phones are selected for updating? Random based on IMEI number? Phone number? SIM card? Date phone was purchased? Date the phone was manufactured? Does account type matter? Prepaid vs contract etc.?? The lack of info about this is infuriating. Same as the new market, weeks later, still no new market on my stock phone (not side loading anything on that phone).
The fact that Google has no direct support for Android at all and they are leaving support completely to grossly incompetent companies like LG and T-Mobile bodes very poorly in my estimation. Will this have me go to a locked down phone like iPhone or WM7 phones? No. But it leads me hoping they might open up WebOS more and get it on some better hardware.
Basically, is there anything I can do to influence the situation, or is it completely random? Does checking more often help, or will my phone only get the update once Google/LG/T-Mobile determine my phone will get it???
No one has any idea? Not even wild, inaccurate speculation??
I am interrested in knowing this as well! I spend most of the day on wifi calling either at work or at home...
I recently spoke to tech support he told me he would recommend updating thru the lg update tool because its a secure connection.

I heard they use IMEIs, but I don't think the IMEIs are necessarily in order of oldest to newest. One of my buddies who bought his nexus one from google a couple months after I did would always get OTAs before I did.
And we both got OTAs over wifi. I wouldn't know if your sim card needs to be in there, but I would definitely leave it in and just run the *#*#checkin#*#* command just in case.
But nonetheless, to anybody:
Please use alogcat while downloading the OTA.
Once done, just upload the whole logcat so that we can find the URL for the OTA.
Ha! Strangely, I got my OTA GB today. While on cellular, not wifi. Go figure.
Still waitin' on the new market......
Sorry, I wish I had known about the logcat thing. I may flash stock 2.2 onto my spare rooted g2x and wait to see when it gets the OTA, I want nothing to do with the LG updater app, but I might loose patience, we'll see....
Oh, and the *#*#checkin#*#* command??? Has this been tested to work on the G2x? Is that regarded as useful on Android phones in general? Or certain brands, like just HTCs? Search isn't showing too much info on that.

New LG Rom

I'm on CM9, so in order to get the new Baseband is this what you do?
1. I have CWM recovery.. (Do I flash stock recovery first using oneclickflash? Or do I just use LG tools?)
2. Install any rom you want.
Nandroid, Change recovery back to stock. Use the LG tool to install the new LG stuff. Change back to CWM, restore nandroid. Done. At least as I understand it. I am waiting for feedback on the new baseband before I install it.
First flash the zip file that kews posted today here ( to make sure lg updater tool doesn't bailout on update, you can directly use lg updater tool but I didn't try it)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602798
.. and use lg updater tool to do a full restore back to stock. you will loose your root, cwm everything.
I have a new laptop so I was in the process of installing drivers, etc. I had the LG tool up and before I reverted recovery and all that, it found the phone and told me I had an update. So i made a nandroid backup, and a Titanium backup. Without reverting I "clicked" the update. It installed all the new goods. When finished, it had stock recovery and was not rooted. But it did have the new baseband and all the bloat. Very painless. I did a oneclick root and installed CWM recovery and I'm back in action. Didn't take all that long.
I plan on running the new stock for a while to see. I was running TSUGI previously.
GPS seems to lock very quickly, seconds. Previously it would take minutes.

I'll be looking forward to reading your experiences. I'm currently running Tsugi and, except for the long TTFF with the GPS, have been very happy with it. If the GPS continues to lock quickly for you (I've gotten locks in a few seconds, but not very often -- usually it's 2-3 minutes) and there aren't serious gotchas, I'll definitely consider switching.
If you read other thread, if you update to newest baseband and instal custom rom, you will be unable to make or receive calls

Yeah, honestly, if I knew what I know now about baseband and calling issues, I wouldn't have updated.
To those who are contemplating on updating - don't update if you want to keep using ICS roms and have a phone that actually calls/receive calls.
Why does LG waste money, time, effort, etc., on updating GB for the G2X when it should be using those resources on ICS for the G2X. If they had, we would have ICS now. Maybe LG did it because it won't be providing ICS for the G2X and thinks that a GB and baseband update is good enough to placate us about updates. If that's what they actually think and did, they're incredibly stupid.

