And the difference today's update made... - G Tablet General

They installed flash 10.1, at least that is what I noticed. The lock screen and I haven't noticed anything else.
Wonder why they didn't put in Google framework and apps.

Pretty sure they need Google's permission for that and i don't see that happening anytime soon

yep, that won't be happening anytime soon, Viewsonic isn't a member of that official group. I'm sure there will still be ways to get software onto the device though.

I put the Amazon store app on for now. There are some apps from the Google app store I love and miss, Amazon doesn't have. I'll wait to see if there is a market fix from the devs.

Hmmmm, has anyone posted Quadrant, Linpack, or AnTuTu benchmarks yet? Haven't seen any and I'm G-tabletless for at least a couple of weeks (had to RMA mine). Really curious performance wise how it compares to the rest of the custom ROMs.

Enectic --
I have run several Quadrants with the scores from 1700-2000 averaging about 1850.
That doesn't bother me a lot because how the tablet performs is more important to
me than speed tests. I really did expect it to be higher.
For everyone's info, there is a list of the improvements they made in this ROM on
the opening screen of the download. The mainly fixed internal stuff.

I run app2save or something on my g1 then transfer them over to my gtab, some work some dont.

Thanks for the scores! I was expecting around the 2200ish range but it's not a huge deal. Synthetic benchmarks are cool but mostly just for bragging rights lol. When I get mine back I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with Calkulin's or go with this new update. I actually really like some of the features of the Tap n Tap interface. All the other ROMs are cool too but they just make my tablet look like a big phone lol.

Todays update
I have tried using a mouse and it work great. Now to run some other tests.

My Short OTA 3116 Review -- Add Yours!

By the time I got 3116 downloaded, several other people had made varying comments so I didn't really know what to expect.
Here are my observations:
1. Update was flawless and no instability afterward that can see.
2. I wouldn't say it seems "fast" -- but I definitely would call it smoother and more polished.
3. I neither like nor dislike the TnT launcher, but I do appreciate that they put the Android-like option in there. I'll use that more than the stock launcher.
4. They should have put flash in. From a public perspective, it was hugely necessary. And it it was an Adobe holdup, they need to get their PR flacks on line making sure people know they tried!
5. All the apps I have added since the update seem to have loaded and are working fine.
6. I'm still exploring, but I put an SD card in /sdcard2 with a couple of albums on it. Told the music app to start -- it said it was searching -- it found my music and played!!! That was nice. Now will have to test photos, videos, etc.
7. It just runs and that helps!
Summary: Given what's in and not in the update, I suspect this is an effort by the TapNTap people to get out from under the whole situation. It looks to my eye (and I have done a fair amount of programming) like when the furor over the interface started, someone started working real hard to make TapNTap work well. I do agree with somebody that while I am not happy with what came in the package, I believe it probably will be enough to satisfy casual, non-tech users if the VS marketing people can get the word out and generate some interest.
I'd give it a thumbs up with the proviso that somebody better bring some meat and potatoes before long to go with the appetizer!
Rev
I agree.
The stock Android-like launcher is nice. The speed and stability is much improved. We are spoiled with the speed-fix that all the aftermarket roms have in them. I have used TNT lite and Vegan since I got the tab new. I have installed this update and have been usingit for the afternoon. I think it is nice and this can be a mainstream tablet now. The only thing it needs is the flash, which will be forthcoming.
I was one of the people that was very down on the stock firmware. This device is now able to compete head to head with any other android tablet and can go head to head against the Ipad. Once flash is added, this is much better than the Ipad.
It seemed very usable. Pretty nice for people who want something that just works rather than learning how to use Android. The only instability I experienced was some incompatibility with my Exchange mail crashing the mail app every time.
upgrade
Is this the so called 12 19 update??
2insane,
Yes, apparently Roebeet caught it early and D/Led it and posted the link for others who wanted to try it.
There are quite a few posts explaining people's opinions about it.
Rev
A vast improvement.
I only used the new update shortly after install today. I believe for most people purchasing the tablet the update will be enough to keep them from returning the product. It's not going to show the potential of the Tegra processor, but the unit is usable.
The one glaring issue I think is when changing orientation. The gpad is slow and unsure, both the iPad and Samsung tab are instant.
Even though it is a vast improvement it should be more. How is that a few developers on this site can come up with much better software with limited resources and access to key information than the company selling the product?
I had given up my tablet and found the update looking for the stock flash to return the unit. It was fun tweaking it, but I was using time that I really couldn't spare trying to get it work. Not sure I would have followed through with returning yet.
I did a complete wipe and reformat of the system and partitioned the sd card. Installed the update then installed VEGAn Beta 3 without wiping and all I can say fantastic.. Not sure what changed, but VEGAn runs even better now. I have been using my tab for about 6 hours now trying to get it to act up, so far no problems. I have not attempted the Adobe Flash install. Flash would be nice to have, but really is not all that important for my use.
Some of you like numbers, here are some Quadrant scores. Viewsonic Gtablet 2538. My Samsung Galaxy Tab 976. I can assure you that in daily use the speed difference is not as dramatic as the numbers suggest.
To those of you who are frustrated and thinking of returning the unit, you might give it a few more tries. At least give the update a try, it won't run at full potential, but the update appears to make it a very usable device. Even with just the Viewsonic update I have trouble believing that this is the same piece of junk I brought home 7 days ago.
I believe I have a keeper now thanks to the people on this site that share there work and knowledge, with a little credit due to Viewsonic.

