As long as its not the iPhone, which im assuming its not since you're posting in the Captivate thread lol.
But yea its covered.

wow i just looked up rogers handset protection (free of charge)
it blows att out of the water!

They do cover it, but I think you have to pay a deductible of $125.

$125 for a captivate? Sweet...

You can also choose to get a different phone to replace it.

One request, if you're gonna shorten my name make it studa, full name is pronounced like ludacris.
And perhaps flesh eating is a bit harsh ... Nope dead on!

Got it. Figures, first time I abbreviate your name,i get it wrong.

dang a 125 buck deductible? That sucks. And yes it was a captivate. was running firefly.

$125 sucks, but is still cheaper thsn replacing a decent smartphone out of pocket, even if it is replaced with a refurb.

Captivate Best Buy Insurance

So I took my Captivate to Best Buy last night cause it wouldnt turn on anymore and the captivate seems to have reached its end of life with their stock because they said they could not give me another one. Instead I'm getting an Inspire 4G and I dont know how i feel about that haha. well just a post for all you people with the best buy insurance on your phones, just so you know what to expect.

If you want to stick with the captivate find an AT&T device support center around you. The factory warranty should override any Best Buy warranty. The support center will be able to replace the phone for you no problem. But if you do want the inspire go right ahead.
Do they have infuse? You could say you intentionally bought samsung and want to stick with samsung.
I didn't even think about that I was just like yeah ok.
Problem with the BestBuy warranty is that they are moving a ton of phones to their rapid exchange program. Means no more in store replacements and have to deal with refurbished phones... that sometimes show up in 1-2 weeks.
So far the cappy isnt on the list, so get the upgrade while you can.
Eh, I would have argued the hell out of it, lol

Yeah but the Inspire is alright I guess and I already got it rooted and got the otterbox case for it haha if anything ill try to get my wife's captivate to not work and then argue for an infuse on that one.

Eh, you never know. Considering he only got it within a few days, he could go back and say he dislikes it a lot compared to the Cap and it's bs about the replacement. If anything call BB corporate.

Infuse Repairs? Recommendations?

I totally destroyed the SIM socket on my Infuse. Probably tore out a couple of the pins (don't ask!). Any suggestions on who might do repairs or am I better off just selling it on eBay for $175? Everything works perfectly except anything phone call/SMS related. It's like an Apple iTouch now. WiFI, BT, GPS but no phone.
I bought it "semi-new" off eBay 2 weeks ago but of course it has no warranty. I did get a great deal on it ..... so much for that deal.
I know if I even try calling Samsung to inquire about repairs I will forever get lost in the morass of stupid CSR's. I did get a great price on it trying to avoid a contract extension. I can get a new one for $200 w/2yrs but really don't want to do that. I'd rather spend a few bucks to fix it.
Try checking craigslist for your area to see if anydoes small electronics repair.

I actually ended up calling Samsung. Wasn't too bad of an experience. They told me repair would be $70.36 including shipping BOTH WAYS (they sent a UPS shipping label). Sounds kinda cheap actually but I figured I'd give it a shot. They said 5-10 business days.
They did say that "if the repair cost more than their quote" (uh-oh) they would contact me first. I did tell them exactly what was wrong.
i just got to ask... sorry. but HOW IN THE WORLD did you manage to do that??

I Don't understand why you don't simply extend your contract for the $200 or perhaps even less. Then you can sell the phone on ebay for $175.00 so your total out of pocket cost would be only $50 bucks or so counting the ebay selling fees and so on.. Not only would you end up with a brand new phone but you could have it in your hand in 2-3 days perhaps even less.
Why would you rather spend $100-$200 for a repair job? (I doubt you can even find a place which would touch the phone with a problem like you have described)...
Just does not make a whole lotta sence!
OR!!! donate it here for development, or offer to be a tester. Parts maybe? I guess I'm saying there's other things to be done with it if you outright buy a new one.