It's T-Mobile's phone. They decide what gets updated and what doesn't. If this was a maintenance release then they pay less for it. A major upgrade to ICS would cost T-Mobile millions of dollars in payments to LG for the update. Since the phone is EOL'd major bug and/or maintenance updates are all you are going to get if you are lucky. Don't expect TMO to pay for ICS, so the G2X, in my best guess, will never get official ICS from LG. If I am wrong then consider yourself very lucky if you get official ICS with properly written drivers.

Correct. I just got off the phone with lg and T-Mobile. First I spoke to lg. They claim they know nothing of a update v21y or any update for g2x and they will have someone call me when they find more info about the updater tool and its updates.
Then I called T-Mobile and made them feel dumb for a while. Finally they said lg is working on a software update. They wouldn't answer what specifically. They even offered to send me a new g2x...Even after they told me they dropped g2x because of all the known issues. I said "isn't that like going to a tire shop to buy flat tires?". They then went on to talk to me about lemon cars in which I replied there are laws that state we are protected from manufacturers over those said "lemons" and people get sued over them.
So I called lg back. Then they say their is an update in the works but wouldn't give anymore information and still deny v21y.
Calling them some more now lol..

Why should T-Mobile have to pay for LG's frigging bad coding to begin with??
LG were the ones who released this damn phone with all the glitches, and now T-Mobile is expected to pay for it? I'm not even in the United States and that sounds absolutely stupid. If LG wants to lose customers by not providing updates because of a small payment from T-Mobile, then they seriously need to crank there heads around because they're on backwards.

5.1.1 OTA?

So today(5-15) I saw online that T-Mobile USA released the 5.1.1 OTA for there branded Galaxy S6/S6 Edge, so any info on when the Verizon branded version is coming out? I'm having multiply major bugs(wifi, memory, and lagging) across 3 different S6 devices(original device and 2 replacements) since launch day. Also, the Verizon Branded OTA that just came out brought me new bugs like with Google voice to text giving me 2 new bugs and making it unusable. Also, apps are freezing like crazy and ends up freezing the whole phone and when I try to lock the phone with the power button when an app is freezing it opens up the camera instead of locking the phone and most of the time I have to restart the phone when this happens and it happens quite often, but only started after the Verizon OTA. Also, from launch day(across all 3 devices) I been having memory issues with the phone, it tells me it has between 1GB-1.2GB of total memory on the phone and I only have 748MB total available with only very few apps on the phone at the moment, everything closed and all the bloatware gone off the phone. I herd that the Verizon OTA we just got was suppose to fix the memory issue, but apparently for me it did nothing at all with the memory on my phone. and lastly I'm having the major wifi bug a lot of us are having witch for me started on the 6th day after launch and never worked again even after I had 3 different devices and still the same thing is still ongoing, and in fact the Verizon OTA we just got made the wifi bug even worst then before.
So the 5.1.1 OTA is really needed for me to fix these ongoing and new bugs I'm having and after 2 months I'm getting sick and tired of waiting for patches to come out!
You probably should go into your system recovery and clear cache. That will probably help a majority of your bugs.

I already did that and nothing changed at all, and like I said I had 3 different devices and nothing changed at all. In fact the 3rd device I got which I still have was giving me problems from very first time I turned it on and during the initial setup as soon as I turned it on from the FedEx box and the keyboard was slow and not putting the letters I clicked in the box and to click next/skip, restart or power off I had to use my pointer finger and press multiple times and fast like a woodpecker would on a tree in order for those functions to respond, and before I can even finish the initial setup I had to already do a factory reset on the phone. Even typing right now in this box responding to you the phone is lagging just typing now.
Don't think Verizon has announced anything yet. The current G920VVRU1A0E2 works fine for me.
To help with keyboard lag - go into settings and make sure the proper language is intalled and updated. Have you tried different keyboards? Swiftkey?