[Q] Will using a custom Rom solve my issues with the Transformer?

i have been an owner of the Transformer for just under a week, to be honest i think its a let down.
Internet experience is slow and jerky, flash takes a while to speed up. (Ive tried all browsers)
N64iod runs better and faster on my xperia play (which is a 1 core processor)
Some games seem to re-download every time i run them.
Cant play 720p with HW enabled with SW there slow.
Live wallpapers slow down the OS, my Xperia doesn't!
I could go on.
I know the OS is relatively new, but i cant buy that. The tablet cost me £415 with dock, If i was a normal customer, (the everyday user) i would take it back to the shop as i would think it was broke.
My last point is the constant crashes, it even locked up while trying to shut down.
So please please please tell me there is an answer, i so want to like it, as the concept is brill, i based buying this on my xperia play, i love the os, but honeycomb maybe the problem here!
Cheers.

First of all, what android version and firmware build are you running and are you rooted? Secondly, have you performed any OTA updates since you bought your TF? Before I installed a custom rom on my TF, I myself have experienced serious lag and slow down due to multiple OTA updates. As with any pc based platform, its typically best to do a full wipe and perform a clean install to have it running at its peak. Before I took the route of a custom rom, i did a full wipe and fresh install and could immediately tell the difference in speed. So my suggestion is that you take that route first. Also, if you are interested in rooting and installing a custom rom, be advised that starting with the B70 revision, ASUS changed and locked down the bootloaders and they are currently unrootable at this time...which means you won't be able to install a custom rom. Find your S/N and if it starts with B70 or higher, then you won't be able to root at this time.
I have not had to many FCs, either stock or on Prime. Most times that I get any problems at all are in the stock browser, and usually thenjust a matter of slowness and the occasional "FC or Wait" prompt; particuarlly on more 'involved' web pages. Loading pages are also fairly sloow at times but still faster than my phone. My phone uses Opera for tremendous inprovement over it's stock browser.
Don't know about the 720p, haven't tried and don't know what program you used. Out of box is rather minimal audio/video playback as far as I noticed.
General performance wise, this thing beats a number of x86 systems I've had, espiecally while compiling C/C++ code.
If it's not something closer to the hardware, doing an nvflash to a custom rom might be worth trying but it can be an irk to deal with nuking everythiing you have stored, backups or no.
Internet experience is slow and jerky, flash takes a while to speed up. (Ive tried all browsers)
Latest Flash, Latest Browser (3.2.1) - runs good.
N64iod runs better and faster on my xperia play (which is a 1 core processor)
I have this issue, too - probably Tegra2 related (OCing may help?)
Some games seem to re-download every time i run them.
What games? Never noticed it.
Cant play 720p with HW enabled with SW there slow.
Get DicePlayer - best player around, supports HW acceleration and 720p is good as well (compared to others) - thanks to tegra2 plugins. Not free tough.
Live wallpapers slow down the OS, my Xperia doesn't!
Higher resoltioun and tegra2 issue AFAIK (might be wrong).

i will check my serial when i get home.
for video playback ive been using mobo and mx player
games which redownload everytome are reckless getaway and the spaceship one which i cant remember the name lol its for tegra 2 and its free
if i decide on a custom rom i take it its purely personal preference? i fancy revolution for the ota tools

You are correct, custom roms are always going to end up being preference. If you are able to root, the best way to start off this endeavor is to visit the posts of all 3 major roms for the TF in the development section. Find out what each rom offers, and make your decision based off of that. You can always try out each rom to see which one you like better.
My choices are limited now
checked my serial and its B70.
Looks like i'm stuck with stock until asus / google sort my issues.
One last question?
i here good things about opera, but i dont like the way it loads (waiting for the page to load before displaying) is there anyway to disable this feature?
Sometimes you just want to click on a link i dont really want the whole page to load!
Asus changed the bootloader not too long after they started making the B70 revisions. So there is a very small window of chance that your TF can be rooted. You can always try, but the chances are slim. I can't answer your Opera question...I don't use Opera.