Repair job from Samsung was quoted as $70.26 including shipping both ways. It's on the way back as I type. Not sure I could have gotten $175 for the bad one considering you can get a new one for $199.
I don't want to be tied down to AT&T for 2 more years for numerous reasons. I am out of contract now. I have my top-o-the-line Moto Krazr I can use for the 5-10 days it will hopefully take to get it back.

My Assurion Experience

Ok, so I've never had insurance on a phone, but thought I should with this phone, and I'm glad I did.
Needing a replacement, I started a claim online. The paperwork was pretty straight forward. I faxed them back, then talked to a rep (their site went down and I could not check on my claim) I received my phone the next day, that simple. I cannot tell you how easy it was and how happy I am I took out the insurance, now.
I am only telling you all this b/c anyone 'on the fence' about insurance, really shouldn't be. To me, at this point with a 5-600$ phone, no question, and to make matters better...it was soooo easy.
there was one little 'hook'. when I opened the battery door, the void sticker was activated. So, this was a refurb, <which I expected> but when I called to make sure Assurion knew this and had it noted in my account, the rep put me on hold to 'talk to her supervisor'. She had me on hold for about 10 minutes when she came back and said that the replacement came from VZ, not Assurion, and that it should NOT have been a refurb.
This phone works just fine and I'm happy with it, and frankly just happy to have a tbolt back. So, I opted to keep it and not have another shipped. Besides, they give you a 1 year warranty starting when you receive your replacement.
Again, I'm just writing this here because if anyone is thinking about getting the insurance, I can testify that their service is A+, everyone on the phone was great and the process was much easier than I thought it would be.
Hope this helps someone else.....

This is good to know. My tb is fine sorta. I haven't met anyone who's TB kills battery like mine buy that may be how I use mine. The finish on my kickstand is peeling and my kickstand is bent and won't fully close. I was thinkin of breakin my screen so I can get a replacement from insurance but people here get butt hurt about that kinda stuff for stupid reasons. Anyways its good to know. I have had insurance on my phones for the past 6 years or so but I never have used it

Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
My only issue with using a claim through them is that after i receive the phone from them, it completely invalidates my warranty from verizon... meaning if after a month the replacement phone stops working and i goto a VZW store, they say "Oh well you got this from Asurion, so you need to call them for a warranty replacement".
Very inconvenient.... however better than paying full retail for a replacement.
Not really make a folder call it phone claim put all your info in email online.
Phone craps out go back to your saved email folder open saved info which will hyperlink to phone claim online track a package do the second option on the screen answer the questions talk to a rep answer their questions.
Takes a little time, and the Vzw Store would end up ordering u a phone anyways, plus I hate the Corp. Stores,Ive got more pull with the phone Reps.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
How long have you owned the phone before needing to replace it? I never bothered to get insurance because even if I broke my phone the day I bought it, I could buy another one for probably $300-400 on ebay/paypal, then resell it once I'm eligible for an upgrade to a newer phone. The difference between the two is less than paying assurion their monthly fee+deductible, and certainly less if I can go for at least 3-6 months without ruining the phone.
I also used a claim when I put my blackberry in with my books and threw the backpack in the truck of my car after finals one semester.
Verizon made me do a claim since it was physical damage.
It was a quick and easy thing, apart from the deductible.

I had a great experience with Asurion too. I had my Tbolt not even 3 months when I forgot it was on my lap when I got out of my hubby's truck. It didn't look too bad after it hit the concrete, but the earpiece no longer worked. I submitted a claim online that night and had a new phone by noon the next day. It was quick and easy, and I don't know if the replacement phone was new or refurbished, but it was in perfect condition in an original box and worked great. I also got an extra battery, sd card, and charger out of the deal. I have always had the insurance since I have had smartphones, but this was the first time I had even used it. Very good experience.

