Is it possible to change my IMEI number? My phone is rooted, and running CoreDroid 5.3. I have my old Samsung Mythic, so I could use that IMEI number, so then I could get unlimited data for only $10 a month. But then if I did change it, would I still be able to get 4G data? Anyway, help would be greatly appreciated.
That would be possible, but illegal!

What's the likelihood of getting caught?
i tried to look into changing my IMEI on android, but never was able to get it. no solution exists yet for android. i looked thru all the source code to try to compile something myself, but i dont think google leaves this part available to us. at least not that i could locate.

Ok there are a lot of intelligent people, developers and what not on this forum and I am very sure someone has to know... is it possible to reset the unlock code tries on our android devices? We are able to do so much do I really hope it is possible (im asking this for my Motorola Backflip). I have no intention of rooting or unlocking my infuse right now.

Dont mean to be mean on you but.... why did you post something for your motorola backflip here
You come asking for intelligent people and good devs... if you ask on the Infuse forum.... probably they know about the Infuse right...
Still you probably are spreading the question on various forums to see if you get help on any? idk :S
And far as i know if you exceed the limit of tries it will "freeze" the phone and you gotta go get it unfrezed or get the freeze code to unfreze it lol and im not sure ALL phones have a limit in trys.... anyways... they are almost always about 10 tries... why would yo use them all?? are you GUESSING the unlock code??
Pay 20 dlls to have a database searcher business get you the code...
here try this one:
http://www.gsm-unlock.com/
or this one:
http://www.gsmliberty.net/shop/
or hey why not:
http://www.gsmunlock.com/
But dont guess the code... its 99.99% you will use those 10 tries if you guess it... and also only samsung hides its network codes withing each phone as far as i know... so call motorola... call att call tmobile or whoever carrier you got on the moto backflip and ask for the code they should be able to guide you man.
Hope its something.

Hi
search for Motorola Android Free Unlock method, Possible to unlock Motorola android phones, counter blocked too.
Hey, you guys! I've been stalking these forums for a long time and now I have a problem where I will need your help. Now, before I get slammed for it, I've searched these and other forums for what I need, I've Googled for hours and hours on end, I've emailed people, and I still can't find a fix to my problem. OK, enough complaining, here is my problem: I bought a Nexus S 4G a few months ago for only $120. I planned on getting it flashed to MetroPCS through their MetroFlash program. I went to their corporate store, and they said they couldn't flash my phone for legal reasons, but they directed me to a man who could flash my phone. I go to him, and he wants $150 to flash it, I say hell no and decide to do it myself. I'm regretting my decision now because ( A.) CDMA Workshop is hard as hell to learn ( B.) There is almost no support out there for this phone.
Anyways, I want to know, has anyone been successful in flashing their NS4G to MetroPCS at home? If you have, please enlighten me! I've been brain-****ting myself to make this work. Right now I'm stuck at the part where I write the ESN. I can read ESN, but when I try to write it, it says "Failed.. ESN has not been changed." I can read/write everything else, except for ESN. I have unlocked it through the SPC and the Internal Security Password. Another issue I'm having is that when I try to read the memory, it gives me an error message saying, "Process is stopped. Phone does not answer" "Process is stopped at: 0000:1000"
This process is too hard, and I call on the great minds of XDA to help me out! Please, all and any information will help! I will love you forever! Thank you in advance!
Edit: I'm using CDMA Workshop 3.8 Trial Version by the way!
Edit: I forgot to mention, everything in this thread is hypothetical and for educational purposes only.
For legal reasons xda forbids on esn hacks. I don't know where you would get help on this but post it if you find something.
Did you search youtube?
Why do you need to change the ESN? That's illegal anyway.
You can follow the Cricket instructions over at howardforums.

I need it to transfer the ESN from my MetroPCS dumbphone to my Sprint Nexus S 4G. I'm trying to get the NS4G to work on Metro. Also, can you please link me to or help me find those instructions? The search function over there is weak and I can't find anyone who has information on flashing a NS4G. Thank you so much for guiding me in the right direction though!

I agree, the basic process is universal but right now I can't find help for my issue, and even in forums for phones other than the NS4G, I can't find anyone experiencing the same problem. I could use any and all the information I can get right now, because the NS4G doesn't have any readily available simple tutorials for it to be flashed to MetroPCS. There are tutorials for Boost, Cricket, and PagePlus, and I have tried following those, but run into problems with those as well. I'm at a dead end and need help
You don't suppose to change your ESN. You call your carrier and Activate the ESN on your carrier, all you really need to do is load Metro PCS prl.

My friend has an EVO flashed to MetroPCS. I thought it was neat. There is also a thread where someone went to craigslist to find a person to flash an Epic 4g. You may find something there. Keep us updated, please. And if you figure it out for yourself, more power to ya
i'm looking to do the same thing but not to MetroPCS... i have another carrier i would like to flash to but it's a new carrier and there's NO INFO online for flashing to them... and they're online so i can't go to their store to flash this... what info would i need to get this ball rolling??
Just pay to have it done by someone who knows what they're doing. I got my NS4G flashed for $40 including 1st month of service.

I heard that android phones is easy to simfree, something like, you only need internet connection for the process... You dont need the tools like some sort of specific hardware and software como like universal box, cyclone box... Any word about this?
Thanks.