There is no option for this in Opera Mobile; I should know, it's what I use off the phone next to me .
Opera Mini is probably the same, but I would highly doubt it would support that feature even if it wasn't.
@blonqe: I posted something similar and goodintentions replied the same way... he has down syndrome, bless his heart...
Anyway, just accept you got suckered in to all this EEE Fad, iFad marketing BS. The Tegra 2 is a $5 PoS SoC... kind of like the PoS Atom CPU.
Tabs are fairly useless, but you wanted to waste some money
Oh if you disable flash in the stock browser it's speed is good.
I'm stuck with stock too ... REALLY FARKING pisses me off that I'm locked out of my own device.

Lol, this man has made the greatest mod to his TF!
But yeah, try running a custom rom (if you can) and see if your problems are still present. If so, contact Asus and maybe they will give you a replacement, could simple be some hardware malfunctions.
well i tried to root using the all in one tool, when trying to backup and root i kept getting an error cannot boot to pad or something like that, so for now ive had to admit defeat and wait for some bright spark to hopefully crack the new bootloader :-(

Just wanted to bump my original thread to say after alot of complaing from me i can now say i am a proud owner of the Asus Transformer TF101.
Thanks to the fact i can now root and install custom roms.
After a few weeks of trial and error, i tried, revolver, Prime and KRAKD.
The latter for me was easily the best so so smooth, OC 1.504 i tried same on the other Roms, but with KRAKD i had no issues and its just so much quicker in my opinion.
One issue that exists in all the custom roms is that the xbox controller doesn't work until you change the kernel. Weird.
Brwosing is more of a joy and with ICS on its way my tablet experience is looking up!
Still tempted by windows 8 but we will wait and see.
Glad to hear everything worked out.
If you have a PS3, you should be able to use a Sigaxis controller using the Sigaxis application on the market as well.

Did i get a Lemon or the infinity sucks?

Hello people.
I got my infinity 64gb from amazon on Wednesday. So far, i have mix feelings...
The screen is beautiful, no doubt. But, the lag just disappoints. While loading pages, using stock browser btw, it hangs for a couple of seconds. It is somewhat acceptable, but i get the annoying "not responding message, wait or close app" from android.
I really have mix feelings, thinking i might have a lemon and might exchange it for a new 1.
Anyone having the same experience with their infinity? Getting lots of waits or any hang ups with your infinity?
If anyone thinks this is related to that i//o issues (i really don't exactly know how that affects the tablet besides writing and reading memory cards). Please share your thoughts
For the specs, i would think this is my so long waited ipad killa!!! Or maybe go for the acer 700. Maybe i was expecting too much?

I'm having the same issues. I believe many others are having the same issues. I'm sticking with mine and hope Asus fixes us fast.
Have you tried other browsers?
I didn't even bother to use stock and went straight with Chrome, which works pretty good for me. One down side is it has no Flash support. So for this, I installed Dolphin.
With Chrome, I got sunspider result of 1400's at balance mode, which is not only faster than the stock browser, but actually the fastest among all mobile when compared to table below.

Any specific application? I use tablet for ebook reading so I highly rely on those applications, but I noticed previously working fine application (Mantano reader) became much slower to open file above 50MB, and in fact I get "Not responding.." error message very frequently. However, they just released beta version for next coming release. This works like charm. Ultra fast. They did not specifically say improved performance for ICS, quad core etc... but it works... So I wonder there is some component of applications not optimized for ICS. But this is just my guess and no solid logic to prove this as I don't know if current official version of Mantano is ICS optimized or not.
I like android because of flash supprt and flexibility with the os. If not, i would prob gotten an ipad instead. Not than i am a fan of ios anyhow. What bothers me is the fact that i get a smoother experience with my evo 3d than this. Surely when it loads a page, it stalls for a 2 secs or so. With my evo, nothing similar happens. Besides, multitasking is literally dead on the infinity. Isnt androi supposed to be true multitasking?! Like i said, i have mix feelings

Got the same running Chrome in balanced mode (1391). Still a lot compared to Chrome on my laptop (277-329), but looks good on this chart ^^
Boat Browser got 1659, interesting, thought it would be better.