Well 3 different phones since launch day have been giving me all different kinds of problems and never had a device with out a major problem in it and the new Verizon OTA that just came out in June made the phone even worst then before. The Build for the update is G920VVRU1A0E2, and in fact I even had problems getting the update on my phone because from launch day of the OTA-4days after it came out the OTA would not fully download and give me error code 503 and it wasn't until the 5th day that it worked and then when I finally got it installed on my phone it just brought more bugs to the phone like I talked about in the OP

Have you tried using Odin to flash back to stock with the full tar file instead of the update? If not go here and give it a shot. If you use the OE2 one you will have to factory data reset to wipe your phone clean either after or before you flash.

yea I tired that, but this started as soon as I turned on my phone for the very 1st time trying to do the initial set up, plus like I said even pressing next/skip, power off or reset in the initial setup was a hassle. The phone is so bad that even clicking the home button some of the apps, Google search and weather is not on screen right away and takes second or 2 to show up, its lagging to show up.

3 different devices and still the same exact major things plus new things on each device are going on with the phone. Switching out the device should fix it all, but I guess this is not the case here. Plus about the wifi issues I'm in a XDA forum 13 pages long about the phones wifi not working(I know it says edge, but it's the same problems with the S6 and S6 edge so no difference)

I would not be surprised to see that the new upgrade to lollipop was to foil or prevent root. Kind of like the s4. screwed up everything now I have no root.
THANKS SAMSUNG !!!!!!

They already said that the new update(5.1.1) is taking away root
My 1st phone which arrived on Sat came with G920VVRU1A0E2 out of the box.
Other than normal setups, and uninstalling Google Play Services and Google Play it has not had any problems.
Perhaps you should go into a store and show them how it is not working?

Ya you're thanking the wrong company here. You need to thank Verizon...

I did on launch day, I went back to the same corporate store a few hours later and got into a fight with the sales rep who sold me the phone a few hours earlier and the store GM because they were Ignorant because my phone was hot as fuc k at 90F and hotter and they said nothing was wrong. On top of that they even lied to me about having the edge devices in stock on launch day and even pulled out the normal S6 trying to trick me and it was not until I said something did he say oh this is not an edge and then said there was no edge's in stock, but while I was waiting in line I asked him and 2 other reps and they all said they had the white 64GB edge in stock. They rather lie to there customers to make a sale then tell the truth(at least this corporate store location), and then when you have problems with the phone they don't care to help you at all. Even 611 said this was very wrong and made a complaint on mine and 611's behalf on the corporate store and the sales rep.

Have you tried using Odin to flash back to stock with the full tar file instead of the update? If not go here and give it a shot. If you use the OE2 one you will have to factory data reset to wipe your phone clean either after or before you flash.

Here is an update, as of recently my phone is getting really really hot and temperatures of 120F+ and even Verizon technical support saw that through their diagnostic system as it was actually on those temperatures at that very moment when they were looking. Also, from me just being tech savvy and Verizon technical support confirming it as well this phone is also supposed to have a safeguard in the phone and if it gets too hot the device is upposed to power off on its own, but apparently the safeguard is not working because when the phone gets very hot the battery starts flashing and in the middle of the screen it tells me the phone is very hot and it only lets me click OK. If I'm charging the phone the battery flashes and say the same thing but just adds unable to charge, & I can unplug the charger and immediately plug it back in to the phone and it will start charging again and then a few minutes later it will give me the same message. When it's doing that its not supposed to tell me anything it's supposed to just shut off and its not doing so.
So there overheating policy states that I have to bring my phone too a corporate store and they're going to replace the device right on spot. So Sunday I went to the corporate store to do that, but for some reason their system wouldn't allow them to process this because it didn't have an option to do it and the general manager and the store representative we're booth trying together for at least 45 minutes. They ultimately ended up just sending me a replacement device via Fedex to my house and when the phone arrives today(7-2) I have to bring the overheating device that I currently have to the store so they can do what they need to do to send it back because by law I'm not allowed to send an overheating device back. Verizon corporate store processed my order on Sunday and I was supposed to get the device on Tuesday but I'm getting it today due to inclement weather at the FedEx Memphis Tennessee hub and so Fedex at the Memphis Tennessee hub was at a complete standstill and my package was part of it.
Once I get my 4th replacement device and start using it for a while I will let you know how it's working