Given that your only other post was about changing the IMEI on a non-smartphone (which is highly illegal in most places where there are mobile network providers) I would suggest that you tread very, very carefully
How easy it is to unlock an Android phone all depends on what phone it is. Some are code based, some use software, some use hardware such as the XTC-Clip. None of the above will enable you to change an IMEI though, so don't bother asking for that sort of help on here.

It's a lot simpler to pay for an unlock code... usually only a few bucks but some cost more (search on eBay or Google)

This is my first post I think... So I'm a total noob in that I haven't tweaked any phones before of any type. I've spent probably 20 or so hours in the last few months looking around these forums but due to information overload I'm just gonna bite the bullet and ask about my problem.
Sensation z710e - hboot 1.27 all stock plus OTA updates. No warrenty.
I'm in New Zealand. My phone thinks it's in Taiwan (CID). My GPS sucks and I have read somewhere it's probably looking for Taiwan local satelites and not the ones currently over my head.
There is a system file (read about it elsewhere a while back which I'll have to fnd again) relating to GPS and an area code so it can find the right satelites accurately. Mine quite likely is a few thousand miles off :silly:
I need to edit it. I don't know if I need to change the CID or no. I don't want to flash any roms. Just the bare minimum.
Can someone with experience give me a short list of what to do for this? I got lost as to if I need to s-off and/or root. I like it the way it is I just need it to recognise it's emigrated so I'll likely lock it up again once I've done this. If possible.
Frankly, the more I read in here the more confused I get as most is unrelated to my basic needs. I just want a list of what to do to edit a system file and what order and I can search and find the howtos myself.
ps. If anyone has tips on getting the camera to recognise red as not pink then I'm interested in that too.
There is a free app on the play store called FasterFix that will change those system values for you. It works like a charm IF and ONLY IF that really is your problem.

Is that your useful suggestion as a "senior member" here? I'm glad I don't offer such technical help in my field of expertise.
I don't care for step-by-step detailed spoon feeding. I asked for a short todo list so I could go work out how to do stuff myself. One sentence could have answered it something like "You need to root your phone, then s-off, then edit file xyz.cfg and change the CID". Then I'd know what to go search for. I suspect its something similar to that but I am unsure and unwilling to screw up my phone by doing unnecessary things.
I'd already tried FasterFix before you suggested it and discovered that, as my original statement suggests, my phone can't use it until I alter it. Which is why I asked what I actually need to do. You might as well have told me to flash a ROM knowing full well my phone isn't rooted.
I would actually be grateful if someone answered the original question. I know this community can do better than this or I wouldn't have come here for help.
Perhaps you'd like to root your phone 1st so that you'll be able to unlock more capabilities of tweaking it? You may wanna head down to this thread and check it out -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632553
This will help. It's everything you need to do. Please follow this guide. Best wishes hope this helps.

Rooted and s-off. I still don't know if I needed to s-off as that question was not answered, so I did it anyway. Possibly overkill.
Tweaked the gps.conf manually (fasterfix gave me only a black screen so it's useless) and after reboot got a fix of 7 satelites within seconds. As opposed to before where I got about 4 usually and a fix taking several minutes, if at all, and not being very accurate.

S-off will really help you.. If you want to restore back to stock in case you are running custom roms.. And it makes these things easy
Now regarding the gps fix you did..
Care to explain what guide you used for manually tweaking the gps? Is this the one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17081413?
Or did you flashed the agps patch? (in sensation dev section I think)

I did see that guide and used the link in it to find my server but since half the contents in that guide weren't in my gps.conf I started by just replacing the american server line with nz.pool.ntp.org. As I had already assumed, it wasn't using a local server.
The option was there to add the other stuff if that didn't work but that simple little step sped things up a lot. And since I didn't know what half the other options did I chose to not put them in.
If there's anything specific I can add to further increase GPS accuracy/speed then I'm open to suggestions.
I don't plan on running any custom roms which is why I wanted to know what steps were actually needed since everyone gives instructions assuming it's all about the roms.
The new Xfinity TV Go app replaces the old xfinity player. This app still requires Wi-Fi and will not work on the cellular data network. I post this because I know many want this ability.
I really hope some devs can look into the possibility of modding this app or finding another workaround to enable us to stream via our cellular data connection. Please note that this is a free program so I am not asking for warez. Anyone up to it? There must be a way.
I will be de-compiling this thing and looking for a way to achieve what I want. Don't know if I am skilled enough to do this since I really don't know a lot about .xml. Hopefully there are more experienced users and devs out there that can figure this out or maybe find a workaround. Cheers!

This would be nice. In the little time I have had, I have not been able to examine the app close enough and have failed to find anything on the few occasions I have looked at it. Hopefully a dev will happen across this thread and have some interest in fixing our little problem.
EDIT: I forgot that Verizon customers have the ability to stream using cellular connection due to Comcast and Verizon being in bed together. Maybe there is a way to fool this app into thinking we are on Verizon. Might have to try some temporary build.prop edits later when I have time just to see if it works. One caveat may be that Vz is CDMA where T Mob is GSM. I also recall seeing something in the feature.xml file in the csc folder referencing VZW. Wish I had more time to mess with this.