Opera Mobile = 1443, which is a surprise to me.

Done several cold boots. Also did a couple partition wipes in recovery. A couple factory resets from recovery. Also cleaned cookies, cache, and history from browsers.
soo... should i return and exchange my infinity or are people also experiencing the same thing?
Of course they aren't. The issues that are known for EVERY tablet has already been identified. Time to get your hands on that replacement, unfortunately...
I just got mine today, and when all my apps were being backed into the Infinity (70 apps), I noticed it being laggy too.
Pressing the buttons to switch between Eco Mode or what not, and pressing the Super IPS+ button, it pauses for a second or so before recognizing my finger pressing it.
I returned my TF300T a month ago to wait for this, and that tablet felt a bit better then this.
Also, I love the finish on the back of the tablet, but I've noticed that two lines stick out far more on the back then the rest of the lines.
Anyone experiencing the same stuff too?
It's an Asus thing
I have the original Asus Transformer ( taking delivery of a new Tf700t tomorrow) and I have the same lag. It drives me crazy. Browsers would just hang. I have just installed a new rom update from asus that seems to have fixed the problem. I am going to wait for Jellybean before passing judgement.
For some reason, In system settings, under System, there is no "Software Update" option. It just says: Date & Time, Accessibility, Developer Options, and About Tablet.
But nothing about Software updates. It's on Android version 4.0.3, while I see other Asus tablets (on Antutu benchmark), that are on 4.0.4.
And speaking of Antutu benchmark. My Asus had a less FPS then my HTC Rezound! I was shocked by the numbers. My Rezound was hitting over 58 fps in one test, while the Infinity was barely over 45 fps!
The part that made no sense. When I first tested it, it was on Balance mode, and it scored at 12271. Afterwards, I selected Performance mode, and it scored 11770!
WTF? I thought this was supposed to be the Top of the Line Android tablet, and it's not making a great first impression.
My HTC has a Rom on it, so I have WiFi tether. I tried to see if the tablet would connect to it, and it was connected, but the speeds were so slow that no data was being sent; every webpage wasn't loading, and it just pissed me off.
Also, for some reason, it's not charging past 97%. Is that even normal?

Do you like spamming the threads with posts saying "butt hurt" or posting useless pictures? If you have a problem with a specific user, hit them up with a PM.

Infinity great at first then getting worse with use.

I got rid of my prime for an Infinity and when i first got the infinity, it was flying. Fast, stable, wonderful...especially compared to the prime. After about 1.5 wks of daily use, ive been getting random lock ups and slow downs and have had to reboot or cold boot several times now. I have been very careful to not load too many apps or games and if i think an app or game is causing the problem then i immediately delete it.
I recall this happening to the Prime and am wondering if this is how its going to be with these ASUS tablets? They are so great at first then slow down and become laggy causing the user experience to sufffer greatly. Does anyone think JB is going to fix this problem?
Jelly Bean will make this tablet like BUDDDDER
I would wipe/factory reset
Start of fresh, JB is around the corner.
I keep reading posts about how poor the performance is with the TF700 and I keep wondering if I'm using the same tablet?!?!
Not sure if it's the Zeus ROM or what, but I don't have any performance issues to speak of!
For those having performance issues - maybe try the Zeus ROM and see if that helps (at least until JB comes out)...

Heck I dunno...
mines started off smooth as well, then came a lot of freezes and force closings. I did a factory reset about a week ago, and its seems back to the way it originally was. Everything is fine now. I do hope JB comes soon though.

Well, I was going to say it seems to come and go with mine but I've gotten about 10 browser not responding messages trying to reply. It started off really good when I first go it but it has gotten progressively worse since then. One thing I notice is it seems to be the ads in web pages that kill the browser. I guess that flash is causing the problem? The android browsing experience leaves a lot to be desired.
I call it the Windows XP syndrome.
XP was zippity fast on a clean install, but add a few years into it of loading it with all kinds of applications, AV changes, system restores, repairs, etc.
and you get a XP that takes a good 2-3 minutes post startup to run, and it will slow down over heavy usage.
I also experience this with Firefox in Windows 7, that browser was a beast with all those add-ons and the only browser with a true Ad-blockers, but as Firefox approach version 13, it's become a slug and can't handle many tabs.
I have not noticed a slow down....yet. But I have disabled a lot of crap that seems to start on its own.
This device is now three weeks old or so and there is yet to find a glitch.
A little tweaking goes a long way.