Guide to updating your H950 (US AT&T variant) to 5.1.1 via OTA

Hi, I just wanted to give everyone some information to updating to 5.1.1 as many of you are probably buying these due to the recent sales. If you don't want to root but wanted the 5.1.1 update through AT&T, here is the guide. You could also try rolling the date method but it did not work for me. I actually bought a bunch of these phones for friends and family, and I've updated five of them to 5.1.1 through AT&T OTA update, and this method is very time efficient
Side note: if you have more than one G Flex2 that you are looking to update, you can update them all using just one sim and swapping them between phones.
Before you begin, do a factory reset under settings if you've already pressed software update and tried rolling the date a few times to get the update. Afterward, do not press software update until you are sure that the AT&T person has pushed the update.
*If you had previously rooted your phone, you must unroot before trying the OTA update, as it will prevent it from installing.
Here are my steps (probably takes around 30 minutes):
1. Register for the gophone plan with the AT&T sim card and put the minimum $10 credit into the plan. For the IMEI, put all zeroes in. This will allow you to select the $2 monthly plan, which you ultimately won't be selecting but instead will select the $1 100mb daily package after your account and sim have been activated.
2. Turn the phone on with your newly activated gophone sim. TURN ON WIFI and keep it on WIFI until your update is downloaded, installed, and finished.
3. Directly call the gophone support line: 800.901.9878, and voice navigate your way to technical support (it's an automated system).
4. When the person picks up on customer service, ask them to put you through to advanced technical support, and if they ask what the call is for, tell them that you were disconnected while talking with an advanced technical support line as this will get you where you need to faster.
5. Ask the person on advanced technical support to push an update to your phone, and tell them that you've tried manually updating through the software update on your phone under settings numerous times. If they insist that they cannot push updates and you have to do it yourself on your phone, tell them that your friend has a G Flex2 with a gophone plan, and he/she was able to get the update pushed with a call to advanced technical support. If you think that the support person is being stubborn and not even attempting to try it, just hang up and try again.
6. Help the support person find the update that you are looking for by telling them the update is called H95011x. DO NOT get the H95011z beforehand, as it will not help you. Ask explicitly for the H95011x update. You can also read some more information from this page, which is the link to the page with the update information (edit: cannot post the link since I'm a newbie... Alternatively, you can find the software info page it if you type H95011x on google and look for the link to the site att.com)
7. Keep asking them to push update from their side, and you will know that they've pushed it when you go to the software update under settings on your phone and it says something different now. Instead of "look for update software" or something similar, it will now say, "continue with software update". When you press it, a notification will appear, saying "communication in progress". Tap on the button a few times to make sure that it keeps saying "communication in progress".
8. When you see "communication in progress", just leave the phone alone for the next hour or two, as the phone is downloading the update file without showing you any sort of progress bar. Keep the phone connected to wifi.
9. Come back and a notification will prompt you to install update and the phone will restart.
Hope this helps! I know that getting the AT&T OTA update can be a pain and I wished that I had some guide to follow when I was first trying to get the update.
I am on 5.0.1 v10d right now and rooted. Do I have to unroot in order for the update to work?

I'm not sure, but reading things about going from AT&T 5.1.1 to rooting 5.1.1 PR bricking some phones makes me think that it might be a good idea to unroot.
This is the best guide/advice on how to get 5.1.1 update. Took me 20 min to get the H95011x update and another 15 min on same date to get H95011z.
I wasted about 2 hours trying to get the update OTA by changing dates using my coworker's sim card on Att postpaid plan.
When I read this guide I knew right away the $10 top up will not be waisted. I went ahead and followed it exactly and am so glad I did. The phone is so much better now.
khlavkalash thank you for taking the time, register and putting together this guide! I will also try to contribute by answering further questions in this thread.
Here is the link for the AT&T website detailing the H95011z update. Now if I could just find a rep that is capable of pushing the update to my phone. Grr.
Wish this worked...
I followed this process twice (on two separate days) and they insisted that updates are released only in "batches" and that they have zero control over pushing updates. This phone is awesome, but with it being tethered to ATT for updates makes it so hard to love.