I had asurion insurance till I switched to best buy insurance for mobile phones. I shattered my screen on my tbolt I went to bestbuy and they ordered a NEW one. Had to wait like 3 days or so for me to receive it, but no deductible and only 10 bucks a month. Not trying to make a commercial for bb here but I was increasingly satisfied with it. I know with asurion u pay a deductible of 100 or so and you might end up with a refurb phone. So I was very satisfied with bb insurance.

And that is the type of attitude that has turned our world into what it is today. Your right someone probably wouldn't notice because there are so many hands in the cookie jar.

Okay so do u really think the $90 deductable is a lot? Seriously I would rather pay the $90 than $500+. N its not like they throw away the damaged device. I'm sure they fix it, test it and use it as another replacement phone. Seriously some of u guys get way too butt hurt over this. Insurance fraud is wrong yes but this is just a phone, just a phone. And the deductables have gone up because phones are becoming more sophisticated and more expensive. U can't seriously think you could get a $500+ phone replacement for only $50....

I normally go through Verizon first and try to get the phone replaced under the manufacturer's warranty. If that doesn't work than I file the claim. Only phone I've had to pay a deductible on was my BB Storm that I dropped in the toilet.

If Ashurion is out of stock of your phone, they will replace it with another 4g phone if you ask.
My brother's Fascinate broke a couple months ago, they replaced it with a brand new Droid X2 just a week after it came out.
I'd recommend aiming for the Bionic.
Good luck

I can't believe people still pay for insurance. It's a scam and way too expensive for the service they provide.

Plus deductible. If you drop a phone and truly break it, it's probably because you didnt have a proper case on a $600 item. But most breaks occur to the digitizer....$30 and extremely easy to fix. Your local mom and pop computer shops will throw those things in for you for less than your deductible.
I'm not trying to knock anyone for paying for insurance...but those companies aren't in it to lose money. And everyone forgets about their warranty. We've sent a couple phones back for repairs and get them back within 3 days of HTC receiving them.
But losing a $600 phone...well that would be the only good thing I can see coming out of it. But cmon...if you lose a $600 phone from being careless ya kind of get what you deserve. Laptops cost less than that now. Gotta hold yourself to some kind of responsibility.

Well now that you got your replacement phone, this would be a good time for you to do one of those screen replacement kits so that you have a backup phone and then you might decide to even drop your insurance on your current phone to save $$$.
You don't get to keep the old phone, you have to send that back. Otherwise, definately would have fixed the screen and kept as back up.

Let us know..
After several absolutely garbage replacement phones, tmobile offered to switch me to another phone... But their offer was a sidekick... So I opted for another doubleshot, this time I got lucky. Its tight, the buttons r great. Everything perfect but already updated... So ill just stay stock I suppose. Yuck. But the upside is I'm now on lifetime warranty, so eventually they'll upgrade it to something else.
Edit: this was through warranty though, not insurance.

Yeah I am so ready for a new phone...I had the mt4g and had to send in 3 of them...then the Slide became a model to switch too....I am tired of slide...Tmobile needs to not brand a phone and overlays...espresso sense is lousy and limits the updates...and to this day with swype i do not use the keyboard.
So, Asurion sent my bf another doubleshot. I am bummed. Now he has to deal with the new bootloader, and that makes me sad.

The previous phone I got last week was on 1.55 and had old market, but the keyboard was falling off and the g key didn't work on the keyboard. This one feels like a different phone, its perfect, except the earpiece speaker is blown. Just not in the mood to set thru another hour of customer srvc, which is still the best. I went through 1 Asurion exchange and 3 warranty exchanges. Every time I got the DS back.
TMo has a policy if you have to do 3 exchanges in 90 days they'll offer you a different phone.
They offered me a Sidekick 4g, and absolutely refused to give me any other options.
It appears the chances of trading out the MT4GS at this point are approaching zero. It's all good. CM9 just came out and tv out + six axis is finally possible. Thats all I really ever wanted.