The Zeus Rom also removes a lot of bloatware, as you said, don't underestimate how bogged down your system can become with all that stuff running in the background.
Hmmmm....
As one of the un-knowledgeable as far as development:
Would Android being Linux (I guess) be more subject to bugs and failures because it's RAM friendly and lighthearted.
In other words since Android seems less complex would its speed versus hardware cause cross links or file IO failures more readily?
I know Windows has driven me nutz for years...always wanted to try Linux yet never have.
What exactly will JellyBean do?
No problems here. Since last update mine is rock solid stable, and performance is quite good. Had chance to use heavily at a 3 day conference and it was great though battery is not as good as my tf101. Also had my first chance to spend some solid time with an ipad2(not new one) . Utterly worthless. It was soo limited and locked down. Performance was fine but not as good as my infinity. 4x3 sucks.
I'm wondering if those with issues have one or more bad apps installed, I know it's happened to me before. They run crap in background and are not optimized.
Lots of problems here as well. I had actually typed in great detail, all the issues I have come across and the damn browser force closed so I lost everything I typed. My tablets acting up really bad, so I'm gonna end it here. This tf700 is the prime with fixed wifi and a nicer screen... please let JB fix this or its going back to Amazon.... infinity tablet #2.... there won't be a #3 if JB isn't stellar!
So disappointed with Asus...

As one of the un-knowledgeable as far as development:
Would Android being Linux (I guess) be more subject to bugs and failures because it's RAM friendly and lighthearted.
In other words since Android seems less complex would its speed versus hardware cause cross links or file IO failures more readily?

The Linux kernel isn't the problem. I would even say that Linux is more stable than Windows.
Jelly Bean has the target to make Android as smooth as iOS devices.

JB will make only the transitions smoother, other than that, i don't think we are going to see any performance boost or at least decrease in lags and hickups. This is due to HW to some extent (imho) and yes, the crappy apps.
I can tell you right away that after removing the live wallpaper that i used as workaround for cropped wallpapers in portrait mode, my tablet is now much faster on home screens that it was before. I also went and disabled some of the Asus apps. I know there are probably some other apps that are running in the BG and should be removed, too, but i simply need them, so no options here.
It also seems that factory reset is helping for some people, so maybe i'll give it a try, too, right before the JB update.
I am still on system that came from the factory.
Of course I don't think the tablet is crap, cause it is not, it is great, but it really needs some gentle hands sometimes to get it up to speed.
There is one thing that makes me VERY angry sometimes, so angry that maybe someday the tablet will fly into the wall....
I have enabled the screenshot function of the back button. Well, sometimes, when i want to just go back, "fracking back!", it creates a screenshot, which makes a tablet even more unresponsive. Frack!
I was also having a lot of trouble at first with my Infinity. Then I did a couple of things. One, i got rid of the dual battery widget that I used all the time on my Prime; two, I deleted or disabled every unnecessary app I could find. There are a number of good forum threads that can tell you what to disable. I also settled on Apex Pro Launcher which now seems very stable after deleting dual batter widget.
Mine slowed down after a couple weeks which was very frustrating because I really liked it when I traded my Prime for it. I have moved away from Asus altogether now good luck with jellybean hope it works out for you guys

Buh bye!
I guess i made a big ****ing mistake again, First i got the infinity then i returned it to get the note 10.1 . I was raving and writing positive reviews on that tablet as it is truly a fast tablet, no force close , stereo speaker is loud with good definition then last night i picked up my ipad3 and started browsing , after an hour i went back to my note 10.1 thats when the problem starts as i can now see the how bad 1280x800 resolution is compared to my ipad3 or infinity. So i went back and returned the note for the infinity and now...... after......... couple ....of ....days.........it was ****ing laggy and keeps on force closing browsing is started to became painfully slow , typing is not fun as i keeps on skipping letters as the touch screen is not that responsive. I want to go back to the note but i guess i dont have the guts anymore to returned it again...... Now i'm stuck.
I think the reason why the note is faster is because of its low resolution and why the infinity is slow is because the tegra 3 is not capable enough to handle full hd.........