I've had the same issue as you. I was lucky enough to have my sim associated with an iphone plan from way back in the day. As soon as the tech associated my sim to an android data plan it kicked off the 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 H95011x update. Now trying to get them to push the H95011z update has been an adventure in futility.
I will update you if I find another way.

Hmm, I opened a new gophone plan and added 10 bucks of data just so I could do this. Been sitting on my shelf for the better part of two days doing nothing. I hope you get the H95011z update soon. Heck, I'd be thrilled to just get the x update.
Thanks for the info.

Make sure you talk to advanced technical support and use the first rep that picks up the phone just to get transferred further.
If advaced tech says it comes in batches - tell him "I understand this is normal process, however according to my extensive research there is an issue with this particular phone getting update automatically. My friend had the update pushed by advanced technical support last week. Please ask arround how to do it."
Be polite and they will do it. I called last Saturday. Both reps knew how to do it, both were very courteous and even insisted to stay on the phone until the whole process is completed althogh it was not needed.

Hmm perhaps I will give that a try. Honestly, I am okay with waiting for the update but the real issue is how long will I have to wait? A few days is fine but weeks....that isn't worth it. When a get a few more free moments I will try again. Hopefully this time I can get someone to push it out to me. I did get to advanced tech support and the guys were super courteous; they just insisted on me waiting.
Thanks for the help!
I finally got a tech to push the update after convincing him to do a google search for H95011z. Update started and then failed, when it booted the notification was that it failed because root detection was triggered. This is after I used the tool to bring my phone back to stock and downloading a root checker app that showed I do not have it. Sigh, back to square one.

Please add a note to unroot/not be rooted before starting this process. If the phone is rooted it will not update from the OTA download
Also note that the system restore might not strip all artifacts from rooting.

FYI I posted this in another thread. It doesn't help you get to 5.1.1 but it might help you go from x variant to z.
Finally got a tech to do the push but the push failed because it detected ROOT even though I had done the system restore along with verified with root checker saying no root installed.
At that point I gave up because my only option was a factory flash. On a whim I decided to run the backup/restore tool with the 11z .img file knowing I had nothing to lose. From what I can tell so far, it worked fine and I'm now running 11z. I ran the stagefright detector and now my device only shows one vulnerability instead of several.
I will now start tearing it apart with root and etc, if it craps out I'll let everyone know.

I finally decided that waiting for ATT to push out an update that likely wasn't going to come anytime soon wasn't worth it and flashed the H950PR rom. It was super simple, very quick and went through without a hitch. It runs WAY faster than the 5.0.1 rom from ATT and no bloatware....gotta love that. The only thing that doesn't work is the LG Smart World app cause it detects me being in another country (even though I'm in the US) but there is a web interface that works just the same so no big deal. I have fully working LTE and my battery life is superb.
Thanks for all your help and your in depth guide. I (and other I'm sure) very much appreciate your efforts.
Congrats! I am jealous, I had updated my phone to 5.1.1 before the PR option was discovered.

Ah yeah that is a bummer. I've read that people trying to go from the ATT to the PR version have bricked their phone. Oh well, here's hoping for Android 6 soon!!

Well since I never had the ATT one, I cannot say exactly. But judging from the 5.0.1 that the phone came with, it doesn't get nearly as hot, the battery life is quite a bit better (used to get about 3-4 hours of SOT, now its 5-6), standby battery is CRAZY good, its runs generally faster, plus the update came straight from LG so when they release another update it will come straight from them making it easy to update. The same update method should work. The only thing I truly miss is the Glance from the lock screen. It still works, but it used to have a lit background image; now it doesn't have that. Its just the normal material color background. Nothing huge, just a very very minor cosmetic thing.

ATT OTA 5.1.1 does the same.
On the other note, I do not understand how are you planning to get update directly from LG. My understanding is that you will have to wait for that small PR cell company to release another update and somebody to come up with a way to apply it. I have more faith in ATT, then into a small PR cell company in regard to supporting this phone with future updates