Thats not the only reason, Prime was lower resolution and that device was slow too.
Loading your tablet up with craplets will slow it down.
It's pretty obvious that if it is performing like you want initially after a fresh factory reset, but then after loading it up with stuff it slows down, then it is most likely the stuff you added, not the box itself. It's just like a windows box basically, as someone else noted. Windows machines are a wreck after a while with all the little DLLs, services, drivers, etc that muck up an installation over time. I really have gotten to where I settle on just one or two go to apps in each category rather than install and leave multiple redundant apps on the machine.
I also avoid "freemium" games like the plague. Those things are like user installed malware. They leave stuff running on your machine all the time, pop notifiers, etc.
An occasional reboot or cold boot might be a healthy thing to do, too, since depending on your system config, Android may not be aggressive about reclaiming memory, etc, and you don't want it to hit eMMC as hard since it is slow on the TFs.

Has the issues been resolved?

I'm looking to get one but I keep reading about problems with lag and the I/o issues and I was wondering if these are still problems or has the updates worked out these kinks?

Much of the I/O issue is reated to the hardware present in the TF700 -- please read up on the issue since we have gone over this quite a few times. Short answer: no, it will not and cannot ever be fixed, but flashing a custom ROM alleviates many issues to a very acceptable degree. In another thread a user asking essentially the same question was rightfully advised to wait and see whatever new models may come available in the next few weeks to months. (Unless you clearly "need" the battery-powere dock of the TF700 and a FullHD sceen on the side, which would make the Transformer line your only viable option.)

But is it something that really ruins the experience or just a minor nuisance?

That depends on the user. In my case it was tolerable, realizing the limitations 0f the hardware. I got around to rooting today.

The issue is not present on some versions of the tablet, I don't know what are the versions but please check the Asus Transformer infinity benchmarking video on youtube by "miniocpro". In this video the I/O appears to be good on Quadrant Standard actually a lot better than the ones on all infinitys i saw.

In my case only a minor nuisance, but that largely depends on personal preference/perception. There have been a few reports of the issues being perceived as "deal-breaking"...

I have never seen a post in here describing the I/O throughput of any Infinity as 'good'. Obviously, as always, your mileage may vary, but in general, it just is not that good.
@OP: I'd buy again, as far as the I/O issue is concerned, provided I could unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM (and possible data2SD) -- these seems to make the user experience a lot better.
I never really paid a whole lot of attention to the I\O complaining.
Not sure slow I\O was causing my initial disappointing experience with the Infinity.
My case the updates worsened the tabs performance...so I threw up my hands and jumped on the Cl-ROM\CROMi train.
I'm a firm believer that too many useless or poorly implemented apps are causing most of the sluggishness with a majority of new users.
I bought one today and it's awesome. Wow, the screen is unbelievable. Coming from the wifi Xoom, this thing is a beast. Very satisfied so far.

I'm not bothered by it at all. Sure, sometimes the browser seems to hang for a bit when loading a page. My SGS3 does the same thing... So does Firefox on my pc, for that matter. And it takes a whole whopping 0.2 seconds longer to swipe or load an app. I do a fair bit of rendering, understanding is half the battle. I can't be bothered by what I know to be logical. But actual, real lag? No. Never noticed it.

This.
New users tend to put every single piece of app junk on their tab, including some seriously heavy and/or incompatible live wallpapers, weather apps, live feeds, motion gallery and an equally insane amount of shortcuts, and then complain about lag. Yea, it doesn't work like that.

OT: Haven't seen you around for a while? All good?
The screen is amazing, and that is the selling point for this device, along with the battery-powered dock.

Welcome to the tf700 section, pal!
I also came from the Xoom. Hard to believe the incredible difference between the Xoom's crappy screen with lots of ghosting and this mega clear and crips display, huh?
I couldn't be happier with the tf700!
@OP: The I/O issue -if you really even consider that an issue- seems to disappear after having installed a custom ROM, eg. CleanRom. It's boosted the I/O benchmarks (not that I care about those) and more importantly, it makes this device bugless. I swear: not one hiccup in a very long time.
I would only recommend data2sd if you really feel that there is still some kind of issue, but I can't imagine that anyone still notices lag.
I've never given the Xoom a try, was it really that bad?

Life turned into a bit of a "well f*ck you too" moment. Mate of mine hit rock bottom and decided, as the idiot that he is, to spend the week drugged up to his eyeballs on cocaine. And aparently, I'm the only one he tolerates in that state. All good now, more or less.
